CHARACTERS This is a guide to all of the characters in the game. *NOTE* Most of the characters will be unlocked automatically if you have a Dynasty Warriors 2 save on your Memory Card. Characters are split into 4 sections. The kingdoms of wu(red), wei(blue, and shu(green) and characters that don't fit in to any of these. Here is a list of all the characters you can possess in the game. Wu- Sun Jian, Sun Quan, Sun Ce, Sun Shang Xiang, Lu Xun, Zhou Yu, Lu Meng, Xiao Qiao, Da Qiao, Gan Ning, Taishi Ci and Huang Gai. Wei- Cao Cao, Xiahou Dun, Xiahou Yuan, Xu Zhu, Xu Huang, Zhang He, Zhang Liao, Sima Yi, Zhen Ji and Dian Wei. Shu- Liu Bei, Zhang Fei, Guan Yu, Zhao Yun, Zhuge Liang, Wei Yan, Jiang Wei, Huang Zhong, Ma Chao and Pang Tong. Unaligned- Lu Bu, Diao Chan, Dong Zhuo, Yuan Shao, Meng Huo, Zhu Rong, Zhang Jiao, Fu Xi and Nu wa.(None of these are available at the start.) A number of characters are unlocked to start off with. These are: Wu- Zhou Yu, Huang Gai and Sun Shang Xiang. Wei- Xiahou Dun, Zhang He and Dian Wei. Shu- Guan Yu, Zhang Fei and Zhao Yun. KINGDOM OF WU LU XUN- Clear Musou Mode with 1 Wu general DA QIAO- Clear Musou Mode with 1 Wu general XIAO QIAO- Clear Musou Mode with Zhou Yu or Da Qiao. SUN JIAN- Clear Musou Mode with 2 Wu generals. SUN CE- Clear Musou Mode with 2 Wu generals. TAISHI CI- Assault on Wu Territory, Wu side. Defeat Liu Yong before Taishi Ci is killed. He will surrender. GAN NING- Battle of He Fei, Wei side, (MUSOU ONLY). Wait for Gan Ning to appear as enemy reinforcements. Then defeat him. He will simultaneously drop the POWER SCROLL. Just defeat all the other generals apart from Sun Jian and capture all the gates. This isn't necessary but is useful if you don't want Cao Cao to be slaughtered. He will appear after about 20-25 minutes. LU MENG- Battle at Fan Castle (MUSOU ONLY). Clear the stage with Lu Meng still alive. A simple strategy is to simply run for Guan Yu at the start before he floods the castle. SUN QUAN- Battle of He Fei, Wu side, (MUSOU ONLY). Wait for Zhang Liao to assassinate Taishi Ci in the centre. Sun Jian will then attempt to flee. Stay with him at this point. If you follow him, he will reach a broken bridge. Your character will tell him to jump, and you both do so successfully. Zhang Liao will then appear by you. Kill him. Doing so will also unlock Zhang Liao himself and the item BUCKLER. Doing his will also trigger the Wu counter-attack. Sun Jian will go up through the middle. Any Wei general will halt him,and he will stay reasonably close to the centre until Gan Ning appears. When Sun Jian enters the Wei camp, there will be a cut-scene signalling the end of the stage. KINGDOM OF WEI XU ZHU- Clear Musou Mode with 1 Wei character. ZHEN JI- Clear Musou Mode with 1 Wei character. SIMA YI- Clear Musou Mode with any Wei character apart from Zhang Liao, Zhen Ji or Dian Wei. CAO CAO- Clear Musou Mode with 2 Wei characters. XU HUANG- Clear Musou Mode with 2 Wei characters. XIAHOU YUAN- Battle of Mt Ding Jun, Shu side. Defeat Xiahou Yuan. ZHANG LIAO- Battle of He Fei, Wu side. Defeat Zhang Liao. KINGDOM OF SHU MA CHAO- Clear Musou Mode with 1 Shu character. WEI YAN-Clear Musou Mode with 1 Shu character. ZHUGE LIANG- Clear Musou Mode with any Shu character except Pang Tong or Zhang Fei. HUANG ZHONG- Clear Musou Mode with 2 Shu characters. LIU BEI- Clear Musou Mode with 2 Shu characters. JIANG WEI- Clear Musou Mode with Zhuge Liang. PANG TONG- Cheng Du, Shu side. Clear the stage with Pang Tong alive. This is tough because after a while his troops will become surrounded by Zhang Ren. Save him and he's yours to play as. Get there too late, and you'll have to settle for a HEX MARK SADDLE. OTHER UNLOCKABLE CHARACTERS LU BU- Hu Lao Gate, Allied side. Clear the stage after obtaining at least 1000 KOs. I suggest playing on normal and selecting a character with good range, e.g Guan Yu. There are several good areas to obtain KOs: Fan Shui Gate- 200 KOs The gate East of Hu Lao Gate- 500 KOs Hu Lao Gate- At least 400 more KOs DIAO CHAN- Hu Lao Gate, Allied side. Defeat Diao Chan. DONG ZHUO- Hu Lao Gate, Allied side. Defeat Diao Chan and Lu Bu. YUAN SHAO- Battle of Guan Du, Wei side. Defeat Yan Liang and Wen Chou. ZHANG JIAO- Yellow Turban Rebellion, Allied side. Defeat Zhang Bao, Zhang Liang and Zhang Jiao. MENG HUO- Nanman Campaign, Shu side (MUSOU ONLY). Defeat Meng Huo all of the 7 times he appears. ZHU RONG- Nanman Campaign, Shu side (MUSOU ONLY). Defeat Meng Huo 5 times. Zhu Rong will then threaten you. Then defeat Zhu Rong. FU XI- Complete Musou Mode with Liu Bei, Cao Cao and Sun Jian, and unlock Lu Bu. NU WA- Complete Musou Mode with all of the women (Sun Shang Xiang, Da Qiao, Xiao Qiao and Zhen Ji.) 2. WEAPONS In Dynasty Warriors 3, each character can equip four different weapons. They have their base weapon, a 2nd weapon, a 3rd weapon and a 4th weapon. The 2nd and 3rd weapons can be obtained in any battle by picking up a weapon that an officer drops upon defeat, or picking up a weapon found in the level. The 4th weapon can only be obtained on the hard difficulty setting and by fulfilling certain requirements on a specific level. The 3rd and 4th weapons are unique to each character. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd weapons have variable stats I addition to the basic attack boost, but the 4th has predetermined stat boosts. This part of the guide is to help you get each character’s 4th weapon. KINGDOM OF WU ZHOU YU Battle of Chi Bi Wu Forces Defeat Xiahou Dun and Zhang He. The item will be reported south of Cao Cao's starting position. HUANG GAI Battle of Chi Bi Wu Forces Defeat Zhang Liao. The item will be reported near the place of prayer in the southwest. SUN SHANG XIANG Battle of You Ting Wu Forces Kill Cao Xiu. The item will be reported next to Cao Xiu's starting position. LU XUN Battle of Yi Ling Wu Forces Traverse the stone warrior formation and kill Zhuge Liang. Lu Meng and Gan Ning must still be alive when you kill Zhuge Liang. The item will be reported inside the stone warrior formation. DA QIAO Battle of You Ting Wu Forces Kill Zhang He. The item will be reported in the northwest of the map. XIAO QIAO The Nanman Campaign Wu Forces Kill Zhu Rong. The item will be reported east of the bridge in the northwest of the map. SUN JIAN Assault on Liu Biao Sun Jian’s forces Kill Lu Gong. Once he is dead, the special item will be reported at the entrance to the path that led to Lu Gong. Finish the stage as normal. SUN CE Assault on Wu Territory Stage Wu forces Force Taishi Ci to surrender by defeating the officer in the bottom-right of the map. The item will be reported at Taishi Ci’s starting position. GAN NING Battle of He Fei Wu Forces Wait for Taishi Ci to be assassinated. A supply team will appear by the gate at the northwest of the map and head towards the gate at the southwest of the map. TAISHI CI Assault on Wu Territory Allied Forces Kill all enemy generals except Sun Ce. The item will be reported by the northern gate. LU MENG Battle of Fan Castle Allied Forces Kill Guan Ping. The item will be reported southeast of the Wei base, on a middle level platform. SUN QUAN Battle of He Fei Castle Wu Forces Kill Zhang He. The item will be reported east of the pond in the centre of the castle. KINGDOM OF WEI XIAHOU DUN Guan Yu's Escape Wei Forces Defeat Zhou Cang, Chen Zhen and Guan Ping. The item will be reported in the northeast corner of Guan Ping's fort. ZHANG HE Battle of Guan Du Wei Forces Find and burn the enemy supply depot with Yan Liang and Wen Chou still alive. DIAN WEI Battle of Wan Castle Wei Forces Defeat Hu Chi Er. A supply team will appear east of Hu Chi Er's starting position and moves to the gate near Jia Xu. ZHEN JI Battle of Jie Ting Wei Forces Defeat Jiang Wei. The item will be reported by Zhuge Liang's camp. SIMA YI Battle of Wu Zhang Plains Wei Forces Defeat Zhang Bao. After 20 minutes have passed, a supply team will appear by Zhang Bao's starting position. Kill the supply captain and an item will be reported near the gate southeast of the Shu main camp. CAO CAO Yellow Turban Rebellion Han Forces Defeat Zhang Bao and Zhang Liang before any other officers are killed or any gates are sealed. A supply team will appear by the northwest gate and move east north of the river. XU ZHU Battle of Tong Gate Wei Forces Defeat Ma Chao's officers Ma Dai and Pang De. Pass through the Tong Gate. The item will be reported southeast of Ma Chao's fort. XIAHOU YUAN Battle of Mt. Ding Jun Wei Forces Approach Huang Zhong. He will run down the mountain. Kill him. The item will be reported west of Huang Zhong's starting position. ZHANG LIAO Battle of He Fei Wei Forces Kill Zhou Tai. The item will be reported near the broken bridge in the east. XU HUANG Battle of Fan Castle Wei Forces Defeat Guan Ping before the flood event at 10 minutes. KINGDOM OF SHU LIU BEI Battle of Yi Ling Shu Forces Defeat Sun Shang Xiang. The item will be reported in the northeast of Sun Quan's camp. ZHANG FEI Battle of Chang Ban Shu Forces Go to Chang Ban bridge (North of Xu Zhu's starting position.) Wait for an enemy to get there and you will see a cutscene. A supply unit will appear by Xu Zhu moving north. GUAN YU Guan Yu's Escape Shu Forces You must pass through the fourth gate. A supply team will apppear north of your position. ZHAO YUN Battle of Chang Ban Shu Forces Defeat Xiahou Dun, Zhang Liao and Zhang He. Also, you must wait for Cao Cao's reinforcements to arrive and Liu Bei to say "Cao Cao, so you intend to end it here at Chang Ban?" After this fight anyone around Liu Bei and you will get a cutscene. Once all of these conditions are met a supply unit will appear in the northwest. ZHUGE LIANG Battle of Wu Zhang Plains Shu Forces Wait for the enemy reinforcements to appear. Defeat Cao Xiu. The item will be reported near Zhuge Liang's starting position. WEI YAN Battle of Jie Ting Shu Forces Wait for Ma Su to climb up to the summit and get ambushed. Save him by killing the general at the summit attacking him. Defeat all the enemy generals except Sima Yi, then enter his camp. The item will be reported where Ma Su was ambushed. JIANG WEI Battle of Jie Ting Shu Forces Defeat Zhen Ji and Cao Ren. The supply unit will appear at the gate northeast of Sima Yi and head to the northwest gate. HUANG ZHONG Battle of Mt. Ding Jun Shu Forces Defeat Xiahou Shang. The item will be reported west of Cao Cao's starting position. MA CHAO Battle of Tong Gate Shu Forces Charge immediately towards Cao Cao. He will retreat along the north bank. Ma Chao will soon discover this and ask Han Sui and a couple of others to come and help him. Go up to Xu Huang with Han Sui. Stay around Han Sui and make sure he does not die. He will meet Cao Cao. After a cutscene, continue to protect Han Sui. A message will soon come up, "The allied forces are reeling from reports of Han Sui's betrayal. Go north and the supply team will soon appear near you. PANG TONG Assault on Cheng Du Liu Bei’s Forces Travel west from the forest down the southern path. Zhang Ren will ambush you. OTHER CHARACTERS DIAO CHAN Battle of Hu Lao Gate Dong Zhuo's Forces Defeat Yuan Shu and the item will be reported east of Fan Shui gate. DONG ZHUO Battle of Hu Lao Gate Dong Zhuo's Forces All ally generals must be defeated apart from Diao Chan and Lu Bu. Diao Chan will now defect. Defeat her and the item will be reported west of Xu Rong's starting position. LU BU Battle of Hu Lao Gate Dong Zhuo's Forces Defeat Guan Yu, Zhang Fei and Liu Bei. A supply unit will appear norh of your position and head towards Cao Cao's starting position. YUAN SHAO Battle of Guan Du Yuan Shao's Forces Keep Wen Chou alive for 10 minutes. A supply team will appear north of the southeast fort and travel towards the southeast gate. ZHANG JIAO Defeat either: all Wei generals all Wu generals or all Shu generals. The item will be reported on the south bank of the nothern river. MENG HUO The Nanman Campaign Nanman Forces Defeat Ma Chao, Zhang Yi and Ma Dai, or Zhang Fei, Zhang Bao and Guan Xing. The item will be reported west of the mountain at the centre of the stage. ZHU RONG The Nanman Campaign Keep Dong Tu Ne and Ahui Nan alive for 15 minutes. The item will be reported near the bridge at the centre of the map. FU XI Assault on Liu Biao Liu Biao's Forces Defeat Huang Gai. The item will be reported in the northwest section of the beach. NU WA Battle of Wan Castle Allied Forces Defeat Dian Wei. The item will be reported north of his original starting position. 3. ITEMS There are 2 kinds item. Blue items affect fundamental stats and vary in value. These appear randomly in levels or after defeating generals. Red items have a fixed value and certain conditions must be met to obtain them. These can be obtained in any difficulty mode. BLUE ITEMS Speed Scroll- Affects your walking speed. Peacock Urn- Affects your health. Dragon Amulet- Affect the length of your musou attack. Tiger Amulet- Affects the power of your attacks. Tortoise Amulet- Affects your defence. Huang's Bow- Affects the strength of your bow attack. Shell Armour- Affect your resistance to enemy arrows. Horned Helm- Affects the strength of your attack whilst on a horse. Cavalry Armour- Affects how much damage you take when hit whilst on a horse. Wing Boots- Affects how high you jump. Seven Star Orb- Affects the usefulness of items dropped by enemies. Elixir- Affects how fast your musou bar charges. Wind Scroll- Affects the reach of your attacks. Red Items Red Hare Saddle- Start the battle mounted on Red Hare (Lu Bu's horse.) Battle of Hu Lao Gate Allied Forces Defeat Lu Bu. A supply team will appear and head towards the central northern gate. Hex Mark Saddle- Start the battle mounted on Hex Mark (Liu Bei's horse.) Assault on Cheng Du Liu Bei's Forces Defeat all enemy officers except Liu Zhang. The item will be reported in the southwest, south of Liu Zhang's starting position. Imperial Saddle- You can mount any horse, regardless of rank. Battle of Yi Ling Shu Forces Defeat Zhu Ran when he appears to stop the fire attack. Then defeat every enemy general except Sun Quan. The supply unit will appear at the northern gate of Sun Quan's camp and travel east. The Art of War- Temporary items are 30% more effective. Battle of He Fei Castle Wei Forces Defeat every enemy general except Sun Quan or defeat 4 of his guard captains. The item will be reported on Sun Quan's ship. Bodyguard Manual- Powers up your bodyguards Battle of He Fei Castle Wu Forces Defeat Xu Zhu. The item will be reported north of his starting position. Way of the Musou- Powers up your musou attack regardless of health Guan Yu's Escape Shu Forces Defeat Xiahou Dun. He will drop the item. Survival Guide- When your life is in the red, your attack is doubled for 30 seconds. Battle of Wu Zhang Plains Shu Forces Wait until 2 of the other playable shu characters other than Zhuge Liang die. You will see a cutscene where shooting stars fall. The item will be reported around the middle of the map. Defender- When your life is in the red, your defence is doubled for 30 seconds. Battle of Wu Zhang Plains Wei Forces Wait until 2 of the other playable wei characters die. You will see a shooting stars cutscene. The item will be reported in the northeast of the map. Fire Arrows- Your arrows become more powerful. Battle of Chi Bi Wei Forces Defeat Zhou Yu before the fire attack. The item will be reported in the middle of the map. Buckler- Your guard is unbreakable. Battle of He Fei Wu Forces Wait for Taishi Ci to be assassinated. Sun Quan will retreat to the southeast. Follow him. Wait for Zhang Liao to ambush Sun Quan and defeat him. He will drop the item. Power Scroll- Never lose weapon deadlocks. Battle of He Fei Wei Forces Wait for Taishi Ci to be assassinated. Then defeat the officers in the centre square. Zhang Liao will attack Sun Quan. Gan Ning will then appear near your HQ. Defeat him and he will drop the item. Golden Harness- Never get knocked off your horse by arrows. Battle of Tong Gate Wei Forces Defeat Ma Chao's 2 officers Ma Dai and Pang De. Now wait for Han Sui to meet with Cao Cao and eventually defect to him. Now defeat all the other enemy officers. Ma Chao will retreat through the Tong Gate. Follow him through.
