Retro Game Walkthroughs for Fight Night 3 (Xbox 360)

Another quick guide from me that should get you started with the basics and get through the career mode winning most of your fights.

CAREER MODE

To begin with in career mode I'd recommend creating your own fighter - far more enjoyable than to have someone who looks like a famous fighter, as well as picking how your fighter looks you can also decide on their boxing style and physical attributes.

There are a few options here to play about with and decide the boxing style you want

Boxing stance (Orthodox or southpaw i.e. right handed or left handed)
His base stance (Balanced, speed, power, mummy or wild)
Punch style (basic, fast, slugger and lethal uppercuts) and
Blocking style (Classic and Cross).

To get yourself started I'd go for Orthodox, balanced, basic or fast and classic - after spending some time on the game you may want to experiment with the different options to see if any suit your style of play better. After deciding the physical look of your fighter you then have to give your fighter physical attributes you have 200 points available and can set each one to a maximum of 30 to begin with. I'd recommend just setting all of them to 25 to get a fair all round setting to begin with.
The attributes are:

Power- The power behind your punches
Speed- The speed which you throw punches
Agility- The speed of movement and leaning
Stamina- The rate of energy loss and gain
Chin- The shield against head punches
Body- The shield against body punches
Heart- The rate of health recovery and also how easy it is for you boxer to
get up after a knockdown
Cuts- Protection from cuts and swelling.

For most fights you can select who you wish to fight and then sign a contract with them. It is good to scout the fighter and see their physical attributes, you'll tend to find if your opponent has a high power and stamina rating then they are likely to be a more difficult opponent.

TRAINING
Once you sign a contract for a fight you are then able to train your fighter. First you select the trainer - to begin with you can only select the free coach or the burger king if you have unlocked them in a previous career.

You then must decide on which training method to do to increase your preferred attribute points. There are four training modes, below describes a little about each one and the pros and cons of each. Each rating decrease will only be a loss of 1 point to that attribute.

Combo Dummy
Here you have to punch a body dummy, you must correctly follow the correct sequence of punches to maximise your score. Once you get above the required score then you will have achieved the maximum points boost to your physical attributes.

Ratings increased= Speed, Agility, Chin, Body
Ratings Decreased= Power, Stamina, Heart, Cuts

Heavy bag
Here you have to punch a heavy bag, you either have to punch the bag high or low so it is rather easy and lots of points can be obtained easily.

Ratings Increased= Chin, Body, Heart, Cuts
Ratings Decreased= Power, Speed, Agility, Stamina
Weightlifting
With this training mini-game you have to raise weights using the analogue sticks, a red zone appears on each side and you must mode one side at a time and get the marker within the red zone to score points.

Ratings Increased= Power, Stamina, Heart, Cuts
Ratings Decreased= Speed, Agility, Chin, Body

Sparring
There is also the option to practice in the ring, you don't gain any extra attribute points but it can be useful if you decide to change any of your boxer’s settings such as your style or stance etc.

You can auto train if you like but I would decide against this as you only get half of the available points. I'd also recommend trying to do the weightlifting more than the other training methods as the more power and stamina your fighter has then it is usually easier to inflict more damage quickly on your opponent.

FINDING IT HARD?
If you are finding the fights hard then you can change the difficulty level in the options menu. I'd also recommend that you turn the hud on, as it shows your fighters health and stamina. Now you can monitor your fighter’s stamina level so that you don't tire your fighter out too quickly by constantly throwing punches. Also more damage will be done to your opponent when the stamina bar is at its highest.

CONTROLS
I found that setting the controller up on config3 gave the best control settings for the game, play around with the other settings in a practice game or the sparring mode in training to find the one that suits you best.

FIGHT STORE
With each win you will be awarded cash which you can use in the fight store. To begin with your choice is limited and many items are only available when you win certain events or belts. Each item usually will also increase a certain physical attribute by either 5%, 10%, 15% or 20%. So it is worth buying items when you can afford them to increase certain areas of your fighter’s abilities.
You are also able to buy tattoos and various punching styles for your fighter as well as illegal moves and taunts.

ADVICE
Vary the style of punches you throw and try throw a few combinations of punches when possible. If you weaken an area of your opponent it is worth trying to focus on that area to make it worse.

If you have a quick and agile opponent then using body shots as well as shots to the head will slow their movement down and allow you to string better combinations together.

If you have a powerful opponent then try to throw a few punches and then move away and around them to avoid their powerful counter punches.

CREATE A CHAMP
You can also create your own boxers for use in the other game modes in the create a champ option on the main menu. Here you can decide everything from the looks and the abilities of your fighter to the shorts, gloves and equipment they have. You can make some quite realistic looking fighters and famous people – or even yourself but some areas are quite limited. It is useful though if you’re favourite old fighter is missing, or you want to add you and your mates into the game.

You should note that there doesn't appear to be an option to save your fighters, when you are on the list of your created fighter’s then press the blue X button and save your profile. This should save all your created fighters. You can also go back and edit any created fighters at any time.

ONLINE MODE
Fed up of taking on CPU controlled boxers then head online. You can take part in ranked and unranked matches and you'll find many different styles of boxers from those who just want an all out slug fest to those who think about the fight and play with tactics and skill.

Hope this walkthrough has given you enough pointers and tips to play through the career mode and become the greatest fighter.
