Aha, welcome to the king of…fishing guides. Fishing you say? Boring you say? Wrong indeed, you are. Fishing is without a doubt one of the best parts about Harvest Moon : A Wonderful Life, and it’s quite possible to make a fair amount just from fishing, although I’m sure non of us just want to fish in a game that allows you to run around with chickens, shouting madly into the midnight air, “You’ll never take me! Never! I’m taking my story to the Feds!”. Or something. So yeah, anyway, on with the walkthrough. Hope you find it useful (if not for the fishing, then for the few moments it will take your mind of your increasingly dull and inferior lives). 1. Getting started. First off, to fish you’ll need a pole. Now, for people who’ve been playing the game for a while, the rod will already have been purchased, however, if you’re new to the game, then you can easily buy a fishing pole of Van, who sets up his stall in the middle of time every 3rd and 8th days of the month, and also random days throughout the season. Once you have the pole, it’s time to move onto the real fishing bit. 2. Places to fish There’s really five places to fish in the game, although there aren’t set parameters, so some people may disagree slightly. The five places are:- The Lower River. The lower river is basically the part of the river which is past the bridge going out to sea. The Middle River. The middle river is the bit of the river which is on the other side of the bridge, and goes up to about to the waterfall area. The Waterfall. The waterfall is right at the top of the river, and you can easily get there by following the path that runs from Celia’s farm up to the archaeologist dig site. The Pond. This lies near where the little dwarf people live in the big tree, and it’s surrounded by flowers. The Swamp. This is the bit that’s pretty near to the Scientist’s house, and it’s surrounded by trees and other swampy things (shush), so you may need to get a little closer to be able to see it properly. 3. Types of fish There are 16 different types of fish to be found in the game, and they’re the Arna, Colombo, Snelt, Nyameme, Rainbob, Huchep, Yameme, Sharshark, Big Arna, Big Colombo, Big Snelt, Big Nyameme, Big Rainbob, Big Huchep, Big Yameme and the Big Sharshark. A mouthful, I know. Pricing guide. Sell the fish to Van, and you can make quite a bitta dollah. He’s give you the following amounts for the fish. Colombo 20g Snelt 30g Nyameme 60g Rainbob 80g Huchep 90g Arna 400g Yameme 500g Sharshark 600g Big Colombo 40g Big Snelt 60g Big Nyameme 130g Big Rainbob 150g Big Huchep 170g Big Arna 800g Big Yameme 1000g Big Sharshark 1200g Not bad eh? Like I say, you can get quite a bit of money just by fishing, but meh, slightly tedious just doing that the entire game. Fishing’s more of a side-quest, but you must admit, it’s a pretty rewarding one. 4. Where to find the fish You’ll find the following fish at the following locations. The Lower River Snelt + Big Snelt Colombo + Big Columbo Sharshark + Big Sharshark Rainbob + Big Rainbob The Middle River Colombo + Big Columbo Snelt + Big Snelt Sharshark + Big Sharshark The Waterfall Huchep + Big Huchep Yamame + Big Yamame Nyamame + Big Nyamame The Pond Arna + Big Arna Colombo + Big Columbo Snelt + Big Snelt Rainbob + Big Rainbob Yamame + Big Yamame The Swamp Colombo + Big Columbo Snelt + Big Snelt Arna + Big Arna Yameme + Big Yameme As you can see, the waterfall’s easily the best place to catch fish, with the worst fish you can get selling at 60g a pop. The swamps pretty good for catching smelts, which you can eat, plus they’re too cheap to sell really, so it’s good for food. 5. Extra tips 1) To get the fishing rod (much improved version of the pole) you need to become friendly with Galen in chapter 2. After much talking to him, he’ll eventually give you the rod. 2) Don’t eat Columbo, ever. He hates it. Give them away as presents (mwahaha). 3) The best place is the waterfall as mentioned. Good fish are really quite common there, so go there as often as possible. 4) Fish in the rain, it produces better results. 5) Cook with fish. It’s easy, and after 20 cookings, the “shashimi” will be available. Any fish made to shashimi will sell for 150g, so use your columbos and snelts. That’s all you’re getting.
