Retro Game Walkthroughs for SOCOM: US Navy Seals (PlayStation 2)
Submitted By: El Pinko
Yes its that time again, time I brief those of you who need briefing, teach those of you who need teaching, preach to those of you who need… oh you get the picture, I’m here to help. This time around I’m going to take you through the ins and outs of a ‘Demolition’ game in the world of SOCOM: US Navy SEALs. Before we even begin, you need to set a few things up. Firstly, get yourself some preset messages, so that, in the event of comms not working, you can still deliver some basic messages to your fellow teammates. You wan to have the following messages, “They’re at our base!” “I’m at their base” “Claymore’s” “Help”. That should prove helpful. As this is a game with an additional objective (planting a bomb) there is more than one way of winning. To plant the bomb, you must first collect it (it will be on the radar), then take it to the enemy base (again on the radar) stand over the coloured area, look at the floor and press and hold ‘X’ until the gauge fills up. When a bomb is planted, I recommend throwing smoke grenades around it, this will make it more difficult to find and therefore defuse. Now then, lets crack on with the first map!

BITTER JUNGLE – Easily the worst map in the whole game, but unfortunately that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist, so let’s talk about keeping you alive.

SEALS – Ok seals, this level is full of shrubbery and corners, so a silenced weapon may be useful, if you feel comfortable with it, otherwise grab a rapid gun of some form (there’s no point sniping, to much scenery gets in the way). Now, you’ve got one three main lines of attack from your starting point, the cave on your left (North) that’s right, I looked at the compass before writing this walkthrough! So, cave to your north, along the cliff on your right (South East) or straight through the middle and around the rocks! If your planning on planting the bomb then you’ll need to send at least one man into the middle to get it, but I’d recommend three so that he’s got some cover. If you do retrieve the bomb then its time to play tactically! Rather than continue through the middle, which the enemy will expect, backtrack a little and enter the north cave, now follow this round to the enemy base and plant the bomb. I do have a strategy I like to use for this level, if you’re in a clan or a match where the team use comms and work together then here’s what you do. Send three men into the middle for the bomb; send the rest of your men either left or right and everyone hold position at a point where your teammates can catch you up. Once you’ve got the bomb, catch up with your comrades who should be waiting at either the left or right for you. When your all together storm in the direction of the enemy base, smoke grenade it and plant the bomb, then guard it, taking cover behind rocks and tree’s. When this has worked, switch the side you storm from, this should make it easier for you. If your base keeps getting bombed and you want to guard it then get yourself some claymores, plant them randomly around your base and get hidden (I recommend either the cut in behind the cabin to the south or the cave entrance to the north). Then, when your enemy turns up, blow them up and shoot them down, if you have enough people in the ambush, you’ll reap the kills! Your best bet for this map is to let your enemy come to you, if you run out to far you’ll be surrounded without even realising!

TERRORSTS – As I’ve already stated, worst level. If you want to stay alive then stay together! From the start you’ve only got two options, you can either go south into the cave, or west into the grass, but I’m afraid there’s no cliffs for you to climb! The cave is narrow and doesn’t have much in the ways of places to go to dodge grenades so I’d recommend through the arena. You can get to the bomb quicker also, so I’d recommend splitting into two groups, the ‘bomb retrieval’ group and the ‘distraction’ group. Now make your distraction group run round one side of the large rock located in front of the terrorist base, and make them fire their guns and lob grenades, this’ll distract the SEALs so you can run in and grab the bomb. Once you’ve got the bomb head away from the distraction group and sneak into the SEAL base and plant it, not the distraction group should push the SEALs back into their own base, and you’ll win. Note that you want to alternate who is in what team and what routs the team takes for this plan to be successful. If you decide that you want to be defensive then you’ll need a few things, Claymores and HE grenades. Now, luckily for you guys, you’ve got the batter place to camp in, more hiding places and better cover. Here’s what you do, place claymores randomly around the area (behind the sandbanks is a good place as SEALs wont spot them till their in range) now once they’re placed, hide. I recommend either in the cave, behind the big tree, behind the sand banks or behind some rocks (see what I mean by more places?). When the SEALs show up, lob some grenades and get things going, but stay hidden, when they decide to storm you, detonate your grenades and reap the kills. Easy peasy.

MY FINAL RECOMMENDATIONS: - Teamwork is the best way to negotiate this excuse for a map, so don’t go Rambo, I know the jungles tempting, but it wont get you anywhere so don’t do it. Also, pick a weapon your comfortable with, don’t just go with the flow, variation is always better. My level rating for this level is 1/10…ok that’s a little harsh, it can have 3/10, now get it out of my sight!

BLIZZARD – Ah, a nice strategy map, plenty of room for planning and a snipers heaven, so let’s get down to the business of keeping you alive!

SEALS – Ok SEALS, as far as I’m concerned there’s only one sniper rifle to use, the M87ELR, its slow, but if you are steady with it you get one hit kills. Also I’d recommend a silenced pistol with that, so if you get up close to someone you can take him or her out quietly! Admittedly the entire SEAL base is a nice sniping point as it’s located on a cliff, but if you want to branch out then there’s a nice mound on the right of the SEAL base (North-East). I’d also like to point out that if the enemy keep getting the bomb then you can lie at the middle of your base and get a snipers view on the bomb cabin, so take out the bomb retriever! Now then, if snipping is not for you then grab a silenced weapon, you wont believe how much it helps! If you do choose to use a loud gun then do your friends a favour and stay away from them, nothings more annoyed than when someone shoots their gun and gives away your hiding place! Now there’s plenty of trees on this level, and hiding behind them does keep you covered. I recommend if you suspect a sniper in the area, weaving from tree to tree makes you a harder target! This is a bit of a difficult level if you want to camp, but no impossible. You need 3 men with claymores, set up one set at the canyon on the left and one set on the right, then your final set at the point of the cliff that is climbable. Now get the hell outa sight, and I mean snipers sight, and if you want to, lob some grenades off the cliff, you never know, you might get lucky! Now, the terrorist base has a good set up for camping, to break through you’ll need timing, and a lot of smoke grenades. Have someone stand outside the terrorist base and throw grenades through the windows, then, smoke the stair well and charge up, if your using a silenced gun they wont even know your in. If you want to get the bomb on this map then go straight down the middle of the cliff, dropping from ledge to ledge, then run straight to the hut, as long as the enemy aren’t throwing grenades, you’ll have a good ten seconds on them, so use this to get in, get out and regroup. Now regroup and stick together, make you way to the terrorist base however you see fit, but move in groups of two, that way you’re not easy for snipers. Now plant and wait.

TERRORISTS – Terrorists, sniping is a good idea, also, when you know your getting this map, pick terrorist outfit number 4, its mostly white and this camouflages you better than any alternative on offer. If you are going to sniper, then use your base, its perfect, go upstairs and through the door onto the roof, from here you can lay flat and see all the entrances to your base, and since your laying flat your VERY difficult to spot! Another good spot is the mountain behind the bomb hut, you can kill all who go for the bomb and see quite a few SEAL sniper points. If you want to camp you’ve got a real advantage, just put claymores at the bottom of the stairs and around the bottom floor, then hide up top and lay flat (if grenades come in they’ll hurt you less). If you suspect the enemy of camping, it’s fairly easy to break through, just run in a group and lob lots of grenades. If you want to get the bomb and plant it then you need to charge toward it in a group, leaving room between you in case you get bombed. The best route to take is to follow the lamp posts on the right, it leads you straight to the hut and is quickest, when you arrive, lob a smoke grenade (this way, it’ll be hard for a sniper to hit you) once you’ve got the bomb, regroup and head for the SEAL base.

MY FINAL RECCOMENDATIONS
This level is more of a shoot or be shot than a strategy level, admittedly hiding and ambushing can be more effective, but finding a good hiding place that wont be found, bombed, sniped or anything else is impossible! Play about and develop your own strategy.

THE RUINS – This is a great level, ton of routes, sniping points and general battlegrounds!

SEALS – If you’re a seal then there is an option open to you that can be quite useful, hiding in the reeds in the river with a silenced weapon. If you have patience then the enemy will come to you and you can kill then quietly. If you wait in the reeds at the exit of the central bomb area, you can kill any unsuspecting terrorists seconds after they retrieve the bomb! If your not in the mood for silenced weapons and you just want a battle then I recommend running round the left edge of the central temple, as usually everyone goes right, this will give you an edge allowing you to come up behind everyone, reaping the kills, but you’ll need to keep your wits about you as there’s a lot of bushes around prime for people to be hiding in! Another great route for running is up the wall that surrounds the arena, from here you can travel around the whole area, and if you come under fire from below, there should always be somewhere to take cover. If you decide you want to play defensive, seals have got as much more flexible base. Firstly, if your dandy with a sniper rifle then you’ll find it best to climb up to the sniper point in the middle of the map and lay flat, so no one can hit you, then pick off anyone who approaches your base. If you want to actually get stuck in where the action s, you need some claymores, then get covered by the table and alcove in your base. Sit in here and detonate if anyone arrives, if they’re not dead then finish them off with your automatic weapon, no problem. The more people who stick around the better, but be sure to spread apart, as close together might get you all killed by a grenade! If you want to play offensive, then split into two groups, have one group of 3, and one group with the remainder. The group of 3 need to go for the bomb, but when they actually reach it, hold position and not collect it. Wait until the other team have gone around the right hand side and are storming the terrorist area, when the gun fight kicks off, grab the bomb and head down the water, following the current, have the other group head towards the terrorist base, then place it, smoke it and run.

TERRORISTS – Being a terrorist there are a couple of things you’ll need, plenty of explosives, bit fast machine guns and a desert eagle. When ever your moving through the water, use you grenades as a path tester, if you lob a grenade in the direction of the reeds, a seal will run out if he’s hiding there, giving you plenty of time to finish him off, especially if the explosion knocks him over! When moving as a terrorist, I like to stay low, moving through the building and rubble, that way its difficult to hit you with lucky shots, and snipers will find it very difficult to get a clean shot. If your team decide they want to play defensive, you’ll need as much man power as you can get. You need to get someone in the base, someone at the bottom of the stairs, someone on the wall, and other people just to help out. Get some claymores set-up, and find some nice places to hide. When the cavalry arrives, blow them up and kick off with a firefight, so long as everyone is nearby, you should demolish everyone! If the bomb gets planted, smoke grenade it, then use the smoke to cover you as you defuse it, with a fire fight going on, no one should notice you at work until its to late! If you want to play offensive, you need to do the exact same play as the seals. Two teams, one to retrieve the bomb, one to distract the enemy and deplete their numbers. When you reach the seal base, you must be weary of snipers and claymores. I recommend going grenade crazy, blowing up the base so much that the seals bail, panic and detonate their claymores. Smoke grenades will also help you as they can be used to mislead the enemy. Sending one person to the seal sniper point could be useful, have them check for a sniper, then use that point to their advantage, getting a look in on the seal base! When playing this map, you need to be weary of the enemy using silenced weapons, if the opportunity arises and you want to, steal a seal gun then hide in the reeds.

MY FINAL RECCOMENDATIONS
This level is huge, so explore, find areas that suit your skills. There’s something for everyone, sniping points, ambush points, camping points…pretty much all of the games strong points. Sticking together is always good as it can keep you covered in those tough spots. Make full use of your comms and plan some attacks for the best results.

Thanks for reading this walkthrough, I hope its helped you out. And remember, El Pinko, if you see me online, feel free to chat and ask questions. Good luck to all.

Hello and welcome to ‘SOCOM: Online – Suppression’, where I, the masked gamer will give you the low-down of SOCOM online telling you of maps and strategies before finally revealing who I am. This walkthrough is designed to help keep you alive in the online gaming world, stop people from thinking you’re an easy kill, stop you from being the one who’s man downed first! So, before you even start, set up your preset messages, you’ll want to be able to say “Help” “Claymores” “Over here” and “Follow me”, this way, if the comms are down, you can still get some basic messages to your team. Next up you need to find a gun that suits your needs. So work out whether you’re accurate and want to shoot to kill, or if you want to spray bullets in the enemy direction until they go down. Suppression games are all about killing, there are no sub-objectives, its kill or be killed! This means you needn’t worry about being to far away from bases or anything like that. Now, when choosing a game, never enter the “Noobs” rooms, they’ve been set up by pro’s and you’ll get slaughtered! Right, now you’re ready for the first map.

ABANDONED – This is a massive map with many places to go and many things to do. So lets talk tactics!

SEALs – Ok seals, you’ve got a lot going for you right now, your wearing camouflaged clothing and you have access to silenced weapons, meaning from a distance you can be hard to spot and firing wont give away your position! Some great places to do this from are the large grassy mound on the right of the terrorist base (the fog conceals you excellently), Walking along the mountain at the upper left of the seal base (again the fog works for you). Now then, what you should have noticed about the two places I have told you is they are both high up, giving you a great view of a lot of the map, meaning, if you grab yourself a sniper rifle you can be a hard to spot, silent, long distance murderer! But be weary, being high up puts you in view of others snipers, and should you be spotted by one, it’s a bit hard to miss. Not handy with a scoped-rifle? Never mind, you can either be an offensive fast shooter or a defensive tactitional planner. Fast shooters, there are a few routes to be brought to your attention, firstly, running upper left and through the tunnel, works, but there’s a blind corner in the tunnel to turn, so I recommend lobbing a grenade before you go through. Through the archway from where you start gives you two options, leap the broken bridge, which is quick, but in full view making you an easy target, or you could leap down the hole parallel to the archway and drop into the flooded tombs, there you are un-spotable and can infiltrate the Terrorist base without being seen, the only flaw is, if someone else is down there with you, they’ll hear you coming a mile off due the knee deep water, but this can work as an advantage as you can hear them coming…I’ll let you decide whether it helps you or not! Finally you can run through the trench on the right and either you up a tunnel to the top of the temple situated in the middle of the level, or you can go into the catacombs that take you underneath the before mentioned ramp (I wouldn’t recommend going there unless your planning an ambush and have some claymore’s). So we’ve covered your offensive and your and your best ambush points, now lets talk defensive! For whatever reason you want to keep out of site, and need to know some of the best places, we’ll, unfortunately, this level is mainly open spaces and so your often exposed, but however, there is one place that works well for the old claymore round corner trick, the catacombs under the central temple. The quickest way there from the seal base is through the canyon on the right then through the flooded tunnel, if you make good use of your time you can be there in 25 seconds and have claymores set up within 35 seconds, then all you have to do is wait until they come you. The quickest way from the terrorist base is left and then through the doorway in one of the supporting pillars under the central temple.

TERRORISTS – Terrorists, this is a tough map for you so you need to be well prepared! Firstly, if your going for a run round the right hand side then for gods sake wait behind the big tree, if you go any further ahead you’ll be spotted from a mile of and blown up with a grenade (The tree also acts as a great ambush point as 99% of seals will run past it without giving it a second glance). If your not running right then I would recommend hitting the river in front of you when you start, if you try to cross the broken bridge you’ll be in full view of the seal team, so cut through the river and use the shrubbery, that’s what the programmers put it there for! Unfortunately, other than this, the only other ways will take to long to reach and by the time your actually ready everyone will be well and truly into battle. If your feeling particularly jammy then you could try climbing the temple in the centre, going down the left hand tunnel and going through the canyon or the right hand side of seal base, this might get you behind everyone, but be weary on people hiding in the fog. If you want to play the old defensive on this one the go for the catacombs that I mentioned before, you can get there quicker than the seals, this also means you can be ready for that crafty seal planning on camping there. If you’re the last man on your team then you could try turning around from where you start, going to the top of the broken terrorist base (It’s a temple), lay a claymore at the top of the stairs and lay on the other side, you cant be seen and you can blow anyone up that comes for you, you need to be patient though, and try not to draw much attention to yourself as it gives away where you are, and you loose the advantage.

My final recommendations: - If you’re a seal then use a M4A1, silencer optional, If you’re a Terrorist use a 552 or a AKS-74, whichever your more comfortable with. There’s no point is having smoke grenades so switch those for something that’ll do some damage, and its up to you whether you want ammunition or claymores, depends on whether you are a fighter or a camper. I personally have grenades, HE grenades and claymores. My level rating for this is 9/10.

FROSTFIRE – I hate this map, its dark so you need the curtains drawn and I just dislike it, but it could be a lot worse! Not many places to camp, but not exactly a battle ground, so it takes a bit of getting used to.

SEALS – Ok for the love of god get yourself a silenced weapon, this is a dark level and you’re dressed in black, it’s perfect (and annoying for the other team). Get yourself a HK5SD or and M4A1SD (dependant on whether you want speed or accuracy) and get yourself a friend, as this is a cluttery level and you’ll find groups of people. From the start I recommend getting the hell outa sight, either go down the tunnel in front of you or climb the oilrig behind you. I find that if you select the sniper rifle, lay flat on the ground and look toward the terrorist base you can pick them off if they come for you in a kamikaze style. If you choose to run and go for the tunnel then just follow it round and ease yourself out onto the open, checking your clear before stepping into the open, now move straight ahead towards the terrorist base, eyes peeled for any unsuspecting victims. When you reach the terrorist base grenade it before entering, after you’ve checked the top, enter offices, smoke ‘em, grenade ‘em then storm ‘em. If you choose to climb the oil rig then lob grenades to your right and you’ll probably get someone as you can get grenades all the way to the terrorist base when your standing up. When you’re done the drop down the hole located on top of the offices and follow the corridor round till you underneath the terrorist base. If you can get it organised and you want to play defensive then get into the tunnels and organise it so that you claymore one entrance and someone else does the other, now you can hide in the shadows and wait (you need to be able to trust the other guy not to run off, if he does then you’ll just get shot from behind). If you suspect the enemy are camping in the tunnels then you’ve got a bit of work to do, firstly get one man on each side of the tunnels entrances, then send a third man to go above the tunnels and look through the steel grating that’s closest to where you suspect your enemy of being. Then, both men guarding the exits should lob smoke grenades, followed by offensive, and your on top man should fire through the grating, in all the panic he’ll think your in and set of his claymores, once he does you can waltz in and kill him!

TERRORISTS – Right, there’s not a lot going for you at all on this level, your enemies are camouflaged and have the ability to use silenced weapons. You’re going to need to use tactics to stay alive. If you just want to do damage and don’t really care about dying quickly, then jump over the railing in your base and run down the middle straight toward the seals, you can get there in 7 seconds and anyone who hasn’t got they’re act together or is sneaking around is yours for the taking, but be warned, all the seals will still be around, so get in but don’t stay for long! And also, if they’ve read this guide then they might snipe you before you arrive. Now, its a lot easier to spot the SEALs up close than it is from a distance, meaning you don’t want to step out into the open cause if you get shot at and they’ve got a silenced weapon you’ll be dead before you spot them. My favourite place to go is the offices at the terrorist base, get in there, with two friends, put claymores on both doors and then get out of site, if the grenade you and smoke you then DON’T detonate until you can see them, and feel free to stand in the smoke and lob a grenade at them, they wont be expecting that. Otherwise camp in the tunnels, get claymores in the entrances, and hide in the shadows (make sure your not bellow a steel grate) and again, if they grenade then don’t detonate until you see them, if you set your claymores off to soon then you’ve got no defence and they know it! If you suspect the enemy of camping then all I can say is read the above comment in the SEALs guide, use the exact same strategy and you should be fine.

My final recommendations: - That’s all I can really say about this level, personally I recon it’s the second worst map in the game, but I’ve met people who really love it, so decide for yourself! Stick together and you’ll stand a fair chance. My rating for this level is 6/10.

RATS NEST – Great level for fighting, all enclosed so there’s not much chance of being picked off by a sniper. If you want to stay alive you’re going to need to know how to set up camp and break through camp.

SEALS – Ok seals, camouflage is slightly helpful here, but your not really invisible so I wouldn’t try the old ‘sit still and they wont spot you’ trick. Also I wouldn’t bother with a silencer, as it’s almost impossible to shoot and stay hidden so it’s not worth loosing the accuracy on your gun. From the start you have two choices of path, left or right, left will get you straight into a battle as it’s the quickest way to the terrorists and they’re probably coming the same way (and there’s almost always one terrorist waiting behind the rock, but you’ll usually get about three! So here’s what I recommend for the first few rounds (they wont be expecting this unless they’ve read the section bellow) sent two men round the left to the rock, get them to find a place of cover and throw some grenades, now when your two men go left, send one man right, then up the ladder on his left, this’ll take him over the bridge and up to the rock where the terrorists are sitting, but they’ll be to busy watching the two mad seals throwing grenades to notice you coming in behind them, so you can just reap the free kills. If your planning on charging round then go right, but I cant recommend much more except take a rapid-fire weapon and a friend with you. Now then, setting up camp. You’ll need some claymores and a rapid-fire weapon, the more people doing this the easier it’ll be. Stick one claymore on each entrance to your base and take cover by a rock (if multiple people are doing this then spread yourself out) now wait until the terrorists turn up and when they come in the entrance blow them up (if need be then finish them off with machine guns) If you synchronise your detonations then there’s no chance of having a weak defence, one thing I will say is check whether friendly fire is on or not, you don’t want to end up on negative kills or getting voted out of the game! Ok, so you’ve got a SEAL defence, now you need to know how to break through a terrorist defence. Firstly, if your planning on going John McLain on this one then you will fail, it VERY difficult to get past the defences, and even if you succeed at that you’ve then got a lot of terrorists to fight! The key to breaking through defence is teamwork. Split into two groups of two (more if you have more men) Send each team to either entrance of the terrorist base (keep both teams out of sight) now synchronise your attacks, have one team go crazy lobbing grenades and firing of loud guns like mad men, after about 10 seconds of this send your other team in with silenced weapons, if all goes to plan and with a little luck, no terrorists will be looking and with silenced weapons they shouldn’t realise they’re being shot from behind. My advice on this level is stick together, everywhere is narrow, so it’s always easy to bum into groups of people!

TERRORISTS – Ok fellas, this level is quite nice for terrorists as it’s all enclosed and terrorists have access to the fast weapons (like the 9mm sub!) so arm yourself with a beast and you’ll be fine. If your going solo then don’t go out the right exit, you’ll get mowed down! Instead go left and take the long hike round to the seal base, you’ll get far less trouble and come up behind the seals. I would say stick together lads, it’s your best bet by far (nothings more shocking than when four terrorists shoot at you!) also, don’t fire unless its necessary, that way the seals wont know where to look for you, giving you the element of surprise! Now then, setting up a good terrorist defence! You need two or more men, some claymores (at least two men must have these) and some grenades. As soon as the match kicks off go out of one of the two terrorists entrances, place some claymores out of sight, making sure that one man has done the opposite entrance to you, now come back up into the terrorist base and get out of sight (but make sure you can see the entrance where your claymores are placed) now sit and watch. If you get and smoke grenades appearing then start lobbing regular grenades down the tunnel and don’t stop (if you sacrifice double ammo then you can have 12 grenades so let the explosions begin) If your team-mate starts coming under fire don’t leave your post, if you do then you’ll get invaded, just et him and anyone who’s helping him deal with it. That my friend is a very difficult defence to break, but it takes teamwork and faith in other player’s abilities to work! Now then, breaking through the seal defence, tricky but very do-able with some teamwork and co-operation. You need to get at least two men on either entrance of the seal base, then lob grenades and smoke grenades in from both sides, send ONE man in on each side, then leave a 5 second gap and follow (this way, if claymores are in place you wont all die) now storm it and blow some brains out. My advice to you on this level is the same as my advice to the seals, stick together and use your comms.

MY FINAL RECOMANDATIONS – Stay together, use comms and teamwork, fast weapons and guts. This map it a great one for strategy, so don’t be afraid to experiment with ideas! My level rating for this is 10/10.

So there you have it, with all that knowledge under your belt you should be able to get a lot of kills, and with a little practice you’ll have MVP in no time and people will be nagging you to join there clans. But who am I here you ask? Well, I am…*dramatic music*… El Pinko. Lookout for me online, I’m always happy to help my team mates out. Above all, have fun, I hope I’ve helped! Until next time!
