Retro Game Walkthroughs for champion of norrath (PlayStation 2)
Submitted By: mikelar
Champions of Norrath is an enjoyable and enthralling RPG. However, some levels or bosses prove to be quite difficult to defeat at times. As such, I've created a handy (almost)pocket-sized walkthrough which should aid you through the entire game.

Just find the chapter you're stuck on and you're away.

== Act I ==

After speaking with the elf commander and the shop owner, you're told that you need to clear the elf treetop base of goblins. A counter will appear at the top of the screen indicating how many more goblins are left to kill. Walk north in a clockwise motion around the treetops making sure not to miss any goblins. Don't be afraid to back off if you become overwhelmed, the other elves in the treetops will finish any goblins you lead to them. Once they're dead you can descend down the lift.

More elf soldiers will block your path here and will inform you that you'll need to kill the goblins in their cave-hideout in order to retrieve lost supplies. Make your way to the cave, it is down a path leading off from where you speak to the elf soldiers. Inside the cave, they'll be goblin soldiers and goblin shaman. Avoid becoming overwhelmed by hordes of goblins by retreating to a safe distance if it gets a bit much. If you can, use a bow to whittle down the bigger groups before going in for the kill. Goblin shaman are weak and should be targeted first. Once the cave is cleared, you will be told to return to the elf soldiers outside.

Once outside, you'll meet the elf soldiers at a gate who tell you that they need it opened. Follow the river to an entrance at the foot of the tree - inside is the lock to open the gate. Again, goblin soldiers and shaman are the main foe inside so use previous tactics. Work you're way through the cave corridors until you reach the lock which opens the gate. They'll be a boss guarding the lock, he's not too tough if you can weaken him first with ranged weapons or spells. After he's dead, unlock the gate.

Back outside, return to where you opened the gate. The elves will have fought back some goblins and orcs. Follow the area until you reach an elf solider who is pinned down under catapult fire. He'll tell you that they can't reach the captain until the firing stops. As such you'll need to take out the 10 catapults littered around the area. There are a few left and right of the area being bombed and there are one or two you should have passed if you didn't already destroy them. To stop the catapults from firing, use the action button near the ammo crates which will explode destroying the catapult. Once all 10 are destroyed, follow the path onwards to the captain.

The captain informs you that you need to retrieve a scroll in order to progress their assault against the orc/goblin hordes. Enter the dungeon the captain is standing next to, the dungeon will be populated with spiders. Keep your distance if you can as they are poisonous else make sure you have plenty of health potions. Continue following the corridors until you reach the orc commander. You'll get into a fight with him here. Try to avoid his melee attack as it is powerful. If you need to get away, run up the stairs, then down the other stairs in a circuit motion. Once he's dead, retrieve the scroll and return to the elf captain.

The elf captain informs you that he'll decode the plans. In the meantime, he asks you to kill a shaman nearby who's be causing trouble for his army. Find the shaman and kill him along with his army and return to the elf captain. He'll inform you of the plans the orcs had. You'll need to return to the spider dungeon where a scout will be waiting near the entrance. He'll have discovered a secret passage way. Lead him through the next dungeon making sure he doesn't get kill. Once at the doorway, he'll open it and leave you on your way. Inside you'll fight another boss, this time a giant spider. The best tactic is to stay close because it's web shot sucks you in anyway, try to attack the back of the spider never staying in front of it for too long. Repeat this tactic until the spider is dead where you can then follow the orcs path.

== Act II ==

Upon entering the dwarf village you'll see that the place is swarming with giant ants. Although not difficult to defeat alone, the ants start to do real damage when a group of them gather. When fighting them, concentrate at one at a time using spells that weaken when possible. You first mission in this city is to stop the ant swarm. You're asked to go into the ants nest to kill the queen. Be careful once inside the ant nest because ants will come out of the burrows in the walls meaning you might get caught in an ambush. Proceed with caution clearing each burrow as you go. Once you get to the queens layer, she'll start flying around whilst other ants attack you. It is possible to move to the opposite side of the room where the queen is to stop her attacks whilst you concentrate on killing the ants. Once they're dead, your best bet in defeating the queen is to use ranged weapons as she moves pretty fast. Try to stay in front of her for long and defend if she traps you in a corner. Once defeated, you can exit the nest.

Once back out in the town, speak to all the dwarves to find your next mission - to fix a broken pipe in the lava fields. You should have also been told to look for the daughter of one of the dwarves in the lava fields. Head over to the fields. Once there, make sure to keep on the rock path as lava will kill you instantly, make your way following this path over to an engineer dwarf who tells you how to fix the pipe. Descend further once you find the ladder leading down from the lava fields, down here is where you'll find the component needed to fix the pipe. Head back up to the lava fields and look for another dwarf who will be standing next to a tractor like vehicle. Talk to him and he'll let you ride the vehicle. Drive the tractor across the large lava lake to where the broken pipe is. Fix the pipe by placing the component and return to the dwarvern city. Speak to the ship builder who will thank you for fixing the pipe. However, he needs protection from a vampire so it's back down into the lava fields where a wizard will speak to you. Pass through the entrance he opens and you'll come across the missing girl. She'll explain that she's not leaving without her kittens so you'll have to find them first. There is a kitten at each point of the compass, simply walk up to the kitten to get it to follow you and take it back to the girl. Once they are all returned, you can head back to man who reported his daughter missing for a reward, it's a gem that protects against vampires. Hand this gem over to the ship builder, he'll make a ship but will inform you that you're going to need a navigator.

Head back down to where you met the girl who lost her kittens, on this level, you can descend even further, do so to reach the battle ground of the undead. Battle your way through the skeletons making sure not to become outnumbered until you reach the vampires castle. Inside, you'll meet the vampires apprentice. She'll inform you that she needs to resist the urge to feed on humans by eating a plant called a bloodvine. She informs you that you must retrieve it for her. Follow the path she directs you in. You'll pass a dwarf who you need to free - he'll be your navigator - and you'll end up outside where, across a bridge lays a bloodvine. Return it to her and she'll show you the way to where the vampire lord and the orc are having a conversation. Listen in before heading onwards to meet the vampire. He'll trigger a trap sending you into a small dungeon, fight your way out and back up to the vampire lord. A fight will ensue, keep on the move as he fly's in out of nowhere to attack, once he lands, get as many hits in as possible before moving away again. Once killed, you can take a prison key to where you saw the dwarf being held captive. Free him, protect his path out of the castle and he'll act as the navigator on the boat.

== Act III ==

After being told your ship was wrecked during a storm, you find yourself stranded on a tropical island. Speak to the man nearest, he'll inform you that the orc also landed on the island seeking a horn of great power. Head to the side of the island where you can cross through the shallows. Enter the caves on the next island, kill the slavers inside and rescue the shop owner. He'll inform you that his brother was also captured and asks you free him. He then returns to the 2nd island to restock his shop, head through the broken portal.

On the other side, you'll see a mermaid sitting on a rock. She asks you to find a conch shell she's looking for which you can give to her later. Follow the narrow path around the island to find your navigator who's been captured and imprisoned (again). He tells you though, that the cage isn't actually locked, the only reason he hasn't left is because of the slavers on the island. Your next task then is to kill these slavers to the navigator will leave the cage. Walk clockwise around the island killing any slavers you meet before hiding into the caves on the island. Kill the remaining slavers hiding in the caves, the counter will inform you how many more are left to kill.

Once all the slavers are dead, return to the imprisoned navigator and he'll walk out and over to a small island near the 2nd island. Go and pay him a visit and he'll inform you that he's found a conch shell. Take the shell over to the mermaid and she'll reward you with the ability to breathe underwater. Next to where the mermaid is sitting is a cave which leads underwater, head in there and make your way through the corridors. On the side of the underwater cave is a sprawling desert.

Out in the desert, make your way to the temple entrance which is right if your walking downwards. Inside, kill all the guards and speak to the mummy, he'll tell you that you need to douse the fires that block the entrance behind him. Leave the temple and use the portal to be teleported to another temple. Inside you need to douse the 19 fires. Defeat the guards as you walk around putting the fires out, once all are extinguished, you can leave the temple and will appear back in the desert. Head back over to the mummy temples, speak to him and he'll ask that before he let's you pass, he wishes to die in an honourable manner, this means you need to fight him. The best tactic is to get in close as quickly as possible making sure not to get distracted by the guards he summons. Concentrate your attacks on the mummy and you'll soon defeat him.

Head through the door the mummy was guarding and you'll appear on an platform on the sky, make your way across the platform being careful of the giants - they're the toughest - until you reach the sky giant, he's guarding a prisoner who knows where the horn is. You're forced to fight him at this point. Use and spells or ranged weapons that slow him down like fire or poison, before going inclose to finish him off. Once dead, free the prisoner and he'll tell you where the horn is. Follow him to the portal.

Next you'll end up in an icy plane, be weary of the bear-like creates as they're both fast and powerful. The prisoner tells you that you'll need a raft to reach the horn so search the 5 wrecked ships frozen into the land for pieces of a raft to build. Once you've collected them all, return to the prisoner and he'll explain ho you can now retrieve the horn. Walk up the newly opened path and sail out to the underwater caverns.

In the caverns, explore the corridors leading to the horn. The skeleton pirates are slow but still strong so make sure not to get caught out by becoming surrounded. Once you've reached the final room in the caverns you'll have to fight the lobster create - the guardian of the horn. As with the spider you defeated before, try to position yourself behind the lobster at all times this way you avoid any melee attacks. Be persistent enough and the lobster will soon be defeated leaving you to retrieve the horn.

Head back to the 1st island to where you first met the lonely man. Hand him the horn and he'll reveal his true form. On using the horn, he summons the legions of the undead army.

== Act IV ==
Appearing in the underworld, the first thing to do is to speak to the nearby shopkeeper. His prices are ridiculous but he explains how he'll lower them if you find seven curiosities scatted in the dungeons beneath the city. There are several entrances to the dungeon so you should explore them all. There are 5 curiosities in the dungeons and 2 more above ground which are only accessible by passing through the dungeons. Retrieve all the curiosities and return them to the shopkeeper, he'll hand you a shard of pure hatred. You'll need another one of these to enter the plane of hate. Once you have this one, walk through the town and a new gate will open and guards will appear. Defeat them and pass through the newly opened gate.

Inside, you're forced to participate in a mini-guantlet. First defeat the 4 guards that appear, then 4 giants orcs will appear. These are slightly tougher so make use of the room you have to evade their attacks. Once these are defeated, you'll have to battle a giant lizard. It's important to keep your distance as all it's attacks revolve around you being close. When you do attack, attack from behind to avoid it's powerful hits. Once dead, you'll find the second hate shard on it's body. Leave the arena and head left, place the two shards into the skull heads to unlock the door to the hanging guardians.

Inside, follow the path killing any of the mutant creates as you go. Avoid the spike traps as they do a little damage if you fall in. Find the entrance to the plain of hate and descend the stairs.

== Act V ==
Watch the opening cut scene to be brought up to date with what's happening. After the minion has fired a 'body-arrow' at you, the bridge collapses and your sent to the plane of air.

Once on the plane of air, speak to the woman standing next to you for details of what happened. She also has weapons and armour etc. to sell you so stock up on health potions. Once you have what you need, ask to be returned to the plane of hate. Follow the path defeating the minions as you go until you're standing in front of the castle once more. Here you'll have to fight the minion. Since he uses a bow the best tactic is to keep moving. If your close enough, attack him whilst he loads the bow then quickly move away. Don't stand too close for too long as he has a powerful melee attack. Once defeated, the castle entrance will open.

Inside, the aim is to rescue the souls wandering around. Get three to follow you and walk down any of the corridors in the cauldron room. Make sure not to let any guards attack the souls, they can take a few hits but are still weak so protect them at all costs. Follow the corridor until you reach a portal which will teleport you with the souls back to the air plane. Repeat this process until the woman on the air plane tells you that you've rescued enough souls. Once she's told you, you can then enter the previously barred door in the cauldron of souls.
Head down the stairs and you'll finally meet Innoruuk along with the imprisoned woman you're trying to rescue. There's no use in trying to attack him as you can't do any damage yet. The aim here is to destroy the four nodes to release the prisoner from her shackles. Keep the most distance you can between yourself and Innoruuk whilst attack each of the nodes, they need three or four hits before being destroyed. Once all four are destroyed, move to where the woman is and she'll teleport you out.

Back on the air plane, the newly freed woman will explain you need to be totally cleansed of hate in order to defeat Innoruuk. Go to the shining orb on the air plane and activate it to become cleansed. Ask to be transported back for the last showdown.

Once Innoruuk has finished speaking, you'll have to fight him. The best tactic is to distance yourself from him. If you have any spells such as disease or poison, use them as they slow him down. Also, if you can, cast summon skeleton as this distracts him from attacking you. If you do enough damage, he'll drop his hammer. This makes him slightly weaker in a melee battle be remain cautious if your going in for the kill. After a while his hammer will return which is when you should back off again. If you're low on health then use ranged weapons and spells but if you can handle it, attack from the sides.

Repeat these tactics in order to successfully defeat Innoruuk. Once he's defeated, you can watch him explode - satisfying.

Now just sit back and enjoy the ending!
