Introduction

This tutorial is all about how to get up and running on the PC game tropico. It covers the basics of getting your Tropical Island into a society that is happy and profitable. The tutorial centralises itself on allowing you to start making money easily at the beggining of the game, whilst allowing you to rule the island in your own style.

Starting Off
================================================
When you start on your island you will begin with a dock, a teamsters office, four farms, a construction office and your own presidential palace. Your people will be living in a shanty town and will generally be unemployed and as the case is unhappy. You should begin by selecting two of your farms and turning them into tobacco plantations - over the years this will provide your main source of income, and the two other farms will be corn farms that will supply your population with food (whilst generating a small amount of profit).
After turning two of your farms into tobacco plantations - you will need to start building houses for your people, build them the mid-range houses that can hold two people, and charge them no rent (this increases happiness). After you have built as many houses as your budget allows - start building roads with the left over money. Over the next year your builders will start constructing the houses and roads - and you will have to turn the game speed upto its highest and wait for the new year to come.
At the end of the first year you will receive money in a form of a tribute from either Russia or the USA, depending on what characteristics you chose for your player. With this money build another construction office and some more houses and roads, then wait for the next year.
In the second year you will receive more money from either Russia or the USA, build a Diplomatic Relation Building and then choose your countries values. You can either select Pro-Russian values or Pro-USA values - select the values of the country that has given you money at the end of the year and also allow that country to build a military base on your island.
In the third year your tobacco plantations will start making you a lot of money, you will now have enough money to build luxuries for your people. Build them a church, a Bar and a High School. Employ a teacher and a priest from over-seas so that your population can use the facilities. So that your people can use the school properly, select the edict that allows older members of your population to be educated to read and write - this will allow people to take up better and more meaningful jobs in your tropical paradise.
You should start having a steady stream of income, but you still need more money so you should build a Logging Camp by a dense forest area so that your tree's can be turned into something more useful and create money for your island. Build a hotel and capitalise on the success of the tourism business.
By now you will be ready to increase the growth of your island by keeping your people happy and investing your money in different profit making organisations.
