Day of the tentacle is the sequel to Manic mansion; a very old adventure game which can be played in this game (see getting the game to work for details). Bernard (presumably) the only person to return for the sequel accompanied by 2 of his new friends: med student Laverne and Rock player Hoagie. What starts off as a rescue mission to save the tentacles soon turns into a rescue mission to save each other and the world…

The walkthrough will go through getting the game to work on your computers (if you aren’t able to do so yet), hints and tips as to beating this game, the list of items you can and finally the walkthrough itself if you’re really stuck on this game.

[GETTING THE GAME TO WORK]
---------------------------------
Gamers who decided to buy a copy of the re-released classic Lucas arts game may discover that the game might find trouble getting it to work despite stating its compatible with all windows OS. The problem is Lucas arts hasn’t bothered to either update coding as to make it compatible with the latest computers and nor has it provided the Emulator that makes the game work on modern PC.

For those of you who haven’t got the game working yet on your PC, here’s what you should do:

1. Go to www.scummvm.org and download the latest Scummvm emulator. Which makes all old Lucas arts (among other developers) adventure games work again.

2. Once installed, explore the CD and copy and paste these files to your hard drive:

Monster.sou
DOTT000.SOU
DOTT001.SOU

As mentioned, you can play the original Manic Mansion game in DOTT. Normally, you can play it by using the computer in Weird Ed Edison’s room, but using the emulator you can’t. Instead, copy and paste all the files within the folder into your hard drive (DON’T just copy and paste the folder! Only the files or the emulator won’t understand).


3.Now you’re almost ready to play the game. Activate the emulator and select “add game” tab. It will tell you to select location of where the game maybe. Select the hard drive and it’ll automatically scan for your game. Once found it will create a profile, edit the options if you wish. Press ok to finish.

4.Now select the file and press start to begin playing DOTT. Press f5 to access the option menu of any game.

[ITEMS]
--------
Like all adventure games, Items are used to solve puzzles. The same applies here. In this section I will go over all the items that the player can pick up. I will provide a description of each item, the location and a hint as to the significance of each item (Some bigger then others). Who knows, the hints on the items section might help players complete the game without looking at the walkthrough…

NOTE: Items used to retrieve other items will be mentioned.

[Blanket]
Belongs to John Hancock and found on floor after the fireplace is lit. used to help acquire gold pen.

[Booboo-b-begone]
Correction fluid (or tipex as its also known) is located in the office in the draw in the present. Used to obtain cat to gain access to Dr Fred’s lab in the future.

[Book]
Located on Bernard at the start, the books contents are about the boring world of thermo dynamics. Incredibly boring and can put people to sleep if used. Required to obtain the dentures in the past.

[Box o’ laughs]
Found in the clown oozo in the present, it’s a voice box containing the voice of oozo the clown. Can be obtained be slashing the clown using scalpel knife. Used to win the best human contest.

[Bucket]
1 of 3 requirements needed to bring about the storm to charge super battery for hoagie. Located in the back room of the kitchen in the past.

[Brush]
1 of 3 1 of 3 requirements needed to bring about the storm to charge super battery for hoagie. Located inside the cupboard in the back room of the kitchen in the past.

[Can opener]
Carried by hoagie; the item is required to open the time capsule in the future.

[Cat]
A standard pet cat disguised as a skunk, the one in the future can be picked up and used to gain access to Dr Fred’s old lab in the future.

[Chateau de cheap]
An inferior wine that ages poorly and is required to create the super battery. Found in Ben franklins room upstairs (3rd room on the 2nd floor).

[Chattering teeth]
A set of mechanical teeth, they’re found in the present in the vat of teeth in the joke convention. To pick them up, the player must lure them into the grate nearby the chimney. Required to replace George Washington’s teeth.

[Cigar lighter]
Located on the table next to the cigar rep, required to light the exploding cigar in the past.

[Coffee]
Come in 2 variations, regular and decafe. Both located and used in the present in the kitchen coffee machine. The regular coffee is used to wake Dr Edison and decafe is used to put him asleep.

[Contract]
Located in Dr Fred Edison’s office safe in the present, it contains legal details concerning the rights to the manic mansion game. Required to obtain funds to buy super diamond.

[Crowbar]
Located outside in the present, its used to smash open the vending machine to acquire the quarters and the dime stuck on the piece of gum.

[Dentures]
Found in the past, this set of false and yellow teeth can be found in the horse in the past. Required in the future to win the best human contest.

[Dime(s)]
Dimes are American currency coins, there are 2 in the game and both are found in the present and in the reception area. The first is inside the telephone behind the front desk and the other is stuck in a piece of gum. Both are required to obtain the sweatshirt in the present.

[Diner certificate]
2 free tickets to the futures best restaurant: club tentacle. Obtained by winning the best human show and is used to bribe Kennel guard.

[Extension cord]
A long electrical wire, its used to connect Laverne’s Chron-o-john to the hamster generator and to power it. The cord is found in the second room on the second floor in the future.

[Fake barf]
A circular piece of plastic that can be used to fool people into believing that it is real barf. The item is located on the ceiling in the present and is required in the future to win the best human contest.

[Flag gun]
A joke item that releases a “bang” flag when fired. Item is Located in the second room upstairs in the present. Needed to obtain the cigar lighter downstairs.

[Fork]
Better known as a “threek” (comb) located on the kitchen table of the present, its used to help win the human contest in the future.

[Funnel]
A plastic funnel used to concentrate or filter liquids when required. Located in the washroom cupboard in the present, its used with another item to wake Dr Fred.

[Gum]
Located on the floor of the reception in the present, it has no purpose other then to confuse players.

[Gold pen]
1 of 3 items required for making super battery. Obtained by using the blanket.

[Hammers]
These sculpting hammers come in 2 variations: left and right handed. The left-handed hammer can be found in the past in the secret lab where it’s used to obtain the right handed hammer (which has no use) and alter the statue in nurse edna’s room in the present.

[Hamster]
Located in the present in weird Ed Edison’s room, it’s used in the future to charge up laverne’s chron-o-john in the future.

[Help wanted sign]
A lab assistant help wanted sign, located in the present behind the front window in reception. Used to obtain lab coat in the past.

[Invisible ink]
Bottle of joke black ink, when applied will disappear over sometime. Located in the second room on the second floor in the present time, its used to obtain the stamp. Try it on various people to see various expressions on people’s faces!

[Keys]
Located behind the door of the room with the sleeping conventioneer. Used to obtain the crowbar.

[Lab coat]
Located in Dr Edison’s lab in the past, the lab coat is needed to charge super battery. Obtained by using help wanted sign. Required to help get Hoagie power to super battery.

[Nametag]
A simple tag to identify each human contestant in the best human contest, the item is given to Laverne by the blue tentacle outside the kennels. The name tag is used to enter Laverne’s human into the show.

[Oil]
Salad oil, located in the kitchen next to the spaghetti its 1 of 3 items required to build the super battery.

[Paint]
A pot of red paint used both in the pass to free Laverne and in the present to rescue dr Edison from the IRS. Its located in the attic in the past.

[Quarters]
A massive stack of quarters, these are coins with a small value in American currency. The quarters can be found inside the vending machine in the present by using the crowbar. They are used to transport the sweater into the future.

[Roller-skates]
Found on the second room on the second floor in the future, item is used to move mummy to enter best human contest.

[Rope]
A strong rope, Used to pull items up and down the building in the present. The item can be found tying Dr Fred up when the IRS take him upstairs.

[Scalpel knife]
Initially carried by Laverne, its used to acquire the voice of Oozo the clown

[Soap]
1 of 3 requirements needed to bring about the storm to charge super battery for hoagie. Located in the maids cart.

[Spaghetti]
Found in the kitchen in the past, item is required to help win the best human competition in the future. When flushed, it becomes sticky noodles that are easily sculptured into interesting shapes.

[Super battery]
A super battery that was designed by Dr Fred Edison and required to return Hoagie to the present; several components are required to build it. The finished item is found on the shelf in dr Red Edison’s lab of the past.

[Stamp]
An incredibly old stamp dated 1778. Its 1 of the requirements needed to acquire the diamond for the chron-o-john

[Stamp book]
Located in weird Ed Edison’s room in the future after obtaining stamp, it serves no use to the player.

[Sweater]
Found in the room with the sleeping conventioneer in the present, its used to keep the hamster warm in the future and power up Laverne’s chron-o-john.

[Tape]
Found in the third room on the second floor in the present above the stereo, its required to find the combination of the safe holding contract.

[Tentacle disguise]
Located on the roof in the future, it allows Laverne to freely access the rest of the building without being challenged.

[Tentacle chart]
A large anatomy diagram of a tentacle, it’s found hanging on the wall in the doctor’s office in the future, used in the past to create Laverne’s disguise.

[Trophy]
A silver trophy awarded to the winner of the best human show. Serves no purpose at all.

[Vinegar]
Unlike most wines, chateau de Cheapo doesn’t age well. Instead of turning it into a fine wine, it ages into vinegar. Its 1 of 3 requirements to build the super battery and is Located in the time capsule in the future.

[Hints and tips]
------------------

Try and break a problem down into smaller parts, some objectives such as trying to get the gold for the battery can be very huge and you might have to think in several stages before its completed.

Use common sense! Some problems are simple and obvious and with common sense thinking, solutions can be extremely easy to come by. A common problem is complicating the situation. Try doing the simplest or the most likely action first before trying elaborate ideas!

Take your time scanning and investigating each room. By checking each room, you know what you can interact with and what each item is. Remember, some items are concealed inside draws, behind doors and among other areas. So comb them thoroughly.

Don’t forget to push/pull/use items, some puzzles can be solved without the need of an item and can open up a whole load of ideas and things you didn’t know about.

When in doubt, talk to the mummy! Although he doesn’t respond, he can help you significantly in 3 ways. Firstly, some puzzles revolve around interacting with the mummy. Second, the mummy helps players keep on track as to what they should be doing. Thirdly, and most importantly, it offers the solutions as to what you could do to solve certain problems. The mummy doesn’t tell you specifically how to do it, but certainly useful in telling you where to focus your attention to achieve a certain outcome.

Unlike most adventure games, most used item never disappears from the inventory. around 80% chance that most used items won’t be used again and can be ignored.

Any item that can’t be flushed is usually a sign that the unflushable item is used in that era.

[WALKTHROUGH FOR DOTT]

Whilst DR Fred gives you the overall objectives to the game, the tasks themselves can be broken down into several key critical phases in the game. For those of you who can’t solve the puzzles using the small hints of significance for each item, here’s the walkthrough to the entire game.

[Task 1:Getting started]
----------------------
Upon arriving to Dr Fred’s residence use Bernard, pick up the FLIER in the rack and the DIME hanging from the telephone. Head into the office and open the table draw. Inside you will find the BOO-BOO BEGONE. A SWISS BANK ACCOUNT also lies on the table. Pick both items up, head back to reception and open grandfather clock and use the “walk” function to enter the grandfather clock to save the tentacles.

[Task 2: finding super battery plans]
------------------------------------
Right from the start only Bernard is available. Bernard will eventually get stuck without the help of his friends. So lets try and contact Hoagie in the past. The only way to do that is to find the plans of the super battery. Use Bernard and head to the notice board in the lab and pick up SUPER BATTERY PLANS (Players should not be fooled by Dr Fred Edison’s claim they’re upstairs). Flush them to hoagie and give them to the DR Edison in the past (located in the secret lab in the grandfather clock).

[Task 3: Rescuing Laverne stuck in the tree]

The situation has somewhat backfired and Bernard’s friends are stuck through time. Since some puzzles require help from the future, it’s best to rescue Laverne. Currently a tree snags her in the future; Perhaps getting it cut down will get her down?

1) Select Hoagie and head into the motel, pick up the RED PAINT in the bed room attic and apply it to the kumquat tree outside to disguise the tree as a cherry tree.

2) Head back into the building and enter the main hallway where George Washington, John Hancock and Thomas Jefferson are writing up the constitution. Talk to George Washington and you’ll come across an option to ask him if it’s true about the cherry tree. Dare him on by saying he’s lost the edge to repeat it. He will cut the tree down and thus setting Laverne free.

[Task 4: Obtaining tentacle disguise]
-------------------------------------
Laverne’s access to the future is highly restricted. Without disguising herself as a tentacle she’s not going to get far in the future.

1) After being brought down from the tree, Laverne will be stuck in the kennel with the Edison’s of the future. Talk to the tentacle guard and tell him “You don’t feel so good”. The guard will take Laverne to see the doctor who will eventually leave the room. Once alone, pick up the TENTACLE CHART. Get back into the kennels and talk to the kennel guard. Tell the guard you “need to use the bathroom”. The guard will take Laverne outside, flush the picture to Hoagie.

2) Select hoagie and pick up the picture from his chron-o-john and place the chart on Bette Ross’s table (2nd door on the 2nd floor). The American flag in the future will now change into a tentacle costume. Select Bernard, go onto the roof and pick up the CRANK in the crank box and flush it to Laverne. Make Laverne talk to guard again to get back inside.

3) Once back inside, talk to the kennel guard and tell him that you don’t feel well again to be let out. Climb up the chimney (by using the walk feature). On the roof, use CRANK in crank box and use it again to bring the tentacle costume down. Pick it up and use it. Laverne will now be disguised as a tentacle.

[Task 5: Entering and winning best human contest]
---------------------------------------------------
It appears that the tentacle guarding the grandfather clock won’t budge unless he needs to capture escaping humans. The only humans that could be used to lure the guard away are the Edison’s of the future. The guard in the kennels watching them won’t leave his post without a suitable bribe. He wants to go to the top restaurant club tentacle, how convenient that tickets to club tentacle can be won in the best human show.


[Phase 1: finding suitable human to enter.]
1) In the corridor outside the kennels and kitchen, “TALK” to the blue tentacle (make sure to have costume) and he will give Laverne the NAMETAG to enter show. Problem, a human needs to enter the contest, Laverne can’t enter, as she needs to accompany the human to the show as a tentacle. The Edison’s can’t be used as the kennel guard states they can’t be trained and therefore can’t be used. It leaves us the mummy.

2) Head upstairs (again, make sure you have the tentacle costume) to the second door to find the mummy. Apply the nametag on the mummy. Pick up the ROLLER SKATES from the table opposite mummy and use them on the mummy. Push the mummy to get him to the waiting area and get the show started.


[Phase 2 beating Harold]
It’s become apparent that Harold is the only decent competitor being able to win all the events. He needs to be eliminated. Use Bernard, head upstairs to the third room in the present and switch on the stereo by using it and pushing over the second speaker on to obtain FAKE BARF that falls to the floor in the reception. “USE” FAKE BARF on Harold in the future to disqualify and eliminate him from the competition.


[Phase 3 winning the best hair competition]
The best human will be determined by best hair, smile and laughter. To win the best hair competition, use the SPAGHETTI from the past to get the hair and the FORK to shape the hair. Talk to the Tentacle judges and ask them to judge the best hair competition and win it.


[Phase 4 winning the best laugh competition]
To win the best laugh competition, give Laverne’s Scalpel knife to Bernard and make him slash Oozo the clown in the present. Pick up the BOX O’ LAUGHS and use it on the mummy in the future. Talk to tentacle judges and ask them to judge the best laughter competition to win it.


[Phase 5: winning the best smile competition.]
To win the best smile competition, use Hoagie and “use” Bernard’s BOOK on the horse in the past. Pick up DENTURES from the glass and use them on the Mummy in the future. Ask the tentacle judges to judge the best smile competition and win it. With all 3 categories won, the 2 tickets to club Tentacle are yours to be used.

[Task 6:Getting Laverne into the Old lab to power her chron-o-john]

[Phase 1 getting rid of kennel guard]
Using the prize from winning the best human contest (see previous task), bribe the tentacle guard with the prize, the guard will leave allowing the electric force field to be deactivated thus allow the Edison’s of the future free.


[Phase 2 “persuading” Edison’s to escape]

The Edison’s are not motivated for breaking out to distract the tentacle guarding the grandfather clock. Didn’t zed Edison mention he hated skunks?

1) Select the character with the boo-boo-begone (should still be Bernard) and flush it to Laverne. Make her use it on the fence that the black cat keeps hiding under. When it comes out the black cat will have a stripe like a skunk. The cat will dash off to where Laverne can’t reach it.

2) Select Hoagie and head into the attic where the cat with the squeaky mouse toy are found. Use Ned’s bed (the one closest to the cat), notice it gets distracted, but the amount of time needs to be increased so Hoagie can pick up the toy. Use squeaky mattress on Ted’s bed and hoagie will replace them. Sit on the bed again to distract the cat. Quickly pick up the toy and flush it to Laverne and use it on the black cat to capture it. Head back to the kennel and use it. The Edison’s will flee and distract the guard allowing access into the old lab.

[7 Powering Laverne’s chron-o-john]
------------------------------------------
Laverne’s only method of power is by using the hamster generator. Problem, is you need to obtain the hamster for it and find a method to get the hamster to the future without using the chron-o-john. Challenging huh?


[Obtaining hamster and preparing it for use in generator]
1) Select Bernard and pick up the hamster from weird Ed Edison’s room and place it in the cool box on the second floor by the vending machine.

2) Using Laverne, examine the cool box and pick up the frozen hamster from the cool box and use the microwave in the kitchen to defrost the hamster.

3) Select Bernard and use the crowbar (Obtained by finding and giving the thief the set of KEYS) on the dime stuck on the floor in the reception and on the vending machine upstairs and pick up the mass of QUARTERS. Head into the first room upstairs and use the dime stuck on the gum to separate it. Use the 2 dimes in the coin slot to vibrate the sleeping conventioneer off the bed. Pick up the sweater and use it on the tumble drier and apply the QUARTERS into the tumble drier coin slot.

4) Use Laverne to pick up the sweater in the future and use it on the hamster to keep it warm and ready to use the Hamster generator.

5) Head back upstairs and back into the second room with the mummy. Pick up the extension cord obscured by the mummy and pink flamingo. Connection the extension cord to the chron-o-john socket and use it action on the window near by. Once inside the old lab, connect it to the hamster generator.


[Phase 3 Booby trap and retrieving Hamster]
A trap has been sprung when Laverne uses the hamster on the hamster generator. The hamster has escaped and has to be returned! Flush the FLIER from the present to hoagie and USE it on the suggestion box in the past. Select Laverne again and use the vacuum cleaner that materialises on the mouse hole. Open vacuum cleaner hatch and pick up the dust ball that’s hovered up and use the hamster again on the generator. With everything in place, Laverne is ready to return to the present.

[Task 8: Building Hoagies battery]
------------------------
With Laverne ready to return to the present, she’s now free to help her friends. Its hoagie turn to prepare, with the plans of the super battery already given to Red Edison (see task 2 for details) work can begin on the battery itself.


[Phase 1 obtaining the oil]
3 items are required to build the super battery. To obtain the oil, head into the kitchen and pick up OIL and give it to Dr Red Edison.


[Phase 2 obtaining gold]
1) To obtain the gold, Use Hoagie to go outside and open the letter box to obtain LETTER and flush it to Bernard. Switch to Bernard and give it to the depressed conventioneer in the second room on the second floor. Pick up the FLAG GUN from the room and use it on the CIGAR LIGHTER by the cigar rep.

2) Talk to the cigar rep and tell him he has “nice cigars” and you are interested in having one, without the cigar rep constantly detonating the exploding cigars you can obtain one. Pick up the chattering teeth and give hoagie the CIGAR LIGHTER, EXPLODING CIGAR and CHATTERING TEETH to hoagie.

NOTE: to pick up the chattering teeth, players must use Bernard to direct the teeth (by walking around) into the grate next to the chimney (make sure to open it first).

3) Switch to Hoagie and give George Washington the EXPLODING CIGAR. Hoagie will light the exploding cigar, making it exploding and lose George Washington’s teeth. Give the chattering teeth to him. John Hancock and Thomas Jefferson will be convinced that George is cold and light a fire.

4) Pick up John Hancock’s blanket and use BLANKET on the chimney on the roof; this’ll consequently set off the smoke detector. Head downstairs and pick up gold feather pen and give it to Dr Edison.


[Phase 3 obtaining vinegar]
To obtain the vinegar, use Hoagie, locate and pick up the CHATEAU DE CHEAPO wine and give it to Thomas Jefferson for his time capsule. Give Hoagie’s can opener to Laverne and use it on the time capsule located in the 1st room on 2nd floor. Flush the VINEGAR to Hoagie and give it to Dr Edison in the past. When Dr red Edison completes the battery, pick it up.

[Task 9: Charging hoagie’s super battery]
---------------------------------------
With the Super battery built in (consult task 2 and 8 for details as to how this was achieved), we can now begin charging it.


[Phase 1: calling the heavens]
Although hoagie has build the battery, its not much use when it’s flat. Hoagie will need to find a power source and the only way to harness electricity from nature is through a thunderstorm. Hoagie will have to tempt nature by trying the old myth; “after washing your car, it’ll start to rain”.

Use hoagie to go back into the kitchen and pick up the bucket and brush. Fill the bucket with water using the pump in the kitchen and head upstairs to George Washington’s room. Before calling the maid using the rope, PUSH or PULL the bed to create a mess that would keep the maid busy for longer and allow ample time to swipe the soap from her cart. Apply the soap with the bucket of water and use the bucket to wash the dirty coach and begin the storm.


[Phase 2: Getting Ben Franklin outside to carry out kite experiment.]
Ben Franklin won’t carry out his experiment just yet because the kite material isn’t able to withstand the weather.

Select Bernard and pick up the HELP WANTED SIGN from the window and flush it to Hoagie and give it to dr Edison of the past. Pick up the lab coat (that looks more like a rain coat) and head to Ben Franklin’s room (second floor 3rd door) and he’ll use it to alter the kite. The experiment can now begin.


[Phase 3 Charging the batter itself]
Ben Franklin will tell hoagie what to do with the kite that he will give to him. As he walks off the side and control is resumed, quickly use the battery with the kite. Once applied, wait for the signal and push the kite away. Lightening will hit the kite and charge the battery. Pick up the battery afterwards and use it on the chron-o-john’s plug socket. Hoagie is now ready to travel back to the present once everyone else is ready.

[Task 10: obtaining the super diamond to power time machine]
-------------------------------------------------
Due to Dr Edison’s cost cutting, the time machine isn’t working; Bernard’s friends would never make it back even if they did find power to their respectful chron-o-johns without fixing the machine in the present. The time machine is currently missing a vital component: A diamond.


[Phase 1 Obtain the Manic Mansion contract]
If players talk to Nurse Edna, they’ll discover that the rights to the manic mansion computer game lie in Dr Fred’s safe. The rights to the hit game could be the key to finding funds to buy the diamond. Problem is, only Dr Fred knows the code to the safe when he asleep and keeps awake through coffee and he opens the safe so quickly that the safe combination can’t be seen.

1) Direct Bernard into the kitchen and pick up the 2 pots of coffee. Offer the decafe to Dr Edison to get him asleep. Head back to the control room and look at the Monitor. Clearly nurse Edna will stop you regardless what you do, so she needs to be removed. The statue is blocking a clear path out the door.

2) Select hoagie and pick up the left-handed hammer from Dr Edison of the past’s lab. When Ned puts down the right-handed hammer during sculpting, use the left-handed hammer on it. Ned and Jed will switch places to sculpture, consequently switching the side that the sword resides.

3) With the statue sword changed, it gives Bernard a clear path to PUSH nurse Edna out the room, providing uninterrupted viewing.

4) As mentioned, Dr Fred opens the safe so quickly, the safe combination cannot be seen, and so lets slow it down. Apply the videotape (found in the 3rd room above the stereo) into the VCR and record DR Edison’s actions. Slow the sequence down by pressing the knob down on the right to EP and play the tape again. You can now see the numbers to the safe code. Head back into the office, open the safe and pick up the contract.


[Phase 2 Rescuing and waking DR Edison]
Nuts. DR Edison hasn’t signed the contract yet and the IRS has him locked up. He needs to be rescued and made to sign the contract if Bernard is to obtain the funds to buy the diamond.

1) Head up the chimney to the roof and enter the room where Dr Fred is being held. Pick up the ROPE tying Dr Fred Edison up and use it on the pulley. Head down and outside to tie the rope to the mummy. Head back on the roof and pull rope to get the mummy into the attic.


2) Apply the paint to the mummy and USE the mummy on dr Edison to switch them around. Use the rope on Dr Edison and PULL the rope to get him out of the room. Once back in the lab, “USE” the FUNNEL and COFFEE on Dr Edison to wake him up.


[Phase 3 Signing and sending the contract.]
1) Talk to dr Edison and tell him he needs to sign something. Clearly he’s too busy thinking of a plan to stop Purple tentacle. Talk to Edison again and tell him that you’ll take care of purple tentacle on your own. When dr Edison asks how, tell him its by locking him up for insanity and you need a dr to sign the relevant documents. Dr Edison will sign the contract.

2) Now a stamp is required. Head into weird Ed Edison’s room and use the invisible ink on the stamp book. Pick up the stamp and stamp book that is hurled at Bernard and apply the stamp onto the envelope. If you want, you can return the stamp book back to Ed Edison to keep him happy.

3) Flush the contract to hoagie and use it on the mailbox outside the motel. In the present it was too late to send the documents. Where as in the past, they’re several hundred years early. Lucas arts will call DR Edison and place 2 million dollars into the SWISS BANK ACCOUNT.


[Phase 4 Buying diamond.]
With the funds secured, use the telephone in the second room of the second floor (the sleeping conventioneer is blocking the path to the phone in the first room). Make the call to order diamond (Make sure you have the SWISS BANK ACCOUNT from Dr Fred’s office!).Bernard will automatically pick up the package and give it to Dr Edison.

With everyone’s chron-o-john powered and the machine fixed, Laverne and hoagie can return to the present, the original plan of stopping purple tentacle can begin.

[Task 11:Showdown with Purple tentacle]

Upon return, things already look bad; an army of purple tentacles are present and the purple tentacle of the future has arrived with his shrinking ray. To make matters worse a phalanx (triangle formation) of purple tentacles obstruct the switch to shutdown of the toxic sewage.


[Phase 1; getting rid of Tentacles guarding switch]
Walk out of the room and get spotted by purple tentacle. He will use the shrinking ray on Bernard and his friends, dash into the second room and walkthrough the mouse hole and pick up the bowling ball once the hapless three grow back to normal size. Return dr Fred’s lab and use it on the purple tentacles guarding the switch. With the phalanx of tentacles defeated hit the switch to hopefully end the madness.


[Phase 2 Defeating Purple tentacle of the future]
Talk to purple tentacle and ask him why he hates humans. Respond again by saying its all Dr Fred’s fault and he should shoot him for a change. Purple tentacle will comply and shoot Dr Fred. The laser with bounce back and hit Purple tentacle and shrinking him. With a stamp, the threat of purple tentacle is finally thwarted.

With the world saved, its time to move on, the adventure game is a dying bred and its best to hunt out other games to keep you hooked. Try sampling the following games:

Created by revolution (makers of broken sword) for free. Again uses the Scummvm engine to work. The longest journey, a more mature adventure game with plenty of creative ideas and swearing, find a copy of this and you won’t regret it.

Finally, for those of you who want something really different and interesting puzzle game where fiction and reality blur together, Try In memoriam. Be advised, you need to be online to play this game.
