Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay is undeniably one of the best looking games on the Xbox. A sharp, defined look coupled with the enthralling story makes for an amazing game and one which you'll no doubt want to play through in it's entirety. As such, I've decided to write a walkthrough for those stuck on any section of game. Simply find the area you're having difficulty with to find the solution and you'll be on your merry way again.

This walkthrough does not focus on the smokes you can find nor the submissions. It was written to get you through the entire game so focuses on the main plot:

From the beginning then:


== Opening Sequence ==

After exiting the ship, Johns will tell you not to move and will turn to speak to the other convict. The third convict then whispers to you that you should break Johns neck. Take heed of his advice by crouching, positioning yourself behind Johns and, by pressing the R-trigger, you'll break Johns neck. A sentry gun will open fire from further down the platform but, after it kills a convict, will stop firing. Turn around from where you're standing you you'll see a hatch. Drop down into the corridor.

Follow the corridor until you appear overlooking an engineer fixing a door security panel. Walk up to him and he'll turn around. You'll then get into your first fist fight. To kill him quickly, pull left-right combos for as long as you can mixing in the uppercut and elbow hits if you feel like it. After he's dead, pick up his security card and use it on the door. Through the door, there'll be a guard patrolling the corridor ahead. Wait until he's walking away from you before sneaking (in stealth mode) up behind him to break his neck. Pick up the vent tool he drops but leave the rifle - you can't use it yet. Head into the large room further down the corridor and climb the boxes to your left. Climb onto the hang-rail and swing across until the guard appears down below. You don't need to drop onto him but if you feel the need to practise, the position yourself above him and simply let go of the rail to instantly kill him. If you decide to leave him, just carry on across the hang-rail and climb through the vent at the end.

Make your way through the vent until you reach the grate. Kick it out and drop into the room. Pick up the yellow cartridge on the floor and use it on the nanomed machine on the wall to recharge it. If you need the health, you can now use the nanomed machine. Follow the corridor until you see the guard at the desk. He'll turn around and run at you. He's armed with a shotgun which you can use against him. Just as he swings to hit you with the weapon, press the R-trigger and Riddick will counter attack blowing the guards head off with his own shotgun. Pick up the shotgun and climb the boxes at the opposite end of the room. Climb over the railing and pass through the door.

Outside you'll see a guard patrolling. Wait until he's standing facing away before sneaking up behind him to break his neck. Find the nearby ladder that leads down to the sewer entrance. Shoot the lock of the sewer grate and enter the sewers. Use the flashlight on the shotgun if you need to find your way but you should be wary of the guards knowing where you are if you turn it on. Follow the sewer corridor and you'll come across a guard about to walk down a corridor. Behind him are some explosives barrels which you can shoot to kill him instantly. A guard from the corridor to your left may come and inspect, kill him and head down the corridor. Several more guards will be positioned further down the corridor so take them out and head into the light to finish the section.


== Butcher Bay ==

On arrival at Butcher Bay, Johns will talk to Hoxie to discuss the price for handing you over. Abbot will take you into Butcher Bay, you can't move so just look around and listen to what Abbot has to say. After they've placed you in your cell, you're free to wander the jail. Talk to the man standing outside (called Barber) who'll tell you to go talk to Mattison as he knows about escaping. Follow the corridor that leads right as you leave the cell. Head into the courtyard and speak with Mattison. He'll tell you he's hidden a shiv for you in his cell. Head back down the corridor you came and look for the newly opened cell. Head inside and you'll be ambushed by two inmates. Keep you're guard up if they're both trying to hit you and time your counter attacks carefully. After they're both dead, go back and speak to Mattison in the courtyard. He'll tell you he's working for Rust - the head honcho in Butcher Bay - and that to make it up to you, he'll bring a shiv to your cell. Speak to the other inmates in the courtyard, one will offer to help you if you kill Rust. Head back to your cell and a cutscene will play.

If you'd like a weapon, you can kill an inmate called Molina who has a knuckle duster. You can find him in a newly opened cell - two other inmates want him killed so you can find them once he's dead to receive some rewards (nothing you need though). Head back into the courtyard and the door opposite will now be open. Head through to enter Aquila territory to get Rust.


== Aquila Quarters ==

As soon as you enter Aquila territory, two inmates will run at you. As with the last two inmates, keep your guard up and counter attack when you can. Once they're dead, head around the corner. An inmate will kick a fire extinguisher at you, move out of it's way before heading down the corridor to fight the inmate waiting there. He's armed with a shiv so don't be afraid to back off if you need to. Once he's dead, pick up his shiv and arm yourself with it. Continue down the corridor until you see the leaking barrel. An inmate will light the contents and the barrel will explode so move back once you see it being set alight. Continue following the corridor and kill the inmate waiting for you using the shiv. In the next large room is Rust. Use the shiv on him using short combos before moving back. Repeat this tactic until he's dead and a cutscene will play.

Once back in your cell, head to the courtyard and speak with Haley. He'll tell you that if you're planning on escaping through the nearby pit then you're going to need a rifle. He tells you to speak with Bulder, a guard near the entrance where you originally come into Butchers Bay. Head over to him and he'll let you through into the infirmary.


== Infirmary ==

Once in the infirmary, you'll see two guards. Once will be patrolling and the other will be standing at the door. Kill the one patrolling as he is armed. Sneak up behind him and snap his neck, you don't need to do it quietly as the other guard will see you anyway. He'll then run over so kill him. Pick up the security card one of them drops and head through the door at the opposite end of the room. You'll find a large machine which you can use to increase you're total health by one box. After doing so, climb the ladder nearby. Follow this path and a guard will appear with a rifle. Get close to him to reverse his attacks and to slash him with a shiv. Once he's dead, find the grate and head through the vent. On the other side, a guard will be patrolling the platform on your left. Use the pillars as cover when moving to the other side of the room. Head in this direction until you reach a ladder. Use the darkness in this next section for cover. As long as the guards don't have their flashlights on, you'll be find. Just pick them out by using the red laser on their heads. Follow the only path you can until you reach a security door. Open this with the card you picked up earlier to enter the Mainframe.

Once in the Mainframe, you'll see an engineer down below working on the DNA Database. Find a way down and kill him, then use the machine to enter your DNA into the Database. Pick up the rifle to your right as you face the machine as guards will appear. The come through a door to your left facing the machine so pick them off with the rifle as they appear. Head down the newly opened door taking out any guards you see. At the end of the corridor, a guard will throw a grenade. After it's exploded, kill him and remove the debris from the nearby wall which was destroyed in the blast. In this next room, a guard will be patrolling with a shotgun. Kill him and use the nearby panel to stop the vent fan above from spinning. Climb the boxes and make your way to the fan, climb through the vent and into the. Follow the corridors past the several guards taking them out as you go. You'll eventually reach a service hatch which you can climb through into a room full of gas. Turn the flow of gas off and head onwards. Follow the corridor killing yet more guards as you go. Eventually, you'll reach a large room full of guards. Use the boxes for cover and take them out from a distance. One guard will be positioned to your right as you enter the room, two more will be in the far corner whilst the final guard will be hiding in the cove opposite to where you enter. Sneak around taking pot shots until all guards are dead. A riot guard will then appear. These are heavily armed and armoured, you need to sneak around to shoot the back of the guard. Use the boxes for cover again and make your way around to take the guard by surprise. A few shots into the back and the guard will die. Use the lift in the corner to enter the next wing of the now rioting prison.


== Prison Riot ==

You'll notice a nanomed close by which you can use if you're low on health as well as a valve. Turn the valve then head over to the ramp which leads into darkness. You'll see an inmate standing there who'll get shot by a guard. The guard will come up to inspect the body at which point you can shoot him. Head down the ramp and there'll be another guard waiting at the bottom. Take him out and edge slowly into prison corridor. The sentry guns mounted on the wall will now be active so take them out with a carefully placed shot. Continue following the corridor making sure not to get caught out by a sentry gun. You'll see and inmate running at one point but a guard will shoot him, kill the guard and continue around the corner to kill a second guard. Follow the corridor killing any guards or sentry guns you see until Riddick says that the door you need to get through is locked - you need a radio. Head back through the corridors killing the new guards who have appeared. Near the ramp you came down on will be a guard with a radio, kill him and take the radio. Riddick will use the radio and the door will open. Head back to the door killing and guards you encounter and walk into the courtyard. A cutscene will play showing you falling into the pit.


== The Pit ==

Pick up the shotgun the guard dropped. The flashlight has only 6 minutes left of battery power so get moving straight away. In the pit there are creatures called dwellers who attack by physically punching you. Keep them at a distance when attacking, one shotgun shell will take them out. You can only be caught off-guard here if a dweller sneaks up behind you, it might be a good idea to turn sensitivity of the analogue stick up high so that you can quickly turn around if you think you're being followed. The pit is a small maze with plenty of long corridors. You're looking for a valve which opens the door out of the pit so head to the bottom level of the pit with all the blue radioactive substance and trawl the corridors until you find the valve. Head to the level above and search the corridors until you find the metal grating door. Use the valve to open the door and use the lift.

On the floor above, you'll meet Pope Joe. He'll tell you he's lost a box that speaks (it's a radio) which he wants back. Take the flares (you can take 12 but you'll only need about 4) and the shotgun ammo before heading back down the lift. Instead of going back the way you came, head into the new corridor in the pit. Throw flares if you need to see where you're going making sure to equip the shotgun again if you see any dwellers. Follow the corridor and you'll soon find the radio on the floor. Take it, this will attract more dwellers take them out if they get in your way. Head back to the lift and up to Pope Joe. Give him the radio and a cutscene will play.


== Guards Quarters ==

Now you have the eye-shine ability you can use it to see in the dark vent. Head to the bottom of the vent and follow the path, killing any dwellers that attack you, until you reach the ladder which leads up into the guards quarters.

You'll appear in the shower room from the pit. Head out of the shower room and you'll see a guard on the toilet. Head to the bottom of this room and you'll see a light switch. Turn the lights off and wait for a guard to come and inspect. Kill him, then go back to kill the guard on the toilet so that you don't get attack from behind. Head into the guard's locker room killing any guards you see in there. Check all the lockers for the change of clothes and any other items and head into the corridor. Kill the guards patrolling that area. Head through the corridors killing any guards you find, avoid the lighter areas if you can because you can now use the eye-shine to see in the dark and kill any guards silently. On passing through these corridors you'll soon reach a hanger door with a retina scanner. Try to use and Riddick will say he needs Abbot's eyes to open the door. Find the entrance off the hall to enter the guards quarters.

Put your gun away in the large hall as none of the guards will attack you. Speak to the man behind the grate selling items. Explain to him you're looking for Abbot and he'll hand you a package to deliver to him. You need to find Abbots room now so pass all the guards rooms checking the names as you go. Abbot's room will be one of the last you'll be able to check. Ring the doorbell and select the bottom option in the dialogue list. You'll enter Abbots room where you'll get into a gun fight with him. Use the objects in the room for over and keep your distance. Keep firing at Abbot until the cutscene plays.


== Double Max. ==

Leave the cell you came in and walk through the door to your left. Head into the lift and watch the inmate start screaming where a guard will then shoot him. Once the elevator stops, walk out and talk to the inmate who travelled in the lift with you. He'll tell you to speak to either Dogbone or Centurion for details on how to get out. Find Centurion first as you need to fight a few people before anybody will respect you in double max. Speak with him and he'll tell you to speak with the blueskin across the courtyard - he's guarding the door. Speak to him to arrange a fight, then go back to talk with Centurion to begin the fight. Use simple combos before moving back making sure not to step out of the ring, he's pretty easy to defeat so should be too much trouble. Once dead, speak with Centurion and he'll tell you to arrange another fight with somebody. Head towards the Feed Ward. Once inside, you'll get into a fight with another blue skin. Quickly dispatch him, pick up the poison he drops and move on into the next room. A prisoner called Monster is sitting towards the back of the canteen and can sell you some items. You don't need any of them put the club will make fighting easier. Go back to the recreation courtyard. In the yard opposite the door for the Feed Ward there are two prisoners. Speak to the once called Cricket and buy the shiv. The 2nd inmate, his helper, will go to hide the case in a secret place. Go back to the Feed Ward and follow the assistant keeping your distance. You'll see he puts it into a hole in the wall. Check the hole and pick up all the items you find in there.

Go back to the recreation courtyard and find and inmate called Twotounge. You'll give him one of the items you found in the hole in the wall (the injector) but will ask that you still kill and inmate in a fight. Find and inmate called Baasim and ask him to fight you. Speak with Centurion again to begin the fight. Use the shiv (or club if you bought it) on Baasim making use of quick combos to kill him most efficiently. Once dead, collect your money from Centurion and go speak with twotounge again. Now you've killed Baasim, he'll offer to sell you some items. Buy the drugs he's selling and head over to the courtyard opposite the Feed Ward. Approach the guards and they'll check you for drugs. On finding the drugs, they'll throw you in the interrogation room where you'll meet Abbot again. The best tactic to defeat him is to use an equipped weapon to do a 1-2 combo on him before backing off. He'll swing for you, then run at you where you should do another combo before backing off. Repeat this tactic until he's dead. Pick up his security card and club (if you don't already have one) and leave the room. Take your first right as you walk along the corridor and you'll find a machine that will permanently give you more health. After using this, leave the interrogation section.

Now you need to head over to the work pass area where the riot guard is standing near the mine entrance. Turn right as you walk into the work pass area and head over to power room. Riddick will use Abbot's card to enter the room. In here the lights will flicker on and off and will eventually stop working. Enable your eye-shine and sneak up behind the closest guard. Snap his neck quietly and drag his body behind the crates you walk past as you enter the room. Repeat this process for the second guard standing there and drag his body away. Finally, snap the engineer's neck. You should note that there is a small gap between the floor and the stairs to hide in if you get spotted at any point during this bit. Pick up the vent tool dropped by the engineer and pass through the vent on your left as you enter the room which leads to the top of an elevator to the mines.


== Upper Mines & Lower Mines ==

Crawl over to the hole in the top of the elevator and you'll see two guards exiting. Wait for the second one to pass underneath and then drop down onto him. Continue sneaking and snap the other guard who carries on walking. Walk over the bridge and past the crates. You'll see a cave leading to your right, head down here until you see the guard. The best tactic, since you're not armed, is to let him see you, then run back to find a hiding place amongst the crates. He'll come and try to find you which is when you can sneak up behind him and snap his neck. Continue on your path down the cave and you'll come across a security checkpoint.

In here there are two regular guards and a riot guard, the aim being to keep any of them from seeing you. Sneak behind the crates stacked to your left and hide behind them. Make sure none of the guards are patrolling and move to the back wall. You'll be able to climb onto a ledge on this back wall which leads to a hang-rail. Jump onto the hang-rail and shimmy across to the opposite platform. Climb the large crates there until you reach the platform. Go through the door and you'll be in the upper mines. You appear on a platform with many guards patrolling on other platforms and on the floor. The best method is to use the many crates to sneak onwards down the large corridor. If you can, it's handy to break some of the guards necks as fewer guards make it easier for you to pass through this section. At the end of the large corridor you'll find a door which leads up some stairs. Pass through this corridor until you reach a small room where a guard and a blueskin are talking. Sneak up behind the guard and break his neck, the blueskin will thank you and tell you that you need a security card before passing any further into the mines. Sneak into the next room and you'll see a guard captain patrolling. Wait until is back is turned then break his neck and pick up the security card he drops. Carry on walking along the platform and you'll see a guard shouting at a worker below. Slide down the nearby ladders and break the guards neck then walk into the elevator nearby. Press the elevator button and you'll appear on a new level.

As soon as the elevator door opens sneak over to the crates you'll see in the far left corner of the room. Hide behind these until the guard walks up and stops. Snap his neck then wait for the worker to come around and Snap his neck. Disable the sentry guns by using the panel behind the giant drill machine, then climb the crates you was hiding behind and cling onto the hang rail. Climb through the corridor avoiding the riot guard below. Head into the large drilling/container room where, behind some of the large containers to your right as you enter, is Jaguar Valance. He'll tell you that he needs a package retrieving from a nearby room filled with toxic gas. After he's finished talking, head over to the containers in the far corner opposite the ramp. Sneak around these containers looking for any guards patrolling the area and snap their necks when you can. If you're spotted at any time, run back to these containers and hide in the dark until things cool down. Head up the ramp and push the guard standing near the rollers into the pit for a particularly gory death. Head through the door in this room and hide in the corner to your right as soon as you pass through the door. A guard will walk past so sneak up to him and snap his neck. Continue down this corridor and you'll find the room shut off from the rest because of the gas leak. Enter the code into the nearby keypad and the door will open. Crouch and crawl to get into the room. Once inside, climb the boxes that block the gap between the two rooms. You'll find the package Jaguar needs in the middle of the large room. Pick it up and leave heading back to where you spoke with Jaguar. Give Jaguar the package and he'll tell you that you could plant a bomb in the gas filled room because it's above a nest of strange creatures and it'd cause havoc in Butcher Bay. He tells you to speak with a man called Jupiter to get a bomb, he's in Tower 19.

Head back to the large elevator that brought you down to the lower mines (where you killed the two guards who rode the elevator). Head back to the power room where the lights were flickering. On the opposite side of the room to where you passed through the vent will be a guard standing near the door. Pick up the tranquilizer gun from onto of the panel the engineer was working on and shoot him with it. You need to stomp on him because the tranq gun only stuns the victim, it doesn't kill. Pass through the door and follow this path until you appear on the platform above the Feed Ward. Proceed with caution as the guns positioned around the Ward can still shoot at you whilst you're here. Use the tranq gun on any guards you find. Follow the platform until you pass through a large vault-like door past this door on your right is a panel which turns the lights off in the corridor. Turn them off and a guard will come and inspect. Shoot him with the tranq gun and stomp him. There is another guard around the corner so shoot him when he's walking away from you. Follow this path and you'll eventually reach a ventilation shaft which leads to Tower 19.


== Tower 19 ==

Exit the vent shaft and shoot the guard patrolling with the tranq gun. Watch for when he's walking away before attacking so that you don't take any damage. Pick up the security card he drops and use it to pass through the door leading into the container room. The container doors will open and Jupiter will walk out, speak with him to get the bomb. After he's finished talking, quickly run into one of the containers to take cover as two guards appear and start shooting. Jupiter will be shot dead at this point so don't worry about him. Use the tranq gun on the two guards at each end of the room, then jump onto the containers that are being lowered. You'll see them appear every so often, when one is about level with the platform you're on, jump onto it to exit Tower 19.


== Container Track ==

The guards will shut down the power to the track and the container you're on will grind to a halt. Look over the front of the container to see the two guards below. Shoot them with the tranq gun then drop down to finish them off. Underneath the container is a ladder. Use the ladder to access the underground tunnel. A guard will be patrolling down here so shoot him, then stomp him. Find the ladder near the tranq gun on the floor and climb up it. Follow the path until you reach a guard patrolling near two security doors. Shoot him and stomp him. Enter the vent nearby and pass through it, shoot any guards you see below as you can go back and finish them off later.

Find the corridor that leads to the engineer standing at the computer. Kill him, take his security card and try to use the machine. The container will explode and Riddick will say he needs to find a new one. Go back to where you came out of the vent and pass through the nearby door. Run through this section shooting the guard as you go - the sentry guns will kill you if you hang around so keep on the move. Shoot the guard in the next room and kill him. Find the ventilation hatch and follow this path until you can get back into the lower mines. Make your way to the gas room and plat the bomb. On leaving, a riot guard will capture you.

== Creature Nest ==

After the cutscene you'll end up in the creature's nest. Out of the two guards near you, one will walk off and the other will stand guard. Approach the guard standing near you and he'll attempt you hit you, reverse his attack and Riddick will kill the guard. Exit the container and find the second guard. A cutscene will play showing the guard getting killed by a create. After this has finished playing, drop into the hole where the creature appeared from.

Pick up the shotgun and the two grenades near the dead bodies and walk out of the cave. A large creature will jump from a bridge in the distance to where you are, run back into the cave, wait for the creature to appear near the door and throw a grenade at it. You have two chances but one grenade should kill it. Walk onto the platform and head into the door at the other side. Follow this path, climbing up the stacked crates and over the wall. Small creates will attack you whilst down here and they're pretty fast so keep and eye out for them - one shotgun blast will kill them. Over the wall you'll find a security door which can't be opened yet. Walk down the corridor and more creatures will attack. Kill them all and continue on your path. You'll end up in another large room. You'll see one of the small creatures standing on a crate, shoot it and walk over to the crate. You'll find a vent tool which you can use on the nearby vent hatch.

Pass through the vent and into two large adjoined rooms. Once has a control panel (which you should leave as it causes more creates to appear) and the other has a large drill which requires a battery. Walk through the doorway behind the drill and out to where a bridge has collapsed. Next to the bridge is a shotgun and the key for the security room door you found. Since you can't go back through the hatch you'll have to climb onto the right hand side of the bridge where you should be able to jump across onto the second ledge.
You'll end up in the large room leading up to the security door again. Climb the crates and use the key on the door. Inside, you'll see a battery charger, a panel, more grenades and a door leading to a new area. You need to turn the power to the room on before you can use the charger so use the panel. This will cause more small creatures to appear so shoot them all. After they're dead, pass through the door. Follow the path through the door and you'll eventually come to a weapons storage room. Pick up the grenades, the shotguns and the battery and head back to the recharger room. Place the battery in the recharger and wait for it to charge. You'll have to fight more creatures here, after they're dead the battery will have recharged. Pick the battery up and head out of the recharger room through the security door. Make your way back to the vent where you fell into the room with the drill. Once you fall out of the vent, a large creature will smash through the wall behind you. Throw a grenade at it to kill it. Walk over to the drill and place the battery in it then 'use' it. It will start up and smash through the door at the opposite end of the room opening access to the central storage section.


== Central Storage ==

As soon as you walk in you'll see a guard fighting creates. Ignore them and head forwards through the door. You'll come across a riot guard fighting a large create. Once it's killed, walk through the door at the bottom. You'll come across a small corridor where a riot guard is firing at creatures through a hole in the wall. Throw a grenade behind him and move back. The grenade should take him out, walk over to his dead body and pick up the Mini gun he drops then walk through the door at the other end of the room where you'll appear in on the cargo elevator.


== Cargo Elevators ==

Kill all of the guards guarding the first elevator, some will be standing on platforms above you put the spray from the Mini gun should get then. Use the elevator to access the next floor. As you head upwards, some creatures may appear so take them out with the Mini gun. When the elevator gates open on the next floor, take out the riot guards and the regular guards. Follow this path and you'll come across more guards hiding in a small room. Take them out and use the health station they were guarding to increase your health. Walk into the next elevator room and will the guards standing in there. Take the elevator up to the next floor. Take any of the riot guards on this floor out as well as the regular guards who patrol the area. Find the button that opens a door into the next section and you'll come across a heavy guard.


== Heavy Guard ==

Walk out of the room with the Mini gun, then drop it (this is so you can get it later) then use the pillars for cover. The idea is that you run to the other side of the room leaving the slow moving Heavy Guard under a fuel tank which you're supposed to shoot making it land on the guard. Use the four pillars in the room for cover and encircle the Heavy Guard trying to keep it at the opposite side of the room. Once you notice a fuel tank passing over the Heavy Guard, shoot it so that it falls and explodes on, or at least near, the Heavy Guard. Repeat this process shooting several of the fuel tanks onto the Guard and it will eventually explode. Pick the Mini gun you dropped up and continue through to the next section, the docking bay.


== Docking Bay ==

Out on the bay, you'll come across two riot guards. Use the nearby crates for cover and take them out with the Mini gun from a distance. Once they're both dead, walk over to the middle of the platform and look left. You'll see a spaceship with which you can make your escape but it's guarded by several regular guards. Zoom in to where they're standing and open fire with the Mini gun. They make try and make their way towards you but the close they get, the easier it is to kill them with the Mini gun so keep firing until all are dead. Next, head towards the spaceship and get on. Watch the cutscene.


== Cryo-Sleep ==

You'll wake up in a white, circular room with another inmate standing nearby. You can try to talk to him but he's too dazed so doesn't make any sense. After two minutes, you'll pass out and be placed back into your cryo-cell. This process will repeat for several days until Thursday when Riddick decides to escape in the other inmates cryo-cell. Walk over to it and you'll now be able to use it. Watch the cutscene and you'll end up in a stack of cryo-cells.

== Cryo-Cells ==

When Riddick kicks out of the cell, you'll be on the floor of the room. Pick up the bar on the floor and climb one of the pyramids. You'll see several guards enter the room to try and k
