Harvest Moons: It's a Wonderful Life - general walkthrough.... ANIMALS; The key to early success in your farm. I can't count the number of times my cows have saved my bacon. Money wise obviously. GENERAL; - When possible, keep them outside - When inside, keep them fed - Always be nice and caring - check on them a lot COWS: You get one at the start, and you need more really. Milk-able twice a day, morning and evening (or indeed midnight and mid-day, 11/12 hours apart anytime really). Be nice to it to get milk - neglect it and it'll get annoyed. The cows give three types of milk, B, A and S, in cheap to expensive order. Most of time you'll get A through normal care. To get S milk, buy 'Good fodder' and brush the cow a lot and you might get some valuable milk! Inside they need food TWICE a day (hence 2 spaces in their feed troughs), but outside they can eat what they want/need. When you have a male cow and a female cow, you might somehow get a baby cow. This both a good and bad thing. Bad because it interrupts milk, and cows 'need' to give birth every 40 days to 'keep the milk going', good because you get more cows! Miracle Potion can also make a cow pregnant, in some Christ-like event! Once the cow reaches late pregnancy, it goes into the little barred area at the back of the tool shed - then the calf is born and is fed on 'Mama's Milk'. Feed the calf this, and then the mother might start making normal milk - continued to feed some to the calf to get it strong. Fodder after that - a lot of care and attention needs to be payed to your calf. Then it grows into a big strong bull/heffer, and the mother can produce milk for another 40 days! There are 4 types of cow, with the females costing 1000G more than the male breed equivalent, for obvious reasons. The breeds are Normal, Brown, Marble and Star cows. The value of milk rises accordingly. You can inter-breed them for odd results too..... Milk Prices - Star Cow Marble Cow Brown Cow Normal Cow B Milk 270 115 115 75 A Milk 405 175 175 115 S Milk 540 225 225 150 As you can see, the prices vary hugely between normal and Star! This is the same for cheese etc when you get a Food Processor plant (30,000G). Also available is the Milking Plant (60,000G) which costs the earth but us time saving... up to you. SHEEP; ....are not as good, simple. They take room in the barn (valuable cow space) and produce wool only once a season! Feed ONCE a day, and produce Golden Wool if they like you enough. Wash/brush them (the washing trough, left of the barn outside) to make them happier as well. B, A and S wool rises in value accordingly, with about 600G from S wool - but once a season, this is not a great investment compare to other animals.... CHICKENS; You need lots for profit, but they are funny. Again, be nice and you get 1/2 eggs a day, sellable of course. You need a rooster and a hen for a fertilised egg, which once on the incubator will turn into a new chicken soon enough! You need to buy Bird Feed for the chickens and pop it on the central rectangle - it'll diminish as it gets eaten. Beware, as you hold and cuddle the chickens, if you show them to the others, they get annoyed. Not sure why.. Pop them outside it it's nice - not in the grass, they'll get lost. If it rains, don't bother, and it can take ages to take them all outside, but they do like it. Incubated eggs take about 5 days to hatch and another 5 to develop from chick to chicken. Again, randomly male/female - you can also sell them for a tidy price - just hope they're not for food! They cost 900 for both sexes, and produce Normal/Fertilised and Golden eggs, 40G, 50G and 300G accordingly! Golden egss are from very happy chickens though..... DUCKS; Now into the realm of the unknown quantities. You need a pond (2,500G) from the First Chapter in your field. You also need less than six chickens, not sure why... Your wife will wake up (you need a wife, seriously..) and find some ducks in the pond. Keep them, and they make eggs like Chickens. Incubate for more ducks - but don't sell all of them, as they DO NOT come back. You can sell a duck for 500G... GOATS; Similar to cows. Feed/care same way, but no pregnancies. However, once they stop giving milk, they are impossible to be rid of, so only get if you really want them. You can make Goats cheese and butter etc, but Cow milk is generally more valuable. You can just starve the poor things, but the morals in the game might not let you stray that far without some remorse! FISH; Catch some (see Fishing) - best place is the waterfall or the very mouth of the river. You can use the fish for some advanced cookery, or sell the Sharsharks for a tidy sum. Fish selling prices......... Arna 400G Big Arna 800G Colombo 20G Big Colombo 40G Huchep 90G Big Huchep 170G Nyamame 60G Big Nyamame 130G Rainbob 80G Big Rainbob 150G Sharshark 600G Big Sharshark 1200G Snelt 30G Big Snelt 160G Yamame 500G Big Yamame 1000G PETS; Dog, cats, stupid chawawawawawaaaas, and 'my lovely horse'. HORSE; Extremely useful for saving time. Brush, care for normally etc. Double tap R to whistle and make it run over to you. Takakura brings it to you in the First chapter, nice and free. DOG; Doesnothing, get at start. Boring little beggar. You can put food in the dogbowl. CATS/Chihuahua - Make friends with Romana and you might get one of her cats. Be nice to Carter the archeologist, help his digs and find some pricey stuff and you might get his near invisible dog. GIRLS; The good bit of the game... hehe. They like various things depending on their personality... CELIA; Works at the farm nearby - simple and down to earth. Your kid will be the same really. She likes flowers, veg, eggs, crystals/ore, shiny ore etc. MUFFY; The red dress lady. Flirtatious and a 'schnurgen!' style babe. Well, compared to the other two..... Anyway, your kid will be the same, obviously. Well, outgoing at least. She likes flowers, ore/crystals, shiny couns and sweets! NAMI; Quiet and withdrawn, but she will warm to you. Yourkid will be quiet but loving. She likes clay statues, fossils, curry and blue trick flowers. CROPS; Plantation farm sells these.......to a rival farm. Hmm. Anyway, crops are very time consuming. They need watering a lot in summer/late spring/early autumn, and this takes a while. However, they are very useful for your own consumption and recipies! -------- SEASON/CROP PLANTING -------- Spring - Tomato, Watermelon, Strawberry, Potato Summer - Tomato, Watermelon, Turnip, Melon, Sweet Potato 'Fall' - Tomato, Watermelon, Strawberry, Turnip, Melon, Carrot Winter - Strawberry, Turnip, Potato, Carrot TREES; Expensive + useful. You don't need to water it after it's been planted - they never die or wilt, but you can hoe them down. You can plant anytime, but only harvest at certain points. HARVEST: Spring - Peaches Summer - Oranges, Bananas Fall - Grapes, Apples Winter - GENERAL; - Chop a lot of grass, take out 99 fodder, and make 990G by selling it all to Van - time consuming but easy money. Use the Light Sickle to save energy (and you need lots of fodder for the winter as well) - Use a seed maker, pop in some seeds and then sell the seeds - a lot more value. - Experiment - Try mixing lots of things with Tartan/Seed makers etc. You can mix wild flowers etc. Also, cook! Cooking is a good gift for people, and learn it fast. - Wife = get one quick - first chapter or so. These are obviously general tips, but they should be useful! Thanks for reading!
