***INTRODUCTION***

This is a walkthrough guide of the free online FPS multiplayer game 'Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory'. The game was originally going to be released as an expansion pack but problems with the one player mode stopped that. So instead, the multiplayer version of the game was released as a game on it's own in 2003 and became a big hit with over 1000 servers and 10,000s of players all around the world. Today the game is as popular as ever thanks to the modding community bringing out new mods and new maps to keep Enemy Territory one of the best free multiplayer games around.

***ABOUT ENEMY TERRITORY***

Enemy Territory is a First Person Shooter set during World War II. There are only two sides in the game, the Axis (Germans) and the Allies (Americans). When playing online you and your team, whether on the Axis side or American side will either be defending or attacking or on some maps - both. For example on some maps Allies might have to steal an object, such as documents so they can trasmit them and win the map. Obviously the job of the Axis would be to stop them from from accomplishing any of this. Not only that but there are smaller objectives which will help either side win the map. This could be building bridges to escort tanks to attack bases or construct walls and defenses to prevent tanks or trucks from steal the objective.

The tasks and objectives for the Allies and Axis change with each map and so the game stays fresh as either side defends or attacks before the time runs out. If the allies complete their objective before the time runs out, they win, if not they lose to the Axis.

What makes Enemy Territory so unique is that with everything you do in the game you will gain experience points which "promotes" your players stats. You can earn points by killing the enemy, building objectives or supply ammo or medi packs to your teammates. As you are promoted you are given new abilities, such as being able to spot mines or construct things faster.

***PLAYER CLASSES***

There are 6 different classes for you to choose from and they all have their own unique skills. It is best to have a good understanding of all these classes and be familiar with everything they can do. Each one plays a vital role in the success when accomplishing an objective.

SOLDIER (Heavy Weapons)

The soldier uses heavy weapons and can be very powerful against the enemy. They can generally kill many enemies if used properly however their main disadvantage is their speed. They cannot move as fast as the other classes and their reload time, especially in the lower experience, can be pretty slow. Below is a list of the Soldier's available weapons.

Panzerfaust - A rocket launcher that is great for killing grouped enemies in a single shot. However they have a very slow reload time and can cause team damage.

Flamethrower - Mainly used in close combat, it's a great weapon to keep large numbers of enemies in small spaces. However it also can cause team damaged if used incorrectly.

Mortar - A great weapon for attacking at a distance allowing you to kill your enemy on different areas of the map. Problems are that you have limited ammo and the reload time is quite long.

MG42 - A good weapon for defending, great for killing many enemies who might charge at you. Disadvantage is that you have a limited view and as you're lying down you're an easy target.

FIELD OPS (Ammo & Airsupport)

As well as providing ammo to your teammates (which can be extremely important), Field Ops can also call on air support and artillery. Throwing a canister of smoke will signal a plane to drop airsupport over the area which can cause a lot of damage. Artillery can be used with your binoculars to select an area that will slowly be bombed which can kill unsuspecting enemies for run in.

MEDIC (First Aid)

The medics job is to provide medi packs to to heal and also has the ability to revive fallen teammates. They are vital in keeping your team alive and can be more difficult to kill thanks to their higher health and the fact that they can heal themselves.

ENGINEER (Engineering)

The engineer has many important jobs and is vital if any objective is to be accomplished. Below is a list of the engineers many functions.

Mines - A small explosive hidden in the ground, great for defending areas.
Dynamite - A large explosive used to destroy walls, bridges and objectives.
Construction - Builing, bridges, walls, fixing tanks and trucks.

Engineers are important to a maps success so that makes them a prime target for the enemy so they are usually accompanied by medics who can keep them alive and defend them.

COVERT OP (Espionage)

The covert op has many wonderful abilities that can help your team suceed. They can provide sniper cover and kill enemies from long distance. They can also provide smoke cover which can be of great use for hiding your teammates in a small area. The covert op can also steal uniforms of dead enemies and pretend to be the enemy. This can allow them to go behind enemy lines, to spot enemy mines with their binoculars or destroy small contructions with their satchel.

***HINTS AND TIPS***

Teamwork - This is very important and without it your chances of winning are greatly reduced. Work as a team, help each other out and stay together by doing this it makes it extremely difficult for the enemy. If you all run off doing your own thing you're likely to get killed.

Ammo & Health - Always try and leave some ammo near your respawn, so when your teammates spawn they can collect more ammo which will likely stop them from running out during a gun fight. It is also a good idea to leave them with health packs in areas your team is occupied in. This will allow your team to pick them up when they need them most without having to request them.

Be alert - Keep an eye on your teammates, your surroundings and try and listen to any sounds around you. If you hear footsteps and none of your teammates are near you, then you know it's an enemy.

Always reload - There's nothing more annoying than running out of ammo in the middle of a gun fight. Whenever you have a chance, reload as quickly as you can, even if it you're short one bullet, in some cases it's the last bullet that kills your enemy.

Be discreet - Don't go running around, stay down, hide behind walls, try and keep out of sight of your enemy. You hold the advantage if you know where they are and they have no clue as to where you are.

Check the classes - Always check what classes your teammates are. If there are too many of your class then change. What good is half a team of medics of covert ops if the few engineers you have are dying before they can do their objectives. Try and balance out all the classes so you improve your teams chances.

Avoid possible mines - If you're in an area that's usually mined, then avoid it or atleast wait for someone to spot them. So be smart and try and go around the areas whenever possible as some people can be very predictable and that's that can be their downfall.
