VERSION HISTORY [A001]
======================

Version 1.1
-----------
I found some mistakes, like I knew I would, so I fixed them.
I added an FAQ section. I haven't gotten many questions yet but I think I might
so I answered them there.
A few people have sent me corrections to add to this guide, and I did so, along
with giving them credit in the credits section.
I was also sent a chart and it looked like it could be very helpful, so I added
it to my guide. It's in the Characters [B003] section. It's about bonuses

Version 1.0
-----------
As of now, I've completed the guide. This isn't the final version though. It's
highly unlikely that I didn't miss anything and that there's nothing else to
correct. One reason being I make mistakes quite a lot, another because the game
was released just recently.
This time, I made a detailed walkthrough for each course, which is basically
the only thing left for me to do. I also fixed any mistakes I caught as I went
over my guide. If anything was difficult to understand, I tried to fix it. I
also gave the amount of time it takes to unlock each Expert Staff Ghost. I
made this update shortly after the 0.6 version was posted by GameFAQs. I won't
make updates as quickly as I did this, but I'm still going to try and make this
FAQ the best I can.

Version 0.6
-----------
I know exactly what I plan to write, but I haven't actually finished the guide
yet. I'm going to make a walkthrough for all of the courses, which is about 1/4
done. I MAY add a small explanation for the Battle Stages, but I'm not sure if
there's a point because it's pretty much just driving in a small area with
nothing really important to look out for. I'm planning to add the exact time it
takes to unlock each Expert Staff Ghost. Besides that, I'm almost finished.

=====================
ABOUT THE GAME [A002]
=====================

Don't tell me you've never played Mario Kart! Well this is technically the
sixth addition to the series, but only the third main one, and in my opinion,
the best. This Mario Kart is for the Wii, as the title of the game states. So
there really isn't much I need to tell you about the game. Basically, it's
just a racing game with a lot of characters from Mario games. This is
definitely my favorite version. If you like Mario games, this game would be
fun for you.

============
GUIDE [A003]
============

Since you're reading this page, you probably want to pay most of your attention
to this section. It pretty much covers everything you need to know.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GETTING STARTED [B001]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

As if you weren't smart enough to do this on your own... Well, this is a guide,
so I'll walk you through.

First, make sure you're actually playing the game.
You have to select a License. This is a new thing for Mario Kart, but it's
really the same as creating a game file. You have to choose a Mii to put on
the license. Make sure you're not going to delete the Mii. If you are, change
the Mii in License Settings before you do.

That's all you need to do to start. Now just choose what you want to do and
you can start playing!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
CONTROLS [B002]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

There are quite a few ways to take control in this game. Four, exactly. I'm
going to tell you about all of them, in case you don't feel like reading the
manual that comes with the game. The four controllers are:

STEERING WHEEL
Place the remote inside the steering wheel, the power button to the left, and
the wristband through the hole. That way you can attach it to your wrist while
you're steering. The only button actually ON the wheel is the B button on the
back.
-Controls-
B/1: These have the same effect. These are used to drift. You can brake,
reverse, and hop using these buttons, along with canceling.
D-Pad: The direction pad is used to select. During a race, press one of these
to use an item. Forward and backward do matter, depending on where you want to
throw certain items.
A: Confirm an option by pressing A. When racing, this lets you look backward.
Home: You can display the HOME Menu.
+: Display the Pause Menu.
2: Confirm. This is the most important button during the race. It lets you
accelerate.
To steer, just turn the wheel left or right.
To perform a wheelie when riding a bike, lift the wheel up. To stop the
wheelie, push it down.
To perform tricks, simply shake the wheel when jumping.

WII REMOTE & NUNCHUK
If you prefer to use a Control Stick but don't have a Classic Controller or
GameCube Controller, and you like motion sensitivity, this is the perfect
choice for you.
-Controls-
C: Look backward.
Control Stick: Steer or select.
Z: Use an item.
A: Accelerate or confirm.
B: Used for drifting. Brake, reverse, hop, or cancel.
+: Display Pause Menu.
Home: Display HOME Menu.
To perform a wheelie when riding a bike, lift the rmote up. To end it, push
the remote down.
To perform a trick, shake the remote when jumping.

CLASSIC CONTROLLER
If you don't have a GameCube, meaning you have no controllers for one, this is
the perfect alternation for one of the controllers. It may even be better,
since it was made for the Wii.
-Controls-
+: Display Pause Menu.
L: Use an item.
Left Control Stick: Steer or select.
X/ZR: Look backward.
a: Accelerate or confirm.
b/R: This is used for drifting. Break, reverse, or hop. Cancel (only with b).
Home: Display HOME Menu.
D-Pad: Perform a trick when jumping.
Up & Down D-Pad: Perform or end wheelies on a bike.

GAMECUBE CONTROLLER
If you like older controllers, and you're used to Mario Kart: Double Dash, or
you just prefer to use this one, then...OK, I'm not going to say it's perfect,
just use it.
-Controls-
L: Use an item.
Control Stick: Steer or select.
B/R: Used for drifting. Brake, reverse, or hop. Cancel (only with B).
X/Z: Look backward.
A: Accelerate.
START/PAUSE: Display Pause Menu.
D-Pad: Select. Perform a trick when jumping.
Up & Down D-Pad: Perform and end wheelies.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
CHARACTERS [B003]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I'm not only going to tell you the characters, but I'm going to categorize them
under light, medium, or heavy. It does matter, somewhat at least, because the
heavier they are, the slower the kart will move. The difference isn't great
but it's still noticeable.

LIGHTER CHARACTERS
Baby Daisy
Baby Luigi
Baby Mario
Baby Peach
Dry Bones
Koopa Troopa
Toad
Toadette

MEDIUM CHARACTERS
Birdo
Bowser Jr.
Daisy
Diddy Kong
Luigi
Mario
Peach
Yoshi

HEAVY CHARACTERS
Bowser
Donkey Kong
Dry Bowser
Funky Kong
King Boo
Rosalina
Waluigi
Wario

If you use a Mii, it all depends on the height of your Mii. A lot of these
characters must be unlocked. Those will all be explained in the Unlockables
section, don't worry. Mii class A and B are both set as light weight
characters.

Now, this isn't my chart. Below I gave credit to the owners. It wasn't in the
right format, so I retyped it, and tried to make it so it would look neat when
it was up, but I give all credit to them otherwise.
This chart is about the bonuses the characters get.

___________| Speed | Weight | Acc. | Handling | Drift | Off-Road | Mini-Turbo |

~~~~~~~~~~~~
ITEMS [B004]
~~~~~~~~~~~~

Items are very helpful during a race, believe it or not. To use them, you
either have to press the D-Pad on the Steering Wheel or Wii Remote, or L on the
other two controllers. I will list all of the items and tell you exactly what
each one does. Lucky for me, there aren't very many! Some items can be dragged
behind you. If that's the case, it will simply be marked with a '!'.

BANANA/TRIPLE BANANAS!
Press the left button on the D-Pad to equip Triple Bananas, and the left one
again to drop them. Karts that roll over these will spin out for a second.

BLOOPER
Bloopers spray ink on all vehicles ahead of the user. This actually sprays ink
on their screen, causing them to not be able to see exactly what they are doing
and hopefully mess up.

BOB-OMB!
After they are thrown, they explode after a certain amount of time or when a
vehicle runs into them. The vehicles that hit the explosion spin out.

BULLET BILL
These automatically fly you through the track, knocking over any vehicles you
hit on your way.

FAKE ITEM BOX!
If it's possible, the racers will try to grab an item from an item box. If
they hit this one, they flip over. You can tell if it's real, because this one
has a red color, while the others don't.

GOLDEN MUSHROOM
This is like a regular Mushroom, but it can be used as many times as you like
in a short period of time.

GREEN SHELL/TRIPLE GREEN SHELLS!
To equip Triple Green Shells, press left on the D-Pad. Throw one to throw it
in a straight line and hopefully hit somebody, causing them to flip over.

LIGHTNING
Lightning zaps every racer, except for the one who uses it, causing them to
shrink and go slower.

LIGHTNING CLOUD
These items float above you, and after a set amount of time, zap you with
lightning. Why would you want to use this? Well if you bump into a nearby kart,
you can pass the cloud off. Unfortunately, this equips automatically and if no
one is around you, you'll get zapped.

MEGA MUSHROOM
Using one can make you giant for a short amount of time, giving you a small
speed boost, and letting you flatten any vehicles in your way.

MUSHROOM/TRIPLE MUSHROOMS
Mushrooms give a short speed boost. Triple Mushrooms do the same, but you get
three boosts.

POW BLOCK
These shake the ground, causing all other racers to spin out and drop their
items.

RED SHELL/TRIPLE RED SHELLS!
Press left on the D-Pad to equip Triple Red Shells. These home in on the
closest vehicle in front or in back of you, depending on which direction you
throw it, and hit them, causing them to flip over, just like Green Shells. The
best way to avoid these is to throw something like another shell or a banana
in back of you when it's about to hit.

SPINY SHELL
These lock in on the vehicle in first place and hit them, causing an explosion.
Anyone else caught in the explosion flip or spin out along with the first place
racer.

STAR
You are temporarily invincible, and the only think you need to watch out for
while these are taking effect is falling off the edges. These speed you up and
knock over any vehicle you hit.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
KARTS AND BIKES [B005]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Bikes are new to Mario Kart, and are more fun to use than karts, in my opinion.
Only certain characters can use certain karts. Like the characters, these can
be light, medium, or heavy. The light karts can be used by the lighter
characters, medium by medium weight characters, and heavy by heavy characters.

KARTS
-----

LIGHT KARTS
Baby Booster
Blue Falcon
Cheep Charger
Concerto
Rally Romper
Standard Kart S

MEDIUM KARTS
B Dasher Mk 2
Nostalgia 1
Royal Racer
Standard Kart M
Turbo Blooper

HEAVY KARTS
Aero Glider
Dragonetti
Flame Flyer
Offroader
Piranha Prowler
Standard Kart L

BIKES
-----

LIGHT BIKES
Bullet Bike
Magikruiser
Nano Bike

MEDIUM BIKES
Bon Bon
Dolphin Dasher
Mach Bike
Nitrocycle
Rapide
Standard Bike M

HEAVY BIKES
Bowser Bike
Phantom
Standard Bike L
Torpedo
Twinkle Star
Wario Bike

Again, some of these need to be unlocked and are all explained in the
Unlockables section.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
DRIVING TECHNIQUES [B006]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

These are all going to help you to get in a higher place during racing. There
are six of these total. Here they are:

DRIFTING
This lets you take sharp corners without slowing down. By selecting Automatic
Drift, you don't need to do anything extra while turning. On the wheel, or
remote and nunchuk, press B while holding 2 when turning to slide. On the
Classic Controller and GameCube Controller, press B or R to drift.

MINI-TURBO
After you drift for a bit, sparks fly from your tires. Release the button you
are using to drift after blue flames start shooting out to get a boost of
speed. This is only possible when your drift mode is set to Manual.

ROCKET START
Press and hold 2, or A, at just the right time during countdown to rev up your
engine and give yourself a speed boost when you cross the starting line.

SUPER MINI-TURBO
Continue to drift after the blue flames appear and they will turn orange.
Release the drifting button at this point to activate a bigger boost of speed.
This is only possible when your drift mode is set to Manual AND when you're
driving a kart.

TRICK
See the CONTROLS [B002] section.

WHEELIE
See the CONTROLS [B002] section.

==============
COURSES [A004]
==============

Why did this need its own section? Well there are just so many cups and courses
that I felt I should make another section. I'm going to give some tips and
explain each course briefly. Try to watch the beginning previews of the courses
to get a general idea of what it looks like.

The last four cups, with the courses all starting with SNES, N64, GCN, DS, or
GBA all have Retro courses, meaning remakes of older ones, hence the different
console names at the beginning. All the others, meaning the first four cups,
are new Wii courses.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
MUSHROOM CUP [B007]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

COURSES
Luigi Circuit
Moo Moo Meadows
Mushroom Gorge
Toad's Factory

LUIGI CIRCUIT
There is a statue with Luigi's head on it, and sometimes it can be replaced by
a Mii.
On the left, before the boosters, is a ramp where you can perform a trick.
This is a pretty simple course, and there isn't much to explain.

MOO MOO MEADOWS
Follow along the path for a few seconds. You come to a blue ramp. Do a trick to
speed up a little bit. Keep going and you'll pass a windmill, where there is
a speed ramp in front of a patch of grass. Using it saves you lots of time. If
you have a Mushroom, or an item alike to one, use it to ride over the patches
of grass. Otherwise, try to avoid them. After passing them, you're close to the
end. Do a wheelie to get there fast.

MUSHROOM GORGE
Before the start of the race, remember that the red mushrooms bounce you and
the green ones simply provide a floor for you to drive on.
Follow the path until you get past some item blocks, where right after you will
cross a bridge ending with a speed ramp that brings you to a large red
mushroom. Bounce off the mushroom onto the path. Follow the path until you get
to a section where you can either take a speed ramp to a red mushroom, followed
by a green and another red, or you can go around. I suggest using the
mushrooms. Right after you're brought into a cave. Follow through the cave path
for a few seconds until you get to a gorge of mushrooms. See why it's called
Mushroom Gorge? Take whichever path you want. I suggest the one leading down,
only because you're more likely not to fall off. After the gorge you can exit
the cave. Here is a very short path leading to the finish line. If you have a
Mushroom or something of the sort, use it to quickly move over the grass and
get to the finish line faster.

TOAD'S FACTORY
This is a pretty crazy course. After the start, follow the path a little bit
to get to a section where there are some crushers. If you go down the center,
the conveyor belt will push you a little bit faster. Avoid the crushers to make
it past this part in one piece. Follow along a little bit more to get to a
small speed ramp. After you fall over, the path is split a few times. Simply
turn once you get past each break in the path and this section will be pretty
easy. After that short section are some conveyor belts leading left and right
with some boxes on them. The boxes will slow you down if you hit them. The
conveyor belts aren't very wide (if you look at them from the point in which
they are going up) so they won't greatly affect your driving. Go through the
opening and follow along a little bit. You will find two conveyor belts. One
leads forward, one back. Obviously take the forward-leading one. These change
direction after an occuring lap, so take the other next time. Take the speed
ramp a little after to the outside. Follow the bumpy path until you get to
some closing walls. The walls close to the point where the speed tiles are
hidden. Go straight forward, using the speed tiles if possible, to pass through
the walls. After that, there is a speed ramp. Do a trick on it to get some
speed. After just a little bit of driving you come to the finish line.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FLOWER CUP [B008]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

COURSES
Mario Circuit
Coconut Mall
DK's Snowboard Cross
Wario's Gold Mine

MARIO CIRCUIT
This is a pretty basic course, really. Head north, from the start. You'll be
heading towards Princess Peach's Castle. Once you're pretty close to the
castle, make a turn to the right. It's pretty much a U-Turn since you're going
to turn right again just a second after. Keep following the path until you get
to a large sphere-shaped creature. If you TRULY have never seen one, or you
don't know what it's called, or both, it's called a Chain Chomp. They aren't
always that big, but in this game, they are. Don't touch it or you'll flip
over. Go under the short bridge and follow along the path some more. You will
pass by a Goomba, which, again, in case you don't know, is the brown-colored
creature with no arms. You'll come to a long row of trees after a little bit of
traveling. Nothing important, except that after this is the finish line.

COCONUT MALL
In this course, there are so many paths you can take that I won't be able to
explain them all. You must be smart enough to figure out what to do though.
They're generally all the same length. Otherwise, the race wouldn't be fair.
From the start, head into the mall. Take the escalator leading up. These can
switch directions after each completed lap, just so you know. Go either down
the stairs or around them. You'll come to another set of escalators. Go down
the, what appears to be, metal path. You can now exit the mall. Above the
fountain, a little farther down, are some item blocks. The fountain can be used
as a ramp. Head up the metal path, along with the one appearing just after.
You come to a speed ramp on a clear path that ends in another speed ramp with
some item blocks. Do a trick to gain some speed. Turn after going far enough.
Use the speed tiles if you can. Avoid the Miis driving in the cars. Some of
these Miis were probably created by you. After passing them, turn right and
cross the finish line.

DK'S SNOWBOARD CROSS
Go straight forward to come to a turn to the right. You will be let through
when you come close enough. Take the rocket to be shot pretty far away. This
short path is pretty steep. Go down a little bit until you get to a speed ramp.
Take it to gain some speed by doing a trick. Go forward, avoiding the snow
that's higher up, so you don't get slowed down. There are some speed ramps on
the way. After going far enough, you come to another steep path. Try not to
fall off. Keep heading down. You'll come to some speed tiles. If you go up the
sides of the path, you'll see some blue tiles that can shoot you up. Some of
them can get you to item blocks. Keep heading forward to come to the finish
line.

WARIO'S GOLD MINE
Go forward just a bit to come to a railway. Go along the railway a little to
come to a section where it leads straight down, beginning with a speed tile.
After you go down, you can come right back up by going forward after getting
an item. Like the signs say, turn left. Make a U-Turn to the right and go down
the path. Try to avoid the bats so you don't get pushed out of the way. Keep
taking the path until you get to a speed ramp. Land after using the ramp, and
keep going forward along the long path until you eventually have to turn right
where you will, right away, cross the finish line.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
STAR CUP [B009]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

COURSES
Daisy Circuit
Koopa Cape
Maple Treeway
Grumble Volcano

DAISY CIRCUIT
This isn't a very difficult course. Follow the path for a few seconds until
you're heading towards a pink building. You can go through the open door on the
building for a shortcut. Once you get to the big statue, go either way around
it. It really doesn't matter which. Do the same with the following one. You are
taken under a bridge. The ground descends a little bit, so follow for a few
seconds and you will be able to get out. Follow the path to get to a long U-
Turn and after a little bit of traveling you reach the finish.

KOOPA CAPE
After the countdown, go along the road just a little to get to a speed ramp. Do
a trick to gain some speed after the fall. Go a little further and you have the
option to take a ramp to gain some speed. A few seconds later, you can repeat
this. Like the sign says, you're coming to a U-Turn to the left. Get an item if
you wish, from riding up the side wall. Make the turn and jump off the speed
ramp. This area looks quite a bit different. Drive on the rushing water to gain
a good amount of speed. Try to drift when you come to turns though. If you
don't, you may run into the wall. Simply use the ramps and try to get through
this area pretty fast. Then you come to a waterfall, where you will slide
straight down with it into a large pipe. You are brought into a tube. When you
pass the beams in here, try not to hit them, or you just get slowed down. After
moving just a little forward in the pipe you can slide on some water. Again,
try to drift when you're at a turn. In here, if you get on a wall it can get
really annoying because you tend to turn the kart the other way and it takes
forever to get back on track. At the end of a tube you'll get to some speed
ramps. Here's a great opportunity to gain speed. Try not to go in the water
here or it might drag you off the side and you fall over the edge. On the wall
are some item blocks. Keep driving and you will reach the finish line.

MAPLE TREEWAY
Move along the path a bit and you come to a rocket that shoots you off into the
tree. Go a little further and you will come to a tree branch. Try not to fall
off of it. You'll eventually get off the branch. Don't be afraid to hit the
piles of leaves. They don't slow you down. Just don't get stomped on. In a few
seconds you come to another tree branch with some speed tiles on it. After this
branch, you make a right U-Turn. Keep following the path into a tunnel and
across a bridge. Fly off the speed ramp and ride the tree branch to a bouncy
metal floor. After getting off the floor, you get to normal ground, ending at
the finish line.

GRUMBLE VOLCANO
Go along the path into the volcano, and immediately out. Keep going to pass a
ramp and to go inside a tunnel. There's a fork in the path. Take whichever path
you please. Then just keep following the path past some speed ramps. Avoid the
lava shooting out of the ground. You come to another fork after a little bit of
driving. Avoid the creatures so you don't get slowed down. Just go a little
further and you end at the finish line.

SPECIAL CUP [B010]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
COURSES
Dry Dry Ruins
Moonview Highway
Bowser's Castle
Rainbow Road
DRY DRY RUINS
This is a remake of the area in the game Paper Mario (64), released in 2001.
Very great game. Anyways, after the countdown start to drive along the path.
You come to a bridge (made up of just regular ground) taking you over the
water. This is the desert though! Oh well. Keep driving. There are a lot of
turns in this course. Don't let the pillars fall on you. Now you can enter the
ruins. The edges in here have some item blocks at the top. Keep driving until
you get to a wider area with a lot of sand falling from the ceiling. Avoid the
Pokeys. Exit the ruins, on a speed ramp, to get back to the desert. Pass
another speed ramp. Just a little further into the course you come to the
finish line.
MOONVIEW HIGHWAY
You have to be careful on this course. If a car hits you, you'll just get
slowed down. Drive along the highway for a few seconds, avoiding the vehicles.
You go under a short red bridge. Drive into the tolls and they go up quickly
when you go near them. Cross the speed tile, and take the other few, if you
can, along the road. Keep going until you get into a tunnel. Use some more
speed tiles here. Go through the toll to, shortly after, reach the finish line.
BOWSER'S CASTLE
Cross the bridge with the speed tiles to enter the castle. Go up the staircase
and cross the wobbly floor. Keep moving, avoiding the Thwomps (big blocks with
faces dropping down on you). Keep going towards a speed ramp to get to a
different area. Follow along here, using the speed tiles, trying to avoid the
flames the Bowser statue is breathing at you. Go around the statue and take the
ramp to a different area. Keep going along the path until you cross another
speed ramp. Follow along and you will come to some lava bursting out of the
ground. Avoid these and cross the finish line.
RAINBOW ROAD
They always use this course on Mario Kart, and this one is by far the trickiest
yet. Go straight forward, down a very steep hill. Use all the speed ramps you
can without falling off. You come to a small tunnel with a bunch of speed
tiles. After it, you can get an item at the edge. Keep driving to get to a
wobbly floor and a speed ramp. After going over the ramp, go around the
openings in the center of the path. Here you will find a few turns. Try to stay
on the path. You will get shot through a star that works like a rocket. Ooh...
colors! Take the speed tiles until you're almost completely sideways. You go
through a tunnel onto another road. Take the ramp. Make a U-Turn to the left
and go just a little forward to cross the finish.
SHELL CUP [B011]
COURSES
GCN Peach Beach
DS Yoshi Falls
SNES Ghost Valley 2
N64 Mario Raceway
GCN PEACH BEACH
Go forward and get an item. If it's a Mushroom or something of the sort, take
the leftmost shortcut. If not, that will most likely just slow you down. If you
take the rightmost path, avoid the cataquacks. It's obvious what those are,
since there is nothing else here. They aren't trying to mess you up, they just
like to throw stuff in the air. Yes, that is true. Keep going along the path to
ascend and, pretty soon, come to the finish line. This is a very short course,
indeed.
DS YOSHI FALLS
Go forward. If you want to go on the side and you're able to avoid falling off
because of the waterfall, go for it. That will get you somewhat ahead. Cross a
bridge, and do the same thing, avoiding the waterfall. That's much quicker. Use
the speed tiles and just keep going forward to get to the finish line. Another
very short course here.
SNES GHOST VALLEY 2
This course is basically just a lot of turns. Go forward and make a right U-
Turn. Then make a left U-Turn. Then make another right U-Turn and then turn to
the left. Follow the path a little bit. When you can go straight towards the
finish line, use the yellow panel, which is actually a speed tile, to go
faster. Right after it is a very small ramp. Then cross the finish.
N64 MARIO RACEWAY
Go forward and make a turn to the right. Shortly after, make another. Then make
two left turns and pass a large mushroom. Make a right U-Turn. Go forward and
turn to the left, then just a little to the right, then go straight forward to
make a right U-Turn, and a regular left turn. Go through the large pipe, which
is sort of like a tunnel. Then keep following the path to end at the finish
line.
BANANA CUP [B012]
COURSES
N64 Sherbet Land
GBA Shy Guy Beach
DS Delfino Square
GCN Waluigi Stadium
N64 SHERBET LAND
This course is quite simple. Just start driving and make a few turns. Pass the
big boulder and drive a little to go into a cave. Drive forward, avoiding the
penguins, making all the turns, until you can exit the cave. Go forward for a
few more seconds making about two turns and then you can cross the finish.
GBA SHY GUY BEACH
Go forward. The Shy Guys will be shooting cannonballs at you. Move across a few
islands of sand. You'll get to some islands with green areas on them. I'm not
exactly sure what that stuff is supposed to be...possibly seaweed? Well just
don't go on those areas unless you have speed items, such as Mushrooms. Take a
ramp and travel some more. As difficult and annoying it may be when you're near
them, try hard to avoid the crabs. Cross over a few more islands of sand, and
get to a larger one with a ramp, taking you to another. Go straight forward and
make a small left turn to get to the finish line.
DS DELFINO SQUARE
Go forward and ascend a little bit. Follow the path for a while. Once you get
to a split in the road (it takes a while) take the left path. That's just my
suggestion. Follow along the path until you get through all the buildings and
make a left turn when the time comes. Try not to fall over the edge. Turn right
and go along the narrow, yet secured, path (the one with the buildings). Go
forward to come to a bridge. It may be either up or down. It changes. Use the
speed tiles, or if it's up, the speed ramps. Follow the path and come to a
right turn. Go forward and cross the finish.
GCN WALUIGI STADIUM
Go forward and make a right U-Turn on the bumpy road. Take the speed ramp. Make
another U-Turn, and again, use the speed ramp. Try not to hit the fireballs
when you're in the air. Turn to the left twice to get to some flames spinning
around. Although they do nothing but block the path, avoid the Piranha Plant
figures coming out of the pipes. On the edges are some item blocks. Turn to the
left once you get past the Piranha Plants and go over two large bumps. Then
turn right. Follow the path and take the speed ramp to end at the finish line.
COURSES
DS Desert Hills
GBA Bowser Castle 3
N64 DK's Jungle Parkway
GCN Mario Circuit
DS DESERT HILLS
Go forward, past the water (seriously, what's up with the water in the desert
courses?) and make a long U-Turn to the right. Then follow the path a little
bit more. Avoid hitting the Pokeys. Then, all you really have to do is keep
going along the path until you reach the finish.
GBA BOWSER CASTLE 3
This is a lot like the SNES Ghost Valley 2 course, but it's Bowser's course and
it's surrounded by lava and has a lot of Thwomps. It's a little bit more diffi-
cult. Follow along for a little while and use all the yellow ramps to perform
tricks. Avoid the brown patches, or you will slow down. Take the speed ramp in
front of the two Thwomps. Then just keep following along to eventually get to
the finish line. It really just requires a lot of turns.
N64 DK'S JUNGLE PARKWAY
Follow along the path, making a huge turn to the right after a few seconds.
Take the oddly-designed speed ramp over a small island onto another island.
Start heading left. Make all the turns. You will descend a little after just a
little while. Cross over the narrow bridge and go into the cave. Once you exit
the cave, you can cross the finish line.
GCN MARIO CIRCUIT
Go forward and make a turn to the left, then another to the right. Avoid being
hit by the Chain Chomp. Go into the tunnel and then out. Go along the path,
avoiding the Piranha Plants. They will flip you over. Drive along the bumpy
road. Try not to hit the Goombas. Then just drive a little further and you'll
be at the finish line.
LIGHTNING CUP [B014]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

COURSES
SNES Mario Circuit 3
DS Peach Gardens
GCN DK Mountain
N64 Bowser's Castle

SNES MARIO CIRCUIT 3
There honestly isn't much I can tell you about this course. Just drive along,
trying to stay in the center, and not hitting the walls. Just before the
finish, just like in the SNES Ghost Valley 2 course, is a yellow arrow that's
actually a speed tile. Use it to speed up towards the finish line.

DS PEACH GARDENS
Go forward and turn to the left. Move a little further through the course and
avoid the patches of flowers. They will slow you down. If you can quickly drive
past a corner, which you can in the upcoming flower patch, you can go through
quickly. You can also do this using a speed item, like a Mushroom. Pass through
all the hedges, avoiding the Chain Chomps. If you can, grab an item from behind
them. Then, move further, avoiding the flower patches again. After a little bit
of driving, you come to some ground where moles can pop out. Try not to get hit
by one. Make a right turn to drive onto the front of the castle. Then drive
down the steps and cross the finish line.

GCN DK MOUNTAIN
Ascend up the path a bit and then take the cannon up to the volcano. Descend
the side of the volcano, taking the ramps to gain speed. It's a little bumpy.
Then you can make a lot of U-Turns down the mountain. Avoid the rocks, and try
not to fall in. Cross the bridge and you can cross the finish line.

N64 BOWSER'S CASTLE
Cross the bridge. Drive a little bit, avoiding the Bowser statue breathing out
fire, and enter the castle. There are a lot of Thwomps in this room. Try not to
let them get in your way. Make all the turns until you get to a section where
three Thwomps are blocking off the entrance. Try not to get smashed by them.
Drive a little bit more, again, avoiding the Thwomps and the fire-breathing
statues. Cross the bridge. Go down the short hallway with all the Bowser por-
traits. Make a U-Turn to the left. Then turn right and cross a bridge. Make a
circle around the tower until you get to the top. Jump off the speed ramp,
along with the following ramp. Then go a little further to cross the finish
line.

=================
GAME MODES [A005]
=================

Now, does this seem to be the type of game where only one person should play at
a time? It certainly doesn't to me. There is definitely more than just single
player mode in this game. The sections with the amount of players will be put
briefly, mostly because there isn't much to explain.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SINGLE PLAYER [B015]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Don't think of this as just one person playing, unless, of course, it is. What
I mean by this is, there are CPUs playing with you. Yeah, OK, maybe it's just
you. You can play any mode when it's just one player. The playable modes are
explained later, but I will list them right here:

Grand Prix
Time Trial
VS
Battle

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
MULTIPLAYER [B016]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Multiplayer mode is a local race. This means that there is no such thing as
playing online when you're in Multiplayer mode. That would be pointless. You
will read why later. This type of race can have anywhere from two to four
players. The playable modes are:

VS
Battle

This is what I like less about this Mario Kart. In the GCN version you could do
Grand Prix in Multiplayer, from what I recall. That's the only thing worse
about this version though. Everything else makes the game so much better than
the older ones in the series.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
NINTENDO WFC [B017]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Nintendo WFC is just a fancy name for going online. It's not just on this game,
it's for anything that has to do with logging onto the internet using a Wii.
This is also called WiiConnect24 sometimes.

Just because your friends aren't there with you to play on your Wii, it doesn't
mean that you can't still play with them. If they're online, and you want to
ask them to join a race with you, just find them and meet up. It's pretty
obvious what you have to do once you're on the Nintendo WFC mode. Playable
modes are:

VS
Battle

If you're waiting for a match to start, you can message your friends.

If you just want to play random people online, just create a room. Technically,
this is a Grand Prix because there can be up to 12 people in a race.

When you play online, you have to vote for the next stage. Your choices are
either to vote for any course in the came, or to simply choose random if you
don't care which course.

You can choose Worldwide or Regional. Worldwide is, obviously, anyone
worldwide who owns the game. Regional is anyone who lives in your region.

To register a friend, simply find the "Register a Friend" choice in Nintendo
WFC mode. You will first need their friend code.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
MARIO KART CHANNEL [B018]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

There is very little for me to say about this particular section.

In the Mario Kart Channel, you can download ghosts and send them to your
friends. You can also get information about tournaments run through the
channel, as well as information about events. You don't have to have the Mario
Kart disk in if you download the channel.

*****************
GRAND PRIX [C001]
*****************

In Grand Prix, it's one player racing eleven others.

The four classes are:

50cc
100cc
150cc
150cc Mirror Mode

Mirror Mode has to be unlocked.

In 50cc, only karts can race. In 100cc, only bikes can race. In 150cc, both
can race.

All you really need to do is choose a character, choose whether or not you
want Automatic Drifting, and the cup you want to race in. Each cup contains
four courses. There are eight cups total, but you start with four. Once you
start to play through all the cups, you will unlock them all.

*****************
TIME TRIAL [C002]
*****************

Beat the clock! It's you against you. You can race against staff ghosts in
this mode. There is more about staff ghosts in the Unlockables section. This
is basically just to time yourself and see how fast you can get through a
course. The amount of time is going to be a little longer when you're playing
against others, CPUs or not, because of all the items and stuff used.

*********
VS [C003]
*********

In this mode, you can play against a lot of CPUs, or vs. one to three other
people. It's basically just a Grand Prix but you can be on teams and play
against your friends. Otherwise, it's nothing new. By the way, in this mode
you can change the rules a bit. You can change the engine class, CPU
difficulty, vehicle types, and a lot more.

*************
BATTLE [C004]
*************

In Single Player Mode, you battle against CPUs, and in Multiplayer, against
one to three friends.

The two modes are Balloon Battle and Coin Runners.

In Balloon Battle, you must try to pop the other team's balloons. At the end,
whoever has the most points is the winner.

In Coin Runners, the team that collects the most coins wins.

This mode doesn't have the same courses you race on. Think about it...how
would you be able to battle on those? Here is a list of Wii Stages:

Block Plaza
Chain Chomp Roulette
Delfino Pier
Funky Stadium
Thwomp Desert

The Retro Stages are:

DS Twilight House
GBA Battle Course 3
GCN Cookie Land
N64 Skyscraper
SNES Battle Course 4

The stages are pretty small.

==================
UNLOCKABLES [A006]
==================

There's a great range of things to unlock in this game. There are cups,
characters, and a few more things. I categorized it pretty well so you wouldn't
have trouble following it. This is what it will look like:

-Unlockable-
How to get it
(Other, more difficult, ways to get it)

Since I haven't mentioned this yet, you get ranked on your performance during
Grand Prix Mode. You can get up to three stars. To get a lot of unlockables,
you need a one star on a lot of the cups. To get three stars, you need to get
60 points, meaning you get 1st place in all four races during the cup.

By the way, only the Mii on your license can be used, and only after you unlock
an outfit. There are three total (below).

OK, ready?

==========
FAQ [A007]
==========

Got questions? Look at these first. Currently, there are only a few, but more
might be added.

QUESTION: How long did it take you to write this?
ANSWER: Heh, I made this question up. People sometimes get asked that anyway
when they write guides, and hey, I needed more questions, so why not
just put this in here? Honestly, it took me three days. I started
April 27, 2008, when it came out, and I submitted this FAQ April 28.
I know that's only two days but I didn't get to Version 1.0 until the
29th. I'm pretty sure this was updated the day after. I'm still
making updates, but not counting it as how long it actually took me
to write this.

QUESTION: How do you play with a Mii?
ANSWER: Get the Mii Outfit A or B. I said that there was an Outfit C in my
guide. That's false. Someone, who asked to be credited as Skip, told
me this. Believe me, I wasn't making stuff up. I read that on a web-
site and assumed it was true. Sorry about that. It has been removed.

QUESTION: What's my Friend Code?
ANSWER: It's on your License. The 12-digit code is your Friend Code.

==============
CREDITS [A008]
==============

Here's where I give credit to all the people who have something to do with this
guide.

First person I'm giving credit to: me! I wrote this guide, did I not?

I also want to thank Nintendo. Otherwise, this game wouldn't exist, and I
wouldn't be writing this.

GameFAQs was the first site to add this guide, so they're a really important
site to put here.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here are the sites that added this after GameFAQs:

Cheat Code Central (cheatcc.com)
NeoSeeker (neoseeker.com)
Super Cheats (supercheats.com)
Games Radar (gamesradar.com)
Cheat Planet (cheatplanet.com)
Gamers Hell (gamershell.com)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Other people that contributed to this guide:

-Mindark, Mander, and Snappie. They all sent me the chart found in the
characters section, about the bonuses. This is the best help anyone has sent me
yet.

-Skip. He told me that Mii Outfit C doesn't exist. The internet LIES, I tell
you! I know I read somewhere that there was an Outfit C. I should've known it
would be super hard to get 15,000 points though.
He also says that Mii class A and B are set as light weight characters, and I
was also told (like it says below) that the height changes the weight of the
characters. Ohhh, confusing. Still, it must be correct.

-Jethro. Even though it wasn't a huge correction, I made the mistake of writing
that the WEIGHT of your Mii changes how fast they can go. I should've said
height, so I changed it to height.

That's all so far. If I think I should add anything else later I definitely
will.

LEGAL SECTION [A009]
====================

Before I do anything else, I take no credit for helping with the creation of
this game in any way whatsoever.

I guess I don't care if you post this on your site or whatever, but if you want
to, you have to e-mail me first at [email protected]. This document shouldn't
be changed, meaning you copy and paste this whole thing from top to bottom. If
it were a previous version of the guide I wouldn't care, but you should keep
checking until it's officially the final update.

That's it. But before I finish, I have to copyright this.

======================
VERSION HISTORY [A001]
======================

Version 1.1
-----------
I found some mistakes, like I knew I would, so I fixed them.

```````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
=====================
ABOUT THE GAME [A002]
=====================
Don't tell me you've never played Mario Kart! Well this is technically the
sixth addition to the series, but only the third main one, and in my opinion,
the best. This Mario Kart is for the Wii, as the title of the game states. So
there really isn't much I need to tell you about the game. Basically, it's
just a racing game with a lot of characters from Mario games. This is
definitely my favorite version. If you like Mario games, this game would be
fun for you.
GUIDE [A003]
============
Since you're reading this page, you probably want to pay most of your attention
to this section. It pretty much covers everything you need to know.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GETTING STARTED [B001]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As if you weren't smart enough to do this on your own... Well, this is a guide,
so I'll walk you through.
First, make sure you're actually playing the game.
You have to select a License. This is a new thing for Mario Kart, but it's
really the same as creating a game file. You have to choose a Mii to put on
the license. Make sure you're not going to delete the Mii. If you are, change
the Mii in License Settings before you do.
That's all you need to do to start. Now just choose what you want to do and
you can start playing!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
CONTROLS [B002]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There are quite a few ways to take control in this game. Four, exactly. I'm
going to tell you about all of them, in case you don't feel like reading the
manual that comes with the game. The four controllers are:
STEERING WHEEL
Place the remote inside the steering wheel, the power button to the left, and
the wristband through the hole. That way you can attach it to your wrist while
you're steering. The only button actually ON the wheel is the B button on the
back.
-Controls-
B/1: These have the same effect. These are used to drift. You can brake,
reverse, and hop using these buttons, along with canceling.
D-Pad: The direction pad is used to select. During a race, press one of these
to use an item. Forward and backward do matter, depending on where you want to
throw certain items.
A: Confirm an option by pressing A. When racing, this lets you look backward.
Home: You can display the HOME Menu.
+: Display the Pause Menu.
2: Confirm. This is the most important button during the race. It lets you
accelerate.
To steer, just turn the wheel left or right.
To perform a wheelie when riding a bike, lift the wheel up. To stop the
wheelie, push it down.
To perform tricks, simply shake the wheel when jumping.
WII REMOTE & NUNCHUK
If you prefer to use a Control Stick but don't have a Classic Controller or
GameCube Controller, and you like motion sensitivity, this is the perfect
choice for you.
-Controls-
C: Look backward.
Control Stick: Steer or select.
Z: Use an item.
A: Accelerate or confirm.
B: Used for drifting. Brake, reverse, hop, or cancel.
+: Display Pause Menu.
Home: Display HOME Menu.
To perform a wheelie when riding a bike, lift the rmote up. To end it, push
the remote down.
To perform a trick, shake the remote when jumping.
CLASSIC CONTROLLER
If you don't have a GameCube, meaning you have no controllers for one, this is
the perfect alternation for one of the controllers. It may even be better,
since it was made for the Wii.
-Controls-
+: Display Pause Menu.
L: Use an item.
Left Control Stick: Steer or select.
X/ZR: Look backward.
a: Accelerate or confirm.
b/R: This is used for drifting. Break, reverse, or hop. Cancel (only with b).
Home: Display HOME Menu.
D-Pad: Perform a trick when jumping.
Up & Down D-Pad: Perform or end wheelies on a bike.
GAMECUBE CONTROLLER
If you like older controllers, and you're used to Mario Kart: Double Dash, or
you just prefer to use this one, then...OK, I'm not going to say it's perfect,
just use it.
-Controls-
L: Use an item.
Control Stick: Steer or select.
B/R: Used for drifting. Brake, reverse, or hop. Cancel (only with B).
X/Z: Look backward.
A: Accelerate.
START/PAUSE: Display Pause Menu.
D-Pad: Select. Perform a trick when jumping.
Up & Down D-Pad: Perform and end wheelies.
CHARACTERS [B003]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I'm not only going to tell you the characters, but I'm going to categorize them
under light, medium, or heavy. It does matter, somewhat at least, because the
heavier they are, the slower the kart will move. The difference isn't great
but it's still noticeable.

LIGHTER CHARACTERS
Baby Daisy
Baby Luigi
Baby Mario
Baby Peach
Dry Bones
Koopa Troopa
Toad
Toadette

MEDIUM CHARACTERS
Birdo
Bowser Jr.
Daisy
Diddy Kong
Luigi
Mario
Peach
Yoshi

HEAVY CHARACTERS
Bowser
Donkey Kong
Dry Bowser
Funky Kong
King Boo
Rosalina
Waluigi
Wario

If you use a Mii, it all depends on the height of your Mii. A lot of these
characters must be unlocked. Those will all be explained in the Unlockables
section, don't worry. Mii class A and B are both set as light weight
characters.

Now, this isn't my chart. Below I gave credit to the owners. It wasn't in the
right format, so I retyped it, and tried to make it so it would look neat when
it was up, but I give all credit to them otherwise.
This chart is about the bonuses the characters get.

___________| Speed | Weight | Acc. | Handling | Drift | Off-Road | Mini-Turbo |

~~~~~~~~~~~~
ITEMS [B004]
~~~~~~~~~~~~

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
KARTS AND BIKES [B005]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Bikes are new to Mario Kart, and are more fun to use than karts, in my opinion.
Only certain characters can use certain karts. Like the characters, these can
be light, medium, or heavy. The light karts can be used by the lighter
characters, medium by medium weight characters, and heavy by heavy characters.

KARTS
-----

LIGHT KARTS
Baby Booster
Blue Falcon
Cheep Charger
Concerto
Rally Romper
Standard Kart S

MEDIUM KARTS
B Dasher Mk 2
Nostalgia 1
Royal Racer
Standard Kart M
Turbo Blooper

HEAVY KARTS
Aero Glider
Dragonetti
Flame Flyer
Offroader
Piranha Prowler
Standard Kart L

BIKES
-----

LIGHT BIKES
Bullet Bike
Magikruiser
Nano Bike

Standard Bike S
Torpedo

MEDIUM BIKES
Bon Bon
Dolphin Dasher
Mach Bike
Nitrocycle
Rapide
Standard Bike M

HEAVY BIKES
Bowser Bike
Phantom
Standard Bike L
Torpedo
Twinkle Star
Wario Bike

Again, some of these need to be unlocked and are all explained in the
Unlockables section.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
DRIVING TECHNIQUES [B006]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

COURSES [A004]
==============

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
MUSHROOM CUP [B007]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

FLOWER CUP [B008]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
COURSES
Mario Circuit
Coconut Mall
DK's Snowboard Cross
Wario's Gold Mine
MARIO CIRCUIT
This is a pretty basic course, really. Head north, from the start. You'll be
heading towards Princess Peach's Castle. Once you're pretty close to the
castle, make a turn to the right. It's pretty much a U-Turn since you're going
to turn right again just a second after. Keep following the path until you get
to a large sphere-shaped creature. If you TRULY have never seen one, or you
don't know what it's called, or both, it's called a Chain Chomp. They aren't
always that big, but in this game, they are. Don't touch it or you'll flip
over. Go under the short bridge and follow along the path some more. You will
pass by a Goomba, which, again, in case you don't know, is the brown-colored
creature with no arms. You'll come to a long row of trees after a little bit of
traveling. Nothing important, except that after this is the finish line.
COCONUT MALL
In this course, there are so many paths you can take that I won't be able to
explain them all. You must be smart enough to figure out what to do though.
They're generally all the same length. Otherwise, the race wouldn't be fair.
From the start, head into the mall. Take the escalator leading up. These can
switch directions after each completed lap, just so you know. Go either down
the stairs or around them. You'll come to another set of escalators. Go down
the, what appears to be, metal path. You can now exit the mall. Above the
fountain, a little farther down, are some item blocks. The fountain can be used
as a ramp. Head up the metal path, along with the one appearing just after.
You come to a speed ramp on a clear path that ends in another speed ramp with
some item blocks. Do a trick to gain some speed. Turn after going far enough.
Use the speed tiles if you can. Avoid the Miis driving in the cars. Some of
these Miis were probably created by you. After passing them, turn right and
cross the finish line.
DK'S SNOWBOARD CROSS
Go straight forward to come to a turn to the right. You will be let through
when you come close enough. Take the rocket to be shot pretty far away. This
short path is pretty steep. Go down a little bit until you get to a speed ramp.
Take it to gain some speed by doing a trick. Go forward, avoiding the snow
that's higher up, so you don't get slowed down. There are some speed ramps on
the way. After going far enough, you come to another steep path. Try not to
fall off. Keep heading down. You'll come to some speed tiles. If you go up the
sides of the path, you'll see some blue tiles that can shoot you up. Some of
them can get you to item blocks. Keep heading forward to come to the finish
line.
WARIO'S GOLD MINE
Go forward just a bit to come to a railway. Go along the railway a little to
come to a section where it leads straight down, beginning with a speed tile.
After you go down, you can come right back up by going forward after getting
an item. Like the signs say, turn left. Make a U-Turn to the right and go down
the path. Try to avoid the bats so you don't get pushed out of the way. Keep
taking the path until you get to a speed ramp. Land after using the ramp, and
keep going forward along the long path until you eventually have to turn right
where you will, right away, cross the finish line.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
STAR CUP [B009]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
COURSES
Daisy Circuit
Koopa Cape
Maple Treeway
Grumble Volcano
DAISY CIRCUIT
This isn't a very difficult course. Follow the path for a few seconds until
you're heading towards a pink building. You can go through the open door on the
building for a shortcut. Once you get to the big statue, go either way around
it. It really doesn't matter which. Do the same with the following one. You are
taken under a bridge. The ground descends a little bit, so follow for a few
seconds and you will be able to get out. Follow the path to get to a long U-
Turn and after a little bit of traveling you reach the finish.
KOOPA CAPE
After the countdown, go along the road just a little to get to a speed ramp. Do
a trick to gain some speed after the fall. Go a little further and you have the
option to take a ramp to gain some speed. A few seconds later, you can repeat
this. Like the sign says, you're coming to a U-Turn to the left. Get an item if
you wish, from riding up the side wall. Make the turn and jump off the speed
ramp. This area looks quite a bit different. Drive on the rushing water to gain
a good amount of speed. Try to drift when you come to turns though. If you
don't, you may run into the wall. Simply use the ramps and try to get through
this area pretty fast. Then you come to a waterfall, where you will slide
straight down with it into a large pipe. You are brought into a tube. When you
pass the beams in here, try not to hit them, or you just get slowed down. After
moving just a little forward in the pipe you can slide on some water. Again,
try to drift when you're at a turn. In here, if you get on a wall it can get
really annoying because you tend to turn the kart the other way and it takes
forever to get back on track. At the end of a tube you'll get to some speed
ramps. Here's a great opportunity to gain speed. Try not to go in the water
here or it might drag you off the side and you fall over the edge. On the wall
are some item blocks. Keep driving and you will reach the finish line.
MAPLE TREEWAY
Move along the path a bit and you come to a rocket that shoots you off into the
tree. Go a little further and you will come to a tree branch. Try not to fall
off of it. You'll eventually get off the branch. Don't be afraid to hit the
piles of leaves. They don't slow you down. Just don't get stomped on. In a few
seconds you come to another tree branch with some speed tiles on it. After this
branch, you make a right U-Turn. Keep following the path into a tunnel and
across a bridge. Fly off the speed ramp and ride the tree branch to a bouncy
metal floor. After getting off the floor, you get to normal ground, ending at
the finish line.
GRUMBLE VOLCANO
Go along the path into the volcano, and immediately out. Keep going to pass a
ramp and to go inside a tunnel. There's a fork in the path. Take whichever path
you please. Then just keep following the path past some speed ramps. Avoid the
lava shooting out of the ground. You come to another fork after a little bit of
driving. Avoid the creatures so you don't get slowed down. Just go a little
further and you end at the finish line.
SPECIAL CUP [B010]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

COURSES
Dry Dry Ruins
Moonview Highway
Bowser's Castle
Rainbow Road

DRY DRY RUINS
This is a remake of the area in the game Paper Mario (64), released in 2001.
Very great game. Anyways, after the countdown start to drive along the path.
You come to a bridge (made up of just regular ground) taking you over the
water. This is the desert though! Oh well. Keep driving. There are a lot of
turns in this course. Don't let the pillars fall on you. Now you can enter the
ruins. The edges in here have some item blocks at the top. Keep driving until
you get to a wider area with a lot of sand falling from the ceiling. Avoid the
Pokeys. Exit the ruins, on a speed ramp, to get back to the desert. Pass
another speed ramp. Just a little further into the course you come to the
finish line.

MOONVIEW HIGHWAY
You have to be careful on this course. If a car hits you, you'll just get
slowed down. Drive along the highway for a few seconds, avoiding the vehicles.
You go under a short red bridge. Drive into the tolls and they go up quickly
when you go near them. Cross the speed tile, and take the other few, if you
can, along the road. Keep going until you get into a tunnel. Use some more
speed tiles here. Go through the toll to, shortly after, reach the finish line.

BOWSER'S CASTLE
Cross the bridge with the speed tiles to enter the castle. Go up the staircase
and cross the wobbly floor. Keep moving, avoiding the Thwomps (big blocks with
faces dropping down on you). Keep going towards a speed ramp to get to a
different area. Follow along here, using the speed tiles, trying to avoid the
flames the Bowser statue is breathing at you. Go around the statue and take the
ramp to a different area. Keep going along the path until you cross another
speed ramp. Follow along and you will come to some lava bursting out of the
ground. Avoid these and cross the finish line.

RAINBOW ROAD
They always use this course on Mario Kart, and this one is by far the trickiest
yet. Go straight forward, down a very steep hill. Use all the speed ramps you
can without falling off. You come to a small tunnel with a bunch of speed
tiles. After it, you can get an item at the edge. Keep driving to get to a
wobbly floor and a speed ramp. After going over the ramp, go around the
openings in the center of the path. Here you will find a few turns. Try to stay
on the path. You will get shot through a star that works like a rocket. Ooh...
colors! Take the speed tiles until you're almost completely sideways. You go
through a tunnel onto another road. Take the ramp. Make a U-Turn to the left
and go just a little forward to cross the finish.

SHELL CUP [B011]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
COURSES
GCN Peach Beach
DS Yoshi Falls
SNES Ghost Valley 2
N64 Mario Raceway
GCN PEACH BEACH
Go forward and get an item. If it's a Mushroom or something of the sort, take
the leftmost shortcut. If not, that will most likely just slow you down. If you
take the rightmost path, avoid the cataquacks. It's obvious what those are,
since there is nothing else here. They aren't trying to mess you up, they just
like to throw stuff in the air. Yes, that is true. Keep going along the path to
ascend and, pretty soon, come to the finish line. This is a very short course,
indeed.
DS YOSHI FALLS
Go forward. If you want to go on the side and you're able to avoid falling off
because of the waterfall, go for it. That will get you somewhat ahead. Cross a
bridge, and do the same thing, avoiding the waterfall. That's much quicker. Use
the speed tiles and just keep going forward to get to the finish line. Another
very short course here.
SNES GHOST VALLEY 2
This course is basically just a lot of turns. Go forward and make a right U-
Turn. Then make a left U-Turn. Then make another right U-Turn and then turn to
the left. Follow the path a little bit. When you can go straight towards the
finish line, use the yellow panel, which is actually a speed tile, to go
faster. Right after it is a very small ramp. Then cross the finish.
N64 MARIO RACEWAY
Go forward and make a turn to the right. Shortly after, make another. Then make
two left turns and pass a large mushroom. Make a right U-Turn. Go forward and
turn to the left, then just a little to the right, then go straight forward to
make a right U-Turn, and a regular left turn. Go through the large pipe, which
is sort of like a tunnel. Then keep following the path to end at the finish
line.
BANANA CUP [B012]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

COURSES
N64 Sherbet Land
GBA Shy Guy Beach
DS Delfino Square
GCN Waluigi Stadium

N64 SHERBET LAND
This course is quite simple. Just start driving and make a few turns. Pass the
big boulder and drive a little to go into a cave. Drive forward, avoiding the
penguins, making all the turns, until you can exit the cave. Go forward for a
few more seconds making about two turns and then you can cross the finish.

GBA SHY GUY BEACH
Go forward. The Shy Guys will be shooting cannonballs at you. Move across a few
islands of sand. You'll get to some islands with green areas on them. I'm not
exactly sure what that stuff is supposed to be...possibly seaweed? Well just
don't go on those areas unless you have speed items, such as Mushrooms. Take a
ramp and travel some more. As difficult and annoying it may be when you're near
them, try hard to avoid the crabs. Cross over a few more islands of sand, and
get to a larger one with a ramp, taking you to another. Go straight forward and
make a small left turn to get to the finish line.

DS DELFINO SQUARE
Go forward and ascend a little bit. Follow the path for a while. Once you get
to a split in the road (it takes a while) take the left path. That's just my
suggestion. Follow along the path until you get through all the buildings and
make a left turn when the time comes. Try not to fall over the edge. Turn right
and go along the narrow, yet secured, path (the one with the buildings). Go
forward to come to a bridge. It may be either up or down. It changes. Use the
speed tiles, or if it's up, the speed ramps. Follow the path and come to a
right turn. Go forward and cross the finish.

GCN WALUIGI STADIUM
Go forward and make a right U-Turn on the bumpy road. Take the speed ramp. Make
another U-Turn, and again, use the speed ramp. Try not to hit the fireballs
when you're in the air. Turn to the left twice to get to some flames spinning
around. Although they do nothing but block the path, avoid the Piranha Plant
figures coming out of the pipes. On the edges are some item blocks. Turn to the
left once you get past the Piranha Plants and go over two large bumps. Then
turn right. Follow the path and take the speed ramp to end at the finish line.

LEAF CUP [B013]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
COURSES
DS Desert Hills
GBA Bowser Castle 3
N64 DK's Jungle Parkway
GCN Mario Circuit
DS DESERT HILLS
Go forward, past the water (seriously, what's up with the water in the desert
courses?) and make a long U-Turn to the right. Then follow the path a little
bit more. Avoid hitting the Pokeys. Then, all you really have to do is keep
going along the path until you reach the finish.
GBA BOWSER CASTLE 3
This is a lot like the SNES Ghost Valley 2 course, but it's Bowser's course and
it's surrounded by lava and has a lot of Thwomps. It's a little bit more diffi-
cult. Follow along for a little while and use all the yellow ramps to perform
tricks. Avoid the brown patches, or you will slow down. Take the speed ramp in
front of the two Thwomps. Then just keep following along to eventually get to
the finish line. It really just requires a lot of turns.
N64 DK'S JUNGLE PARKWAY
Follow along the path, making a huge turn to the right after a few seconds.
Take the oddly-designed speed ramp over a small island onto another island.
Start heading left. Make all the turns. You will descend a little after just a
little while. Cross over the narrow bridge and go into the cave. Once you exit
the cave, you can cross the finish line.
GCN MARIO CIRCUIT
Go forward and make a turn to the left, then another to the right. Avoid being
hit by the Chain Chomp. Go into the tunnel and then out. Go along the path,
avoiding the Piranha Plants. They will flip you over. Drive along the bumpy
road. Try not to hit the Goombas. Then just drive a little further and you'll
be at the finish line.
LIGHTNING CUP [B014]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Then go a little further to cross the finish
line.

=================
GAME MODES [A005]
=================

Now, does this seem to be the type of game where only one person should play at
a time? It certainly doesn't to me. There is definitely more than just single
player mode in this game. The sections with the amount of players will be put
briefly, mostly because there isn't much to explain.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SINGLE PLAYER [B015]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Don't think of this as just one person playing, unless, of course, it is. What
I mean by this is, there are CPUs playing with you. Yeah, OK, maybe it's just
you. You can play any mode when it's just one player. The playable modes are
explained later, but I will list them right here:

Grand Prix
Time Trial
VS
Battle

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
MULTIPLAYER [B016]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
NINTENDO WFC [B017]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
MARIO KART CHANNEL [B018]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

There is very little for me to say about this particular section.

In the Mario Kart Channel, you can download ghosts and send them to your
friends. You can also get information about tournaments run through the
channel, as well as information about events. You don't have to have the Mario
Kart disk in if you download the channel.

*****************
GRAND PRIX [C001]
*****************

In Grand Prix, it's one player racing eleven others.

The four classes are:

50cc
100cc
150cc
150cc Mirror Mode

Mirror Mode has to be unlocked.

In 50cc, only karts can race. In 100cc, only bikes can race. In 150cc, both
can race.

All you really need to do is choose a character, choose whether or not you
want Automatic Drifting, and the cup you want to race in. Each cup contains
four courses. There are eight cups total, but you start with four. Once you
start to play through all the cups, you will unlock them all.

*****************
TIME TRIAL [C002]
*****************

Beat the clock! It's you against you. You can race against staff ghosts in
this mode. There is more about staff ghosts in the Unlockables section. This
is basically just to time yourself and see how fast you can get through a
course. The amount of time is going to be a little longer when you're playing
against others, CPUs or not, because of all the items and stuff used.

*********
VS [C003]
*********

In this mode, you can play against a lot of CPUs, or vs. one to three other
people. It's basically just a Grand Prix but you can be on teams and play
against your friends. Otherwise, it's nothing new. By the way, in this mode
you can change the rules a bit. You can change the engine class, CPU
difficulty, vehicle types, and a lot more.

*************
BATTLE [C004]
*************

In Single Player Mode, you battle against CPUs, and in Multiplayer, against
one to three friends.

The two modes are Balloon Battle and Coin Runners.

In Balloon Battle, you must try to pop the other team's balloons. At the end,
whoever has the most points is the winner.

In Coin Runners, the team that collects the most coins wins.

This mode doesn't have the same courses you race on. Think about it...how
would you be able to battle on those? Here is a list of Wii Stages:

Block Plaza
Chain Chomp Roulette
Delfino Pier
Funky Stadium
Thwomp Desert

The Retro Stages are:

DS Twilight House
GBA Battle Course 3
GCN Cookie Land
N64 Skyscraper
SNES Battle Course 4

The stages are pretty small.

==================
UNLOCKABLES [A006]
==================

OK, ready?

==========
FAQ [A007]
==========

==============
CREDITS [A008]
==============

Here's where I give credit to all the people who have something to do with this
guide.

First person I'm giving credit to: me! I wrote this guide, did I not?

I also want to thank Nintendo. Otherwise, this game wouldn't exist, and I
wouldn't be writing this.

GameFAQs was the first site to add this guide, so they're a really important
site to put here.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here are the sites that added this after GameFAQs:

Cheat Code Central (cheatcc.com)
NeoSeeker (neoseeker.com)
Super Cheats (supercheats.com)
Games Radar (gamesradar.com)
Cheat Planet (cheatplanet.com)
Gamers Hell (gamershell.com)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Other people that contributed to this guide:

-Mindark, Mander, and Snappie. They all sent me the chart found in the
characters section, about the bonuses. This is the best help anyone has sent me
yet.

-Skip. He told me that Mii Outfit C doesn't exist. The internet LIES, I tell
you! I know I read somewhere that there was an Outfit C. I should've known it
would be super hard to get 15,000 points though.
He also says that Mii class A and B are set as light weight characters, and I
was also told (like it says below) that the height changes the weight of the
characters. Ohhh, confusing. Still, it must be correct.

-Jethro. Even though it wasn't a huge correction, I made the mistake of writing
that the WEIGHT of your Mii changes how fast they can go. I should've said
height, so I changed it to height.

That's all so far. If I think I should add anything else later I definitely
will.

LEGAL SECTION [A009]
====================
