Retro Game Walkthroughs for Mario Kart Super Circuit (Game Boy Advance)

Mario Kart: Super circuit should be dominating your gameboy advance, with its great race and multiplayer modes, but just how do you stay ahead or defeat your friends? With weapons, and he’s an accurate guide to all the weapons and their functions.

Green shell.
The most basic weapon, press fire to shoot them ahead of you, and hold backwards and then press fire to shoot behind you, the shells will rebound off wall thought, so be careful where they go in case they come back at you!

Green shell X3.
The same as the single green shell, although the only option is to fire forward.

Red shell.
The red shell, if fired forward will chase an enemy and eventually hit them, however if the enemy weaves, he may be able to evade it. If you hold backward and press fire, the shell will wait in the road and home in on the first person to come near it.

Red shell X3
The same as a single red shell, however firing forward is now the only option.

Banana
In this Mario game, you can only ever get one banana at the time, and the only option is to lay it in the road. When driven over, the driver will slide, if the driver brakes instantly, it is possible to avoid sliding.

Lightning
The lightning bolt shrinks all enemy’s (unless an enemy is using a star at the time) whilst enemy’s are shrunk they are slower, and also, if you run them over they will squash and stop for a few seconds.

Star
Using the star will make you invincible, it will max out all your stats and if you drive into drivers they will spin out. You can also drive off terrain without slowing down.

Blue shell
A blue shell will home in on first place, it is very hard to evade, and does not stop if it hits anyone else, if a blue shell is fired an alarm sound will play, if you hear this and are in first, I recommend slowing down into second position.

Mushroom
Using a mushroom will boost your speed to max for a few seconds, its best to use these on straight road.

Ghost
Using a ghost will make you invisible and allow you to steal an item from an enemy. (The enemy and item are completely random)

I hope this has helped you get a better understanding of the weapons and therefore a better experience out of the game. Thanks for reading.

MARIO KART: SUPER CIRCUIT

A cracking little racer and one of my favourite GBA games. My walkthrough guide will show you the basics of the game and how to become a racing champion.

Racers

Mario – A great choice for the beginner. Mario has perfectly balanced stats and offers and all-round ride.

Luigi – Almost identical to his brother, Luigi again has balanced stats and also has pretty good steering. Another good choice for a beginner.

Peach – Has the highest speed but lowest weight. Peach is a good choice if you want to race fast and without coming into conflict with others.

Toad – Again, similar to Peach. Toad is all out speed but with little power.

Donkey Kong – Slow, but powerful. Perfect for the experienced racer looking for a challenge.

Wario – Similar to DK, Wario should only be used by experienced racers due to his slow speed and enormous amounts of power.

Bowser – The slowest, but most powerful racer in the game. Bowser should only be selected for veterans of the game.

Karts

50cc – The lightest type of kart. This class offers the slowest but easiest to manoeuvre kart.

100cc – A middle-weight class of kart. 100cc has more power than 50cc but is harder to take the corners.

150cc – The fastest type of kart, but is much more difficult to take the corners and you need to take jumps at high speeds due to its greater weight.

Items

Star – The Star gives you invincibility for a short period of time. It also makes you travel faster and nothing can hurt you. Perfect for moving u the field from the back.

Mushroom – Gives you a burst of speed, and is good to take over unsuspecting opponents.

Lightning – The lightening bolt strikes all other players on the track and shrinks them for a short period of time, making them much slower. If you run over any racer, you will crush them. A very devastating weapon.

Red Shell – The Red Shell when fired homes into the nearest kart and crash them if it hits. Also comes as a triple.

Green Shell – Like the Red Shell, but the Green version doesn’t home. Instead, it travels in a straight line, bouncing off obstacles and will crash any kart that it collides with. Also comes as a triple.

Boo – Boo steals an item from any other racer on the track. It also lets you become invisible for a short period of time and in this time nothing can hurt you.

Banana – Bananas can be dropped behind or thrown infront, and lay on the track. Any kart that runs over one will spin out.

Spiny Shell – The Spiny Shell when fired will aim for the leader of the race. Karts in the way may get hit, but the leader will get hit by this missile. Not very helpful at the back of the pack, but perfect if you’re at the front, behind the leader.

Coin – Collect coins in a race to increase your speed. The number of coins you collect in a cup also determines your rank for that cup. Scattered everywhere.

Tracks

Mushroom Cup

Peach Circuit – A nice, easy course to ease you into the game, with a simple layout and no tricky corners.

Shy Guy Beach - A series of islands set around a course. Pretty simple course, as long as you can stick to the islands and not stray into the water.

Riverside Park – Quite a tricky course to start off with. There are some tricky turns and the fact you’re racing on dirt will take getting used to and there are a lot of jumps.

Bowser Castle 1 – Watch for the Thwomps, but the Right-angled turns aren’t too hard to manoeuvre around.

Flower Cup

Mario Circuit – Not a very complex track, and consists of a very basic layout. A nice, easy track to ease you into the next cup.

Boo Lake – Again, a very simple course, but you can go sliding off the track sides without knowing the track properly.

Cheese Land – Obviously, made of cheese, and it’s a very slippery track. Also full of annoying obstacles such as blue mice, and can cause problems to newcomers.

Bowser Castle 2 – Similar layout to the first track, but this time much harder. There are many more obstacles here, such as hopping lava and the Thwomps are back!

Thunder Cup

Luigi Circuit – A simple track, but due to rain the track is very slippery, and watch for the puddles also as they will spin you out.

Sky Garden – A very easy and magical track, but watch you don’t slip off the edges.

Cheep-Cheep Island – Again, an easy track to complete, with a simple layout, but there are a few sudden turns that could see you flying into the ocean.

Sunset Wilds – A beautiful track but very slippery, due to the fact you’re racing on dirt. Also, there are many speed boosts here, but watch you don’t go skidding off the track.

Star Cup

Snow Land – A very slippery track and there are many obstacles to avoid. Unless you know the track well, you could be in for a difficult time.

Ribbon Road – A very easy track and also very easy to grip, meaning you can take the corners with ease. Also look out for the short-cut.

Yoshi Desert – Quite a difficult track, and the sand tracks make it very slippery. Make sure your power sliding is up to scratch.

Bowser Castle 3 – More of the same from the previous two. Not a difficult track, but the sheer amount of obstacles make it quite difficult.

Special Cup

Lakeside Park – A very difficult track as there are many sharp turns and the track is slippery.

Broken Pier – A very difficult track, with lots of gaps in the pier for you to fall off into the water. Watch yourself on this one.

Bowser Castle 4 – Very difficult to take on, especially with the number of difficult turns and obstacles.

Rainbow Road – No Mario game is complete without this track. Actually rather easy to drive around, although there are some sharp turns to watch out for.

Rankings

E – The worst ranking you can receive. Very poor racing will reward you with this shameful grade.

D – Not much better than an E, a D is still for poor racers.

C – Not too good, but awarded for fairly decent driving and average lap times.

B – Pretty good grade, B is awarded for decent driving, good lap times and plenty of coins.

A – As are good grades, and you’ll need to drive well to get an A.

1 Star – Now this is where the men are sorted from the boys. Very good driving and skill is needed here.

2 Stars – Even better, 2 Star grades are awarded for brilliant driving and blistering lap times. You’ll be there for a while to achieve this.

3 Stars – Let’s just say it’ll take months of solid practice to get a 3 Star grade for your efforts. After receiving this grade, you can truly call yourself the ‘God’ of that track.

Techniques

Blocking Items – A good way to avoid conflict with a weapon is to use a weapon you already have and fire it or hold it behind you to block the weapon fired at you.

Lightning Strikes – If you are using a Star whilst someone uses a Lightening strike, you won’t be affected by it.

Avoiding Bananas – If you run over a banana, quickly tap B to keep on racing. A musical note will appear above your racers head if performed correctly.

Spin Turn – If you need to change direction quickly, hold the A and B buttons togther and press in the direction you want to go to perform a Spin Turn.

Drifting – To take sharp corners easily, use the drift technique. Drifting will allow you to take the corners without slowing down suddenly to brake.

Turbo Start – Just before the light turns green at the start of a race, press the A button to blast off from the stat line and gain a clear advantage over your rivals.

And there we have it. The basics of Super Circuit torn right open. Hope my guide was helpful, and thanks for reading.

PS – I don’t walk on your photocopier, so don’t copy my walkthrough
