Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Walkthrough for PlayStation 2 Game Name: Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Format: PlayStation 2 Submitted By: cjh This walkthrough is intended to take you up to the point where you take over "Ricardo Diaz's" stake in Vice City, allowing you to become the new man to fear in town, and expand deeper into the game, where you can begin to buy property. You do not have to do any of these jobs in a particular order, or in the order I've written them. As long as someone has work for you, you are free to go and take it. Working for one person before the other won't mean the other don't want you. Each character has their own 'Blip' icon in the little circular map to indicate their location. There will be a pink marker for you to enter for each mission to be told the job's details. Work will only be available for a particular person if their icon is on the map. You have a hotel room to begin with, where a clean set of clothes are kept for you, as well as any rewards you earn from collecting the hidden packages. Down in the lobby, just inside the entrance of the hotel, is a spinning pink 'Cassette' icon, which you have to walk into to save your game. The location of the hotel shows up as a 'cassette' blip on the map. It is suggested you go and save the game after each mission you complete, just incase the next one doesn't go so will. If you fail a mission, you can then load up the game again and try once more. You should also make yourself aware of the health and armour boosts around Vice City before you begin working, as well as the weapons scattered about. It is recommended that you go into each mission with full health and body armour, as well as a weapon you feel comfortable using (such as the shotgun or Uzi gun). One location of the shotgun if you look opposite your hotel, and go towards the beach, you'll see the path beside the wall, next to the beach. If you follow the path north all the way to just before the end, you'll see a shotgun by the bench. Use the circular map to you advantage, it is the only real way you can find the locations you have to go to. You'll be given 'blips' on this map to indicate where you have to go to. 'Yellow' blips refer to people or vehicles, where as 'pink' blips mean places. It is recommended you watch all the video clips that appear for the missions, as they will help you. ================================================================= ======== Ken Rosenberg ('L' blip) = ========================== The Party. ========== First, you will need to go and get a chance of clothes. Make your way down to 'Rafaels', which shows up as a 'Shirt' blip on the map, and walk into the spinning clothes icon at the front of his shop. You'll be changed into new clothes. A clip will appear, hinting that you should use the bike parked. This is optional, and not part of the mission. If you want to ride the bike, do so, if not, just use a car. Make your way to the pier of Vice City, where 'Colonel Cortez' has his boat located, and is having a party. His place shows up as a pink blip, so it won't be hard to find, just remember he's by the sea, so you'll need to go around the large building to get to him. Walk into the pink marker and view the video clip. Next, take the daughter of 'Cortez' to the 'pole position' strip club, just up the road from your location (shown as a pink blip on the map). When you get into a car, wait for her to follow, and then drive on. Park inside the pink marker, and let her get out. ================= MISSION COMPLETE. Back Ally Brawl. ================ Make your way to the 'Malibu Club' to see 'Kent'. He'll be inside, so go to the front entrance and walk in via the pink marker. Watch the clip and listen to his info. Make your way back south to the back streets of Vice City to find the 'Chef', who is the yellow blip on the map. When you find him, kill him, and take his phone. This allows you to receive phone calls from now on (press the 'L1' button to answer the phone when it begins to ring). Next, you'll meet Lance, (the guy flying the helicopter when you were trading the drugs for cash at the beginning of the game). Take the gun he gives you, and kill the 3 chefs behind you, taking their weapons if you feel the need to. Follow Lance to his car (he'll be the yellow blip on the map if you loose sight of him), get in, and drive down the road to Ammu-nation, Vice City's local gun store(s). Ammu-nation is the 'gun' blip on the map. If you like, you can go inside Ammu-nation to buy some guns or take a look, but you don't have to. Now, just make your way back to the hotel. ================= MISSION COMPLETE. Jury Fury. ========== Take the hammer from outside Ken's Office, as you'll need it for this mission. You'll see two yellow blips on the map. They will not move, so you can go to whichever one you prefer first. Each blip represents a Jury member, which you have to scare in order for them to make a decision you need in court. One of the guy's won't try to get away, so using the hammer, smash up his car until it is completely wrecked. The other, you have to first hit him (but DON'T kill him), so he gets in his car and drives away. He'll hit a truck so don't worry about chasing him. Then, again smash up the car until he gets out and runs for his life (don't chase him, you don't need to). ================= MISSION COMPLETE. Riot. ====== Make your way to 'Rafaels' for another chance of clothes (he's the 'shirt' blip on the map). Once your dressed for it, make your way to the depot, and get out on foot and mingle with the angry mob. Start a fight with at least 4 men, just a punch to them will count as starting a fight. Once you have punched 4 men, they will all riot and cause the guards to come out and tackle the problem. While they are doing that, go inside the gates and destroy the 3 vehicles in there. To destroy the van on it's own, use the hammer to smash the engine, or shoot it until it explodes. To blow up the two vans next to each other, stand back and using a gun, aim for the red barrel. It'll explode when shot, and take the two vans with it. ================= MISSION COMPLETE. All Jobs for Ken Rosenberg are now complete. ================================================================= ======== ================================================================= ======== Avery Carrington ('A' blip) = ============================= ================= MISSION COMPLETE. Four Iron. ========== First, head over the 'Jacksports', in Vice Point, for a change of clothes. The shop shows up as the 'shirt' blip, so it won't be hard to locate. Once your dressed for it, make your way to the 'Leaf Links' golf club, just up the road and turn left from 'Jacksports'. When you enter the front entrance, your guns will be left outside, but don't worry, you can pick them up when you leave. If you need a weapon, when you get past security, look to your left and you'll see a golf club, which you can use to beat someone to death. Head over to the target, located as the yellow blip, who is teeing off and the golfing range. Either get there by foot, or if you can find one, use a golf buggy. When you get close to him, he'll run and have his bodyguards protect him. Beat them down, and go after him. He'll be in a buggy, so you might want to get in one too. Either try and knock his boggy over or into the water, or try and pull him out and beat him to death. Either way, you have to kill him. ================= MISSION COMPLETE. Demolition Man. =============== Make your way to the van, just down the road from where you are now, and opposite the large office block (which is being built). Get into the van to activate the remote control helicopter. You have to use the helicopter to transport 4 bombs into the building, within the time of 7 minutes, to destroy the building. There are 4 locations within the building, one on each floor, where a bomb needs to be placed. The bomb has to be positioned exactly where your told, and you'll be informed if you didn't place it correctly. It is best to take the first bomb up to the highest floor, and the second to the next floor down, the third on the first floor and the last bomb on the ground. Starting from the top and working down seems to make this mission easier to complete. Once you have placed a bomb in position, fly back to the van for the next. Watch out for the workmen and security guards, as they will try and stop you, attacking the helicopter with their guns and tools. If you take to much damage, the helicopter will blow up and you will fail. ================= MISSION COMPLETE. Two Bit Hit. ============ Make your way to 'Little Havana' on the second Island, where you'll need to change into the Cubans gear (see 'shirt' blip on the map). Make your way towards the funeral parlour (pink blip) north of your location, and look for the gang lord (yellow blip). Don't attempt to kill him until you drive close enough for the gang to see you in the Cuban clothes, and assume it's them making the hit. When they see you, kill the gang lord, then get away from the location. ================= MISSION COMPLETE. All jobs for Avery Carrington are now complete. ================================================================= ======== ================================================================= ======== Colonel Cortez ('C' blip) = =========================== Treacherous Swine. ================== Take the Chainsaw to 'Gonzalez' place and use it to kill him. He's at his home, and is shown as the yellow blip on the map. Make your way to his location, and enter his building through the front door at the bottom of his house. When you get to the top, he'll try to escape, and get his gang friends to help, kill them if you need to, but make sure you get Gonzalez. Once dead, enter the pink marker to exit the building. As you've just murdered someone with a chainsaw, naturally the police will be waiting. Turn to your left and run towards the grass, as there is a police bribe there, which will remove one of your wanted star. Then, if you have one more still highlighted, simply hide behind the building, and hide from the cops, and they will soon give up. Once they do, get back in the car which you used to get to Gonzalez place from the pier. As a bonus, you will have the casual wear change of clothes delivered to the 'Gash' shop in the North Point Mall (Top of Vice City, fist Island). ================= MISSION COMPLETE. Mall Shootout. ============== Go to the mall to meet 'Cortez’s' package and French courier, (yellow blip). He'll be waiting upstairs in the centre of the mall. He'll escape with the chip you need, so chase after him. You'll be better off with a car rather than the bike. Catch up with him and kill him, take his package and get it back to 'Cortez' at his boat. ================= MISSION COMPLETE. Guardian Angels. ================ Head for the multi-story car park, where Cortez has left you a weapon for the next mission. It'll be on the first floor, to the right of the way in. You'll catch up with Lance here, who'll offer to come along and help. Get in the car with him, and drive up to where Diaz is waiting in the ally way (pink blip). When you get there, go up the stairs beside you, armed with the gun you just picked up, and aim down near Diaz. When the gang members arrive, watch over the deal. When it turns bad, kill all of the gang members and protect Diaz, as well as Lance. A gang member will sneak up behind Lance to kill him, so make sure you take that gang member out before he takes Lance out. Kill any reinforcements, as well as watching Lance. Once you've killed them all, two bikers will steal Diaz case. Get down to the dead guys bike and chase the other down the backstreets and kill him. Take the briefcase back to Diaz. ================= MISSION COMPLETE. Sir, Yes Sir!. ============== On the second Island is a tank (yellow blip) which is what Cortez wants you to get a hold off. Make your way to it. When you come closer to it, gain as much speed as you can and run over the walking army people, killing them all. Double back, and try and get the rest running towards you. Next, try and take out the truck load of army people using your biggest guns. Failing that, run like hell towards the tank and shoot the driver on top, making the one inside jump out. Get in the tank and start driving. You'll need to deliver it to the hideout Cortez required, shown as a pink blip. However, the self destruct mode will be activated, so be quick. You can't take to long to get there. Once you get there, park the tank inside the garage, get out and walk away. ================= MISSION COMPLETE. All Hands on Deck. ================== Cortez wants to escape the city, but the French have other ideas. You'll need to be his head gunman to get him out without any scratches. Firstly, you'll need to take out the people who board the boats at the other pier. Stand at the back of the boat, and as they come towards you, shoot at them as much as you can. It would probably be better to shoot at the actual boats, and blow them up, rather than the individuals on the boats. TIP: You can avoid the first lot of gunmen with a bit of planning. Before you enter the pink marker for this job, take a car down to the second entranceway to the pier. Try and wedge the car, lengthways, in the entrance, then get out and blow it up, but not with any large weapons. Just shoot at it until it catches fire. Then, go and do the job for Cortez. When the first lot of bad guys come to get you, they will be unable to get past the car, and unable to board their boats to chase you. Next, you'll have a few boats blocking your path out of the city. You'll need to destroy them, clearing a path for you to pass. Not only that, but you'll have gunmen circling your boat, trying to board and kill you. But, continue to shoot at the boats blocking your path wherever possible, as these need to be moved. Also, you'll be joined buy a helicopter or two, also trying to stop you leaving. Make sure you aim high and shoot the choppers down, before they take you out. Once you have destroyed the choppers, the gunmen, and cleared a path, Cortez can sail away. He'll give you his boat to get back to shore. ================= MISSION COMPLETE. All jobs for Colonel Cortez are now complete. ================================================================= ======== ================================================================= ======== Ricardo Diaz ('D' blip) = ========================= The Chase. ========== Make your way to the thief’s house, which is located in Vice Point (shown as the pink blip). When you arrive, stand in the pink marker, then go an look through his window of the flat, to see if the cash is there. He'll wonder down the steps, get scared and run like hell. Chase him up the stairs and over the rooftops, taking care not to fall off, or get burnt by the flames. Don't shoot at him or attempt you kill him, you need to follow where he's going. When you get to the end of the rooftops and back on the ground he'll drive off, so grab a vehicle and follow him. It's best to use a car, as he will be shooting at you as you chase. Using a bike mean's you'll be easier to hit, and loose more of your health. Remember, don't try and kill him, just follow him to his hideout. You can fall back a little, so as to not get shot as much, but keep him in eye shot (he'll be the yellow blip on the map, should you loose him). Once he arrives and parks up, watch him get out and into the old house. ================= MISSION COMPLETE. Phnom Penh '86. =============== You'll be flown to the house where you just followed the guy in the previous mission. Lance will be piloting while you take aim and shoot. You'll be given the gun ready for this job, and automatically have the line-of-sight set up. You have to kill all the gang members you see while lance fly’s you around the house. Make sure you kill them as quickly as you can, as your helicopter can only take so many hits before it'll explode. Each area has a set number of gang members, and after you kill them all, you'll move on to the next area, until you've circled the house and killed all the gunmen. Lance will set you down. Run into the house you were just circling, taking out any gang members you see. Make your way up the stairs to the briefcase (yellow blip), and take hold of it. Lance will then come and pick you up ================= MISSION COMPLETE. Fastest Boat. ============= Make your way down south of the second Island, to the docks. Head for the boat yard (yellow blip). When you get there, look out for the armed gang members, who'll try and stop you. Gun them down and take their guns, as they are handy weapons. Make sure you kill them all before trying to take the boat. Once you've seen the boat, go inside the boatyard (kill the 3 workmen) and flip the switch to lower the boat you want into the sea. Kill the oncoming gang members, and head for the boat. Get in, and drive it back to Diaz at the back of his mansion. ================= MISSION COMPLETE. Supply & Demand. ================ The boat will be at the back of Diaz's mansion, go and get into it. You have to make your way to the awaiting ship, which has the goods Diaz wants. However, not being the only one who wants it, you'll have to drive pretty fast and be the first to the ship. When you make it to the boat, Lance will take over the driving, and you'll be able to fend of the angry losers. Shoot at the gunmen, rather than the boat if you can, as it'll be quicker to kill the single gunman on the boat than destroy the whole boat itself. Watch out for the guys on the jetty as well. If you can, blow up the barrels, to take them out. Failing that, just shoot and try and hit as many as you can, before they hit you. Next, a helicopter will try gunning you down, so aim high and take out the gunman and helicopter before they get you. Finally, take care of the last boat up ahead, so you can make your way back to Diaz. ================= MISSION COMPLETE. All jobs for Ricardo Diaz are now complete. ================================================================= ======== ================================================================= ======== Tommy Vercetti = ================ Death Row ('K' blip). ===================== After getting a call from 'Kent Paul', get to the Malibu club to see him. Make your way to Lance at the Junkyard on the second Island. You'll have to be as quick as you can, as Lance is loosing blood, fast. The quickest way is to go North and use the bridge next to Leaf Links to get across. When you get to the entrance of the junkyard, drive hard into the gunman standing guard. Get out of your car and just shoot all the gang members as quickly as you can. Make your way towards lance in the holder, shooting the gang members as they come. Stand beside Lance, and get him up. Let him follow you to the car beside the holder, and get in. Lance needs to be taken to the Hospital, shown as the pink blip, which is located north of you. However, gang members will arrive in cars trying to stop you once you exit the junkyard. Drive out of the entrance, and turn right quickly to cross the red bridge and get back onto the road, to help avoid the gang cars and make it harder for them to follow you. Make your way to the main road by the sea, and drive up it towards the hospital. Find the hospital and drop off lance. ================= MISSION COMPLETE. Rub Out ('D' blip). =================== Time to take over from Diaz. You and Lance will storm the house and take out Diaz and his men. Diaz will be inside his home trying to stay safe. Make your way to the front of the mansion and take out the gang members standing guard. Walk up to the front door (which will be locked). While doing this, you'll need to make sure Lance isn't killed, so you will have to take out the guards at the front before going around the back, so they don't chase you and get to Lance. Run around the back of the mansion, on the left hand side. Lance will know where to go, so follow him, shooting all the people you see (Lance aside). Enter the mansions by the back door, and head up the stairs to the first floor. Go through the corridor and to the main hall. Walk up the main stairs and into Diaz's office, and kill him. ================= MISSION COMPLETE. Shakedown ('V' blip). ===================== You are now in control of Diaz's mansion, but need to do one more thing to make a real name for yourself. Get into the car waiting outside for you, and make your way up to the North Point Mall. You'll only have 5 minutes for this job, so be quick. Once you arrive, go inside, and search for the breakable windows. Each window will be shown on the map as a pink blip. You have to smash all the windows in the mall within the time to complete the mission. Simply use your Uzi gun to blow out the windows, and move on. The cops will be after you pretty quickly, so be careful. Outside the 'Gash' shopping store, is a 'casual' change of clothes, so use this to get rid of the police stars if you have on or two on you. There are windows on the grown and upper floors to be taken care of. ================= MISSION COMPLETE. ... there are still more jobs from the Vercetti estate, but which this walkthrough doesn't cover. ================================================================= ======== There you go, you should now be able to continue into the game, purchase property over Vice City, and make a business out of it.
