[Dead mans hand Weapons guide]

Every good bandit needs a weapon. Whether its to pacify people unwilling for you to have a five finger discount on their goods or shooting your blood brother in the back because he cheated in a game of poker, you need a gun. But every good bandit also needs to know how to use his gun properly, especially for your character in dead mans hand. This walkthrough will go through the various weapons of the game. A brief description of each weapon and tips on using these weapons will be provided. Saddle up partner, revenge is calling out for you.

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

---------
[Pistols]
---------
No cowboy or bandit is complete without his pistol. A Flexible weapon for various situations and ideal for all-purpose use. Ammo comes in the form of belts. There are 3 kinds of pistols.

[Peacemaker]
The peacemaker is the all rounder of the three pistols and it’s certainly the most accurate pistol, capable of pinpoint accuracy from long distances. With a good rate of fire, its ideal for making long pot shots as you run around looking for ammo for other guns or to build up players power meter. Powershots with this gun is a rapid fire setting allowing the bullets to be fired very quickly, ideal for picking off groups of enemies or a reasonable chunk of energy off bosses. In addition, if the powershot ability was held down long enough, it can rack up a decent amount of points or increase the power meter for more powerful guns like the buffalo rifle.

Overall, the peacemaker is an ideal choice for beginners or players who don’t like the slow firing of the Huntley thunder and need decent rate of fire. If players opt for powerful rifles to do the killing instead of using the Huntley thunder, then this gun is also a good choice.

[Huntley thunder]
The Huntley thunder although the slowest firing of the 3 pistols, its power is unmatched, being able to pick enemies off in very few shots. What makes this weapon so desirable is its power shot that causes immense damage; being able to kill all but the hardest of enemies in one shot and take large chunks off energy off bosses.

The Huntley thunder should be the pistol of choice for more experienced fps players playing single player because of its immense power that capable of picking off both standard enemies and (especially) bosses with ease. Provided there’s enough cover around, the weapon could be used for general shooting, hiding after each shot. Players should fill the power bar to maximum first before using the powershot first as its power consumption is high. But players must make sure each shot counts, as the delay in the gun leaves players very vulnerable.

[Kansas’s pepperbox]
Whilst the Kansas pepperbox is the fastest firing gun allowing continuous firing without delays, it’s a real disappointment. The pistol is the weakest and has the shortest range of all 3, requiring players to get close and firing all 4 shots just to kill the weakest of foes. Which, by that time the opponent has probably emptied one or more shots into players. The powershot isn’t particularly spectacular or effective either, allowing the gun to fire all 4 shots at once instead. Players, shouldn’t really consider this weapon for intense fighting, they should only resort to this weapon for just building up the power meter quickly and cheaply and then resorting to different weapons later.

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

-------------
[Shotguns]
------------
Whilst the pistols can manage generally most situations and the rifles dealing with anything more serious or long ranged, the shotguns are made slightly redundant. Nevertheless, when short ranged fighting is called for, the option to use shotguns is available. Ammo comes in the form of green cartridge boxes. There are 3 types of shotgun.

[Martin pump action]
With reasonable speed and damage, this pump action shotgun can be considered the middle classed shotgun. What differentiates this shotgun from the other 2 is that it has a considerably larger clip size, making it the more reliable shotgun in long gunfights. In addition, its power shot ability is able to stun and disable enemies for duration of time, allowing players to switch to more deadly weapons or make a clean escape. The weapon is ideal against dangerous foes such as the skagit brothers, but is ineffective to bosses who are immune to the effects.

Overall, if players want an all-purpose and generally reliable gun with a special ability, this is recommended. But if they want more power or speed, they’ll have to choose one of the other 2.

[Stephens SBS double barrel]
Players wanting raw firepower of a shotgun, nothing beats the Stephens sbs double-barrelled shotgun. Its primary setting fires both barrels at an enemy causing immense damage, ideal for more stubborn targets. The powershot allows shells to be fired one at a time. This powershot ability is pointless as the gun isn’t as effective and its better off to save the power meter for more deadly weapons.

[Overland coach express]
This sawn off shotgun suffers from the same problems as the Kansas pepper box. Whilst having the fastest firing and reloading time of any shotgun, it’s the weakest and has the lowest shooting distance of all 3 shotguns. Its powershot ability is identical to the Stephens SBS double barrel shot. Allowing players to shoot one shell at a time instead of emptying both at the same time, thus making it a generally pointless and a complete waste of power. Players should only use this as a last resort or as a quick ambush weapon, firing it around blind corners and then retreating to reload, it shouldn’t be used for assaulting.

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

---------
[Rifles]
---------

For more troubling times when the enemy is at a distance or decent firepower is required, the rifle comes into action. Red cartridges boxes scattered around the level serve as rifle ammunition. Again there are 3 types, each one having their own traits.

[Westerner carbine]
The westerner carbine is the middle weight of the 3 rifles, being a compromise of the other 2 rifles, its rate of fire is moderate and whilst it has the scope and powershot like the hawkings buffalo rifle, it doesn’t do as much damage, requiring more then one shot to kill most enemies. In general this weapon is perfectly balanced and perfectly suited for both offensive 1-on-1 fighting and defensive purposes like sniping. But whilst it maybe argued that it’s balanced, it’s a jack-of-all-trades and therefore a master of none. Players are better off opting for the Lewis revolving rifle when in doubt of what to expect.

[Lewis revolving rifle]
The rifle is the closest thing the game has to an assault rifle. Damage delivered with this weapon is moderate, it has however the fastest rate of fire of any weapon (apart from the Gattling gun), able to outshoot anyone foolish enough to stand in front of it without losing much (if any) of its accuracy. Its powershot ability is identical to the peacemaker pistol allowing bullets to be fired in quick succession, but the rifle already fires fast enough and generally shouldn’t be used and would be a waste of ammo.

Although capable and accurate enough for long ranged shooting, the gun lacks a scope and therefore most suited for short/medium ranged shooting. Its an ideal rifle of choice as it suits the needs of all missions and situations like building up the power meter for the use of more powerful weapons like the Huntley thunder.

[Hawkins buffalo rifle]
The Hawkins buffalo rifle is the sniper rifle of the game. It comes with some serious flaws such as the single bullet clip size and the relatively long reloading generally makes it poor standard weapon. However, when using the powershot, its able to kill all enemies in one shot and pick large holes out of bosses. Players should opt for this weapon for the few defensive purpose missions, like picking off long ranged targets. But even then it’s probably better to choose another gun. It’s completely useless when firing in its unzoomed state and therefore shouldn’t be carried around too frequently. It should only be used for powershots, which means relying on another weapon (such as the peacemaker) to rack up the power bar first before resorting to this weapon.

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
---------------------
[Special weapons]
--------------------

Not quite a pistol, not quite a shotgun or a rifle either. These weapons are basically the explosives and close quarter weapons.

[Bowie knife]
Sharp and pointy, this metallic knife is always with you right to the end. With plenty of ammunition there’s very little chance that players will have to resort to this weapon for intense combat. It symbolises the thin line between having a weapon and certain defeat. There’s little purpose other then to save ammo when destroying objects for points. Although additional points are given for knife kills, players will discover killing someone with this weapon is not only difficult but time consuming. Players wishing to use this weapon should use this with the martin pump action shotgun and on the final enemy in the area. First disable your opponent, then draw out your knife and slash him till he/she dies.

[Dynamite]
Dynamite is effectively the hand grenade of dead mans hand, dynamite are picked up in bundles and is capable of causing massive damage and mayhem to its surroundings. It’s Ideal for the stupid, cowardly, or defensive opponent who stands around in the same area for too long. This weapon isn’t really a necessity to completing the single player game. Players will only really need to resort to dynamite against one boss and after that it becomes a luxury. Players should try lighting one stick of dynamite and then throwing several unlit ones to amplify damage and rack up large numbers of points. Dynamite can be effective as indirect firepower and taking enemies out by destroying the surrounding structures of locations instead.

Whilst its possible for players to shoot the dynamite out of the sky, its extremely difficult and players really should just move away quickly when they first see dynamite being hurled towards them.

[Whisky bombs]
The whisky bombs are Molotov cocktails that break upon contact, found in carry cases; it’s capable of sealing areas off with flames and catching anyone nearby alight. Whisky bombs are extremely difficult to use, as splash damage is low and generally easy to dodge. Enemies will frequently use whisky bombs; players should keep their distance or try to seek cover (ideally overhead cover like trees and balconies). To maximise successes when using whisky bombs, try throwing them in the midst’s of battle or getting close and throwing them directly at opponents. Alternatively, try sealing off entrances to prevent pursuing enemies.
