Ico - Walkthrough

Welcome to Slaveunit's Ico walkthrough. As usual, I have tried to
keep things simple to understand, yet tricky enough to keep the
game a challenge. Please at least having a go at each puzzle
before looking at this, you paid for the game, you might as well
play it! Anyway, enjoy!

------------------------------------------------

Part I: Tombs

The crypt
When you wake from the dream, head straight to the switch.
Nothing else here.

Storage area
Climb the chain and jump off facing away from the ledge. Climb
through the window and jump off.

Confinement tower
To your right and left you will see two ladders. Take the one on
the right for now and climb the long terrace of stepsand up to
the top. Here you find Yorda. Climb the first ledge within your
reach and jump outside, then go around the bend until you reach
the very last window. Pull the lever and the princess will
descend to the bottom. Run back down the way you came and you
will see her in the middle of the room still suspended just a few
feet above the ground. Climb the opposite ladder and jump om the
cage.

Quickly pick up the brand and go over to the spirit and clobber
it to death. Take Yorda to the idol door at the front of the room
and she will open it for you.

Weathered Bridge
Head outside and to your left you will find a glowing couch - you
can save here. Then go across the bridge which will break. Help
Yorda up and continue on. Head through the door, kill the spirits
and then move the box in the pit to the left.

Hall
Take the stairwell to the next room. There are more spirits here
but don't worry about them just yet. Leave Yorda and jump off the
ledge and head left, pull the lever and a door will open. Climb
the chain and jump off onto the ledge. As soon as you land the
spirits will come after Yorda. Defeat them, then climb up and
push the box to the lower area to help Yorda up.

Part II: Fear of Falling

Head up the stairs to the left and around the bend. You will find
a few more nasties. Make note of the glowing chair nearby, but
save there once you've had a look from the top of the watch
tower. As you come back the way you came you should see a track
going around the edge of the castle. Get to it and follow it
until you arrive at the trolly. Once on it, move it forward. At
the end of the track you can use it as a ladder and save again.

Grab on to the fissure in the wall and shimmy to the right to a
collum. Pull the switch there and a large box will move towards
Yorda. Get her on the box, climb up the chain, and flip the
switch again to move the box back to it's start position. Guide
Yorda off of the box and jump onto the collumn nearby. A quick
save, and then on to the next room.

Long hall
Above you , just over the bridge is a chandelier Run across the
bridge and jump the pit. You cannot reach the ladder so climb the
windowsills towards the chandelier. Jump on the chandelier now
and it will come down on the bridge.

Go back outside with Yorda and down the stairs by the couch. When
you reach the bottom you will find some bombs, help yourself!
Place the bomb on the closest side to the chandelier (On the
right, coming in). If you don't have your stick with you, there
are some in the corner next to some pots. Set the stick alight
and light the bomb. The way is now clear for Yorda. Head back up
to the bridge entrance. Look out for the nastie-pasties, but just
head for the spirit door instead of fighting them.

Courtyard
There is a ton of monsters here. You could either beat them off
with a stick, or break through to the idol door. It doesn't
matterwhich, they are both a pain.

Main gate
Enjoy the cutscene and save. Yorda hints for you to pull all
eight pillars to the center, so you can guess that that's what
you have to do here.

Courtyard
Go back to the front entrance and grab a bomb by the right of the
entrance. Take the bomb to the opposite side where a pathway is
boarded up. Light the bomb from the torch.

Cemetary
Go down the long pathway and save at the end. Then kill the
spirits and go on down to the lower level. Easy!

To open the door ahead you need two weights. Use the box behind
you for one, and Yorda for the other. She'll behave herself and
stay.

Citadel
Climb up the ladder to the left and jump onto the chain. Once up,
head outside. Here is the other box. Push it to the ground and
jump down yourself. Kill a couple of spirits, then push the other
box on to the other switch and take Yorda inside.

Go back up the chain and back outside. To the right is a switch.
Pull it, then head straight across and climb on the projecting
rock. Head over to the ladder, then climb up and jump onto the
chain and swing yourself over.

When you land, a load of monsters appear and go for Yorda. If
you're quick, you can grab Yorda and pull her to the spirit door
without fighting any of them, though if they get her, you'll have
to go into the pit to fight them.

Windmill
To your right you will see a switch, and the path leading to it
ends at the top of the windmill. How do you get up there? Well,
from the entrance, go to the left side of the windmill and up the
small
set of stairs. Climb up the wall clefts until you reach a bit
where you can walk, then hitch a ride on the windmill blades.
I'll let you work that bit out!

Head to the destroyed portion of the bridge and pull the switch.
A bridge will come out, but not
all the way. Help Yorda over, then quickly go back and save
before heading to the spirit door.

Sewers
Kill the monsters, then climb the chain. You will come to a
grassy area with several sewage holes. Ignore the chain as you
cannot reach it yet, and head for the uncovered hole where Yorda
will be waiting for you at the bottom. Go to the platform and
call Yorda, who will come when the gate is open. Get her on the
other platform, then leg it to the other gate. Climb the pipe,
jump the sewerage pit and go over to the open sewerage hole. Call
Yorda, pull her up and head to the spirit door.

Stone Pillar
Go up the elevator shaft, and take the path that Yorda can't. Go
across the rocks until you get to a column, then jump towards the
box. As you push the box to help Yorda, a few monsters appear.
Kill these, head to the couch.

Shove the box towards the switch and pull it, then bring the box
back and climb up to get a chain on the other side. Ignore the
spirits for now, and climb down the chain, then deal with them.
Push one of the boxes in the window, and you'll be at the sewer
again.

Sewer
You can now use the box you have just dropped to get to the path
you couldn't reach before. Climb up, run down the passage and
climb the chain.

Stone Pillar
Climb the ladder, jump onto the chain, then swing over to the
other side and pull the switch. Get down quickly, as the monsters
now have Yorda, so slide down the chain, grab yorda and run to
the door. You should'nt have to fight if you're quick.

Part III Symmetry

Ignore the ladder for now and head down and take a left.

East Colloseum
Get you and Yorda up the ladder, kill a few beasties, and save.
Take the only available exit.

Eastern Idol Stairs
Stand on the platform with Yorda, and steps appear, leading to
the opening. Kill all the monsters, the flip the switch. You now
need to light all the torches to continue.
East Reflector
Head outside, ignore the contraption for now, and both of you
head up the ladder and back inside.

East Colloseum
You should be back where you were, only in a different place.
Pull the switch and the same happens, but you cannot reach the
torches. Light your stick, then light all the torches you can
reach. The circular door opens and you get a sword! Finally!

Gates rise and capture you both, but your mighty sword can cut
the ropes. Climb the stairs by the blocked door and cut the rope
to open the door. As you go through, climb the ledges on Ico's
right (tough!) then at the top go right, open the pressure door.
U turn, jump the pit in the walkway, and you get to four ropes.
Cut all of these and pull the switch at the end, then go back and
get Yorda across the bridge.

You'll get to a balcony. Or is it? As you walk, near the edge, a
bridge will start to appear. continue, and more of the bridge
appears. Open the idol door, head left and pull a switch at the
end. Light some torches, then head down the elevator shaft at the
other side and grab a stick which you can use to light the other
torches. Don't forget your sword....

Cutscene - light reflects from an orb to a gate, and a door opens
by a huge ladder.

Right. Kill some monsters, (if they fly off with her there is no
way of getting her back), then go up the walkway and to the
ladder.

Courtyard balcony
The sword is the same as the one you have, so leave it if you
have one. Pull the switch for the bridge, then go over the bridge
and turn left. Pull the box to the first column, jump to the next
and cut the rope, then head back into the long hall.

Long Hall
Head left, and up the side, back over the chain, kill the
monsters, then back to the courtyard. Save at the column while
you can.

Courtyard
Leave Yorda here and climb up the rope you let down erlier to the
second floor window, and swing in. Pull the box out, then push it
down for Yorda. Open the idol door.

Part IV: Water and wood

Waterfall
Go across the bridge and onto the next level, then save. Head
into the pit and leave Yorda at the bottom for now and take the
elevator to the higher bridge. Go inside, and climb the window
with the blinding light.

Take the chain that you can now reach, swing across to the other
side, then down the ladder to get Yorda. Take her up to the
pressure door, then through this and another into a large room.
Take the left rails around the edge to get to a switch. This
starts a bouncing thing, that will let you get to a ledge if you
time it right, then out the window.

Climb on to the platform, then jump to the waterwheel, then jump
to the bar, then onto the roof. This is really tricky! turn the
waterwheel off here, then push the block into the river to get
across. Then head up the dam and shut the floodgates.

After you get outside the room, head over to the steps and beat
the hell out of the nearby tree. A ball falls out and a door
opens. Take the ball back to Yorda. Between the two flights of
stairs is three bits of wall. Push on the middle one on the side
to a secret room, and take Yorda in with you. I'll let you see
this bit for yourself...

Waterfall (continued)
Go back outside, and push the box toward the ex-waterfall. It's
not quite in place, so push it down once again. Head to the
bottom and kill some monsters, then open the idol doors.

Gondola
Take the path, save, head down the steps, then straight on to
some more steps that go nowhere. Climb the pipe, and head to a
tower which can be moved. Move it to the end of the track where
you came from, and climb the ladder on the front side. On the
right is a switch, then get back to Yorda fast, kill some
meanies, then head over the bridge and up the elevator shaft.

Water Tower
Push the bar anticlockwise to raise the elevator. Save at the
top, then both leap across the pit. Leave her here for now, then
go down the ladder and jump to the chain. Swing on the chain and
jump to the drawbridge to lower it, then go and get Yorda. head
right to a storage room and grab a bomb, drop your weapon and
grab a stick. Put the bomb in the middle of the platform and
light it, then pick it up and lob it at the tower to make a
bridge.

Get your weapon back, both cross the bridge. Leave Yorda here,
climb the chain, and push the box to the switch. Pulling this
switch makes a crate move to the center of the pit, then leg it
back and kill some nasties, then both head to the other side. Are
we having fun or what!?!?!?!

Part V Symmmetry II

Western Walkway
Go through the idol dors, right onto the balcony and to some more
idol doors. Through these, down the walkway and into...

Western Arena
Similar to the Eastern area but in reverse. Head to the left and
cut the rope to get to the next room.

Western Idol Stairs
Same deal as the Eastern idol stairs. Step on the platform at the
bottom for the stairs to appear, flip the switch at the top and
light the two torches near the vault. Kill a few nasties, (you
might consider taking Yorda and going back for the mace if you
don't still have it). As it's the same as erlier, you should work
out how to open the door, the torch near the switch?

Western reflector
Turn the reflector to the right place before continuing

Western Idol Stairs
Jump onto the chain and go up. Round the bannister, over the pit,
up the stairs chopping ropes on the way until you get to a
pressure door. Flip the switch to stop the water in the next room
and grab a bomb to use on the boarded up door. Head back to Yorda
and take her to the colluseum and through the room on the
right.

Up the slope with Yorda and over the bridge. Get her to open the
idol door and pull the nearby switch. Go left, down the elevator,
get a stick, then back up and light it. Back down again to light
the torches.

Western Walkway
Head down the walkway and up the ladder, calling Yorda. Through
the door, pull the switch and the final drawbridge lowers! Yay!
Go back down to the main gate.

Main Gate
Head up to the glowing gate and open it. Head left and save. THIS
IS THE LAST PLACE YOU CAN SAVE. Yorda is knackered from the gate
so go slowly.

Cutscene - Nooooooo!

Part VI: The Sea

Hanging Prison
Look carefully, and you'll see the cells are swinging. Time it
right and you'll be fine.

Wheels and Cogs
At the mountainside, go left, and then right at the next fork to
get to a gate with two switches. Pull the front one for a chain.
Push the box into the channel and take it over to the ladder and
climb up, pulling a switch while you're there. The gate will
open, so head through and take the box with you.

Line up the box with the chain, then get on the chain and swing
on to the platform. Push the trolley all the way back and wheels
start turning. Grab a rod windmill style over to the other
side.

There is two chains for you to get to the platform. Head to the
top of the pipe and press triangle. Catch the chain and swing
back to the next one, then up the ladder and round the revolving
cogs.

Mountainside
Don't fall! Be extra careful! When you get to the pipes, go
straght on to the elevator tower.

Elevator Tower
Over the bridge and down the chain on the left. Jump to the tower
ledge, over a bridge and then left. Onto the metal tracks on the
other side of the entrance, pull the trolley toward the outer
wall, then down the chain you just let down. Ignore the ladder
and go along the outer wall to the right until you get to another
ladder. Leap carefully and press triangle to get the ledge. Climb
down the ledges to the bottom and head for the outer door.

The Idol Sword
Theres a few pillars and a bost, but ignore this and head up the
slope to take the sword from the altar.

Elevator shaft
You can now open idol doors, so open them up and head inside.
Pull the switch and head up to where you first escaped.

Boss Fight
Kill the demons, easy with the new weaponry. With each one, a
tomb lights up. Light them all and the platform rises....

The Queen
The queen creates a force field. There are two pillars which will
shelter you from her attacks. Each time you hit her, your weapon
flies off so just stand behind one of the pillars and as soon as
one of her waves passes, run for the sword, as while you have it
on you, you are immune to her attacks. Five strikes and the force
field goes. See the area that glows green? stand right on the
edge, then as soon as the wave passes, run for it and stab her in
the heart.

Epilogue
Run along the surf to the left to Yorda.

That's it. Truely a beautiful game.
