Retro Game Walkthroughs for Super Monkey Ball Jr (Game Boy Advance)
Submitted By: AfroJoe
Game: SUPER MONKEY BALL JR (NTSC)
Format: GAME BOY ADVANCE
Writer: AFROJOE

This is my Walkthrough of Super Monkey Ball Jr, written and put
together by me, AfroJoe. I hope this Walkthrough will help you
in Super Monkey Ball Jr. Many of you may not have it yet, as it
is only available in America, but I am lucky enough to own an
NTSC copy, and that is what I am using to create this
Walkthrough. If you do not own a copy of the game yet, then
this Walkthrough may help you once you do get the game. I have
completed the game all the way through, and have spent some time
doing so - I've spent almost as much time putting this
Walkthrough together.

Thanks for reading this mini Introduction, and enjoy the
Walkthrough,
AfroJoe

2. MONKEYS

There aren't many differences between the few Monkeys, except
the looks really. Some can be a little better at different
things than others, though.

Controllable Monkeys:

AiAi - One of the male monkeys - quite light, so has good
acceleration, but not a very good overall speed for the dash
circuits. Pretty much an all-rounder.

MeeMee - The first female monkey - larger than AiAi, so slower
acceleration, but faster overall speed. An all-rounder as well,
really.

Baby - A female, and the smallest monkey in the game - meaning
best acceleration from the start, but the slowest overall speed.
She's not good if you're on the side of the level either, as
only the slightest connection mid-air will send her tumbling.

GonGon - The heaviest of all the monkeys - male, and the fastest
monkey overall. Does have the worst acceleration, mind. Is
pretty stable when next to the outsides of the arena, and stays
on the courses well.

3. MAIN GAME - BEGINNER FLOORS

Beginner Mode:

FLOOR 1:
A simple course - just hold Up on the D-pad at the same time as
A and you'll complete it in about 2 seconds - the bananas, if
you're wanting to collect them, are all easy to collect too.

FLOOR 2:
Almost the same floor as the last one, but longer, and with a
large hole in the middle. Simply swerve out to avoid the hole
in middle of the course and swerve back in to enter the Goal.

FLOOR 3:
Shaped like an 8, and you start directly across from the Goal -
just move around the course avoiding the holes in the middle and
the edges at the side and you're fine.

FLOOR 4:
You're on a platform at one end - the goal is on a platform at
the other - there is a larger platform in between, but it's
moving. Time your movements correctly, and when the platform is
connected with the one you are on, move onto it before it can
move away - do the same when you get to the other end to reach
your Goal.

FLOOR 5:
Bonus Floor - collect all the bananas in a minute, which is an
easy task. Watch out you don't fall off the course, though.

FLOOR 6:
A course continually moving downward, but with junctions in
which you turn 180 degrees, where you have to change direction.
Be careful not to fall off these junctions when you've sped down
the slopes.

FLOOR 7:
Moving up hills this time - which is a lot harder, but this one
is sort of easy as well. Just get in line with the path
upwards, and hold A to go up - don't worry, as there is a wall
at the top of each hill to stop you flying off at the other
side. Watch out on the last hill though, as there is no wall.
Be careful.

FLOOR 8:
This one is complicated - it consists of a number all small
square platforms that all move in and out. You have to get onto
the only one you can at first, and then when they all join up,
sprint across to the furthest away square, which takes you to
the Goal. It can be very tricky, but if you get your timing
right, and don't fall off the squares, then you'll be fine.

FLOOR 9:
This floor introduces jumps into the game. Simply travel along
to the end of the platform you start on, line up properly, and
head down the hill, holding up to get the right amount of speed.
As soon as you land, pull back so you don't go flying off the
end, and then turn right and the Goal is there.

FLOOR 10:
A course that just mixes everything you've done so far - thin
platforms, lots of swerving in and out, downhill rides and a
couple of jumps. Just follow the track and be careful, and it
shouldn't be too hard for you.

4. MAIN GAME - ADVANCED FLOORS

Advanced Floors:

FLOOR 1:
Just a simple course like Floor 1 in Beginner, but with a small
bar in the middle of the course. Get to full speed to bounce
over it, and get to the Goal - no left or rights required.

FLOOR 2:
Quite complicated - first you have to go over 2 humps, which is
easy - then you have to swerve in and out of these large blocks
in the course, before going around a circle, over a small
bridge, round a square, and over another small bridge again to
get to the Goal. You've got a lot of time though, so you should
use it well.

FLOOR 3:
You have to get from one platform to another, using 2 moving
platforms in the middle this time - get on one, swithc when it
passes by the other, and get off on the platform with the Goal
on it. As long as your timing is right, this one should be a
walk in the park.

FLOOR 4:
See Floor 4 in the Beginner guide - it's just this level, but
with a thinner middle platform, meaning it's harder to make the
switch than before. Get your timing right though, again, and
you'll be fine.

FLOOR 5:
Quite a hard course, if you go for the main route. The Goal is
on the same level as you, but it's on a part of the course that
is moving up and down - if you move ont othe moving bit at the
wrong moment, you'll A.) just be thrown back to where you were,
or B.) dropped off at the other end, although here, if you're
lucky, you can steer your way to the goal while falling.
Warp: There is also a Warp on this floor, which takes you to
Floor 8 - it's a lot easier to get to than the real Goal. Just
drop backwards off the starting point, and you'll land on a new
small platform. The Goal Warp is right here.

FLOOR 6:
This course sort of winds downwards, a bit like course 6 in
Beginner Mode. It's quite easy, as you've only to stop at 2
platforms on your way down - watch out though, as the course is
quite a bit thinner than before.

FLOOR 7:
This one is quite easy - you're on a slope for the whole length
of the course, and you just have to swerve (while moving) out of
the way of all the barriers. You can't afford to hit any here
though, as the timing proves. Maybe if you clip one you're ok,
but any more than that and you're toast.

FLOOR 8:
Very like Floor 8 in Beginner Mode, but instead the floors move
a lot quicker, so you might have to stop in the middle on one of
them as you are making your way across the middle.

FLOOR 9:
There are platforms moving upwards to connect floors, and you
just have to get on them when they are connected with your
particular floor. Move up 4 floors and then downhill to the
Goal. Watch out for the little things that make you bounce off
the side - you'll recognise them when you see them.

FLOOR 10:
Bonus Floor - collect all the bananas before the timer runs out
- this time you have to move between platforms using thin
bridges to get to the other platforms. It's still quite easy
though.

FLOOR 11:
There are 4 small bridges that lead you down towards the Goal.
4 is the thickest bridge, and 1 is the thinnest. If you go down
4, when you get to the bottom of the hill you'll have to move
around a bit to get in line with the Goal, but if you use 1,
then you'll be right in line with the Goal as soon as the hill
finishes.

FLOOR 12:
This course is easy - just follow the S shape, but watch you
don't fall off the end at each end.

FLOOR 13:
Is quite a thin course, but if you just hold A to go past the
thin bits quickly enough while going down the hills, then it
should be ok. A bit like Floor 6, but quite a bit more
complicated.

FLOOR 14:
This combines a lot of the things you've used so far - first you
go downhill and over a jump, then you go uphill, which can be
tricky, before finally dodging a large hole in the middle of the
course, which is hidden well.

FLOOR 15:
This one is quite hard - you have to move along thin platforms
that are full with moving red springs that make you bounce off
the course. You must move quickly, before studying your next
move, and then moving quickly again. It's the hardest course so
far.

FLOOR 16:
This is quite an easy course when compared to the last one - you
just have to get your timing right, move onto the platform that
tilts to the side, and just sprint it before the platform can
tip you back and off the course.

FLOOR 17:
This one is quite hard - there are spikes moving in and out,
with small gaps in between them. Each time a spike moves out,
you move your monkey up into the next space until you reach the
end. This can take quite a bit of time, and if you even get
clipped by one of the spikes, you'll be knocked off course.
Frustrating.

FLOOR 18:
This one is annoying, really - you have to move from one tilting
square to the next. The square next to the one you are on will
always be going the opposite way, so it can be quite difficult.
Just move squares when they both have the side you are on
pointing downwards.

FLOOR 19:
Not too hard a course, considering it is right at the end - you
just have to avoid holes in a rather thick course by swerving in
and out, and occassionally slowing down. It shouldn't be too
hard.

FLOOR 20:
I'm sorry, but there's not much I can do to help you on here, as
it's a course full of moving platforms, that move in different
directions each time. You just have to make your way across
them to get to the Goal. It's tricky, but it usually gives you
a little beginner's luck, which is nice.

5. MAIN GAME - MASTER FLOORS

Master Floors:

FLOOR 1:
The first Master course in the game, and surprisngly, it's not
as hard as some of the courses on Expert Mode. First of all,
you have to steer your monkey around some curves, down a very
thin slope, onto a tiny moving block, and off it again, to the
goal. the only problem is, you have to do this in the quickest
time ossible. If you miss the square block, you've failed the
level.

FLOOR 2:
This one is a lot harder, but thankfully, it gives you a lot
more time. It's mostly made up of tight and thin corners and a
bunch of moving blocks in the middle section that you have to
skillfully transfer between before the goal. It may take a few
turns to work out where each block goes - anyone that completes
this first time is either crazy or a true master gamer.

FLOOR 3:
This is fairly easy, and much easier than some of the courses on
Expert, yet again. It's a course with 6 main 180 turns at the
end of each straight, and these corners get thinner and htinner
as the course goes on. Not too hard though, and you'll surpass
it in a couple of goes.

FLOOR 4:
This is tricky. It's a sort of maze. There are 3 long straight
paths at the start, and you have to choose the correct one to
travel down. Once you get to the end of the correct path,
another 3 paths will emerge from that, and you'll yet again have
to choose the correct one. Repeat this 4 times to complete the
course. Never go down the middle, as that always leads to a
dead end.

FLOOR 5:
The final Master Floor, and surprisingly, it's not that hard.
It's really just a long, straight course, but watch out for the
fiendish little sticking up edges on some parts, as if you go up
these, you'll be knocked off. They are disguised well, too.
Time is also a problem, so this course is actually harder than
it first looks.

6. MINI-GAMES:

Monkey Duel:
Sort of like the Main game, but with two-players, and you play
each other simultaneously. Haven't actually played it myself,
but seen a clip of it - looks good.

Monkey Fight:
Sort of like Monkey Duel, but this is more like a tournament,
with 4 monkeys involved too. Each has a giant fist attacked to
their ball, and they go around punching each other off the
sides. Many different courses to fight in too. Hurrah!

Monkey Bowling:
Possibly the most fun out of the games - you can take place in a
simple bowling game, with 10 shots, attempting to get as many
strikes as possible, or you can play in a Challenge Mode, which
allows you to attempt to knock down as many bowls as you can
with 10 shots. Good fun.

Monkey Golf:
There are two different courses, and each of them has 9 courses
of Par 3s. You, as the ball, have to get the right amount of
distance on your shot, and attempt to steer around some
obstacles, over some bridges and through some small gaps to get
to the hole. More fun than it sounds, and very addictive.

Thanks for reading my walkthrough, and I hope you'l lfind it
useful for Super Monkey Ball Jr, which I think is released over
here on the 28th of March.

Cheers, AJ.
