Retro Game Walkthroughs for Syphon Filter 2 (PlayStation 2)

Anyone who owns this game will know its all about replay, learning the missions, gaining new weapons then coming back to smash par times. I’d also guess that 50% of you have great difficulty with ‘Murakawa Tower - Tokyo’, simply because it’s a long level with the most objectives in the game. Well allow me to explain, step by step, how to beat that par time and complete all objectives. But first, you’ll never do it without the right weapons: -

Weapons Loadout:
SIDEARM: Mark 23 or Jericho (Your most powerful handgun)
PRIMARY: C8 (otherwise, a strong rapid gun)
AUXILARY: Something with lots of bullets and a high damage rate
GREANADE: Right, uncommon I know, but take the smoke grenades.
OTHER: EDPT or something, it doesn’t matter, you wont be using it.

When the mission begins everything is a bit hectic, your chopper has been shot down in the streets and you need to provide covering fire for it. Simple enough just circle the chopper killing everyone using your C8 rifle. If at any point you feel overwhelmed by all the enemies simply let fly with a smoke grenade, now neither you nor they will be able to use the auto lock facility, meaning manually aiming you can pop them off like sitting ducks. When the repairs are complete the chopper will take off, you are now free to head down the only available street (on the right of where you spawned). No sooner than you start running will the first of Murakawa’s Yakuza officers charge at you, calmly stand still and shoot him in the head before he gets close enough to do any damage. When he’d dead, head down the street he came from. As soon as you hear tyres screeching you need to stand completely still. A black minivan will come around the corner, slide on the wet floor and hit a lamppost, now you need to up your manual aim and aim for the backdoors, when they open, fire on the yakuza officer inside. After you killed him head further down this street, keeping your eyes on the platform running over the street. As you get closer, a yakuza officer will pop up on here; use your scope to quickly take his head off. You should get a message saying “That was the last officer on the streets, the rest are inside” now you need to head for the car park across the street making sure you keep rolling to avoid sniper fire. Once you get to the gates, throw the switch and descend into the car park.

Once inside the car park you need to act quick, the second you reach the bottom of the map, equip your auxiliary weapon and unleash hell (Stolen from Gladiator I know) on the car to your right. Jus keep shooting at the petrol tank until the car explodes killing Yon Jung Kim who was waiting behind it in ambush. Now move to the back left of the car park and go through the tunnel and out at the other end. Kill all the men in this area, and then move toward the well lit door on your right (there is a black minivan parked outside it) When you get in front of the door, stand back and aim about head high, after a few seconds the door will be kicked open and you just need to pull your trigger to get a quick headshot kill. Go through the doors and you are now on the stairwell, first head to the very bottom and kill the two men here, now you can hack the elevators by using the control panel they were inspecting. Once its cracked head up the stairwell, you want to keep passing all the doors until you reach the exploded part of the stairwell, then take the first door you come across, this will bring you out on the upper balcony of the reception, but you don’t have time to relax. The instant your out you need to take note of the man standing all the way around the other side of the balcony wearing a gataling gun. As soon as this thing hits you you will die, but the catch is it takes 2 seconds to warm up and you can hear it spin, so if you hear it then head behind the nearest bollard quickly. Now this is where those smokes come in handy, lob a couple around so he can’t lock onto you then head anticlockwise toward him, making sure to hide if you hear the gun warming up, once you get very close, throw two smoke grenades and charge out with your fastest gun and blast him in the gut, after two clips he should go down, now take the elevator control switch from him and head down the stairs into the central lobby. Behind the counter are two electronic shutters, the one on the left has jammed half way down, so roll underneath it and head for the elevator. When you get in, skip floor one and press floor two.

Once on floor two, you will notice all the lights are out and its on fire, switch in your flashlight and run to the left, standing by the filing cabinet will be a yakuza officer, dispense of him, then check the cabinet, if it has a tape in it, take it, if it doesn’t then don’t worry. Now its time to leave this floor and head up to three.

Three is very quick, sneak out of the elevator and shoot the Yakuza in the gents taking a whiz, now return into the elevator. Up to four.

Four is indeed a busy floor, two Yakuza to kill here, so jus run around like a lunatic, shoot anything that moves until you have then killed them both, now instead of returning to the elevator, charge to the back (opposite of the elevator and to the left) and you will see a janitors cupboard, go into it and up into the air vent and crawl around and upward, when you see a light at the end, switch off your flashlight or you’ll blow your stealth. When you get out of the air vent, charge toward the big white glass booth, the aim of the game is to get there before the nearby guard, and kill him before he can hit the alarm. Once this is done enter the booth and unlock the elevators, then go to them and go up to floor six.

Read this paragraph carefully before leaving the elevator as this can be very frustrating. When the doors open, stay crouched, a guard will pass from left to right, follow him, stay behind him, as soon as he goes to turn around (and not a moment before) kill him and charge to the terminal in front of you and upload the data, about two seconds after you are done an alarm will go off, this is the man on the other side of the room, but since you’ve uploaded the data already it makes no odds, so kill him and switch the alarm off. Now return to the elevator and go up to eight.

When you exit, two guards will be chatting behind the desk, using the element of surprise, bring there lives to an abrupt end, hit the switch behind the counter and go through the door you’ve unlocked. Once inside, head over to the dead guy at his desk (if the video tape wasn’t in the filing cabinet on floor two then its on the bookshelf in here) otherwise just go to the desk and press the security button under it. As secret door will open and security will rush in, kill them, and then head out the secret door and onto the roof. On the roof, jus charge around the helipad and make your way toward the large silver elevator, this only has one option, “down” go down and your in the secret lab. Kill the two men guarding the airlock and put on a hazmat suit. If you blow this part, you won’t get the hidden objective. Go through the airlock and stay ducked. On your immediate right there is a room with a man who has his back to you, sneak into there room with him and kill him (if he hears you coming he will seal the room and there’s no way in. once he’s dead take the Omega strain sample and start planting C4 around the lab. You need to plant 2 charges, one at each desk, and then leave back through the airlock, plating a final C4 charge on the containers by the elevator, and go back up to the roof, now head onto the Helipad and killing everyone. Eventually it will say extraction zone clear and your chopper will land, now defend it for about 30 seconds and you’ll get mission complete. If you did everything like I said, you’ll be about 2 minutes under par.

If your ever online, look out for me, I’m called “El Pinko” and I’m happy to help any gamers. Mostly this game is about practice and teamwork, a refreshing break from SOCOM I feel. I hope this has helped, thanks for reading.
