TOCA RACE DRIVER GUIDE
By The Gamer (c) 2002

INTRODUCTION:
*************

The first thing you will do in TOCA career mode; is to take an offer to test drive for ABG Motorsport, driving a Lexus 15200 at Brands Hatch Indy, you need to do a lap within 1.20 secs and this is very easy, as long as you stay on the track you will pass the test drive easily, so take your time, no need to drive like a maniac.

Once you pass, (and you will get four more goes if you don't pass
first attempt) you will be signed up for a season to race in the
TOCA Tour championship.
Before we move onto the championships lets take a look at what
the game consists of:

INFO:
*****

* A championship will consist of 6 races except for the LOLA World Championship which has 7 races.

* One race per championship will have pit stops.

* Team offers for the same championships can vary.

* Each team will offer you a cash bonus incentive that you can try to achieve, this will help bump up your earnings, because you will need $8,000,000 later in the career mode to enter the Elite class A & B Championships.

* If you should fail a test drive and use up all your chances you can still race in the championship but with a lesser team.

* At the end of each championship, if you finish in the top 3 rankings a rival from that championship will call you on the phone and challenge you to a 1 lap race, where you can win their car if you beat them, you will get unlimited goes at this, and this is how you win the 11 bonus cars in the game that you will use to race in the Elite Championships later in the game.

* The game will let you save after every 2 races.

* PIT STOPS, you must make a pit if the race has pit stops within the pit window, (after the first lap or before the last lap) or you will be disqualified, you can repair damage at a pitstop, choose whether you want to repair the bare minium, the entire work needed, or anything inbetween by pressing your left and right arrows on you gamepad to move the slider bar for the damage.

* Car Setups, you can set up your car before a race with changes to the gearing, downforce, suspension, anti roll, tyres and brake bias, and you will get an audio briefing about what kind of setup you need, but to be honest the setups don't make that much difference and its perfectly easy to win every championship without touching the setups, as the cars are setup well for the tracks anyway.

* When the championship is over, if you finished in the top 3 you will be challenged by a rival:
To respond to the challenge you need to go to the World map on the wall in Ryan's room, and then you will see a map of the world and all the cars you can challenge for.

* A good tactic in beating rivals in head to heads when you are finding them hard going, is to nudge them off the track, this works very well indeed.

* After that you will head back to your email and see what offers you got after your first season, you can race in the Toca Tour again if you want to, but presumably you will want to try one of the other championships and the opportunity to unlock a different car at the end of it.

* It usually takes about 4 of the 6 championships to accumalate enough points to move onto the Power Racing Tier, but don't worry, the other championships you didn't enter will still be able to be raced later on in the game.

* If you win 3 races and get 3 second places you will definetely win a championship, but generally anywhere from 30 to 45 pts will win a Championship, incidentally the Elite class tends to be the hardest.

* Occasionally you will find there's a SINGLE DAY EVENT on offer, and you can race this to rack up some more points towards your total, there are no bonus cars for winning a single day event. These will pop up occasionally in the game in the first two tiers, they can be random, and you don't get more than one or two if your doing well in the championships.

* Do use the test option to practice the track with your current car before a race, even when your used to the track, using a different car from when you last raced the track, will mean you need to work out your new braking points to suit the speed, handling, brakes and grip of the current car in the championship.

* To Progress through the games championships you need to achieve the following:

1. SUPER SPORTS TIER - 132 pts accumalated in any championships or single day events you enter

2. POWER RACING TIER - 162 pts accumalated in any championships or single day events you enter

3. LOLA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP - no points tally needed, you simply have to win the championship

4. ELITE CLASS A & B - Once you have won the LOLA and have 8
million in cash then you can enter this class with any bonus cars in your garage that you have won off rivals throughout the game, there are 11 cars in total you can win. some will be categorised B and the some A, the more powerful cars will be A class, they are raced in their respective power bands.

* Try the Koeneg C62 in the Elite class A championship to enhance your chances, as it offers a great blend of handling, speed and braking over the others, and is certainly my pick of the bunch.

After the Elite class has been won in either class you will get the last FMV of the game, and the story mode is basically over, you can race again and win the other elite class but winning that will not bring another FMV for your victory.
Now the career story mode is over you can race again in any championship you choose, there will be new offers from teams in
your email, but the difficulty level still seems to be the same as before in the past championships, which by this time should be too easy for you.
It is reccomended to head on to the Free Race mode:

FREE RACE MODE
***************
Not all the championships and tracks will be unlocked at the
start of the game, but once you have played up to the LOLA World
Championship in the career mode they will all be unlocked.
You can play any of the championships you did in the career mode,
except the Elite championships, although it is possible to recreate them using a custom championship option in the Freestyle mode.

You can also create custom championships for all the championships of up to 7 races, but you can only choose from the
tracks available to that type of championship, and the cars that are available to that type of championship, you can also edit the following for your custom race:

LAPS: 1- 60
CONDITIONS: very hot, sunny, drizzle, rain or storm
PIT STOPS: you can choose a pit stop if the race is 5 laps or more
DIFFICULTY: 50% - 110%
OPPONENTS: you can choose to race your own choice of opponents
just as long as they are within the current set championship.

FREESYLE:
*********
Freestyle gives you even more flexibility as you can now choose
any kind of car to race on any of the tracks, you can race any of the tracks listed in Freestyle, but please note; not all the tracks in the game are available in freestyle, there are only 27 to choose from, which is a bit of a shame.
OPPONENTS: you can choose to race any opponents 'outside' the
class and usual championship of your car.

TIME TRIAL MODE
****************
All the same options as in Free race but without the
championships or opponents, obviously.
Use time trial to hone your skills on a specific track with a specific car, this can be a good place to practice before you begin career mode, or a custom championship in Free Race, but do realise you will only have the default cars available until you have unlocked the rest in career mode.

MULTIPLAYER
*************
Race up to 3 friends here, all the options are available here as there are in Free Race, except the only opponents will be your friends taking part in the muliplayer, there are no AI drivers, and no pit stops are available.
Also note there are only 3 views, behind the car, bumper view, and a lower bumper view, bonnet and cockpit are not available.

Thanks for reading, and enjoy the game!
