Saints Row: Multiplayer Guide Intro: ------- While there seem to be a few faqs and walkthroughs for Saints Row floating about, none of them seem to go into much detail about the multiplayer side of things. So here's a brief guide to help you get the better of your opponents online. Weapons: ------------- There are a whole range of weapons to get your hands on. These are: Fists: If you've got the Pimp Hat pickup which means you can dispatch any foe with a single slap, use this up close. If not, forget about it. Baseball Bat: This does plenty of damage up close, but you really need to get the first strike in order for it to be effective. And the moment your opponent backs out of your firing range, you're up the creek. Pistol: A decent short to medium range weapon, but it should only be really used unless you're out of everything else since it does fairly low damage. Uzi: A good short to medium range weapon, that does fairly low damage, but its fast rate of fire means it should be used in place of the pistol if you've got it. It's also one of the few weapons that can be used driving in a car. Shotgun: This is more like it. This does excellent damage at close range, but isn't an effective medium or long range weapon. If you have this, this is the weapon that should always be used at close quarters. It's a little slow to reload but unless your opponent has an AK, you're likely to annihilate them. Try sneaking up behind an opponent and using this before he realizes you're there. AK: A rapid fire machine gun, this is on a par with the shotgun damage wise, but it has a faster firing rate. It's also surprisingly good for medium to long range combat. Sniper Rifle: This does awesome damage, and can kill in two hits, even if you're not using the sniper scope mode. The catch is, it's really slow to reload. Rocket Launcher: This weapon is really best for taking out cars. If you want to use it against a human opponent, try firing not at them but at the ground at their feet, and the splash damage will hurt and possibly kill them. Thrown Weapons: Don't bother - they're all rubbish. General Tactics: ---------------------- Teamwork Counts: If you're playing a team game mode, then for crying out loud, play as a team. Think I'm stating the obvious? Then just try watching a team deathmatch game and see how many people actually work together. Most people just strike out on their own, killing any opponents they come across. That's not what teamwork is about. Instead, organise your team, either beforehand or by using the Live Headset, and move together. So if someone gets taken out, you can gun their killer, And if you work together, you can hold certain strategically important areas - see the 'Mode Tactics' for more details. Remember to heal: Don't forget that holding down on the direction pad will let you heal. Just duck behind a piece of scenery, heal, and you'll be ready to continue the fight. Fatties never prosper: While it may be tempting to make a comedy 'fat bloke in boxers and bunny slippers' character, be aware that the bigger and fatter your character is, the easier a target he is. Carpooling is cool: If you're driving around in a car, stop to pick anyone up on your team. The generally accepted signal for 'get in the damn car' is to stop the car and honk. Your friends can add their firepower to your own. Plus, they can also fire AKs and shotguns while the driver can't. Sniping for fun and profit: Aside from letting you rack up kills, sniping with the rifle is also a good way to keep opponents off your teammates backs. Just be careful to watch your own back. Keep your head down and every twenty seconds or so, look away from the scope and check around you for any approaching players. If you're looking to deal with a sniper, then the best way to get them is to run to cover, hide till your run meter's recharged, then run again, and when you've caught up with them, deliver a shotgun blast to their backs. Certainly, most of the snipers I've killed have not actually been paying any attention to who's coming up behind them. Mode Tactics: ------------------- Gangsta/ Team Gangsta Brawl: Keep moving if you're playing in Gangsta Brawl mode since there's no-one to really watch out for you. If you're part of a team, remember to work as a team and try and secure various areas together. Big Ass Chains/Team Big Ass Chains. It's up to you whether you want to hold onto the chains you collect in this level or deposit them individually. A number appears over the head of anyone carrying more than one chain, so you can become an easy target. Personally, I drop them off because while you get more points the more you carry, if your opponents take you out and collect your chains, it can give them a big lead. You can use team-work here by having one person protect the chain bearer. It's also worth lurking around the chain drop-off area, ready to kill the chain carrier and steal their chains. Blinged Out Ride: It's okay to use your team car as weapon until you get it blinged up to level two. Should your car be destroyed when it's above level 1, it will fall back one level. But until you have got it blinged up, feel free to drive it around the arena. When you've got it ready to drive into the victory area, be sure to have plenty of people in the car to protect it. Conversely, if you can see your opponents are getting close to blinging their car up to the max, try sitting around the victory area getting ready to blast it. Most teams seem to wait till an enemy car's been blinged up before attacking it, but it's actually more efficient to attack it before then. Find the garage closest to your opponents base and try blocking it with a car. This will mean they'll have to get out and destroy the car before driving in, which can leave you with the opportunity to take it out. You will need a lot of firepower to destroy a car since there are no rocket launchers in BOR mode. A good alternative tactic is to shoot the driver then, when he's dead, start laying into the car. As far making money goes, the chain tips from Big Ass Chains mode apply. But you can also make money by killing your opponents, so whenever you kill anyone, be sure to grab the cash. Protect the Pimp : There aren't any real major weak points or strong points to the levels here. Your best tactic is to have the pimp stay back in a quiet room - boring, I know - and have the rest of the team go out and eliminate the other team. Plus, having the pimp in a small room means he can slap anyone who comes in, killing them instantly. Map Tactics: ---------------- Industrial: which can only be had if you buy it from the 360 Marketplace, which is largely suited for close quarters combat, making sniping quite difficult. All the areas on this level are fairly exposed so there's no real place work securing. The Corner: Disappointingly there are no cars on this level, but there are three rooftop areas which, if held, can give you a major advantage since not only can you take out people on other rooftops, you can also snipe into the street below. But beware - watch the stairs as well, since all of the rooftops can be accessed via the stairs. The Ultor Dome: This is a fairly wide open arena level, and it actually has small cars in it. However, there's also a rocket launcher hidden underneath the structure at the centre of the map, which can make quick work of any driver. The top of the seating area makes for an idea sniping position. If you have to deal with a sniper up there, run along and hide behind one of the walls, then run again and keep going till you can take him out. Hotwired: More cars! A rocket launcher which can be used to take out the cars is located on the top floor of this carpark, so if you are planning on mowing down people in your car - and be aware that it may take more than one hit to kill someone - stay away from the top floor. The top floor, or rather the roof, is the area to hold. If you jump onto the wall next to that floor, you can leap down to the ledge at the very top of the car park where you'll find the rocket launcher. If you stay there, grabbing the rocket launcher whenever it respawns, you can annihilate anyone foolish enough to drive up there. Barrio/Hustling: These maps are pretty similar, the only difference being that in one the chain drop-off point is on the ground, in the other level it's in the car park. Both let you use cars which are a godsend. But note that the cars only respawn if they've been destroyed, so if you see a bashed up smoking car, blow it up and a brand new spanking car should respawn in its place. Oddities/Glitches: ----------------------- That's more or less it for now. One last thing of note, it's possible to get an unfair vantage point on some levels by driving a flaming car off a roof. The car will explode and, should you leap out in time, will propel you onto the roof of a nearby building. It's a hard trick to pull off, but it does mean you can somewhere where virtually no other character can get at you.
