Pro Evolution Soccer 3 - Master League Help Guide
-------------------------------------------------

About the Master League and Getting Started
-------------------------------------------

The Master League is undoubtedly the best mode on all of the Pro Evolution Soccer games, and Pro Evo 3 has improved upon this mode tremendously. It is your job in the Master League to become the best football team in the world, but believe me, it isn’t an easy job. When starting the Master League, you may need to think about what level you will start it at, as the teams are a lot better than they are in the Exhibition mode. Once you have set-up the Master League, you will see that you are stuck with a team of players, created by Konami to make the whole Master League experience a lot tougher.

Suggested Starting Line-Up
--------------------------

GK Ivarov - Certainly your first choice out of the three goalkeepers, but is definitely one of the worst keepers on the game. He has a reasonable jump and is quite tall, but don’t expect him to catch much. He often flaps at the ball, and is easily beaten, so either try and get a new keeper or protect him by building up a strong defence.

CBT Vornander - By far your best centre back. Very strong in the air and is likely to get you a few goals from the corner spot during your first season. Should be your dominant defender, although lacks pace when you’re playing against the faster strikers in your league.

CBT Dulic - A very solid defender, with stats all around the 70 mark. Not bad in the air, but is stronger on the ground. A very good player for when things go wrong with Vornander.

SB Valeny - Makes up for the centre backs’ weaknesses, pure speed. Valeny is the only defender that can really cause strikers problems when they’re running, and usually comes out on top. He may not have the stats for a side back, but that’s where you should play him.

SB Iouga - Very similar to Valeny although he isn’t as strong as him. Is quite good at defending, but like the two centre backs, lacks real pace.

DMF Celnili - Definitely one of your strongest players to start with. Your captain and your playmaker. Doesn’t let much past to get through to the defence, and does bury a few himself. Although don’t expect him to be able to score from outside the box, he often spoons it way over the bar.

LMF Ximilez - The best left footed player in your team, and does have a few of the stats that wingers need. Top speed almost in the 80’s, and his crossing is very good. You may be able to take it round a few defenders with him, but the final effort isn’t always there.

RMF Espimas - Very similar to Ximilez, although is noticeably weaker. His main threat is from throw-ins. With the long throw ability, Espimas can really threat the opponents defence near the goal line.

OMF Minanda - Playmaker number two. Minanda is Godly from the free-kick spot just outside the edge of the box, and he can shoot with the outside of his boot as well, so keep those shots flying in. His service to your strikers should be noticeably good, so try and feed it to him before giving it to the strikers.

CF Castolo - Your main goalscorer. A very good striker to start with and can put the ball into the back of the net. He can take it past quite a few people, and can set others up to. One of your best players without a doubt.

CF Barota - The player to partner Castolo upfront was between about 3 good players, but for me it was Barota. Not bad speed and has very consistent stats, averaging around the 70 mark. He has shot accuracy 82, which does come in handy.

Acquiring Players
-----------------

Now I’m sure that you’ll want to make your team stronger, and the only way you can do this is to buy players. The transfer windows during the first season are between the 13th and 15th week of the season, the 23rd to the 25th week and the off season period, during these times you can buy, sell and trade players with other clubs. There are two types of players in this game, and they are:

Free Players - These aren't necessarily free players, these are just players that aren't at a club on the game. You will have to pay a transer fee for them, but it is minimal. There are many good free players on the game, but sometimes their salary points are very high, so look carefully for the bargains.
------------
Out of contract players - These players will appear around half way through the season, and these are the players that have run out of contract at their current clubs, and on Pro Evo 3 you can offer to buy them before the computer signs them up for another couple of years. To find these players, simply look for a little green logo besides their name, indicating that their contract is running out. Alternatively, press the circle button when looking at a club teams roster, and search for “time left on contract”. The key to getting these players is to offer a slightly higher salary than will actually appear on the "set transfer points etc" screen. As long as you're doing well in your league and are winning games, they should come knocking on your door.
---------------

Suggested Players
-----------------

Below is a list of the players that I signed during the first transfer period, and the players that I strongly suggest that you offer for. Beside the player name I have written the nationality of the player, a little description on the player’s strong points and what their default salary points are.

GK Lee Woon-Jae - Quite a small keeper but h is such an improvement upon Ivarov or any of the default goalies. He can fumble the ball sometimes, but usually is very consistent. South Korea - 121 SALARY POINTS.

SB Lee Young-Pyo - Another small South Korean, who is a very good side back for the second division. Speedy and good at tackling, he won’t let much past him. South Korea - 198 SALARY POINTS.

SB Song Chong-Gug - Slightly better than Lee Young-Pyo in my opinion, Song Chong-Gug will be your best side back for quite a while, and will still cope even in the first division. South Korea - 186 SALARY POINTS.

CF Ahn Jung-Hwan - A really good striker with a bit of pace, good control and who is very good at finishing. Buy him to either partner Castolo upfront or to partner the man below. South Korea - 162 SALARY POINTS.

WF Lee Chun-Soo - The greatest export from the far east since Hideotoshi Nakata. Lee Chun-Soo has all the attributes that either a SMF, a WF or a CF would need. You can either partner him upfront with Ahn Jung-Hwan or stick him on the wing to attack defenders and to hang crosses in. Lee Chun-Soo really is a must buy. South Korea - 151 SALARY POINTS.

SMF Santos - Alex Santos is very underrated on the game, but he is still a very good SMF. Good pace and can pass the ball very well. Japan - 100 SALARY POINTS.

Other Players
-------------

Below is a list of players that are also “Free Players”, but have a slightly higher salary wage:

CF Ahmed Hassan - Egypt 590 SALARY POINTS

OMF Kallstrom - Sweden 453 SALARY POINTS

SMF Ndo - Cameroon 480 SALARY POINTS

CF Eto’o - Cameroon 635 SALARY POINTS

CF Emana - Cameroon 355 SALARY POINTS

CF Nikolaidis - Greece 528 SALARY POINTS

Selling Players
---------------

When another club offers for one of your players, don't rush into the decision of selling him. Think about the players role in your team (if he is in your starting line-up), and see whether you have anyone else to take place of him in your team.

Trading Players
---------------

New to Pro Evo 3 is the ability to trade players. If you are short of money but despirately need to buy a new player from another club, you can trade one of your players for one of theirs. Most likely, your player will have a lower transfer fee than their player, so you will have to make up the difference between the two players' transfer fees.

Quick Warning
-------------

Before you go and buy all of these players though, ending the season with minus points (e.g. -5000) will result in Game Over, and you will have to start again. So it’s alright for you to go into minus points at the beginning of the season, but only risk doing this if you think you can get the points back by the end of the season.

Other teams in Division 2
-------------------------

Auxerre - A very average team, although all of their players are better than your default team. They are good when attacking, and base a lot of their attacks around Cisse. Try using the counter attack setting to break through their defence when they are short in numbers.

Lens - Watch out for Moriera upfront, he is definately their main threat. Their defence is pretty poor, but they are quite fast, use 1-2 passes to get past them with ease.

AS Monaco - Watch out for Morientes and Camara in the air, as both are very good with their head. Keep vorlanter as CBT, but you may want to change Dulic for a taller defender who is better at heading.

Benfica - Zahovic and Nuno Gomes are your main threats here, but as long as you keep and eye on them you should be alright. Luisao is their main defender, but as long as you can out skill him you should keep on scoring.

Brescia - A team that i feel are the Italien Pompy, a team of very good experienced players. Robby Baggio is their playmaker and soal of the team, and is helped by Guardiola and Maniero who is upfront. Try counter-attacking against Brescia as well.

PESFan - A fictional team that came with the option file i downloaded (buy an X-Port from Special Reserve and then visit www.pesfan.com) that are full of good players. I wouldn't expect a victory against them, so just try and hold in for the draw, and if you can, knick in a sneaky goal.

Fulham - The best team in the second division in my opinion. Saha and Malbranque are trouble, and Van Der Sar is very hard to beat when he is on form. Like above, play out for the draw.

Master League

When you start in Master League mode I suggest you overwrite PES United or WE United as you dont get to keep the players from the team. You start Master League with a very weak team. It is important you pick the right formation I suggest a 4-4-3 formation otherwise you will never score because your forwards are not good enough.

* Keeper

* Right back * Left Back

*Centre back *Centre back

*Right midfield *Left Midfield

*Centre Midfield

*Right forward *Left Forward

*Centre Forward

The next thing you need to do is buy some promising players. During the Transfer Period go to the negotiations screen and apply for negotiations, choose select player by team and press R1 to go to the third team screen. Select GROWTH and choose the players you want to buy.I suggest buying One central midfielder, One defender and One forward. If you play these players in your team they will get a good amount of ability points. I don't suggest buying any more GROWTH players at this stage because it will weaken your team too much. To use these ability points go to team management and then train promising players.

Attacking Players need
Attack
Speed
Technique
Shot accuracy and power
Short pass speed and accuracy
Team work ability
Agility
Response
Jump

Midfield players need

Defence players need

Goal keepers need

Midfielders and attackers tend to get more points than defenders and goal keepers, but all ability points are based on how well the player plays in a game. The length of time players can be improved varies so you should increase their abilities after every game.

After 1 or 2 Seasons you should have enough points to go to the transfer market and go for the big players, Don'y worry about the big salarys players ask for because these players will help you win games and when you win you get extra points, so they are paying for themselves.

TACTICS

Wide play
One of the best tactics in the game is to go wide down the wing and either pass or cross the ball into the box. This will work nearly every time provided that you have somebody in the box who can header the ball.If you pass the ball into the box along the ground do not shoot with the player who gets the ball unless he is completely free the best thing to do is look for you're other forward who should be in the box and give it to him to shoot.

Direct play
If you have a strong midfield it is a good idea to flood the defence by passing the ball down the middle of the pitch with a series of 1-2's when you get to the edge of the box let one fly and if you've got it right the keeper will be picking the ball out of the back of the net.

Free kicks
If you are within 30 metres of the goal it is worth having a shot at goal. Use the halfway line on the radar as a pointer and aim at either side of the goal. Just below halfway on the power meter is usually perfect
After some practice you can try putting some curl on the ball with left and right. The best Free kick takers in the game are Beckham, Giggs, Totti, Zidane and Roberto Carlos

HOW TO GET PES POINTS

The easiest way to get PES points to spend in the PES shop is to win Cups and Tournaments. If you are just trying to get as many PES points as possible in the shortest time you should put it on 1 star and 5 minute games. When you win the tournament you will get 1000 PES points.
