Choose Multiplayer mode for frantic multiplayer action and bonus games, Ghost Exchange to swap ghosts from Time Trial mode to other Game Paks. This walkthrough will explore the various challenges of Single Player mode. _________ \|Quick Run\| \|_________\| Quick Run is simply a chance to experiment with either racer, circuit or difficulty. The data is not stored and there are no prizes for coming first. Quick Run gives you a chance to try out different tactics and strategies as well as just having fun! __________ \|Time Trial\| \|__________\| Time Trial mode is a chance to see how quickly you can complete individual tracks and set new records on the game. Up to 10 ghost tracks can also be saved, which can be viewed while attempting Time Trial Mode. ________________ \|Mario Grand Prix\| \|________________\| Mario Grand Prix gives you a chance to play the main feature in the game. Here you can unlock bonus features and attempt to win one of ten championships. Collect coins and shoot items while trying to gain top spot. Battle your way through four races and attempt to finish first overall. Records are kept and you can achieve one of many different ranks for your position in a championship. The point system is as follows: 1st place: 9 points 2nd place: 6 points 3rd place: 3 points 4th place: 1 point 5th place or below: 0 points The ranking system is as follows: * ** * A B C D E The more coins you collect the better the ranking and the better your finish in each individual race, the better your ranking. Luigi Phrase: �Great Steering!� Speed: * Weight: * Luigi has the best wheels on the game. Their ability to turn and swerve is unrivalled by all. Luigi also has a rather strange taunt� Peach Phrase: �Check out true lightweight racing!� Speed: *** Weight: * The lightest racer on the game; Peach is the niftiest and quickest racer around most courses. The only female on the game, Peach is definitely worth choosing. Toad Phrase: �No one has faster acceleration!� Speed: ***** Weight: * Toad eases through races and is the quietest of all competitors. He looks more like a mushroom then a racer and this is reflected in his impressive speed. Yoshi Phrase: �Dirt is no obstacle!� Speed: ** Weight: Unique stats, which compliment each other very nicely, mean Yoshi is both fast and yet can just about stand his ground due to his weight. Donkey Kong Phrase: �Better steering than Wario!� Speed: Weight: He may appear rather too big to be racing karts, but Donkey Kong or DK has all the speed required when he is racing on track. His overall performance is very powerful. Wario Phrase: �True heavyweight power!� Speed: Weight: **** Though technically Wario may have the same stats as Donkey Kong, Wario has a completely different style and his gripping ability is poorer. Bowser Phrase: �There�s nobody faster!� Speed: * Weight: *** The heaviest kart on the game, opposite to that of Toad or Peach, Bowser has superb ramming ability but one slip off the track and Bowser has had it. Random ???? A random selection of any one of the 8 racers featured above. _________________ \|Lightweight Class\| \|_________________\| Examples: Peach, Toad and Yoshi - Excellent acceleration - Not slowed by dirt - Low top speeds - Have a weak strength __________________ \|Middleweight Class\| \|__________________\| Examples: Luigi and Mario - Balanced between Lightweight and Heavyweight _________________ \|Heavyweight Class\| \|_________________\| Examples: Bowser, Donkey Kong and Wario - Very high top speed - Brushes other karts aside - Poor acceleration and steering - Rapidly slows down off track _____________________ \|More about your racer\| \|_____________________\| At the Character Selection screen when your chosen character is highlighted, you can press buttons to command the racer. L � Shoots green shell R � Jumps SELECT � Honks horn START � Choose character ___________ \|Helpful Tip\| \|___________\| A fast racer with high speed is useful on a circuit with a simple layout and a fast track, however a strong racer with a large weight is useful on a circuit with a more complex layout and slower track. *PART FOUR* ______________ \|Choose a Track\| \|______________\| ____________ \|Mushroom Cup\| \|____________\| Peach Circuit Length of lap: Medium Difficulty: Easy Speed: Fast Weather Condition: Clear Time: Daytime Items: 6 Simple and on-target is the name of the game on this track. While straight-forward, if you fail to control your kart at one of the many sharp corners found in this circuit you will soon find yourself pegged back in the race. Shy Guy Beach Length of lap: Medium Difficulty: Easy Speed: Medium Weather Condition: Clear Time: Daytime Items: 7 This is one of the easiest tracks if you take the simple shortcut of driving on the water edge on the inside, rather than the beach. Your only real challenge to taking first place, is the missiles thrown by the pirate ship on a short strip of beach. Riverside Park Length of lap: Long Difficulty: Easy Speed: Medium Weather Condition: Clear Time: Late Afternoon Items: 9 Enjoy this circuit as it has a good variety of different features, speed ramps, jumps and even hairpin turns are all here. Once again if you can keep your feet straight on the track, you should have no problems finishing up first. Bowser Castle 1 Length of lap: Medium Difficulty: Medium Speed: Fast Weather Condition: Fog Time: Early Evening Items: 6 Timing is every thing in this race, the timing of the music to pump you up, the timing of the heavy blocks that will crush you should you not get your kart out the way fast enough and the timing of the fire that spews up at you from the lake. Time your game around these things. __________ \|Flower Cup\| \|__________\| Mario Circuit Length of lap: Medium Difficulty: Easy Speed: Fast Weather Condition: Clear Time: Daytime Items: 7 Possibly the easiest track in the game, you should really zip through Mario Circuit. The curves aren�t too sharp and the items are placed in useful positions. Quite an ordinary track compared with other more novel circuits like Bowser Castle, but very easy. Boo Lake Length of lap: Long Difficulty: Medium Speed: Slow Weather Condition: Cloudy Time: Late Evening Items: 8 Boo Lake is comparatively easier than other ghost centred tracks and runs smoother too as the course is easier. While it is hard to pick up a decent pace in this track, due to all the speed bumps, this track should not pose too many troubles. Cheese Land Length of lap: Medium Difficulty: Medium Speed: Slow Weather Condition: Clear Time: Daytime Items: 8 Little mice are your enemy in this track. Really they are! This course is set in �Cheese Land� with grumpy mice, who will try to spin you out of control as much as possible. There is a lot of turning in this track so there is a lot of emphasis of keeping control of the kart. Bowser Castle 2 Length of lap: Long Difficulty: Medium Speed: Fast Weather Condition: Unknown Time: Unknown Items: 6 The second exciting track from the exciting Bowser Castle series consists of a series of 90C turns and jumps. As usual the track moves insanely quickly and to keep up with the pace, you will need to keep to the often straight and narrow path. _____________ \|Lightning Cup\| \|_____________\| Luigi Circuit Length of lap: Long Difficulty: Hard Speed: Slow Weather Condition: Rain Time: Afternoon Items: 7 The only circuit on Super Mario Kart to feature driving rain has a tricky obstacle for you in the form of puddles. Dash in between the puddles and take your corners slowly if you want to complete this often slippy track in prime position. Sky Garden Length of lap: Long Difficulty: Medium Speed: Fast Weather Condition: Clear Time: Daytime Items: 7 Another fun circuit here, takes place in high altitude, note the name �Sky Garden�, because that is literally what this is, up in the sky, plants decorate the track. The course is generous in width, so take full advantage of this and increase your speed throughout. Cheep-Cheep Island Length of lap: Long Difficulty: Medium Speed: Medium Weather Condition: Clear Time: Afternoon Items: 10 This track, like others is set by the beach at sunset. Fish swim in the waters, but it is the crabs that are your opposition here, holding the B button though will counter any possible attack by the crabs when they try to spin you out of control. Sunset Wilds Length of lap: Long Difficulty: Medium Speed: Slow Weather Condition: Clear Time: Late Afternoon Items: 9 A difficult track to master this one, if it was not for the nine item boxes. They still do not make this track easy, but making full use of the items and speed boosters provided should be enough. Watch out for the little enemy hiding in a small tent, if they grab hold of your kart they will slow you down and steal your coins. ________ \|Star Cup\| \|________\| Snow Land Length of lap: Long Difficulty: Medium Speed: Slow Weather Condition: Snow Time: Afternoon Items: 9 Needless to say this track is covered in snow and with that comes ice. Beware of large patches of normal ice and ice puddles. Snowmen and penguins can also block you in your path and with the icy surface slowing and sometimes spinning your kart, very careful driving is required. Ribbon Road Length of lap: Long Difficulty: Medium Speed: Fast Weather Condition: Clear Time: Daytime Items: 8 It�s fast paced, it�s fun but it certainly is no pushover. Ribbon Road moves at an incredible speed, several speed boosters ensure this track is sped right to the maximum. A number of sudden turns and jumps can easily catch you out if you have a lax in concentration. Yoshi Desert Length of lap: Long Difficulty: Hard Speed: Slow Weather Condition: Clear Time: Daytime Items: 9 A difficult track set in the barren Yoshi desert, includes a much slower pace to the game then in previous tracks and a plant that will swallow your kart and spew it out again just a few moments later. The long corners mean there is a real risk of spinning out of control. Bowser Castle 3 Length of lap: Long Difficulty: Medium Speed: Fast Weather Condition: Thunder and Lightning Time: Late Evening Items: 5 The third Bowser Castle track on the game, feels similar to the other versions, with fire still spewing up at you from the lake. The track is longer then the others and has one less item for you to collect, which sometimes can really make the difference. ___________ \|Special Cup\| \|___________\| Lakeside Park Length of lap: Long Difficulty: Medium Speed: Medium Weather Condition: Clear Time: Afternoon Items: 7 The dusty track of Lakeside Park doesn�t make for exactly smooth riding, but with speed boosters and conveniently placed groups of coins, there should be plenty in this circuit to keep you entertained. There is a difficult stretch of track a little way in the race, when the sea throws up a type of rock at you. Broken Pier Length of lap: Medium Difficulty: Medium Speed: Medium Weather Condition: Cloudy Time: Late Evening Items: 9 The secret to mastering this track is making the most of the many shortcuts. The first one depends upon luck, whether you receive a mushroom as an item. If you do receive a mushroom at the first set of items, continue onwards until you see coins arranged like an arrow. Now release the mushroom and you should land on a speed booster on a separate piece of track, this will then take you further on in the track. Taking advantage of speed boosters and jumps will help you in this tricky track. Bowser Castle 4 Length of lap: Long Difficulty: Medium Speed: Medium Weather Condition: Unknown Time: Unknown Items: 9 Once again in the Bowser Castle series the lake of fire is your main obstacle, as fire continues to spew up at you. Make the best of the nine items available every lap and stick to the sides of the walls, to avoid any obstacles in the middle. Doing this should see you sneak first place. Rainbow Road Length of lap: Long Difficulty: Hard Speed: Fast Weather Condition: Cloudy Time: Late Evening Items: 10 If you want a challenge, this circuit is most certainly for you. If your not battling to avoid the stars that leap about attempting to steal your coins, be alert for a series of speed boosters, which though may look helpful, can speed you along too far. This track is doable, but you�ll need to be the most careful driver on the day. ***************************************************** PLEASE NOTE THE BELOW TRACKS HAVE TO BE UNLOCKED ***************************************************** __________________ \|Extra Mushroom Cup\| \|__________________\| Mario Circuit 1 Length of lap: Short Difficulty: Easy Speed: Medium Weather Condition: Clear Time: Daytime Items: 4 Very simple track, all that is required is good attention. If you keep your racer on course and fast, this track should pose no troubles. With the track being so short, coins should be easy to collect, but beware one crash could slip you from first to last place, such is the size of this race. Donut Plains 1 Length of lap: Short Difficulty: Medium Speed: Medium Weather Condition: Clear Time: Afternoon Items: 4 Another dusty track, which is no problem for the light-weight racers, Donut Plains 1 with all its long corners, is liable to spin you out of control. Pressing the B button while spinning is your only defence for this situation, overall though not a hard track. Ghost Valley 1 Length of lap: Short Difficulty: Easy Speed: Medium Weather Condition: Cloudy Time: Late Evening Items: 5 For a Ghost track, this one is relatively easy, all things considered. The walls, for the most part anyway, protect you from falling over the edge. This track is so simple, that is probably a good idea not to release A � the acceleration button, as you can probably win the race easily if you don�t. Bowser Castle 1 Length of lap: Medium Difficulty: Easy Speed: Fast Weather Condition: Fog Time: Early Evening Items: 4 This one shouldn�t pose any problems either. Strange thing about this Bowser Castle � compared to others, is there are no huge blocks or fire to attack you. Without any obstacles it is quite simple to zip through this circuit to the finish, as this is a quick track. ________________ \|Extra Flower Cup\| \|________________\| Mario Circuit 2 Length of lap: Short Difficulty: Medium Speed: Medium Weather Condition: Clear Time: Daytime Items: 4 Only a short track, this one and in truth quite an easy track. The short length of the track, often results in the kart careering off course. The dust is fairly thin and a lightweight racer should have no problem in this circuit. Choco Island 1 Length of lap: Short Difficulty: Hard Speed: Slow Weather Condition: Clear Time: Late Afternoon Items: 4 The thick dust of Choco Island 1 makes this one of the toughest tracks on Super Mario Kart. A lightweight racer is an absolute must in this track. There is scant room for error here, as the sides of the track are made up of even thicker dust. Ghost Valley 2 Length of lap: Medium Difficulty: Hard Speed: Medium Weather Condition: Cloudy Time: Late Evening Items: 6 This tough Ghost Valley track is partly walled at the sides, but there are large gaps throughout the course, toughening up the race. Coins don�t come at a premium here, follow the trail of coins in this race, for the best path to follow. Donut Plains 2 Length of lap: Medium Difficulty: Medium Speed: Slow Weather Condition: Clear Time: Afternoon Items: 4 Space does come at a premium here, snake your way through the narrow circuits as you struggle to keep on track. The best advice is to continually keep to the inner edge of the circuit at all times and take the corners at a slow pace if you don�t want to risk finishing on the green by the track. ___________________ \|Extra Lightning Cup\| \|___________________\| Bowser Castle 2 Length of lap: Medium Difficulty: Easy Speed: Fast Weather Condition: Unknown Time: Unknown Items: 4 A zippy track, which shouldn�t be too strenuous. Keeping on track and taking your corners wisely are the most important things to keep in mind. Also be sure to collect a lot of coins at the beginning of each lap as there are dozens placed here only. Mario Circuit 3 Length of lap: Medium Difficulty: Medium Speed: Medium Weather Condition: Clear Time: Daytime Items: 4 Not much to comment on this track. A neat, simple layout which holds no nasty suprises. By default this is a boring track, if you can say any tracks on Mario Kart are boring. Be sure to take some shortcuts and avoid taking every corner fully. Koopa Beach 1 Length of lap: Short Difficulty: Easy Speed: Medium Weather Condition: Clear Time: Daytime Items: 4 At about 11 seconds a lap, Koopa Beach 1 is short in length and drama. Separated from sea either side, Koopa Beach 1 is a series of island beaches. Stick close to the sea, even if it means travelling over the water. In short this track is too short to be difficult. Choco Island 2 Length of lap: Medium Difficulty: Hard Speed: Slow Weather Condition: Clear Time: Late Afternoon Items: 4 A hard track by all measures, Choco Island 2 requires good handling and patience when taking the course. The biggest dilemma in this track is finding yourself on the outside of the track. The dusty track makes for a slow and difficult race, get yourself a lightweight racer is the best advice. ______________ \|Extra Star Cup\| \|______________\| Vanilla Lake 1 Length of lap: Short Difficulty: Medium Speed: Slow Weather Condition: Icy Time: Afternoon Items: 4 Surprisingly this track is much easier then its counterpart Snow Land. Apart from those irritating, annoying ice cubes, that block your way at one point during the race, over speeding can lead to a loss of control. However this a fairly straight forward kind of track. Bowser Castle 3 Length of lap: Medium Difficulty: Medium Speed: Fast Weather Condition: Fog Time: Early Evening Items: 4 This circuit is down to you, there are a few different ways around the circuit, a few different turnings for you to decide. Memorise the easiest route and take that one. Stock up on coins at the first corner and a little later take the middle path where an extra item lays. Mario Circuit 4 Length of lap: Medium Difficulty: Medium Speed: Medium Weather Condition: Clear Time: Daytime Items: 4 Longer then Peach Circuit and about the same in difficulty, Mario Circuit 4 requires nothing more then simple, calm and collected steering. It is useful to add that you can accumulate an item box towards the end of the track slightly off course to the right and quickly get back on track if you are careful. Donut Plains 3 Length of lap: Medium Difficulty: Hard Speed: Slow Weather Condition: Clear Time: Afternoon Items: 4 Striking the balance correct is the winning formula to mastering this track. Balance speed with the risk of spin and balance speed with handling the rest of the circuit. A failure to do this and one splash in the sea could effectively ruin your chances of winning here. _________________ \|Extra Special Cup\| \|_________________\| Koopa Beach 2 Length of lap: Short Difficulty: Easy Speed: Medium Weather Condition: Clear Time: Daytime Items: 3 Koopa Beach 2 is very easy track which shouldn�t pose any major hassles. It�s short size poses only one headache. Should you fail to get away first time with a mushroom, you may find it hard to make you the ground needed. Ghost Valley 3 Length of lap: Medium Difficulty: Hard Speed: Medium Weather Condition: Cloudy Time: Late Evening Items: 4 A tough race this one, every turn precarious. Complete all your turns all the alternative is falling off the side, something you will want to avoid. A heavyweight racer is best for this circuit and your best bet is to collect as many coins as possible. Vanilla Lake 2 Length of lap: Short Difficulty: Medium Speed: Slow Weather Condition: Icy Time: Afternoon Items: 4 Skid your way through Vanilla Lake 2 and jump over puddles. In truth this shouldn�t be a difficult track, if you keep close to the lake in the middle of the circuit, without falling in. You will need to keep your finger on the R button, as you will need to jump over the puddles and around corners. Rainbow Road Length of lap: Medium Difficulty: Hard Speed: Fast Weather Condition: Clear Time: Late Evening Items: 4 Be prepared for the hardest circuit on Super Mario Kart, Rainbow Road. Do not be deceived by the bright colours twinkling by the twilight sky, this circuit is anything but glamorous. If you are not falling of the sides of this narrow, completely un-walled track you are risking other karts knocking you about. Advice; be careful. * PART FIVE* _____ \|Items\| \|_____\| There are ten different items which vary in frequency and in attack. From the mushroom to the spiny shell, some items are more desired than others� --Banana-- Spins karts out of control. --Boo-- Steal other racers items and confuse the leader of the race. --Green Shell-- Bounces off walls to attempt to spin karts out of control. --Lightning-- Shrinks other racers and makes them slower. --Mushroom-- Briefly speeds you up. --Red Shell-- Attempts to spin out control the kart in front. --Spiny Shell-- Zooms in on leading kart and others in its path. --Star-- Increases your speed, changes the music and protects you from attacks. --Triple Green Shells-- Three green shells which also act as protection. --Triple Red Shells-- Three red shells which also act as protection. *PART SIX* ________________ \|Cheats and Hints\| \|________________\| --Beginning boost-- To get a free booster at the beginning of each race, tap A at the third light. --Keep compose-- If you stumble upon an item, press B to keep compose of your character. --Special Cup championship-- Win a gold cup in all races to unlock the Special Cup championship. --SNES tracks-- Earn a gold trophy in each circuit to unlock the classic SNES tracks. --Orange title screen-- Complete all circuits in all difficulties. --Wallpaper title screen-- Complete all circuits with three stars. *PART SEVEN*** ______________ \|A note from me\| \|______________\| Before anyone asks, yes this is an attempt at Gameaday.
