Intro

Well done, you own the best football game thats out there, Pro
Evolution Soccer 2. I have written this guide to help you if
you are finding it hard to win. I think that I am good at the
game, so I will try and give you some hints on how to out smart
the computer and score many goals. First things first though, if
you are reading this and havent skimmed through the instruction
manual, I suggest you do that now. It contains basic and
advanced controls, and some very nifty hints to help you win.

*********
Controls
*********

Now I use the default controls, but I have altered my controls
slightly, so that I can play the game a lot easier. Ive played
the Fifa series since I was very young, and got attached to the
Fifa controls. This is why I have the O button to shoot and to
slide tackle, and I have changed the Square button to cross
the ball.

***********************
Before you start playing
***********************

Different people play the game differently, so Im not expecting
you to follow this guide point by point. You will find ways that
are easier to score than what I have said to, so be sensible and
stick to what is successful. But, before you get playing, it is
important to have the right team and the right formation. If you
are playing a friendly game, the team that you select will
already have the proper players and the right formation. But if
you are playing in the Master League, you will need to purchase
your desired players, and sort out your formation.

For a formation, it is completely up to you what you decide to
use. There is no right formation; it is just the formation
that suits the way you play best. But, if you arent playing
very well and are going to use my guide as help, Id suggest a
few simple formations. I use the 4-4-2 formation, mainly because
it allows you to have a strong defence and play many through
balls, as well as allowing you to work the ball up the pitch,
rather than just booting it up to the strikers. Another
formation that can work very well is the 3-5-2 one. Although
this may seem a weak formation, with only 3 defenders, the 5
players in midfield will be a very strong line and hardly ever
let any one through, so you may not even need a defence. The
5-3-2 formation can be very useful against harder opponents, but
it isnt as useful against weaker opponents, because it doesnt
allow you to make as many goal scoring moves as before, because
you will find it hard to pass through balls with only 3
midfielders.

These are the only formations I would strongly suggest, mainly
because they are very strong when defending. If you do decide to
use a different formation, I would strongly advise that you only
have 2 attackers at the most, unless you have a player
supporting the 2 attackers, but you should defiantly not have 3
attackers in a line. If you do have 2 or more attackers in a
line, your players can get very bunched up, and you may find
that you are running into yourself all the time. 2 attackers
works very well because it allows you to play 1-2s with each
other, meaning that you can churn up the defence a lot easier.

Tactics? I cant really suggest any major tactics to use,
because each player is unique in the way they play. I can,
however, suggest a few ways in which to get the ball working on
your side. The first thing is to keep the ball on the ground,
and not play too many high balls. Playing high balls leaves the
defenders more time to get to the ball, but a fastball along the
floor will cause a lot more damage. The second tip is to use the
sides of the pitch, and make sure that your wingers are always
being supported, in case they cant run down the wings. The
third tip is to simply pass the ball up the pitch. Dont go on a
murderous run, because passing is a lot easier, safer and
quicker. For more tips on how to get the ball into the back of
the net, look at The basics of attacking section.

***********************
The basics of defending
***********************

Now although the idea of football is to score goals, I think
that it is a lot more important to prevent the ball from going
into your own net. So, these steps are what I follow to defend
successfully:

- Make sure that your midfield are very strong and are in a
basic line, preventing any space that the other team can get
through. Although you dont want your players cramped up on the
pitch, you dont want to put them too far away so that they
cant pass to each other easily.

- If the ball does manage to get through your midfield, try and
get your defence to play in zones. This means that the
defender directly in line with the player in front should go and
tackle him. If the attacker is running along the line of the
defence, switch the defender and tackle him. If you use one
defender, the attacker could lead him away from his position,
leaving a large gap for a through ball to be played through.

- And, as a last resort if the attacker gets round the rest of
your team, hold down the Triangle button to make your keeper
run out and try to tackle the defender. Now this is risky,
because your keeper can misjudge the tackle and get sent off.
But you can always substitute another player and put an
alternative keeper in, but you cant take away a goal.
*********************
The basics of attacking
*********************

Here we are then, and I have a lot more tips on how to score a
goal than how to defend them. Scoring is an art, and thanks to
PES2 it actually looks like art. So, here are my tips on how to
score goals and how to unwind the opponents defence:

- Try to play the ball to the wings, allowing for them to try
and reach the corner flag. Although the goal is in the middle of
the pitch, you can put an effective cross in from the sides of
the pitch.

- Even if you arent at the corner of the pitch, you can still
put a very good cross in. For this, hold the L1 button and
press the Square button to cross the ball to the goalmouth,
dependant on what controls you have assigned.

- Now your attackers are bound to be goal-scoring magicians, but
if they work together, they can score a lot more goals. So, play
1-2s with each other, by holding the L1 button and either by
pressing the X button or the Triangle button to pass back.
Pressing the X button will pass back to their feet, but
pressing the Triangle button will play a little chip over the
top of the defence, leaving your attacker to run onto the ball
and score.

- You can just hold the L1 button and press the Triangle
button without playing a one too; you can use this move to turn
a defence in side out when other attacks arent working very
well.

- Make sure you are shooting from long range as well, by this I
mean from just outside the penalty area. The most effective way
to score from long range is to run across the goal face, and
then hitting the ball with the outside of your boot. This system
will make your attacker hit the ball into the corner of the
goal, making it very hard for the keeper to reach. Even if the
keeper does clip the ball, you are most likely to get a corner.

- If there doesnt look like anything will work, and there are a
lot of people in front of the ball, try winding your way through
the defence. To do this, run towards a defender, and then press
backwards, making you turn around with the ball. Then turn back
around, facing slightly in a different direction, leaving the
defender looking like a right old kipper.

- If the above tip doesnt work, just keep at it. If not, try
running past the defender. Youll either make it past, or the
defender will lunge in and award you a free kick. Try this in
the area as well, aiming to get a penalty.

- If the defender has passed back to his keeper, dont give up.
Chase after the ball, because sometimes the keeper will fumble
it into your path, leaving you an open goal.

- If there doesnt seem to be anything happening around you,
look at the radar and see if there is one of your players on the
other side of the pitch. If there is, simply face him and hold
the cross button. If all the other players were on your side,
this can leave you an open run on goal, so keep watching the
radar for opportunities.

**********
Last words
**********

Building up to the goal area is what I have left you to do all
by yourself, because you may be better passing the ball up to
there or by running it up there. But PES2 is such a good game,
there are so many different things you can try out, and I have
only touched the surface of what you can do in this guide. So,
play the game a lot and try new things, dont stick to scoring
the same old goals all the time.

The players names are wrong if they come from a certain
country, so make sure to change their names. You will also need
to change the club team names as well, but this is quite easy to
do because the kits are so realistic. Here are a few sites that
tell you how to change the names:

So, thank you for reading this guide and I hope it was helpful.
May you enjoy your time with PES2; I know Im enjoying every
minute with it.

CREATE A TEAM
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have made this walkthrough to help you create a club team that
is not already on the game. I have made Everton but i'll tell
you how to make any team.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
1 -THE TEAM-
1.1 STARTING OFF
1.2 CHANGING THE FLAG
1.3 CHANGING THE NAME
1.4 CHANGING THE KIT
1.5 CHANGING THE TEAM COLOURS
1.6 GROUND

2 -THE PLAYERS-
2.1 GETTING THE PLAYERS
2.2 PRE-MADE PLAYERS
2.3 CREATING PLAYERS
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. - THE TEAM -
1.1 STARTING OFF

Start a master league. I would suggest a team that you would
never use as they will be over righted. Once started the master
league go to team management. Click on the club you have chosen.

1.2 CHANGING THE FLAG

Click on flag. You can either choose a pre made one or create
you own. When creating your own you can use only one piece of
text. You can use the rest of the nine spaces for pictures.
REMEMBER the further down the list the further back on the flag
it will be

1.3 CHANGING THE NAME

Simply just click on the name and press teriangle to delete the
current letters then just select the letters you want.

1.4 CHANGING THE KIT

Like the flag you can have a pre set kit but it is very unliklly
to have the correct kit for your team. So i suggest to create
your own. You can choose from loads of colour. Change both home
and away kit.

1.5 CHANGING THE TEAM COLOURS

This doesn't really effect much on the game but just click on it
and select a colour for your team

1.6 GROUND

Select one of the grounds on the game for your home ground
------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. - THE PLAYERS -

2.1 GETTING THE PLAYERS

In order for you to get the players you need some games to get
some points. You use these point to buy players. Also there is
now transfer windows on the PES2 so you cannot buy players when
ever you want.

2.2 PRE-MADE PLAYERS

When you have enought points to buy a player go to team
mangaement and then negotiations. Search through the teams at
the top of the page and select the player you want to buy. He
will be enterd into your team after the next game.

2.3 CREATING PLAYERS

If a player you want is not on the game then you can create him.
You will have to come out of your master league though. DONT
FORGET TO SAVE. On the main screen go to edit mode and click
create player. Work through the different things about the
player. Once finished save them to your memory card. Load up
your master league and go in to negotiations again. Search
through the teams at the top until you see the row of green
flags, you created player will be amongst one of them.
