Retro Game Walkthroughs for NFL Street (PlayStation 2)
Submitted By: Simon Says
Much of NFL Street's depth comes from the challenge mode, in which you can create your own team of players and pit them against the best in the NFL. Here are a few hints, tips and suggestions on how to beat the pros.

Creating your team.

1. Dressing your team is free. If they are all wearing a prominant team colour your less likely to be confused as to who to follow and who to avoid in a game situation.

2. Run the ball. To begin with running the ball is the safe option. Create a runner who has high speed and carry attributes. That way he is less likely to fumble the ball. Your running back is your star. Don't skimp on his stats. If you give him a good catching attribute he can be a passing threat out of the backfield too.

3. Make your QB reasonably speedy too. The option features heavily in this game and sometimes it's best for him to keep it. Give him a reasonable arm for those fourth and long situations too.

4. Instead of filling a roster with recievers, use defensive backs instead. Make sure they have decent speed, coverage and catching abilities and they will do a good enough job doubling up as recievers.

5. Offense wins games, defense wins championships. You need to make sure that everyone on your team can tackle, and if they're not rushing the QB they need to be able to cover too.

6. Suggested Positions
1 OL 1 DL 1 RB 1 QB 1 LB 2 DB

Completing Challenges

1. Pick your challenge. Some challenges are easier than others, and you don't have to do them all right away. If your defense isn't up to much don't pick the challenges where you have to shut out the other team. Similarly, if you don't have great DBs don't do challenges that require several interceptions. Those ones can wait.

2. If you have to beat a team in a time limit then don't waste time defending a short field. So long as the game isn't on the line you might as well let them score and get the ball back in your hands. Similarly, letting in scores often yields fewer gamebreaker points for the other team than a long drawn out drive.

3. Challenge Points. You only have a limited amount of challenge points, and once they're gone you have to beat the four teams in each division. Use them wisely. Go for challenges that you know you can complete whilst your team are rookies. Wait for the vetrans before you try challenges that need mad or legendary skills.

4. Walk Away. Every time you attempt a challenge you use challenge points. Know when it's time to walk away.

5. If you have to get a certain number of challenge points in a single play pick it carefully. I recommend the step back (screen) play. You can gain extra points by pump faking, then completing a style pass. Your recievers should block for you allowing a little show boating, and once you've past them you can pitch it backwards for yet more points.

6. Know your situation. If you have to score with a pass and a run, and your've already scored the running TD, when you break away on a long run step out of bounds before you score again and ruin all your chances.

Calling the Offense

1. 2nd and short. It's second and short. You might want to take a couple of shots down field before picking up a relatively easy first down running the ball if those passes don't go to plan. Don't throw a pick though!

2. Two point opportunities. Do your maths and know when you need to go for two, and when you can run it in for one.

3. High Completion Passes. Pick passing plays that are easy to complete, like screens, flats and quick outs. To begin with, just pass to set up the run. Play Action passes work quite well too.

4. Know When to Pitch. Don't throw and hope because it'll be fumbled or stolen. Plan your pitches carefully to use them to maximum effect. Make sure that a defender is committed to tackling the current ball carrier, but don't wait so long that it gets fouled up in the tackle.

5. Unless you've boosted your recievers carrying skills don't even think about running the reverse. He will (and I mean WILL) cough it up.

6. Use a little motion to find out if the D is in man or zone. If no defenders go with the reciever its zone. Move your man to flood one area and get a quick few yards.

7. Think about the field. What is the surface suited to? Can your RB cut or will he fall down? Can your WRs get seperation?

Calling the Defense

1. Zone Coverage. If your DBs are still a little slow call zone coverages rather than man. Your guys won't be able to keep up with the pros one on one just yet.

2. Bring the pressure. Hurry the QB and get him to pitch or pass the ball early. Cut out his options.

3. Reading the Option. If a guys is following the ball carrier and not blocking he's waiting for a pitch. Don't make all your guys run after the ball, hold someone back to cover the option guy.

4. Carefully how you use the big turbo hits. Make sure you'll hit him, or its a last ditch attempt. Otherwise they'll be putting up six points.

5. All out blitzing won't suit the option game. You'll lose track of the ball before you can say "who dat, who dere?"

Showboating

1. It quickly becomes the key to the game. Do it when its safe as often as possible. Don't do it too near defenders or you'll turn the ball over.

Game Breakers

1. Use game breakers on D. That's where you really have to work as a team and can't rely on a single star player.

Hope that was helpful ; )
