PRO EVOLUTION 4 – A WALKTHROUGH

After playing this game as a person who has conquered all the previous Pro Evo games I have found this one to be hard as nails! No matter who picks up this game they will struggle to score and win at the beginning but do not fret as I have worked out all the best strategies that will make you king of this game!

To be victorious most of the time you should follow these seven easy steps:

(1) As dirty and illegal as it may be in today’s game a sure fire way of preventing the opposition from scoring is to tackle from behind. The best time to do this is when the dirty blighters break up one of your attacks. They will launch a counter attack and unless your are playing a team of grandpas like Bolton they will have lightning quick wingers to tear up your defence. As soon as you notice this situation materialize hack the opposing players legs away from him as soon as possible to prevent a one-on-one with your keeper. The further away from your box the better as you are likely only to receive a yellow card but if its anywhere near your box it will take a minor miracle to prevent you from getting your marching orders.

(2) A good tactic I commonly use to score is to do a passing free kick should I ever win one near the opponent’s 18-yard box. The plan is to pass the ball to one of your players in the box and then turn and unleash your shot on goal. Sure, it isn’t as glorious or as attractive as a 25-yard screamer but it gives you a far better chance of scoring.

(3) Another way to win is to keep possession just like all the worlds best teams do. The tactic here is to try and snatch a goal then spray the ball around your midfield and defence for the rest of the game. Always make the simplest pass possible and do not try anything risqué. If you feel this system getting broken down take a leaf out of Everton’s book and hoof the ball up the pitch and hope for the best. Also it is smart to attack less as you will cut the risk of a dangerous counter attack.

(4) You will notice when playing this game that because of how sensitive the controls are you will annoyingly often accidentally run straight out of play with the ball conceding possession unnecessarily. Well a simple and effective way to prevent this is to hold R1 and R2, which will prevent your player from running out of play.

(5) To make the game slightly easier you should turn down the cursor speed (this is the thing which determines the speed that the computer changes player for you) If you set it to eight bars then the computer will change your player automatically, however if you choose manual you ill be in total control. This tip really depends on the player. I prefer to be in total control but some people find it easier for the computer to do it. Play around with this option to see what suits you.

(6) If you can get the hang of 1-2 free kicks you will score a whole lot more. To score one of these free kicks you firstly press “select” to get a second player to stand over the ball leaving you with three options for the kick. The three options are:

(i) Hit “square” and take a shot with the player furthest from the ball.
(ii) Hold down “L1” and press “square” this will cause the player standing next to the ball to have an unexpected shot.
(iii) Press “R3” and this will lay the ball off to one of your players and then hit “square” to launch a powerful shot at goal.

(7) After a million different attempts at taking corners I have found the best tactic is to hit in an in swinger. Its best to aim for edge of the 18 yard box and curl the ball towards goal. Hold the “circle” button until just over halfway on the gauge then press “left” or “right” to put your deserved swerve on the ball. All that’s left to do is connect with the ball by holding “square” then more times than not you will be punching the air in celebration.

Now there’s nothing better than winning in style and the perfect way to do this is with tricks. The feelings of outclassing your opponents or shaming your mates is unbeatable but you have to make sure you can pull them off unlike that clown Diao!!! Anyway here is a list of all the best tricks, how to use it and when to perform them.

1. Face The Goal – This is when you want to stop the ball and face your opponents in one swift move. It’s best to use it when you plan to shoot or unleash a cross into the box. To do this simple move you let go of the D-pad and hit “R2”.

2. Side Step – This moves best used when running against the other teams defenders. Not only is it easy to pull off but also it is probably one of the most effective tricks in the game. To do it you hold “R2” and press “up” or “down”.

3. Leg Fake – This is basically a single step-over and most effectively used against big defenders. Another very simple trick that is performed by hitting “R2” twice.

4. Feint – This is when you pretend to make a run from a standing position and the only real use I found for it was showing off to your mates. Another of the easier tricks which is performed by stopping the ball by pressing “R2” performs and the twice pressing “up” or “down”.

5. Cross Feint – This move is when you pretend to put in a cross and is best used when trying to beat the last defender to deliver a cross. To do this move using “R2” to run down the line then you release the D-pad direction.

6. Step Over – Name speaks for itself. It’s basically 3 step-overs in a row. It is best used to lose a defender tracking you. Pressing “L1” three times performs it.

7. Slow Up – This is when you slow down your running in preparation for a net bursting shot. Perform it by pressing “square” to bring the gauge up and then before you let go hold “R2”.

8. Sharp Turn – This allows the player to turn immediately on the spot to try and shake off a defender who is catching up on you. It is one of the harder tricks to pull off. To do it you have to tap “R2” and press the opposite direction.

9. Drop Shoulder – Use this when running against defenders. This trick gives the impression you are going to run one way but in fact you are going the other way. Performed by pressing “up-right” (diagonal) when going from left to right. To perform it from right to left just do the opposite.

10. Marseille Roulette – This trick is Zidanes trademark trick. The spin on the ball. It is a cocky way to beat defenders and make you feel great when you pull it off. Probably the hardest trick to do. You have to twist the right analogue stick in a 360 degrees motion. Fantastic!!

So you will also probably want to conquer the famous but difficult Master League. Well it isn’t that hard to succeed in it you simply play like Everton! Here are four easy to follow steps that will guarantee success:

1. Play Defensively – The first decision you should make is what formation to play. Well I suggest you play the 5-4-1-B. This gives you a really good defence and then you should revert to counter attacks. If you turn on the semi auto counter attack strategy then your players will know when to make a move.

2. Soak Up Pressure – Let the opposition attack you and don’t try and make any clever runs. Do your best to keep the ball between your midfield and defence until you are left with an opportunity to hoof the ball up the pitch to your striker and you should score most off the time.

3. Make A Break – When you are spraying the ball about between you players keeping possession then the opposite teams players will occasionally go out of possession to try and win back possession. When you notice this happening make a pass to an attacking midfielder and make sure you maintain possession. When the opportunity arises in the oppositions half try and get a through ball in to your striker and if you are successful he will be left one on one with the ‘keeper.

4. Shoot From Distance – If you can’t play a killer through ball then you should shoot from distance. I suggest you play Minanda in the in the attacking midfield position as he has the best shooting attributes. As long as your shot is on target then something good should come from it. It may not be a goal but you might win a corner.
