Retro Game Walkthroughs for Mafia (PC Games)
Submitted By: Bejam
Welcome back to the 1930’s with Mafia on the P.C.
During your life of crime you’ll be involved with many a heinous
act, including collecting 'protection' money, various mob hits,
car chases, bank robberies, bootlegging, assassinations,
shoot-outs, races and many more.
Mafia consists of around 20 main chapters, each of them having
differing objectives and are all connected to each other via the
unfolding story.

Stealing cars:
Unlike in GTA3, you can steal a particular type of vehicle only
after Ralph or Lucas Bertone has taught you how. As the game
progresses you’ll gradually get access to more and more cars.

Police:
In the game, you'll encounter two types of police:
Patrol Cars & On foot, and there are two types of punishments,
whether:

1. You get fined - There’s a notebook icon in top centre of
screen.
2. You get arrested – There’s a handcuffs icon in top centre of
screen.
There's also another icon, the Gun icon and it’s displayed when
you're in a gunfight with the police or if the police see you
carrying a weapon in public. The police will then consider you
armed and dangerous, and will resort to using deadly tactics i.e.
shooting at you.

Many offences will only get noticed if there's a police patrol
within sight of you.

You'll get a fine for:
Driving through red lights.
Crashing into someone's car (light damage).
Crashing into someone and slightly hurting them.
Speeding over 40 Mph (use the speed limiter to avoid this).

You'll get arrested for:
Running/driving away from the police with the "fine icon" on
screen.
Carrying a weapon in public.
Shoot / crash into on foot police or police car.
Crashing into someone's car (heavy damage).
Crashing into someone and killing them.
Excessive speeding and not stopping.
Attacking pedestrians.

If you get a fine icon and you stop, the police will issue you
with the fine. However, if you get three fines in a mission,
you’ll be arrested.

If you get a handcuffs icon and you get arrested and the mission
you're in will be failed. So it’s always best to stop while the
fine icon is still displayed, pay the fine and be on your merry
way.

Hints:

When you’re in a shootout, try to find cover, cause remember, a
sitting duck is a dead duck.

Watch your ammo and make sure to hide when reloading, as you
could be stuck in the middle of a gun battle with only 1 bullet
left in the clip and need to reload, giving the enemy lots of
time to send bullets your way.

Remember that when you reload, any unused bullets in the
discarded clip will be lost.

Remember to search dead enemies for guns and ammo.

Hide your weapons when walking around on the streets, as if the
police see you carrying a gun, they won’t be pleased.

Along with dogs, the map & radar are a man’s best friend. When
speeding around in your vehicle, always keep an eye on the radar
to see if there are any pesky police around (police cars appear
as blue dots on the radar).

Also, some missions require you to get to locations in strict
time limits, so always keep the map button assigned to an easy to
reach button, and use it often to check you are driving in the
right direction and are taking the right/quickest route.

You can shoot out car tyres to help you escape from pursuers,
plus if you have a strong enough gun, you can shoot at the car
radiators/fuel tanks to blow the cars to smithereens.

Use the speed limiter often, as it will help you stick to the
speed limit and avoid any unwanted police attention. At night,
there doesn’t seem to be as many police patrol cars, so you don’t
need to use the speed limiter as often.

CONTROLS & TUTORIAL:
----------------------------------

You should take time out to configure all the controls to the way
you like them. Different people prefer different methods of
control, so find the best for you, and when you are satisfied you
can then move on to the tutorial mode.

The first time you play Mafia it is advisable to begin by playing
through the mini tutorial mode first.

This tutorial mode gives a simple intro into the game, showing
how you pick up weapons, use weapons, discard weapons, drive the
car, shoot out of the car etc.

If you aren’t happy with your control set-up, then this gives you
a good opportunity to tweak the controls before you get into the
game proper.

------------------------
WALKTHROUGH
------------------------

Once you’ve completed the tutorial and are confident of your
abilities, it’s time to enter the world of Mafia.

CHAPTER 1:
"An offer you can't refuse"

After the introduction scene, we see the sequence in the café
where Tommy is recounting his story to Norman the police
detective.

As his story starts, Tommy describes how he was having a normal
night in his taxi when all of a sudden, mobsters hijacked him.
You are forced to aid in their escape by driving them to safety
away from the rival gang, and it is from this point that the game
begins.

Straight into the action! (Unless you have a monster PC, you’ll
notice that when you start off there is quite a bit of slowdown,
this is mainly due to all the lighting effects that your PC is
trying to shift. Most missions are set during the day and the
game runs better in the daytime, but if you are suffering from
extreme “Jerkyness”, then tweak the graphical setting i.e. the
shadow details)

You are controlling a Taxi. It’s not the fastest hunk of junk in
the world, so outrunning your pursuers by going straight is
difficult, so you must dodge and weave around to avoid them.
This is quite a tricky opening as too many crashes will kill you,
and the baddies can (and do) shoot out of their car, often
killing your passengers.

One thing to try is if you find some kind of streetlight/lamppost
or traffic light, you can be sneaky by forcing them to crash into
one of the roadside objects or maybe some oncoming traffic by
nudging them.

When you manage to escape from the baddies, you must head to
Salieri’s Bar. You can follow the compass, but it’s easier to
regularly check your map.

*Note* the location you are heading to in a mission is always
marked with a blue “X”.

CHAPTER 2:
"The Running Man"

A simple section here, as you just work as a taxi driver carrying
passengers to their destinations. When you pick up a passenger
they will tell you their destination and you have a time limit
with which to get there in (though the time limits aren’t too
tough). It is advisable that you activate your Speed Limiter and
adhere to general traffic rules (i.e. don’t run people over!) to
avoid any unwanted attentions from the fuzz.

After three or four passengers have been satisfied, a cutscene
will start, seeing you being attacked by the mobsters you escaped
from in the previous mission.

You will then have to escape from the baddies on foot through
some narrow back streets (hence the name "The Running Man").
Green arrows will point the way to go, and it’s just a simple
case of navigating your way around these alleys and trying not to
get shot.

CHAPTER 3:
"Molotov Party"

Your now one of the mafia!
You’ll be introduced to some of the mafia characters and must
then get a weapon from Vincenzo (up the outside stairs near the
back exit to Salieri’s), and then get a car from the stammering
greasemonkey Ralph.

Having got the car, drive to Morello's area and park beside his
garage.
You should be able to enter the garage yard from a small alley at
the side. Open the small gate and whack the guard at the main
gate with your brand spankin’ new baseball bat (hold down the
attack button to charge the attack then hit him).

Once the guard is sleeping, damage two of the cars with the bat,
and blow the other one with a Molotov cocktail (be careful not to
get to close or you’ll end up a BBQ).

Once you’ve done enough damage to the motors, check the small
wooden shed to get another new car. Get in it and drive it back
to Salieri’s. Your accomplice will drive your other car back.
Occasionally in this mission, whilst in the process of trashing
the cars, three or four goons came into the yard to get me. This
might happen if you take too long smashing the cars?

Once, unbeknownst to me, I had smashed the cars and drove back
home, but the baddies followed me all the way there and killed me
when I got to Salieri’s!

CHAPTER 4:
"Ordinary Routine"

We all know how the Mafia love to collect protection money; well
this mission sees you collecting protection money from those
protected by the Salieri’s.

The Bank and the Restaurant should be easy, as you arrive at the
drop off point, collect the money and then drive off. The last
location is the Gas Station...

After the cutscene, go to the left side of the house and kill the
dog there if it gives you any grief or agro. You don’t need to
kill the vicious mutt, it all depends on how humanitarian you are
feeling :D (I hate dogs, so I took great pleasure in taking him
out).

Some boxes arranged at the back of the house for just any old
someone to climb up, and guess what? You are that someone.
Press "JUMP" to climb the boxes and get inside the house, and
when you get inside, turn right and open the door to reveal a
small toilet with a guy “relieving himself” in there.

Shoot him before he shoots you and then prepare for a three men
assault from the stairs along the corridor. Hide behind the door
or enter a room and kill them one by one. There are two
accessible rooms at the second floor, one has the Tommy gun on
the bed and the other room has a medicine kit on the bathroom if
you need it (Its a yellow box with a red cross on it).

Head carefully down the stairs, at the room with billiard tables
there's 3 men, one at the left behind the bar armed with the
Tommy Gun, the other two are equipped with handguns. Finish off
the handgun duo first, and then take out the Tommy gun guy.
After killing all three you should see a big old man with white
clothes, kill him too or he will punch you.

Enter the room to see Sam, but after you got out prepare for a
gunfight with the big man with white clothes. This should be easy
considering you still have the Tommy gun armed.

After taking him out, another cutscene will occur, with another
baddie running off with the money, but you can’t let him escape,
so must follow him.

* The Chase *

As soon as you start, just run quickly to your car and do your
best to tail him.

Make sure your speed limiter isn’t on, and then burn rubber!
You can try to shoot him from inside your car, or try to bash him
so he crashes into another car. Sometimes when he crashes he gets
out of the car, so you have an easy chance to take him out.

*Note* I have heard that before you enter the house, you could
shoot the tires of the yellow car so when you chase him later
he'll be a lot slower.

CHAPTER 5:
"Fairplay"

Stealing cars. No, it’s not GTA3, this time Salieri wants you to
steal a brand new fast racing car so the car won't win at the
race tomorrow.

Go to the place marked at the map (it’s at the edge of the town,
there's a sign marked “Lost Heaven Racing Arena”, so you should
be able to find it easily). After you get there, talk to the
guard and he'll open the gate for you.

Go to the garage and take the racing car. As the mechanic warns
you, it is VERY fast so be careful not to go too fast or you
might crash it.

When you're driving it in the city, remember to watch the radar
screen for police because they'll chase you as soon as they see
you. And DO NOT DAMAGE the car by bumping into someone /
something.

Go to Lucas Bertone's and wait for him to “adjust it”. After he's
finished, just drive back and put the car to where it was at the
racetrack garage.

* The Race *

The driver that Salieri is betting on in the race has
mysteriously broken his arm and so he won't be driving in the
race, so guess who'll drive? Yep, you guessed it…YOU!

There's not really any definite tips or strategy to pass this
race, and although I’ve heard lots of people having problems with
it, I came first on only my fourth or fifth try (*smug look*).
It's quite out of place in an action game of this type, overly
long, and very unforgiving, but it has to be conquered.

There’s no definite guide to winning the race, it’s just a matter
of having a great race with no slip-ups.

On of the most important things to work on is your start. The
race begins exactly the same way every time you try it, and there
is a way that you should start the race to increase your chances
of victory. When the race starts, move right or left so that you
will pass the stalled racer on the start line and avoid all of
the racers in front and beside you until you get to the first
corner with two cars ahead of you.

Red and white cars always pull out from the pack and will reach
the turn first, but you can catch them as they slow to make the
turn. If you’re feeling like Dick Dastardly in Wacky Races you
could try and hit the red car and cause it to spinout or crash,
without losing control of your car. If you’re still behind then
just keep racing well and you’ll eventually overtake them on the
longer straights.

Getting through the course five times without crashing is pretty
tough. The first thing to keep in mind is that you should not try
to race with the accelerator pressed down the entire time, be
patient as it’s better to slow down a little than to slide and
lose the race. Start slowing down before you reach a turn by
releasing the accelerator. For the tighter turns, also tap the
brake slightly as you approach the turn. Begin the turn by
coasting through it, and then begin applying the gas when you are
about 2/3 of the way through the turn. If the tires start to
skid, release the gas for a second or two. As you complete the
turn, keep the gas down and accelerate into the turn and pick up
speed on the straight.

Steering, especially in the turns, is something that should be
done carefully, as it’s quite twitchy. Over-steering is an easy
way to lose control of your car. When steering, adjust your car's
direction by tapping the left and right keys, not by holding them
down.

Concentrate like Yoda because the race consists of 5 laps and you
cannot save during the race if you screw up that you must do the
race all over again

It is tough, but as the old saying goes, “if at first you don’t
succeed, try again…and again and again and again…”

CHAPTER 6:
"Sarah"

Luigi asks you to accompany and protect Sarah on her way home,
because the night before, some punks were messing with her.
This is a very simple mission; when you get to the hoods, just
punch them with a fully charged whack, strafing around whilst
hitting them and get some dropped weapons. You don't even need to
kill them; you can just bash them until they run off crying.
Make sure you keep an eye on Sarah's and your health.
There’s about 7 or 8 punks to take care of in total, and after
knocking everybody off, escort her to the house.

CHAPTER 7:
"Better Get Used To It"

Tommy and Paulie report the punk behaviour to Don Salieri, and
the Don thinks they should be sorted out…bigtime!
Go to Vincenzo's for some weapons (bat and handgun) and drive off
to see Big Biff for information.

When you reach the used Service Station, kick down the reddish
coloured door, and you'll encounter some melee fights (use the
bat NOT the gun).

The first guy is easy to take down if you get behind him and hit
him with a fully charged hit, but then you’ll walk down the alley
and you’ll be outnumbered so it’s quite tough. Just keep circling
and strafing around whilst hitting them.
Keep an eye on Paulie's health because it seems that he has no
fear of dealing with all the baddies at the same time, but he can
get pretty beat up.

If you manage to keep Paulie (and yourself) alive, carry on to
another area where you’ll see the civilian who ran away from the
punks. Continue on up the stairs and then drop down onto the
bins.

There are baddies around this area, but DO NOT SHOOT before they
shoot at you will fail the mission. This section is quite tricky
as there’s about 5 or 6 gun-toting guys around, but after you
take care of them, there’ll be another cutscene.

* The Chase *
Quickly go to your car and start to drive as fast as you can,
make sure you don't lose them and after some time they will crash
into a wall.

CHAPTER 8:
"The Whore"

Getting to the hotel is simple enough, and before you get in
there you should HIDE your weapon to avoid the obvious
suspicions. Look around the lavish hotel and admire the splendour
and talk to some sailors.

The first thing you should do is to find the woman who can’t keep
her mouth shut and bump her off. Go to the third floor and search
the rooms there, you should find her and see a cutscene.

After dealing with her, go to the ground floor and to the
restaurant. Close the door first and kill the man in black suit
first before you kill the Manager (the guy in white suit). Then
just wait in the room for the other bodyguards to stream in, and
simply take them out, taking their weapons if you need more
ammo.

Go behind the receptionist's desk and collect the key to the
manager's office on the top floor, and there’s a health box
behind the reception desk too.

Make your way up to the top floor, making sure you take out any
remaining henchmen.

Open the manager’s office door, but watch out for the guy hiding
inside. After you open the door quickly look to the right of the
door and kill him.

Move over to the desk and take the papers and you will set the
bomb automatically. Quickly run out of the office and a cutscene
will show the BOOM and you jumping out of the window “action
movie style”.

* The Rooftops *

Move to the right of the roof and jump onto a set of outdoor
metal stairs. Climb all the way to the top and then turn right,
run around the edge of the building and open the door and then
proceed up to another rooftop. Climb the walls and jump over the
buildings.

You should spot a policeman with a Springfield rifle waiting for
you, so shoot him from a distance and duck behind the walls for
cover.

From an elevated position, carefully kill the remaining police
who come out of the door and then watch out for the police hiding
on the rooftop of the building of which the police you killed
came out from.

When you’ve taken out all the cops, rearm yourself with their
weapons if you are running out of ammo, and then jump over to the
wooden staircase. Walk around until you see the church over the
road and the ladder on the floor and you’ll see a cutscene.

* The Priest *

Walk into the church roof and pickup the health medicine on your
way down the stairs if you need it (if you don’t need it, save it
for later).

You see another cutscene and then a gunfight will ensue.
Retreat back up the stairs and wait for a guy to come up. When he
does, kill him then proceed back down the stairs.
I found that if you run out the door, head right and then up the
little mini spiral staircase and take out the guy at the top,
you’ll be in quite a safe place.

Duck down and watch out for the man using Tommy gun from
upstairs, make sure you kill him.
Then just kill the baddies one-by-one from your elevated
position, ducking when you reload.

After you kill the first wave of hoods, there'll be a second wave
arrive equipped with shotguns. Be careful and just take them out
from your spiral staircase HQ.

When you manage to kill them all, watch the cutscene.
When the cutscene finishes, hide your gun and walk over to the
hearse parked outside the church. Your wanted level will be high,
so watch out for police on the radar and lay low until the wanted
level disappears.
Make your way back to Salieri’s.

CHAPTER 9:
"A Trip To The Country"

It’s the middle of the night and it’s raining. Salieri has
ordered you to go pick up some Canadian booze from a remote farm
on the outskirts of town and take it back to his warehouse.
After meeting with Paulie and watching another cutscene you
arrive at the farm. There seems to be no sign of people around,
so you have to go and check it out.

Go through the farm, admiring the brilliant stormy atmosphere and
amazing use of sound with the wind and rain, search for a truck
parked at the end.
The plan hasn’t gone right and all of a sudden a few unfriendly
hoods come out and start shooting at you with their pump action
shotguns.

Take out the first two with your shotgun, and then hide in one of
the small outhouses next to the van and wait for another baddie.
Take him out and then head back to the entrance to meet up with
Paulie. As you head back you’ll encounter more enemies coming out
of the well-lit multi-level barn next to the big red barn with
the grain silo. There’s about five baddies in here so be careful
and there’s a health kit if you need it by the bottom stairs.
As you approach your vans at the entrance you'll see another set
of hoods firing at the trucks, finish them off and then team up
with Paulie to go and find Sam together.

Go around the farm a bit, there's a few more hoods hiding inside
the small houses, so watch out for them opening the doors and
shooting at you. There are two small buildings with baddies, with
each building having two enemies inside.

If you didn’t already, take out the baddies in the well-lit open
barn. There’s some downstairs and one upstairs, plus there’s a
health kit by the stairs if you need it.
Paulie will then find a tool to open the locked Barn, where the
hoods are keeping Sam.

Ready your guns because after the doors open you'll encounter yet
another set of henchmen. Take them out and then go upstairs and
take out the remaining baddies.

You'll find Sam at the top floor of the barn, lying bleeding and
helpless. Paulie will go to get some help, but before he manages
to get to the barn some bent coppers arrive. Shoot them from the
top floor of the barn, but also watch out for some coming up the
stairs behind you.

After the gunfight, head down to see Paulie and you will help Sam
into the truck but the troubles not over yet!

* The Tommy Gun Attack*

You’re now in the back of the truck with a Tommy gun and plenty
of ammo.

One-by-one, three cars chase you from behind, trying to ram you
and shoot you. Try to shoot the drivers of each car, as when you
kill them the cars will crash, or you can aim for the radiators
to blow the cars up.
After plenty of shooting, you’ll finish this section.

A cutscene will show Sam being taken to a doctor, and you'll
dropped off back at the warehouse.

Bonus Section:

After completing certain missions, you can visit Lucas Bertone
for some side quests.

This time, you have to warn Lucas’s friend that the police are
coming for him.

You will have to drive pretty quickly get to his house in time
rather strict time limit.

After warning the guy, go back to Lucas and he'll teach you to
steal an Ulver Airstream Fordor down in Oakwood.
Go and steal the car and then go back to Salieri's Bar.

CHAPTER 10:
"Omerta"

Frank has been a naughty boy, and Salieri has ordered you to
rubout him before he hands over important account books to the
authorities.

Firstly you must go and collect information about Frank's
whereabouts from two informants. First go to Chinatown and then
the next place you are told to go.
After you get the information, go to the hut behind Lucas

Bertone's Service Station. Talk to the bald guy there a couple of
times and as he doesn’t seem to want to talk, punch him a few
times! It’s brutal, but it works, as he promptly spills the beans
as to Frank’s current location.

Make sure you are driving reasonably fast car, as after you go to
Oakwood and see a cutscene, you’ll have to follow Frank's car to
the airport.

The car you’re tailing is quite fast and is prone to drive quite
erratically, but if you’re good enough, you should be able to
keep it in your sights.

When you arrive at the airport, you must shoot the guys hiding in
the airport reception. I found that carefully shooting them one
by one from outside was better than just running in there like a
madman.

If you kill them all you'll see a cutscene of Frank running
deeper into the airport complex. Follow after him but watch out
for more enemies.

Go right and you'll se a large empty hangar. I found that when
you go near the hangar, a flatbed truck would drive over and
stop, and the driver would get out and try attacking me with a
crowbar. So simply kill him, nick his truck and then drive around
the empty hangar area and kill all the ruffians by crashing the
truck to them.

With this system you don't have to waste any bullets.

Drive around a bit more to find Frank at a parking area behind
the empty hangar, but be careful as there are a couple of guys
with Tommy Guns guarding him.

Run them over with your truck and then talk to Frank and he'll
ask you to find his family. Go to the building to the left side
of the carpark and kill two guys guarding the area. Watch out for
another one inside the building.

When you enter the building you'll see a woman and a girl, that's
Frank's family. Talk to them and then go talk to Frank again and
bring Frank to them. When you're asked to find the air tickets
you can find them back at the airport reception building (the
first building you entered). Go back and give the tickets to
Frank and see a cutscene.

Bonus Section:

This time Lucas would like to send a "message" to someone called
Big Stan at the Black Cats Bar near the Works Quarter.
Go there and talk to the big guy standing at the door and then
punch him a few times (but don't kill him) until he runs away
like a yellow bellied coward. After he runs go back to Lucas and
you'll learn how to steal a Thor 810 in Oak Hill.

When you get to the car, watch out for the guy standing near it
as he tries to stop you from stealing it using his gun. If you
are quick enough, you can simply run over to him when you see him
run at you, and blow him away. Remember to try and avoid any
police attention when doing this.
Steal the car and then go back to Salieri's Bar

CHAPTER 11:
"Visiting Rich People"

Salieri has ordered you to steal some important documents from a
mansion in Oak Hills. The owner of the house is away enjoying
himself at the theatre, but there is a heavy security presence.
Pick up Salvatore the safe cracker/locksmith on your way to Oak
Hills. Take the small gate at the side of the mansion grounds.
Ask Salvatore to pick the locks and you can then enter the
estate.

When in the grounds, go left to the statue and duck down beside
the hedge. When crouching, click the action button on Salvatore
to order him to wait for you. Arm yourself with the baseball bat,
stay ducked and wait for the guard to walk past you. Hit him with
a fully charged hit from the back and collect his weapon and the
key from him.

Walk round the hedge where the guard came from and then head
right and walk forward until you find a guard standing inside a
wooden gazebo. Hit him in the back too and collect his gun.
After you have immobilized these two guards, walk around to the
front of the mansion and watch out for the guard patrolling
there. Wait to for the guard to have his back to you and again,
quickly hit him on the back.

Go back to Salvatore and tell him to follow you.
Go to the mansion, through the door into the dining room. Watch
out for the maid who’s wandering around the house, if you meet
her, you can just knock her out from behind with the bat.

When you're inside the house, don’t switch on any of the light
switches as guards might see and come to get you.
The house is quite a maze, so I don’t remember the exact route,
but you should find the stairs to the second floor somewhere
through the left hand door in the dining room, so go up and then
explore around until you find a swanky looking study with a safe
near the window. Get Salvatore to open the safe, and after the
cutscene ends, grab the documents and go back downstairs.

Tell Salvatore to wait inside the room with the stairs. Go to the
dining room and get ready for any goons that may be headed your
way.

When I played there were about three baddies shooting at me
outside, so carefully take them out with whatever gun you have
and then go back and tell Salvatore to follow you.
Then just run back outside to the gate where you entered.
Drive Salvatore back to his house and then go back to Salieri to
end the mission.

CHAPTER 12:
"A Great Deal!"

More dodgy booze dealings now as Paulie has a deal with one
William (Bill for short) Gates from Kentucky who’s offered Paulie
a great deal.

You have to go and collect the whiskey from a big parking lot.
When you arrive at the parking lot, go to the top floor and
you’ll see the guys waiting to sell the whiskey.

BEFORE you approach the guys and trigger the cutscene, you will
see some cars parked around. Drive a couple of the cars to make a
barricade, thus closing off the ramp entrance to the top level.
This will hinder the progress of another baddie car that comes up
later.

Talk to the booze guys and after an all action firefight
cutscene, you’re thrust into a big shootout.
When the cutscene finishes, quickly crouch beside the car and
start shooting at the front radiators of the cars near the
baddies. Hopefully, if you’re a good enough shot, you’ll blow up
the gas tanks, killing many of the goons straight away, it should
save you some bullets and extra health for the next fight
downstairs. Then just pick off the remaining baddies with your
Tommy gun.

Remember to keep an eye on Sam and Paulie's health too.
After about a minute, another car will come up, but as you have
blocked the entrance, they get stuck, giving you a better
opportunity to shoot at their car, blowing them up.

Having fought off all the baddies on this level, collect any ammo
you may need and then go downstairs and kill the hoodlums floor
by floor, pay attention when you see two cars blocking your way
at the 2nd level as it’s tricky to get through, and if you take
the emergency stairs, some guys there have grenades and throw
them at you. One hit with a grenade and you’ll be deader than
tank tops.

If you need health at any time there are two health items, one in
the large fenced area near the top floor, and the other is right
near the entrance.

After you kill them all, go to the top level again and drive the
truck with the crates in the back to the bottom level. See a
cutscene and you'll have to drive the truck to the warehouse in
Hoboken.

When you get to drive the truck, just quickly drive away from the
baddies and avoid the baddie cars on the roads, but be careful
for the police, as if they give chase they are a lot faster than
you.

If you do manage to avoid to gangsters and the law, then drive to
the warehouse to finish the mission.

CHAPTER 13:
"Bon Appetite!"

Get to the restaurant, and after the cutscene immediately duck
behind the table and then creep out of the door behind you. Now
you are outside, slowly move towards the narrow alleyway and take
out the Tommy gun toting guy at the end of the alley. Pick up his
Tommy gun and then hot foot it back to the back door of the
restaurant and start shooting some of the guys out front. Salieri
will also kill a few, but remember to keep an eye on his
health.

Be aware of about four guys who will come in to the restaurant
through the back door, simply wait for them and mow them down
with your Tommy gun.

When all the guys out the front and back are dead, go out the
back door and into the other open door.
Go upstairs but watch out for a guy with a Tommy gun here.
Collect his Tommy gun ammo.

After the cutscene, go to Carlo's flat and walk onto the fire
escape and watch where he runs to. Go down and take him out, but
be careful as he has a gun. After you kill him, watch out for
dudes who come out of a door and try to get you. They’re armed
with baseball bats and handguns but you should be able to finish
them off.

MAFIA: Free Ride Extreme walkthrough by The Gamer (C) 2002 PART
I

FREE RIDE EXTREME

There are 19 missions in all, and you get a bonus car every time
you complete one, you start from your home in Oakwood, note
there is a health chest on the wall there should you need it,
your car is parked in the back garden, to open the garage doors
there is a button on a post between them.

For convenience I will list all the missions in the areas they
can be found on the map, central island, the left mainland and
the right mainland.

Start by noticing the guy on the other side of the road from
your house who is waving his arm about, he is the one who
introduces you to the game, you go up to him and click your
action key as if to talk to him, a message will show; telling
you that there are 19 identical men to him in the city you can
find; that will wave their arm at you, you can go to them to
recieve a mission, and you can go to the lighthouse at any time
to recieve visual clues, of course you don't need those visual
clues now you have this guide, but if you want to for
curiosity's sake then simply get to the lighthouse and press you
action key on the wooden door there and you will get random
visual clues, it's helpful if you recognise these places where
the men are shown but if not, then it's not much use.

MISSIONS FOUND ON THE MAINLAND ON THE RIGHT IN THE MAP ( ST PAUL
COAST)

KILL SPEEDY GONZALEZ
Location: Man further to the right, down the street from your
house in Oakwood.
Bonus car: Flower Power

If you look back up your street you will see a guy running very
very quickly, that's Speedy Gonzalez, he's really fast, but he
does stop every now and then at a street corner for a breather,
follow him and try to stay with him, once he gets over the
Giuliano bridge you have a good opportunity to mow him down,
sometimes even another car will run him down as he does tend to
run about all over the place, if you don't get him at the bridge
just keep on chasing him, sometimes you can even shoot him when
he's standing still, when you've killed him you will see if you
didn't already, that he is in his underwear, no wonder he was
running about so fast, he no doubt wanted to get to the nearest
tailors before someone recognised him!

RACE CAR EXCHANGE
Location: at the foot of the hill on the right, where Hoboken
leads up to Oak Hill
Bonus car: Caesar 8C Mostro

You need to swap 3 race cars round on the transporters they are
perched on.

Car 1: You start by moving to the right of the waving man to see
that your first car is tucked away just there, run up the plank
at the side of the car to get into it, then drive it down the
planks carefully and make your way to the old prison at the top
of Central Island, start by taking the right turn and take the
Giuliano Bridge to get there, notice that the map doesn't show
you exactly where the car is or what direction to go in, so
remember in the game where Tom went down that ladder to get into
the old prison? the car is parked there, when you get to it,
park the red car so it wont be in the way when you drive the
other off the transporter, and so it will be quick and easy to
then get the red one up onto the transporter, I drive in the
bonnet view, which I find very easy to line the front wheels up
with the planks, the trick is to have the car lined up nice and
straight, don't be too close when you attempt it, and just give
the car some gas and then let it roll up the planks nice and
easy.

Car 2: Now drive this blue car over the West Marshall Bridge,
start by going right where you can drive straight and fast for a
bit, then turn in left so you can get onto the bridge, when you
have exited the bridge you need to turn right immedately into
that car park area and drive through right over the paved area,
so that you are more or less going under the bridges support,
head through and see an area as you cross a road, you need to
just steer to the right a little and you will see the opening,
you should be more or less going right up to the waters edge,
then stop and notice to your left, in an enclosed area you will
see the transporter.

Car 3: Drive the white car back to where you took the red car
off the transporter at the very begining, so you need to go back
over the West Marshall bridge, then get over the Giuliano
Bridge, head to Hoboken and then find where Hoboken leads to Oak
hill, carefully let the car roll up the transporter, time may be
pressuring you here but keep cool.
Stay in the white race car and let the game save before you get
out of it.

THE TIMER EXPLODING TRUCK
Location: Where it says 'HOBOKEN' on the map, look for the
straight main road above the lettering, and see the truck parked
off onto a side road, its just across the way from the car in
the 'Gas guzzling Treutenberg' mission.
Bonus car:Masseur

You must stay away from other cars in this mission, one bump and
the truck will explode, but as long as you control it carefully
at speed you should be ok, time is more of a factor to succeding
to be honest.

Start by quickly getting in the truck and turning left
Turn left again and drive until the road ends then turn right.
You will now be on a long straight road of north hoboken, when
you get to the end of it turn left, your going to go over the
Giuliano Bridge.
Go across the Giluliano bridge and be fast here but also very
careful of other cars, you need to then go across the West
Marshall bridge.
Get across the West Marshall bridge and stay on this road right
the very end, then turn left obviously,
Now look to your right almost immediately there will be an
alleyway, go through this alley area, when you exit the alley
area go straight onto the road keeping in the same direction,
the road is slightly to your right,
When you come to the end of this road, note ahead to the right
there is a blue sign on a building saying 'Carver' this shows
you your in the right spot, now look directly across the road,
there are some metal corrugated gates with some flimsy half open
light coloured doors inbetween them, gently nudge these and
drive through them, you will see a sandy coloured dirt path now,
drive through this and you will see your bonus car ahead of you
just to the right slightly, look at your radar now for the red X
and park there, mission done!

GAS GUZZLING TRAUTENBERG J
Location: Where it says 'HOBOKEN' on the map, look for the
straight main road above the lettering it is a piece of dirt
land with a red sports car parked on it.
Bonus car: Speedee 4WD

You have to drive this gas hungry beast to the petrol service
pumping station on the very far left of the map, now there are 3
gas stations in the game, one on each area, you must stop at
them all and fill it up, you need to switch to manual gears for
this mission if you have the car in automatic as a rule, just
press 'M' on your keyboard to switch to manual, you may also
want to check which keys you have for changing gears up and
down.
The reason you need manual gears is; you need to coast to save
fuel, so as soon as you have given it enough acceleration you
must put it into neutral and let it coast along, then when it
gets to about as low as 15mph, give it another nudge along by
putting it in 1st gear and accelerating some more, this is the
only way you can make it, also the choice of route is very
important.

So start by gently driving off down to the main road at the very
bottom of Hoboken, your target for now is that local gas
station, it helps to pause the game and look at your paper map
included with the game to work out where your going, so make it
along this main road until you come to it, the hill starts to
climb a little just before the station, don't go mad when you
accelerate, with practice you will soon learn whats enough,
basically you need to coast as much as possible and just give it
acceleration to stop you losing push, now it's also important
how you park up to refuel, the car refuels on your left about
where you door is, so you need to park the car inside the
station, with your left door next to the gas pump, it also has
to be inside the area, behind the white pillars, not out on the
forecourt side.
When you stop there, press your action key and a drop down menu
will show, pick the 'refuel' option and the man there will fill
her up for you, notice the needle will be at the top again,
incidentally if the fuel gauge gets to the red you will run out
immediately, not at the very bottom like it really would, so be
warned, theres no flashing light to warn you, as soon as your
needle hits the red it will flash and stop dead.

Now drive off up the hill and then when you get to about the 2nd
turn on your right take it, your heading over the giuliano
bridge next, so keep heading for it, make it over the bridge and
turn right at the traffic lights, coasting with some speed now,
and take the left to make it over to the next gas station, when
you get to this one it will be on your left, so you need to
drive into it from the back and turn the car round so your left
side is facing the pump, basically the front of your car will be
facing the way you just came, once you are full, drive the way
you are currently facing and take the first on the right, this
way will lead you to the West Marshall bridge, again get up and
then coast all the way down the bridge, take the turn on the
right to the 3rd and final gas station, turn right again, and
then drive in again parking nicely so your left side is next to
the pump.

Now drive out and turn around so your driving back in the
direction you just came from, your going to now drive straight
ahead and take the top route not the bottom route to the works
quarter as this gives better coasting and is slightly shorter,
so you will drive straight, then take a slight right then left,
then a slight left again and approach the fire service pumping
station from the top area, so it will be on your right when you
are getting close to it, then drive in and park your car where
the red X is on your radar, and look at the new car you just
won sitting there.

DEFUSE THE BOMBS
Location: Guy at the foot of a driveway in Oakhill, its just to
the right of the name 'Oak Hill', on the map.
Bonus car: Bob Mylan 4WD

You can opt to use the car there at the location, but it can be
done in your own car just fine, you need to get to the bombs
fast as there is a timer for each one.

Bomb numbers in order:
1. At the gate just in front of you
2. At the little roundabout in Oakwood, it is on the bottom of
a tree in that roundabout.
3. The church Dowtown, it is at the churchs door.
4. The Art Gallery, get across the East Marshall Bridge from the
church to get to the gallery quickly.
5. The Railroad Station, get across the West Marshall Bridge to
get to the Railroad station, the bomb is at the door.
6. The Fire Station.
7. Ralphs garage at the Salieri bar, go into his garage and the
bomb is at the top of those metal stairs in his garage.
8. The Armoury, get across the Terranova Bridge to find the bomb
at the Armourys door.
9. The back of a building across from the entrance to Hoboken
from Oak Hill

You will see the bonus car when your coming up the road its a
flashy looking thing, the bomb is tucked away to the left of it,
this bomb is huge, stand round to the front of it when you
defuse it.

KEEP THE SPEED ABOVE 34 MPH IN THE TRUCK WITH THE BOMB
Location: South east downtown at the L shaped area
Bonus car: Masseur Taxi

You may recognize this area from when Paulie's gun jammed on him
when he tried to kill Morello.
You have to get the truck to 34mph within 30 seconds, this is to
stop you crawling along to make it easier for yourself, once
it's over 34mph you cannot go below that speed or its going to
blow up.

You can take any route really for this mission as long as it
works for you, but this is the one I used, start by driving onto
the East Marshall bridge, turn left at the end of it and then
when you get to the large parking lot in front of the municipal
building drive across it in a wide arc then head up north of
Central island, then make the turn to get over the west marshall
bridge, this can be tricky as it is ascending now and you need
to make the turn also, so try and build some speed and turn
enough to get round the bend and up the start of the bridge,
once over the bridge take the 3rd left after the bridge, this
wil be the wide main road below the letter 'R' in the word
'Quarter'on themap and then turn right, at the end of the road,
look for the place, it's just past the dark brown wooden sheds
there.

SNIPER MISSION
Location: Downtown, up the steps at the doorway of the high
white building smack in the centre of the block between the
Federal Trade commision and Downtown station.
Bonus car: Manta Prototype

You won't be able to see the waving guy from the street as the
steps at the top of the building are so steep, so walk up them
and then you will find him at the top outside the buildings
doorway, now see the manta car ahead perched there like a
display piece?
well on the right of it is a sniper rifle leaning against the
door, you need to dash to it, jump as you run to help avoid
bullets from the 3 snipers firing at you.

Firstly know these are the positions the snipers will be in:

These directions are if you are still facing the man and the
building he is outside:

Sniper to the right of the building on the rooftop, the shorter
one on that side with the two verandas on it, it's more of less
facing the black United States Post Office building.
Sniper facing the building, in the building opposite the front
of the car, he is above and to the left of the yellow 'bad guy
pale ale' sign.
Sniper on top left near the billboard sign of the black building
which is the United States Post Office on the left hand side.

Once you have run and got the sniper rifle, run back a little
and drop down onto the steps there on the right of the car, then
crouch with the concrete on your right for some cover from the
sniper on your right and then aim your crosshair on the guy at
the 'bad guy pale ale' sign straight ahead, then press 'S' to
bring in your scope on your gun, then shoot him, when he is
dead, turn to face right and then aim for the left of the black
US post office building, again press S and shoot him down, now
go up the steps higher so you can see the other guy and aim for
him and zoom in and shoot him, if your quick and accurate this
mission is easy.

THE INVISIBLE MAN
Location: Morello's bar
Bonus car: Bolt Thrower

This mission is actually quite easy once you know the route the
invisible man takes, but you still have to keep your eyes open.
He starts by running into the left alley just a few yards from
the start, (where you crept into the car park at Morellos from
the back, in the story mode) he runs to the yellow cannisters,
then runs around then goes onto the pavement and heads up the
road on the right along the pavement, he then takes the right
turn, goes up that road a bit, then crouches, he then goes back
towards the main road, crosses it, goes up the road on the other
side and then he will stand in the phone box there on the corner
for a bit, then he will cross the road going over to the other
side of the road in the same direction you were chasing him
before he went into the phone box, he will run to the right
along that pavement and then when you get to a little area with
a brick wall, he stands there in the left corner next to the
wall for a bit, he is really hard to see here, then he will run
down to the New Ark elelvated railway and run up the boarding
entrance on the right, it's easy to lose him here, but note that
he will stand on the very left edge, then run away again down to
the street, but you don't have to bother running after him,
because he will come back again soon, notice the train that has
just come, on the side you are on? well ignore that one, when
another one comes in a minute still on your side, then he will
be back, he will go further up the platform, and get on at the
2nd door from the start of the train, get in with him, he gets
off at the first stop which will be Giuliano Street, he will
then run up the road, then cross over, go up that road a little
and then go into a narrow alley with fencing on its sides, this
will be on your right, he will then run around this area, crouch
a bit and then, eventually heading up and to the left, then he
will get onto the street and turn left, and come to a stop in a
doorway not far from the waters edge under the bridge, your red
Bolt thrower bonus car will be nearby on the other side of the
road.

THE DISTORTED VISION RACING CAR
Location: At the very end of the alley; to the right, on the
right of yellow Petes doorway in Hoboken.
Bonus car: Crazy Horse

Ugh! this car may make you feel spaced out at first, the faster
you drive the more elongated the view will appear, once you get
to about 60mph you will have the most terrible tunnel vision,
you may even have to experiment with the car views here to find
one you prefer, but the route is on the map with red X marks to
aim for, so you don't need directions, it's actually nice and
easy to follow, and with a few goes to get used to the strange
effects and know the route seamlessly you should complete it,
but don't keep doing it too many times at one sitting as it can
make you feel quite dizzy. I did it on my fourth attempt and am
just starting to feel dizzy.
There may be one X spot where you have trouble figuring out
where it is, when you have got to the top of the long road that
is the north perimiter of Hoboken, you turn right and go into
the car park there, then exit it at the other entrance on the
right.
This mission ends at the police station, in the south of Central
island, you simply have to go fast to do this mission, and
really floor it once you are going to south Downtown and
especially across the East Marshall bridge and along the road to
the police station, if you are lucky and don't hit anything you
will make it.
