COMMANDOS : BEHIND ENEMY LINES
LEVEL 1 : In this first level your mission is to destroy the communication post on the N/W side of the island.
At your disposal you are able to control Green Beret, the Marine and the Driver. As I have completed the game I would advise you in this mission to not attack heavily, but with precision and stealth, as many of the patrolling Germans carry Machine Guns. You will find Green Beret in the very south of the island, the Marine on the eastern coast, and the Driver hiding behind a jeep.
First of all I would get Green Beret ( who has a dagger, pistol, a decoy and he also has the ability to hide himself in snow ) and move him behind some of the ruins. You will see a man patrolling, so the best thing to do is to put down a decoy a little away from where you are standing and the man should here it, causing him to run over to it. When he has his back turned, distracted by the decoy, it would be a good idea to knife him. DO NOT shoot him because this will alert the other guards. Move his body by clicking on the hand in the bottom-right hand corner of the inventory ( or by pressing the hotkey h) and then click on the body. Green Beret will now have the corpse over his shoulders, so move him over the screen to a concealed place and dump the body there, out of sight. To do that just right click on Green Beret. Now go and pick up your decoy and quickly run over to the wall, out of the other patrols sight. If you are not sure what the patrol can see, then click on the eye on the screen, and drag it over and land it on a man. Now the screen will be covered with a green area, depending on where the German is looking, and that represents his sight. The light green area is what he has a perfect view of and the dark green where he does not. Now you know what the German can see, I would tell Green Beret to climb over the wall ( by moving the cursor over the wall and clicking on it ) and then move him well behind the house so the patrol will not see you. Only do this when the patrol turn their backs and remember to move accordingly and try to not walk over snow, because the patrol may seek you out by following your footsteps. If that does happen the best thing to do is to quickly sprint ( right-clicking on the screen ) over to some fresh snow and camouflage him. You can do this by clicking on the spade, in the bottom left hand side of the tool bar, and Green Beret will start to dig himself into the snow, which will properly take about 3-5 seconds. To get him back out again, just right-click on him and then I would hide him in the house, making sure the patrol doesn't see you. Then to get him inside the house, simply left click on the door.
I would now leave Green Beret there concealed, and move your attention to the Driver. The Driver is armed a sub-machine gun, pistol and a health pack. It is not a very good idea to take the patrol on with him, as it is 2 vs 1 so I would suggest that you should quickly climb into the jeep, and remain there until the patrol start to come back again. Then I would run over them in the jeep, so they don't have much of a chance to get back or survive ! Now that part of the island is in your control, I would start to focus on using the Marine. The Marine is armed with a harpoon, dagger, pistol, portable dinghy and he is able to swim. So with him I would take out the one man patrolling along the coast, with the use of the harpoon. But to take out the other Germans is a bit harder. The way I would go about it would be to cause a distraction. This can either be made by using Green Berets decoy or by simply hiding and then shooting. They should hear this and run over to where the shots came from. So hide behind a rock and shoot (the Germans should come over) and keep on shooting and the men shall run straight into your line of fire ! Now the only men left on this mission are the soldiers who are guarding the communication post, which is on another island. To get there you will need to use Marine, and his useful dinghy. Order the Marine to go over to the water edge, in the shallows, and two new buttons will appear on the interface. The button that looks like diving gear is to dress the Marine in a diving suit, enabling him to swim. The other button is for the Marine to get out his dinghy ( which somehow folds into his rucksack ? ) and automatically the dinghy will go onto the water. Get Marine into it, because he is the only one who can steer it, get him in the boat by double clicking, and move the boat over to the island where Green Beret and the Driver are. Get them in it, by double clicking, and tell the Marine to steer it over to the N/W island, where the communication post is.
Disband them at the bottom of the island making sure you are not spotted, do this by clicking on a soldier and then press the button with his face on, and hide them behind a house. If you wont to select the group of them, just left click and drag. Now if you move further up, you will see that there is a 3 man patrol ( armed with sub - machine guns ) who patrol the whole island. ( It will be a good idea to save the game at this point, by pressing ESC and then press on save, just incase anything should go wrong ! ) You will also see that there is a general, controlling a mounted machine gun, which could be a great danger to you. But the best way to take out the patrol is by using Green Berets decoy again.
Set the decoy up so that when the Germans go ver to it, they will be facing away from you. When you have turned the decoy on, and they have gone over to it, it is now a good idea to go and knife the General. When you have done that it would be a good idea to hide his body, so the Germans do not see it, so the best place to put him would be down a barrel. (Pick the body up, move over to a barrel, and then right click)
The Germans will still be looking at the decoy ( puzzled by it, not in love!) so it would now be a good idea to get the Driver on the machine gun. Then get Green Beret to move a gun powder barrel over to where the patrol is by right clicking on a barrel, and right clicking again to release it. Then get the Driver to shoot the barrel, which will kill the patrol instantly ( ha ha ). Now all you have to do is to destroy the communication post, which can be done however you like. ( Shooting it with the machine gun is easiest!!!!)
