Like all the Pokemon games, it starts with a little intro. Except this time it's made by a guy called Prof. Birch. He'll explain everything about the world of Pokemon, then he'll ask whether you're a boy or a girl. (Tip: choose the girl if you're a girl and boy if you're a boy to make things easier) Type in your name, and Prof. Birch will tell you that you're adventure is about to start, yaddda yadda, and so on.
LITTLEROOT
First, you'll be riding in the back of a truck, and soon the truck stops, and you are in your new home. Walk out, and your mom will tell you that this is your new home, and she'll guide you inside the house. When you enter, you will see Machoke moving your stuff into the house. Cool huh? Then she'll tell you to go upstairs to your room and set the clock your dad gave you. Set it, withdraw the potion from your PC, and go back down. Your mom will call you to the TV cuz you're dad is on, but you miss it. Then she'll tell you to got to Prof. Birch's house next door to get your pokemon.
When you enter his house, his wife will tell you that they have a son/daughter about your age upstairs. Go up, talk to him/her, and she'll offer to catch your pokemon for you. But then he/she rushes off for something important. Go to Prof. Birch's lab, and his assintant will tell you that he isn't there. Head to the norht of town, and a little kid will tell you he hears someone screaming down the road. It turns out to be Prof. Birch, and he's being chased by a wild pokemon. He'll tell you to get a pokeball from his bag and help him. I recommend choosing Treecko since he's quite powerful throughout the game. Then, you'll have a battle with the wild pokemon which is in fact a Poochyena. It's fairly easy to beat, and Prof. Birch thanks you for saving him, then he leads you back to his lab.
He then gives you the pokemon you chose, and tell you to go to Route 103 to talk to his son/daughter.
OLDALE
Talk to everyone in this town, and they all give you advice on how to raise your pokemon. Talk to the lady in the apron, and she'll lead you to the pokemart and give you a free potion. Charge your pokemon, cause you're gonna be battling zigzagoons, wurmples and poochyenas all the way. And don't bother going to the left of town, cause a guy will be blocking your way saying he's sketching pokemon footprints, which are actually his own footprints. Your pokemon should at least be level 7 by now, because when you head to the north of town, Prof. Birch's son/daughter will be there, and he/she will challlenge you to a battle, once you beat him/her, he/she will tell you to head back to the lab.
LITTLEROOT *again*
Go to Prof. Birch's lab, and he'll give you your pokedex. Then his daughter/son will give you 5 pokeballs, and now you're ready for your adventure!! Go out, head north. But your mom will stop you, cause she'll give you running shoes to make your adventure quicker cause you won't get your bike till later. To activate your running shoes, press the B button.
The pokemon I recommend capturing is Poochyena*the little black dog* because it's quite strong, and it's strong against psychic. Plus when it evolves, it turns into Mighthyena, who's special ability is INTIMIDATE, which cuts the enemy's attack. By cut, I mean lowers. On the side note, Poochyena evolves into Mighthyena at LV. 18.
Oh yeah, you'll be battling some trainers, but they're all quite easy to beat.
PETALBURG
Stock up on items, and heal your pokemon. And don't even try going out of town yet, cause a guy will stop you telling you to check out the gym. When you do, the gym leader is actually your dad, and when you talk to him, a kid will come to him, asking for a pokemon. Your dad will then ask you to accompany the kid to catch his pokemon. do so, and when you're done, the kid will thank you and so will your dad. BTW, the kid's name is Wally.
The pokemon you should try catching is Ralts. This is the pokemon Wally caught. Ralts will only know growl at first, but eventually, Ralts becomes more powerful near the end of the game. Ralts evolves into Kirlia at LV. 20, and evolves into Gardevoir at LV. 30.
Now, you can head out of town to the Petalburg woods, fight all the trainers. Another Pokemon you should try catching is Taillow. Taillow is Pidgey's successor, so it comes pretty handy throughout the game. Taillow evolves into Swellow at LV. 22.
In the woods, fight the trainers(most of them will have bug pokemon, so Taillow comes pretty handy right about now) you'll then meet a guy in the woods, asking if you saw a Shroomish, then you'll get jumped by a Team Aqua grunt. ( note: Team aqua is your enemy in Sapphire, and Team Magma is in Ruby. The version I'm playing is Sapphire) then the guy begs you to protect him, and the team aqua grunt fights you. He's going to have a poochyena, and he's quite easy to beat. Defeat him, and he runs away. The guy you just saved then thanks you, and gives you a great ball, and rushes off to Rustboro. The pokemon you should try to catch is Slakoth, because he'll come in handy later. Fight the trainers, and the pokemon, and head out of the woods. You'll fight more trainers, and you'll participate in your first 2 on 2 battle. You can also now get berries from the plants planted in the soil. and try talking to the girls in the flower shop because they'll give you something to help the berries you planted grow quickly.
RUSTBORO
Heal your pokemon first, and go the Cutter's house to get the HM Cut. It's in this town where you'll get to battle for your first badge. By now, your pokemon should be level 14-16, because the gym leader's pokemon are the same level and very tough. The gym leader is Roxanne, and she'll be using rock pokemon. Her pokemon will include Geoudude, and Nosepass ( a pokemon that looks like one of the heads on Easter Island only uglier and creepier). Her pokemon are tough to beat, especially her nosepass, because it knows Rock Tomb, a powerful move that lowers your defense, but can miss a lot. Watch out for her nosepass, and be sure to kill swiftly, cause she'll be using potions, a lot. Defeat her for the Rock Badge, and she'll give you the TM Rock Tomb.
When you get out of the gym, you'll see the Aqua grunt member run out of a building, and the guy you saved earlier. Recharge your pokemon, and go to the trainer's school to get Quick Claw, which allows your pokemon to strike first. and now, your Slakoth comes in handy, cause the house next to gym has a little girl who will trade you Slakoth for a Makuhita. Do so, because Makuhita is a powerful fighting pokemon, who becomes even more powerful once it evolves into Hariyama at LV. 24. The only downside is, you can't change the name.
Go north-east of town, and you'll meet the guy you saved earlier. He'll tell you that the Aqua Grunt stole some goods, and asks you to return them. He'll tell you that the Aqua Grunt when into the cave far east of town. Fight the trainers along the way, and when you near the cave's entrance, an old guy will beg you to save his precious pokemon from the Aqua Grunt. Go in the cave, and battle the Aqua Grunt. Once you defeat him, he'll give you the goods, and the old guy thanks you for saving his pokemon. Return the goods to the guy, and he'll bring you to the president of his company. The president will then ask you to deliver a letter, and the goods, and gives you a pokenav, which contains the map, list of trainers you battled, and the condition of your pokemon. Head out of Rustboro, and into the cottage, the old guy will be there, and offers you a free boat ride to the next city for saving his pokemon's life.
PHEW!!!! That is so long.....if you want the complete*almost conplete* walkthrough of the game, you're gonna have to email me, cause believe me, it gets longer. ^_^

ii. Version History
-------------------
1.0(17/7/03): Started the walkthrough. This version goes as far as Petalburg.
1. Welcome to Pokémon Sapphire!
-------------------------------
Welcome to another brilliant Pokémon RPG! OK, so you've started a new game. First get a boring lecture from Professor Birch, decide if you're going to be a boy or a girl, then choose your name. Once you've done all this, you're ready to begin! Enjoy!
2. Littleroot Town
------------------
You start off in a moving van. Just wait a few seconds until light appears at the side. Walk into it to get out. You're in a town which strangely resembles Pallet town from the first three games. Your mom comes out of a house and greets you. She tells you where you are, and beckons you inside. She tells you your room is upstairs and to set your clock. Ignore the Machokes and go up. Go to your PC, press A and choose Item Storage. Withdraw a potion. It'll come in handy later. Then press A to your clock and set it. Your mom comes in, talks a bit of nonsense and goes back out. When you come down she is at the TV. She calls you over. You missed a program about your dad. Boo hoo. She also tells you about Proffesor Birch. Don't bother with him yet. Go outside and go next door. A woman greets you and tells you her daughter/son is upstairs. Go up and talk to her/him. She/he introduces themselves as May (If you're a boy) / Brendan (If you're a girl). (This walkthrough presumes that you're a boy). She babbles on, and remembers that she has to help her dad, Prof. Birch. She leaves. Go out and head north to leave the town. Prof. Birch is being chased by Poochyena. Go over to his bag and press A. There will be three Pokémon in it. Choose carefully. Whichever one you pick will be your first Pokémon. There's Treecko (Grass), Torchic
(Fire) and Mudkip (Water). They're all fairly evenly matched, so it doesn't really matter who you choose. When you're finished, you get
into a battle with Poochyena. Pushover, really. You should win
in two or three turns. Prof. Birch thanks you and takes you to his lab. He admires your Pokémon skills (unless you're absolutely tactless and you lost to the weak pup) and gives you the Pokémon for keeps. Yay! He tells you to go to May on route 103. So leave Littleroot and head north.
3. Oldale Town
--------------
So now you're in probably the worst town in the game. Nothing much to do. Go to the person in the white top. She'll lead you to the mart and give you a potion. Nothing much in the mart, just potions, antidotes, parlyz heals and awakenings. Potions and par. heals are the ones you need most. Train your Pokémon up to about Level 6 or 7 then go up to Route 103 and get ready to face May.
4. Rival - 1st Battle
---------------------
Nothing much to see on this route so just go up to fight May. When she sees that you have a Pokémon, she asks to battle. Naturally, you can't refuse. As you can see she has chosen the Pokémon whose
type is strong against yours, so if you picked Torchic, she has Mudkip. If you've Treecko, she has Torchic and if you got Mudkip, she has Treecko. The type difference doesn't effect this battle, but it makes future battles hard. Not the hardest battle in the world you should see. She says she's going to head back home and goes off.
5. Return to Littleroot
-----------------------
When you go back to Oldale Town, May is waiting for you. She repeats that she's going home and goes off again. Go back to Littleroot Town and go into Prof. Birch's lab. He congratulates you on beating May (Not that it's the greatest acheivement in the world). He
then gives you a Pokédex and explains what it's for. Then May gives you five Pokéballs. When you try to leave Littleroot, your Mom stops
you. She admires your Pokémon and gives you running shoes. These are useful. Hold B to make you go faster. Don't use them while trying to dodge trainers though. They'll hear you and look at you. Go
back to Oldale Town where you might want to get some Pokéballs
(the Mart stock them now). You may have noticed last time you were here that some idiot wouldn't let you go west because he was sketching footprints. He's finally realised they were his own footprints
and is now letting you go by. The first trainer you find is just a youngster with a L5 Zigzagoon. Not too hard. There's also a bug
catcher with two L4 Wurmples. Soon enough, you'll see a patch of
soil with two trees. As you might have guessed, they give you berries. But this time, they don't give you berries once a day. In Ruby & Sapphire they shed two or three berries at once, and then the tree disappears. But you can plant berries and grow new trees. You'll need to water them, but you'll find out about that later. For now,
head west. There'll be a lass with two L4 Zigzagoons who you can
dodge, then you're in Petalburg.
6. Petalburg City
-----------------
When you enter this city, you think 'Oh great! There's a gym'. Not so fast. Don't go there yet. The mart is well stocked so you might as well go there. Nothing much else to see here. If you try to leave the town, a boy stops you and brings you to the gym. If you had gone into any of the houses, you'd have found out that the gym leader's name is Norman and he moved his family in from Johto. Sound familiar? Get ready to meet your dad.
7. Wally & Dad
--------------
So you've entered the gym and you're having a boring chat with your dad, when a small brown haired boy comes in and asks for a pokémon. Your dad knows him. He's called Wally. Your Dad is a nice guy, so he lends Wally a Zigzagoon, gives him a pokéball and makes you watch the little idiot catch a pokémon. He catches a Ralts and goes back to the gym. You get credit for it. Yay! No one gives you items for it. Aaw. So now you get to challenge your dad, right? Wrong. He's a bit vain and he thinks he's to strong for you, so he won't let you challenge him until you have four badges. Now you're ready to go to
Rustboro City and get your first badge.
That's it for this version. I would write more but, I just couldn't be bothered. The next one will go up to the first Archie battle, so just be patient. See ya!
