Onimusha 2

Orbs

Orbs are a big part of Onimusha, here's what they all do:
Red/pink: allow you to enhance weapons and armour at save
points
Yellow: Give an instant health top-up
Blue: Give an instant magic power top-up
Purple: Collect five of these and turn into the Onimusha for a
short period of time. You're speed and power is heightened.

Enemies

Foot soldier: wears green and is basically a normal soldier.
Quite easy to kill. You can issen them easily when they run at
you with their arm raised (an issen is a critical hit, a one hit
kill that is done by attacking right as the enemy is about to
attack you).

Red foot soldier: taller and stronger than the green ones.
Appears at the saem time but have completely different attacks.
A lot harder to kill and issen.

Really Tall Silver Footsoldier: these aren't as hard as they
look but are still hard. They will block your attacks often and
have some good attacks of their own. Use the upward thrust of
the buraitou or a kick to knock them over then stab them. If
there are many surrounding you it's worth using the senpumaru's
wind attack to get rid of them all.

Lizard: comes in assorted colours and they all seem pretty much
the same. They try to slash you with swords. They also have jab
attacks and spin attacks to watch out for. Can be a pain but
ultimately not that hard. Buraitou is the weapon to use or
senpumaru if there are a lot of them.

Puppet knifehands: similar to the ninja-style demons in Onimusha
1, they will run in and attack close range or jump and attack
from above. They also have a bad breath attack. They'll run
backwards when you try and slash them. Just wait until they run
in, block their attack and tehn slash them with the buraitou.
Alternatively use the hyoujin-yari to attack them when they are
running away.

Spiked Roller Dog: These little spikey things like to curl up
into a ball and roll at you very fast. You can issen them easily
when like this, adn they don't take a lot of punishment anyway.
Can cause a fair amount of damage but go down easily. Use the
buraitou.

Tall Skeletal Demon: You can see the heart of these guys -
either purple or red. No significant difference. Sometimes they
just stand there and take a beating and at other times they seem
outraged. Use either the hyoujin-yari from a distance or the
dokoutsui (so powerful they won't be able to stand up properly
before you can get the next hit in).

Fat Blue Demon: carries a really large pole and will hit you
repeatedly with it. Will also do a flying kick for some reason.
Attack with the dokoutsui or the hyoujin-yari and block when he
tries to attack; all his attacks should be blockable. (This
demon also comes in a version that has spikes on the head, but
isn't really much different).

Blue soul sucker: Flies around like the blue blob that it is,
sucking up all the sould that are rightfully yours. Kill it with
the buraitou's secret attack before it flies away!

Yellow bull: big bull-ish monster with an axe. Dangerous but all
attacks are blockable (I think one isn't, but this is VERY
rare). Just attack and then block, attack then block, attack
then block....

Red Bull: hur hur, yeah very funny. Not the drink but the enemy.
ALL attacks are unblockable. Use magic attacks to kill it or see
the boss guide below.

Mermaid Claw: these things come out of the water and hurt you
with claws and water. There are large and small ones. The small
ones can be kill in a few hits and will attack be shooting a
small ball of water at you (block it) or latching onto your arm.
The large ones slash at you or shoot a large constant jet of
water that cannot be blocked (just get out of the way). Just use
the buraitou to kill them fairly easily, but wacth out for their
attacks.

Archers: Many creatures are archers, what you do is go up to
them and cut them up. Block every time you hear an arrow being
loosed. They die easily. If you cannot get close to them either
shoot using the bow and arrows or just run away.

Boss Guide

Boss 1: Ginghamphatts
This is the first boss you'll see, and as such pretty easy to
beat. At this stage you will have the first two weapons
(buraitou and hyoujin-yari), so at the start of the fight unless
all the magic attacks you can on him with these. Then the
standard combo attack or lunges with either weapon will kill
him.
His sword attack and dropping kick can hurt but are blockable,
so when he raises his arm or legs just press block. When he
jumps into the air move out of the way as quick as you can (not
that hard) because it is an UNblockable attack.

Boss 2: Gogandantess
Gogandantess, the greatest swordsman of all demons, is the next
boss you'll have to face. He is surrounded by an impenetrable
barrier, and you cannot hurt him. This makes things a bit
tricky.
Normally he will walk around a lot and then try and slash - most
of his attacks are blockable, so go for the block instead of
attacking back. Although don't be afraid of attacking him
because it keeps him at bay. His unblockable attacks are easily
detectable - his sword will go pink around the edges. There are
three of these: a far reaching lunge, a swipe and a hefty
downward blow. All three can be avoided if you spot it early
enough and run away. If you get into a position where your
swords are locked then tap square constantly - you may push him
away.
This battle seems to be timed, as there is no way of hurting
him. A cut scene will commence letting you know the fight is
over.

Boss 3: Ginghamphatts 2
Bit more difficult than last time, this one. You should have the
third sword by now (the senpumaru) so don't forget to use it's
magic to full effect. I wouldn't advise this weapon for use
against this boss apart from the magic attacks - it is really
best used against many opponents as it is weak but can hit more
than one enemy.
At intervals this boss (dpending on the amount of damage you
have inflicted) this boss will jump into the woods and start
running back and forth across your path. If he hits you he will
cause mucho damage, and the attack is unblockable, but don't
worry because you can tell where he will come from. The leaves
give him away - wherever leaves start to fall is where he will
run across. My technique is to go to one end of the corridor and
if leaves appear run like billio. It seems to work. Watch out -
when he gets low on health he runs across straight after the
leaves giving virtually no warning.
During the parts when he isn't running across, just fight him
like you did before, using any magic attacks and purple orbs to
your advantage. Take the opportunity to get a few hits in when
he starts to get his axe stuck into the trees.

Boss 4: Jujudormah
Urgh, evil pig lady. You'll know when this lady is going to
attack with her throwing things because she makes a "hah!"
noise. When you hear this do one of two things: stop and block
or keep running in a straight line perpendicular to her. Don't
run in a straight line away from her or you will die. The thing
to do is to get close to her and slash her. Stop slashing her as
soon as she starts to block, and when she starts to run away
slash her again. When running after her be careful not to run
right behind her or she'll do her butt bump and send you flying.
After a while she'll morph somewhere else and leave some orbs.
When low on health she'll start to run headlong at you like a
maniac - block all these hits and then as soon as they stop run
away, because after this sequence she unleashes a two part
attack with her umbrella, the second part of which is
unblockable. So the best thing to do is just get out of there.
Keep slashing at her and using magic attacks (purple orbs aren't
too good because she just blocks and you have to wait) and
she'll die, opening up a way through.

Boss 5: Gogandantess 2
Again seemingly timed, you just have to avoid his attacks. This
one is longer though, and you'll probably need to use healing
items. You should have some herbs and medecines stashed away.
There's not much advise I can give you on this one as it is
pretty much the same as before, still with teh unblockable
attacks, only now he throws knives. Easily blockable they are,
and shouldn't trouble you much.

Boss 6: The bulls
This fight is with Oyu, who can charge her weapon up to the full
degree by pressing R1. When you enter the ice room, charge your
weapon up to the third and highest degree and walk over to the
icicle in the middle. The first bull (yellow) will fall down,
and you should unleash a combo on this bad boy which will
probably kill him. If it doesn't, don't worry - his attacks are
all blockable so just keep pounding him.
When he's dead his elder brother, the red bul, will fall down.
This one is a lot harder. For a start all his attacks are
UNblockable, meaning you have to dodge or run away. First off,
press triangle to heighten the strength of your sword, and then
charge it to full power by holding R1. Go up to the beast and do
a combo, move away, charge and do another combo. The aim is to
do this without losing your triangle magic attack. About four of
these combos should do him.
He has an attack where he spins his axe and then brings it down,
flooring you, which is pretty hard to avoid. The "run round in a
circle" method doesn't seem to work effectively, so try moving
away. If he hits you with this, he will most probably try to hit
you again, so don't bother getting up until he has. If you do
get up, he will hit you while you are half way up, causing
damage that may kill you, whereas if you lie there it won't
cause any damage, leaving you free to get up afterwards.

Boss 7: Gogandantess 3
Straight away use the sacred flute and get rid of his shield.
Use all your magic attacks and any chances you have to turn into
the Onimusha. When these are gone, and all you have is normal
weapons, there is an easy way of beating him. See that crack in
th efloor that Oyu nearly fell into? Well you can't walk over
that, you have to walk round. So if you go on one side he will
probably try and slash at you from the other - missing. So get
out your longer weapons (hyoujin-yari spear is recommended) and
lunge at him. This causes great damage. If he comes around to
your side, just go to his side and you'll be back in the same
situation. This technique makes this battle A LOT easier, it'll
be over in about five minutes if you keep stabbing him.

Boss 8: Big Flying Soul Sucker
This is a big orange version of the blue flying soul suckers,
with lots of blue ones around him. The blue ones will come at
you, so just slash and kill them (issens seem to be frequent
here, increasing you rank). When they're all dead, the big one
will try to get you. Use the senpumaru's wind attack at first,
followed by the buraitou's magic attacks then the dokoutsui's
magic attacks. Stab him with the hyoujin yari or use the
buraitou's combos. This boss isn't too hard.

Boss 9: Gingamphatts 3
His most difficult form. At the start go up to him and use magic
attacks on him - he should give out some blue orbs to replenish
you. Also take advantage of the purple orbs. When you've
inflicted a bit of damage then his torso will separate from his
legs and start whizzing around in the air.
The torso is probably the bit you'll want to go for - use the
senpumaru wind attack and the buraitou attack if you can get
close enough. If you do decide to go all out for the torso
(which I'm pretty sure kills him quicker) then watch out for the
attacks of the legs - when they roll around just move closer to
the middle and they'll miss you. Attacking the legs does give
more orbs, especially when they're down, so don't be afraid to
just run away from the torso and attack the legs. The torso has
some unblockable attacks such as the downward axe smash, that
you'll have to learn to avoid. The dokoutsui's magic attack will
hurt both parts of him and turn the legs upside down - perfect
for some quick hits and easy orbs.

Boss 10: Nobunaga
For ages I thought this boss was impossible. He is quite hard.
His has two forms - standing and flying.
Standing: this is the first form. From the start use the
buraitou magic attacks followed by the dokoutsui magic attacks
followed by the hyoujin yari magic attacks. Save the senpumaru
for the flying form. When you've used all your magic, use the
buraitou sword to slash at him when you get the chance. This
battle revolves around knowing his attacks - only you can really
learn them. What you have to do is recognise what he does when
he's about to strike (his huge running lunge is the easiest to
spot) then move right and have a good few slashes. Keep doing
this until he begins to fly.
Flying form: this is a much harder and longer form, and comes in
several sub-forms (elemental). There is a lightning form, an ice
form, a wind form, an earth form and a fire form. Each one of
these has its own "DIE" attack, as I like to call them, because
that's what he says as he does them. Here they are:
Lightning - seen in the first game, dots move around the floor
and settle. When they settle, lightning strikes there. This is
easy to avoid - just keep on the move.
Ice - he will do a big lunge and if hit you will be stuck to the
floor with ice. Not very nice and harder to avoid, the trick is
to stay underneath him so that when he strikes he automatically
misses (he has to move slightly ouwards), this leaves him wide
open to loads of attacks.
Wind - this attack is horrible. He sends a tornado after you,
adn you have to run around in a circle to avoid it. Never let it
trap you in a corner, because it hits you several times. He
isn't afraid to send absolutely loads of these one after the
other, so be prepared.
Earth - boulders fall from the sky and hit you. This is pretty
hard to avoid, but once again stay underneath him and you should
be able to step out of the way in time.
Fire - possibly the hardest form. He plunges his sword into the
ground and fire goes along the ground in a line to where you
are. With this one, DO NOT stay underneath him, stay as far away
as possible. This way you can cover more distance before the
fire gets to you and can avoid it much easier. When he is low on
health he will do three of these attacks in a row.
As well as these "DIE" attacks each one also has a slash attack
that can be blocked. Sometimes he will go to the end of the room
and crouch for some reason, protected by a barrier. I always
slash at this barrier for the whole time he's in it and orbs are
released at the end. After this he will swoop up again -
although sometimes he comes back down nearer to tehe grouns
straight after, an excellent opportunity to use the burraitou
magic attack, especially as he is cornered!
Keep at him and using these techniques as well as developing
your own adn you should be able to defeat him.

Boss 11: Golden Evil Statue........Final Boss!
This guy isn't as hard as Nobunaga. You don't have any of your
weapons but you are permanently the Onimusha. You fire little
purple things at points on the statue, and when all the points
are gone you are the victor.
When he does his weaving eye-rays just stand to one side, and
when he does the eye-rays that are trained on you just strafe
out of the way. If he hold his hand up and red marks appear on
the ground then get out of the way of them quick, as rocks will
start to appear from underneath you. It is important to keep
firing all the time during this fight to ensure a speedy
victory. When the masks start circlying and coming at you you
need to strafe out of the way while still shooting. When his
head falls back you've won......see, told you it wasn't that
hard.
