///// 1 ::: Getting Started \\\\\

|| 1.1 : Welcome to Amplitude
-
Welcome to Amplitude indeed. A pretty hectic world awaits you in the neomodern twisting winding lanes of music. Play the guitars, the synth, the FX and the bass as you try and rack up the 4-bar scores. Get multipliers to hit the higher scores and unlock new songs in every arena.

It's going to get hectic; so you had better get ready! Once you're prepared and have lumbered up your fingers, let's play!
-
|| 1.2 : How to Play
-
Playing Amplitude is pretty simple. Cross up to 6 tracks to hit 3 different types of note on each. So look at the below diagram : half the maximum tracks you'll get :

Example 1 Example 2 Example 3

| O | | O | | O |
| O | | O | | O |
| O | | O | | O |

(Top down view)

To hit the notes, use L1 (or square), R1 (or Triangle) & R2 (or circle). The shapes are okay on the easiest setting, but one thumb is not enough for the rest.

So in example 1, you'd press R1 or triangle 3 times in row. All 3 notes would burst, and that track would repeat for around 8 bars. In example 2, you'd hit R2, R1 & L1 consecutively, to set off that track. In example 3, it would be R2, L1 and L1 again. The number of notes in a bar varies, sometimes 3 in a long bar, sometimes 32 in a short bar. It all depends on difficulty.
-
|| 1.3 : Modes & Multiplayer
-
There are various modes which will be looked into throughout the walkthrough, but the top 3 are Solo, Multiplayer and Online. In Solo is Game (the main bulk of Amplitude), Remix (completely edit all the songs in the main game) and Soundtrack (listen to all played songs). Multiplayer allows are 2-4 player duels, either against, co-operatively or in an effort to make new mixes with friends. Finally, we have Online, which is much the same as Multiplayer expect against the world.
-
|| 1.4 : Power Ups
-
There are a multitude (see what I did there?) of power-ups in Amplitude. A full list :

AutoBlaster (Green Square) : Blast away track for short time
Score Doubler (Yellow Polygon) : Double your score for a short while
Slow-Mo (Purple Polygon) : Sllllooooowwwww down the song for a bit
Freestyle (Blue Triangle) : Do as you like for a little while

And in multiplayer only

Crippler : Make the track ripple uncontrollably
Bumper : Give the enemy a little shunt for old time's sake ;)
-
|| 1.5 : FreQ!
-
In the game, you also have your own little in-game avatar, also known as a FreQ, who converts all your button punching into musical notes with his electronic instruments. A list of PreFabs (pre-made FreQs) and FreQ parts gained will be put after each song you earn them on. However, as a starter for you, you have the following PreFabs :

| Bruiser Roy
| Dread Girl
| Janet
| Cyber Girl
| Cyklor
| Bruce
| Toxic Doom
| Rex
| George
| T-Bone
| Crimson D
| Spike
| Robin
| Motomatic
| Mandy
| Zoe

All 'Arms' and 'Legs' are unlocked from the beginning, however, there are no 'Emblems', 'HeadGear' or 'FaceGear' unlocked as a default.

---
///// 2 ::: Solo Mode \\\\\
-
|| 2.1 : The Mode Basics (Game)
-
Solo Mode > Game is very simple. Make your way through the 5 different arenas playing all the tracks within each. The arenas that the game will take place in are :

| Neotropolis - you're average hectic light show
| Beat Factory - a huge warehouse full of beat pumping machines
| Meta Clouds - go high in the sky and hit the notes
| Elektro Kore - back to earth in the penultimate arena
| Blastlands - stuff everywhere, music will be flying!

Each arena progressively gets harder, though you may occasionally find an early song harder than a later one.
-
|| 2.2 : How Hard Can it Be?
-
Well, erm..very. There are 4 different difficulty settings in the game :

| Mellow - 'Frequency' veterans should ignore, newbies will adore
23 of 25 songs to play / beat.
| Normal - The average Joe option, not to hard but still challenging.
24 of 25 songs to play / beat (new in Elektro Kore)
| Brutal - harder than predecessor by quite a jump. fun for regulars
25 of 25 songs to play / beat (bew in Blastlands)
| Insane - extremely difficult patterns and songs. very very hard.
25 of 25 songs to play / beat (plus BONUS SONG)

You can earn the 'Insane' bonus song by passing every other bonus song on Insane in the other areas. More on the extra songs during the song information section
-
|| 2.3 : The Mode Basics (Remix)
-
Well, there really isn’t much to say. You lay out the tracks by pressing the buttons you would normally use the hit the notes and make tunes out of the different tracks and beats available. The vocals are pre-defined, and you work within the different sections of the song (Verse 1-3, Chorus, Break). Use the ‘Delay’ (Essentially an echo) or the ‘Loop’ to repeat sections.

If your remix is good enough, you could even have it uploaded to the online Remix Repository, a collection of the best remixes.

Finally, your completed Remix will be given a difficulty (Mellow to Insane) and then you can save and play them by choosing ‘Custom’ in the difficulty selection area.
-
|| 2.4 : What Can I Mix?
-
All the songs that you've unlocked in 'Game' mode can be remixed, either by editing the original track or creating your own version of the track using the same sounds from scratch.

Alternatively, you could use it as a tool to make certain levels more challenging, such as increasing the BPM on a track or adding more notes in between notes.

The are so many possibilities with the remixer : you simply have to play around with things to see what you can do to add more and more lifespan to the game.
-
|| 2.5 : Song Information
-
There are 26 songs in total in Amplitude, and we've got the lowdown on every one! Have a look for more info! (Note : all descriptions are from game song selection area, except my personal op)

..."Run-DMC team up with superhuman scratch artists The X-Ecutioners in this remix of the rap-rock song that started it all. As the first and the greatest of hip-hop's superstars, Run-DMC's mission has always been (in their words) to 'crash through walls, go through floors, bust through ceilings, and knock down doors.' || 2.6 : Tips and Tricks

You can hit multipliers of up to 8x by slamming down the tracks consecutively without missing a beat. Miss one though, the multiplier dies and your score goes back to single power. Example :

| O | | O | | X |
| O | | O | | X |
| O | | O | | X |
| O | | O | | X |
| O | | O | | X |
|+++++O+++++| |++++++++X++| |++++++++O++| Multiplier hits 3X
| O | | X | | O |
| O | | X | | O |
| O | | X | | O |
| O | | X | | O |
|+++++X+++++| |+++++O+++++| |++O++++++++| Multiplier hits 2X
| X | | O | | O |
| X | | O | | O |
| X | | O | | O |
| X | | O | | O | No multiplier

The X's indicate the notes you must hit, and in what sort of order, to gain a multiplier.

If you have a 8X multiplier and an AutoBlaster, but miss a bar, use it on the bar before a new playable bar comes in and you can keep your multiplier, though not get amazing points for the blasted track. Try to otherwise avoid the AutoBlasting of tracks. Use Score Doublers in conjunction with multipliers to get extremely high scores, like

Drum Track | 13 points
ScoreDouble| x2 points
----------------------
TotalScore | 26 points
Multiplier | x8 points
----------------------
FinalScore | 208 points.

Compare this to what you would get with no bonuses or such (13 points) and it's a difference of 195 points!

|| 2.7 : Scores to Aim For

We've listed some scores you can aim for in the challenging Brutal mode, as a good few won't reach or complete Insane and Normal is fairly easy. The target score is the assumed 4-bar score limit (as you get either [|], [||], [|||] or the infamous [||||] score levels). My score is MS, target is TS. E-mail me if you've got real high scores to [email protected]!

|| 3.1 : Quick Multiplayer Overview
-
Multiplayer in Amplitude comes in a variety of different forms. You can play it with 2-4 friends and a multi-tap or go online using the PS2 Ethernet Adapter and join in the Amplitude ranks. Player 1 is Green, P2 is blue, P3 is purple and P4 is orangey-yellow. You can play either :

| Game Mode - play as you would normally, trying to capture the tracks and get multipliers to have the highest score by the end
| Duel Mode - where you bounce tracks across each other, trying to completely the bars your opponent sets to spell 'AMPLITUDE'
| Remix Mode - colloborate with a friend or two to make a groovy new remix, and maybe even get it onto the Remix Repository.

Depending on how many players you have, the music keeps playing for between 6 and 2 bars, so with more players you have an equal chance of getting bars as they are constantly re-appearing after 2 bars.

The 'Duel Mode' is possibly the most interesting. You and a friend play for letters, one playing a bar, then the other playing a bar. Catch : the bars are laid down by your opponent, and can be rather hard.

However, to prevent unfairness, there are certain rules. You cannot place 32nd notes, and no more than 3 16th notes in a row. Do so, and you'll not be able to lay notes for a short while.

Amplitude

A Quick Guide to Destroying your High Scores.

Hello people, this is not so much a walkthrough, but as the title implies, more a collection of tips and tricks to maximise your scores.

First off I'll start with a list of power-ups, their uses and more importantly when and why you should use them.

OK here goes....

AutoBlaster(AB)- When deployed, this instantly 'blasts' 8 bars of your selected track. An AB's most obvious use is to deploy them when you are encountering a devilishly tricky section and get it out of the way.
However it is worth considering other tactical benefits of the AB.
For instance if you've worked up to a 8x multiplier and for whatever reason, make a mistake; you can quickly deploy your AB and your multiplier will remain intact.
Its also worth noting that AB's give you a substantial amount of energy back, so if your struggling and you have an AB, might as well blast that bad boy.
Finally when not to use them. I can't really think of a reason not to use an AB but maybe if you are nearing the end of a song, and have one spare, don't use it if you have a decent multiplier going. You will receive far more points for catching the notes traditionally (and utilising the multiplier) than for lazily using an AB.

Score Doubler(SD) - As you may have gathered by the subtle hint in the name of this power-up, it doubles your score.. yippee!
Obviously then, this makes it an essential tool for upping those scores. It can be deployed when and wherever, but to maximise its effect, its best to use it when there are at least four sequential tracks are available. This is because the effects of the SD last for 8 bars. It may also be worth saving a SD until you have a decent multiplier. It is not recommended that anyone use a SD when there are not enough tracks to blast to make it worthwhile. This being said however there are special situations that sometimes arise when playing. If you are zooming along blasting tracks and realise you are about to collect another power-up, it is best to use the SD before collecting the other power-up and get whatever benefit you can from it.

Slo-Mo - Slow motion. Only useful in extreme finger twisting situations. The benefits of the slo-mo are obvious but I still consider them to be the least useful of the power-ups. They have got one or two tactical uses I can think of however. The first is to use it and look ahead, to perhaps plan your route to more useful power ups when the action is not as intense. Also, If you are in a situation where you have to 'jump' over one or two blasted tracks to an active track, the slo-mo can sometimes give you the time you need to get over there and save that precious multiplier.

Freestyler(FS) - Absolute class, not only do (most of) these sound the business but they give you really good scores and look more psychadelic than a 60's tie-dye t-shirt. Its best to use these when your multiplier is high because as we all know the higher the multiplier the better the score. Tactically these are indispensable. If you get stuck on a hard track, you can deploy your FS and when it expires, hey-presto all those easier tracks have returned to be blasted once more. Also if you make a mistake you can deploy a FS and if you were quick enough, (ie. before the bar ends) you can save your multiplier. There are no real situations when you should not use a FS, but as ever its usually best to save them till you have a high multiplier.

That wraps up the Power-ups and gives me the opportunity to list a few general tips that i feel, will help anyone who plays Amplitude.

It sounds so obvious its painful, but, practice, practice, practice and you will conquer all.

Don't use the shoulder buttons (heh sly digs at Gallagher and Q there) as you will never be as good as the three finger/three button masterminds (Big ups to me and Loothas). I am joking here people, what I mean to say is find the style that suits you, and stick with it.

Anyone attempting Robot Rockerz on Insane, hide all sharp objects and other potentially lethal weapons before commencing play.

This is a bit silly but also true. Dont play with cold hands. They seize up and mistakes are made.

Finally, write in to Harmonix and demand that they release another sequel.
Check the dictionary Harmonix.. how about Wavlength? I'm all for a trilogy!

Well thanks for reading this (thats assuming you did) and happy tippety tapping.
