Retro Game Walkthroughs for Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire (Game Boy Advance)
Submitted By: cheater22
•You'll first arrive in Littleroot Town. After talking to your rival in the house next to yours, head up to Route 101, choose your starting Pokemon (either Treecko, Torchic, or Mudkip), then save Professor Birch.

•Leave Littleroot Town and head for Rustboro City (you'll have to pass through Oldale Town and Petalburg City first). Catch some Pokemon at this point (preferably a Zigzagoon and a Wingull, although try to catch everything you see that you don't have already) and train them up to a decent level (6-8 is fine, and try to have your starter at 10-12).

•In Petalburg, meet with your father, Norman, in the Petalburg Gym. You'll meet Wally there, and you'll help him catch his first Pokemon. After you do so, you can leave.

•Enter Petalburg Forest and save the Devon Corp. Worker from Team Aqua/Magma. Then, train a bit in the forest, and head north to Rustboro City. Try to have at least 3 of your Pokemon at or above level 14. Also try to have your party contain at least one of the following: ◦Mudkip
◦Marshtomp
◦Treecko
◦Grovyle
◦Combusken
◦Shroomish
◦Lotad
◦Lombre
◦Seedot
◦Nuzleaf
◦Wingull
◦Oddish

•Obtain HM01 from Cutter inside his house in Rustboro City. Teach it to a Zigzagoon if you have one.

Roxanne can be a bit tricky if you don't have the right Pokemon. Be sure to bring along at least 2 Pokemon that possess a Water, Grass, or Fighting-type move if you want to win.

Getting the Knuckle Badge

•After defeating Roxanne, you'll witness a Team Aqua/Magma member run off with the Devon Corp's Goods. Follow them north then east to Route 116 to retrieve them!

•Arrive in the Rusturf Tunnel, and fight the Team Aqua/Magma Grunt to save the Goods and Mr. Briney's Wingull, Peeko.

•Talk to the Devon Corp. President, Mr. Stone, and accept his request for you to deliver a Letter to his son, Steven, and to deliver the Devon Goods to Capt. Stern in Slateport City. You'll also receive the PokeNav from Mr. Stone.

•Return to the southern edge of the Petalburg Woods on Route 104 and talk to Mr. Briney to set sail for Dewford Town!

•Battle with Brawly for the Knuckle Badge!

Against Brawly, try to make sure at least 3 or 4 of your Pokemon are at level 16 to 18 (or higher). Attack him and try to Knock Out his two Pokemon as quickly as possible. If you cannot defeat them fast enough, they'll use Bulk Up to increase their Attack and Defense drastically, so be sure to take them out as quickly as possible. Try to have at least 2 Pokemon that have a Psychic or Flying-type move, or have at least 2 Pokemon with a Poison, Psychic, or Flying type or subtype for resistance to their attacks.

Getting the Dynamo Badge

•Head north into the Granite Cave in search of Steven. Be sure to talk to the first Hiker you see inside of the cave to receive HM05 (Flash)! The following Pokemon that you might have at this point can learn Flash:

◦Beautifly or Dustox
◦Lotad/Lombre or Seedot/Nuzleaf
◦Ralts/Kirlia
◦Oddish/Gloom

•Find Steven in the cave and give him the Letter. He'll give you TM47 (Steel Wing). Then, leave the Granite Cave. Be sure to try and catch a Mawile (Ruby-only), Sableye (Sapphire-only), and Aron (Both Versions) before you go.

•Talk to Mr. Briney again, but set sail for Slateport City this time.

•Arrive in Slateport City, and talk to Dock inside of the Shipyard. Dock will then tell you to go to the Museum, where Capt. Stern is right now.

•Go to the Museum and fight the Team Aqua/Magma members infesting it. On the top floor, defeat the Aqua/Magma Grunts, then give Capt. Stern the Devon Goods.

•Head north to Route 110 and fight your Rival again. After you beat him/her, he/she'll give you the Itemfinder, then leave. Try to get at least 4 of your Pokemon above level 20 before reaching Mauville City (although if you need to heal at the Pokemon Center, feel free to do so). Also, be careful, you'll get Paralyzed a lot here, so be sure to pack lots of Parlyz Heals and Full Heals.

•Arrive in Mauville, and talk to the man in one of the houses to receive HM06 (Rock Smash). Also, talk to the owner of the Bike Shop for a free Acro or Mach Bike. You can switch Bikes anytime you're in Mauville City, so don't worry about only getting the one.

•Defeat Wally and his Level 16 Ralts in front of the Mauville City Gym.

•Begin the showdown with Wattson, and earn the Dynamo Badge!

Be very cautious - Wattson has two Steel-type Pokemon in his array of Electric-type Pokemon. Steel-type Pokemon can be very difficult to take down due to their vast resistances to the various types. Try to use Fire, Fighting, or Ground-type attacks against the Magnemite and Magneton, and use anything other than Flying, Electric, and Water moves against the Voltorb. Watch out for the Voltorb though - it can use Self-Destruct, dealing a great deal of damage (possibly a Knock Out) to your Active Pokemon at the expense of Knocking itself Out. Be very careful of the Magneton in particular - it can be a real pain to beat. Try to have plenty of Parlyz Heals and Super Potions/Lemonades in your inventory before entering the battle.

Getting the Heat Badge

•Head west towards Verdanturf, and meet with Wally and his relatives. You can find them inside of Wanda's House.

•Enter the Rusturf Tunnel from the Verdanturf entrance, and use Rock Smash on the rocks blocking passage through the cave. Wanda' boyfriend will give you HM04 (Strength) for doing this. You'll also be able to return to Rustboro easily from now on.

•Optional - return to Rustboro and talk to Mr. Stone to receive the extremely helpful Exp. Share item. You can do this at any point from now on, but you might as well do it now.

•Return to Mauville, then head north to Route 111. Use Rock Smash on the rocks blocking the path, and then continue heading north. You can't go through the desert at this point, but you'll be able to soon enough.

•Learn of Team Aqua/Magma's plans by talking to them at the Chimney cable car station on Route 112. You'll learn that they've started heading toward Fallarbor town.

•Pass through the Fiery Path, catching some Fire-type Pokemon along the way, and then head north, then west through Route 113 until you arrive at Fallarbor town. You might also want to train at Route 113 and catch a Skarmory there as well.

•Enter Professor Cozmo's lab (on the southern edge of town) and talk to his assistant to learn that he went to Meteor Falls along with Team Aqua/Magma. Also, talk to Lanette in the Pokemon Center, and you'll learn that she designed the Box Storage systems, and invites you to visit her house sometime.

•Continue heading west, then south until you reach Meteor Falls. Be sure to try and get your Pokemon up to at or above Level 25 or 26 before continuing. You can also visit Lanette's house on Route 114 (the one that the entrance to Meteor Falls is on).

•Confront Team Aqua/Magma and fight for the Meteorite! After you beat them, the other Team (Aqua if you're playing Ruby, and Magma if you're playing Sapphire) will appear and tell you that Team Aqua/Magma are their fierce adversaries, and they must be stopped or else they'll either dry up all of the oceans (Ruby) or flood the world (Sapphire).

•Return to the Cable car station, which is now available for use, and chase down the Team Aqua/Magma members to the top of Mt. Chimney!

•Defeat either Maxie (Ruby) or Archie (Sapphire), the leader of Team Aqua/Magma, and reclaim the stolen Meteorite!

•Take the southern exit on top of Mt. Chimney to enter the Jagged Pass. Climb down to the bottom of the pass, and be sure to head west when you arrive at the bottom of Jagged Pass to enter Lavaridge Town.

•Talk to the Old Lady outside of the Hot Springs to receive the Wynaut Egg!

Also try to have all of your Pokemon at or above Level 28 before taking her on. Watch out for Overheat, a powerful Fire-type move that lowers the user's Special Attack by two levels after it's been used. It's a very powerful Fire-type move, and will do a great deal of damage to your Pokemon the first time it's used. Try to take her Pokemon out quickly, although feel free to take your time and let her use Overheat until her Pokemon's Special Attack is lowered so much that nothing will do any damage to you anymore.

Getting the Balance Badge

•Immediately after you exit the Lavaridge Gym, your rival will arrive and give you the Go-Goggles, which will allow you to pass through the Sandstorm on Route 111.

•Consider doing some training at this point. The next Gym Leader is quite hard. Try to train a Fighting-type, Rock-type, or Ghost-type (unaccessable at this point, but you might be able to trade for one) Pokemon, as the next Gym Leader uses Normal-type Pokemon. Try to get all of your Pokemon to Level 30 or above before arriving at your next location.

•Backtrack to Petalburg City, and enter the Petalburg Gym. Get ready to go head-to-head with the Petalburg City Gym Leader - your father, Norman!

His Slakings both have very high HP, Attack, and Defense power, so consider the Pokemon you wish to use to counter them wisely. The Vigoroth shouldn't give you too much trouble. Both of the Slakings have the Ability Truant, which means they can only attack you every other turn. Use that knowledge wisely. Try to have your Pokemon take out the Slakings as quickly as possible, because they'll do heavy damage to your Pokemon. Also try to avoid inflicting Poison, Burn, or Paralysis on Norman's Pokemon, otherwise their Facade attacks will deal twice as much damage. Before entering the battle, try to stock up on Revives and Super Potions/Lemonades.

Stone Badge | Knuckle Badge | Dynamo Badge | Heat Badge | Balance Badge | Feather Badge | Mind Badge | Rain Badge | Elite Four

Getting the Feather Badge

•Talk to Wally's Parents in Petalburg City to receive HM03 (Surf)! Surf is a really good Water-type move that I'd recommend teaching to any Water-type Pokemon you might have. A lot of Normal-type Pokemon can learn Surf as well, so consider teaching it to them instead if you have no Water-type Pokemon on your team.

•Optional - Return to Littleroot Town and talk to your Mom to receive the Amulet Coin, which, when attached to a Pokemon that participated in a Trainer battle, doubles the amount of money you'll earn from the fight. You can do this at any time now, but Littleroot is so close, so you might as well just do it now.

•Return to Mauville City, then Surf across the river to the east on Route 118. You'll encounter Steven there, although he won't give you anything other than information.

•Head north to Route 119, and enter the Aqua/Magma infested Weather Institute.

•Defeat the Team Aqua/Magma members inside. The gracious professor will give you a Castform with a Mystic Water attached for doing so. Be sure to heal your Pokemon inside, because you'll have to fight your rival soon.

•After crossing the bridge next to the Weather Institute, you'll encounter your rival again. Defeat him/her in battle, and he/she'll give you HM02 (Fly)! Unfortunately you can't use it outside of battle just yet, but you'll be able to shortly.

•Arrive in Fortree City. As you try to enter the Gym, you'll notice the path is blocked by an unseen entity. Don't worry about this for now, and keep heading west to Route 120.

•Encounter Steven again on the bridge. He'll give you the Devon Scope, allowing you to see the "invisible obstacle". He'll use the Devon Scope on the obstacle, and it'll reveal itself to be a Kecleon. You can either catch or Knock Out the Level 30 Kecleon. There'll be several more for you to fight, so don't worry if you accidently Knock it Out.

•Return to the Fortree Gym, use the Devon Scope on the invisible Pokemon, and either catch it or Knock it Out. Either way, the "obstacle" has been removed, and you can now enter the Gym.

•Enter the Fortree City Gym, and get ready to claim the Feather Badge by besting Winona in battle!

Try to have your Pokemon all at or above Level 34 before entering the battle. Against Winona, try to have several Pokemon with Electric, Rock, or Ice-type (unlikely at this point in the game) moves available. Electric-type attacks should take out the Swellow and Pelipper with little difficulty - most likely in one hit. Just watch out, because Electric-type attacks only strike with normal effectiveness against the Electric-resistant Steel and Dragon-typed Skarmory and Altaria. Still, a Pokemon with a nice Rock-type or Fire-type move will put Skarmory in it's place, and a Pokemon with a Rock-type, Ice-type (unlikely), or Dragon-type (unlikely, although possible) move will take out the Altaria. If you don't have any of these types, just go at it with your strongest Pokemon. Just watch out for the Altaria - it has several moves that may catch your Pokemon by surprise.

Getting the Mind Badge

•Head back down Route 120, all the way to the bottom. Then, head east to Route 121.

•On Route 121, you'll see Team Aqua/Magma run off toward Mt. Pyre. You'd better go chase after them. Lilycove is just a bit more to the east, so stop by there if you desperately need a Pokemon Center. Otherwise, just head south toward Mt. Pyre.

•When you enter Mt. Pyre, don't scale the tower (unless you want to fight lots of Ghost-type Pokemon and obtain the Sea and Lax Incenses). Instead, swing to the left and climb that set of the stairs to start climbing the outside of Mt. Pyre.

•You can catch a Vulpix, Shuppet (it's rare in the Ruby version), and a Duskull (rare in the Sapphire version) on your trek up Mt. Pyre. All three would be nice additions to your Pokedex, although it's up to you. Climb to the very top of Mt. Pyre to encounter Team Aqua/Magma again.

•On the summit of Mt. Pyre, you'll have to fight several Team Aqua/Magma members. When you get to the very end of them, you'll witness either Maxie (Ruby) or Archie (Sapphire) stealing one of the Orbs, then running off. Then, the elderly couple guarding the Orbs will give you the remaining Orb, and ask you to retreive the missing one from Team Aqua/Magma. Now, if they were bright, they'd leave the Orb they just gave you on top of the summit rather than give it to some random kid that they don't even know, but I guess they aren't all that bright after all.

•Arrive in Lilycove City, and beat your rival in front of the Department Store. After doing so, you'll be able to buy a whole ton of items inside of the Department Store.

•Fly back to Slateport City, and head to the Harbor (north-east most building) to witness Team Aqua/Magma steal the Submarine. Capt. Stern will ask you to get it back from them.

•Fly back to Lilycove City, and climb to the higher ground of the city, then jump down a ledge or two until you can reach the beach. Then, Surf north in search of Team Aqua/Magma.

•Enter Team Aqua/Magma's Hideout, then battle the various Grunts and Executives in there. Eventually, you'll watch the Submarine take off once more.

IMPORTANT! This is your only chance to get the Master Ball! Once you leave, you'll never be able to get it again! So make sure you thoroughly explore the place to get all of it's goodies, including the Master Ball.

•Surf east towards Mossdeep City, fighting the Trainers along the way. You'll want to build your Pokemon's Levels up a bit before you take on the next Gym. Don't worry though, it isn't too hard.

•Arrive in Mossdeep City, and talk to Steven inside of his house. He'll give you HM08 (Dive) for doing so.

•Enter the Mossdeep City Gym, and prepare to fight both Tate and Liza, the two Gym Leaders of Mossdeep City!

Try to have all of your Pokemon's levels above Level 38 if possible. You'll also want to make sure you have a Pokemon with Dark, Ghost, Grass, Water, or Ice-type moves on it. One thing about these two Gym Leaders that seperates all of the others: the fight is a two-on-two battle! So you'll have two Pokemon to use against theirs! Remember, if one of your Pokemon gets Knocked Out, you can switch it for another. And remember, if one of their Pokemon gets Knocked Out... Then it turns into a two-on-one battle! So keep that strategy in mind, and try to target both of your Pokemon's attacks on one of their Pokemon. Or, better yet, have your Pokemon use moves that target both of them at once! Surf would be a prime example of that. They should go down with little difficulty.

Getting the Rain Badge

•Teach Dive (HM08) to one of your Pokemon (Marills work well), then Surf to the south.

•You're not looking for anything on Route 127, although you can dive in the deep blue part of the sea to avoid the Trainers. Just continue south to Route 128.

•On Route 128, you'll see a suspicious looking formation in the water. It looks sort of like a donut with 5 rocks surrounding the southern parameter of it. Whatever it may look like, it's what you're looking for. Use Dive right next to it (but not in the center of it!), then enter the submerged cavern, then use Dive again to resurface inside of the Seafloor Cavern.

•Wander through the Seafloor Cavern, solving the puzzles and fighting the Team Aqua/Magma Grunts along the way. Some of the puzzles can be rather tricky, but use your brain and you'll figure them out.

•At the very end of the Seafloor Cavern, you'll encounter either Maxie awakening Groudon (Ruby), or Archie awakening Kyogre (Sapphire). Be sure to pick up TM26 (Earthquake) before encountering them though, because TM26 is an awesome TM to get. After encountering either Maxie (Ruby) or Archie (Sapphire), you'll have to battle them.

•After battling the Team's Leader, the Orb will start shining, and Groudon (Ruby) or Kyogre (Sapphire) will awaken, then disappear out into the world. Maxie/Archie will receive an urgent message from his Team Members, and you'll both race outside.

•When you arrive outside, the entire Hoenn Region will be either in Drought conditions (Ruby) or Storming conditions (Sapphire). In each battle you take place in from now on, it'll start out Sunny (Ruby) or Raining (Sapphire). Steven will appear, and tell you that Team Aqua/Magma has awakened the legendary Pokemon, Kyogre/Groudon (Groudon on Ruby, and Kyogre on Sapphire), and that the most intense of all of the weather is at Sootopolis City. He then flies off to check it out. Now you must go and stop Groudon/Kyogre before it's too late!

•Surf north to Route 127, then head west to Route 126. Dive underwater, and head toward the southern end of the large, circular island, enter the cavern, then surface yourself to arrive in Sootopolis City.

•No one is out in the open due to the dangerous signs of impending doom or something like that. The Gym is even closed. If you do some climbing around, you'll eventually find the entrance to the Cave of Origin. You'll also meet with Steven and Sootopolis' Gym Leader, Wallace. Wallace will then let you enter the Cave of Origin to stop the legendary Pokemon from drying up/flooding the world.

•Enter the Cave of Origin. It's dark, so it might be wise to bring a Pokemon with Flash, although don't worry if you don't have one as the paths are extremely easy to navigate. Just be sure to pick up HM07 (Waterfall) on your way.

•On the very bottom floor, you'll encounter either Groudon (Ruby) or Kyogre (Sapphire). The legendary beast is at Level 45, and it exceptionally strong. Be sure to catch it, because it's the only chance you have to do so! Definitely save before entering the battle with them, otherwise you'll live to regret it.

•After beating or catching Groudon/Kyogre, you can exit the Cave of Origin to find peace has been restored to the planet. Now, you can fight Wallace for the final Badge, the Rain Badge!

Also try to have several Pokemon with Electric or Grass-type moves in their arsenal. Do yourself a favor and leave all Fire, Rock, and Ground-type Pokemon in the back of your Party. Beating the Elite Four

•Now that you've saved the world, stopped Team Aqua/Magma, and earned all 8 Gym Badges, what is there to do now? Beat the Elite Four of course! Start off by Surfing east of Route 128, arriving in Ever Grande City. Teach Waterfall to one of your Pokemon, then scale the waterfall to arrive near the entrance to Victory Road. Heal up and save at the Pokemon Center, then continue to Victory Road.

•Victory Road has some strong wild Pokemon, but even stronger Trainers. Try to have all of your Pokemon above Level 45 before entering.

•Proceed through the cave. You'll need Rock Smash, Strength, Waterfall, and Flash if you want to make it through the cave.

•At the end of Victory Road, you'll have one final battle with one of your old friends... Wally! All of Wally's Pokemon are between Level 41 and 45, and he has a rather wide variety types on his team. Just as long as you can play Weaknesses, you should be able to win.

•Exit Victory Road, and enter the Pokemon League HQ. This is your last chance to prepare for the final fight, so be sure to stock up of Hyper Potions, Full Restores, Revives, and Full Heals before entering!

•You'll want to have all of your Pokemon at or above Level 45 before entering, although preferably somewhere from Level 45 to Level 52 would be ideal. You'll also want to try to have a Fighting-type, an Ice-type, and a Dark-type Pokemon in your roster to have an edge against the Elite Four's Pokemon.

Glacia's Pokemon can really annoy you by using Hail, a move that will continuously damage non-Ice-type Pokemon every turn. Try to endure the damage, and hit her Pokemon with your strongest Fire and Fighting-type attacks. When she brings out a Sealeo or her Walrein, send out your strongest Electric-type Pokemon, and have it use either Thunder or Thunderbolt on it, and it should be toast. As for the Glalies, they aren't too hard as long as you can beat them before they hit you with their attacks. They both know Crunch, so avoid sending out any Ghost or Psychic-type Pokemon against them. Instead, try to hit them with Fire. If any of your Pokemon get frozen by her attacks, you have two options. One, you could use a Full Heal on it, and then let Glacia get in a free hit on the Pokemon you healed. Or two, you could just let the Pokemon get Knocked Out, then use a Revive on it. Only use the latter of the two if you have no Ice Heals, Full Heals, or Full Restores. Eventually, she'll fall.

•If you have an Ice Pokemon in your party, or a Pokemon that knows an Ice-type move, put in the front of your party, pronto! Drake, the last member of the Elite 4, uses all Dragon-type Pokemon, and most all of them are 4x weak to Ice! All of Steven's Pokemon are at very high levels, and you'll need to use every bit of wit and cunning you might have to beat him. Well, that might be a bit much, but you will be in for a challenge.

Start out with a Fire, Electric, or Ice-type Pokemon if you have any to take out his Skarmory. It might use Spikes, which, when you swap out a Pokemon, will do mild damage to it. Try to beat it before it gets a chance to use it.

Against his Claydol, Surf or another powerful Water-type move works nicely. Any Grass, Ice, Ghost, or Dark-type move will do plenty of damage to Claydol.

Aggron has a lot of Defense, but it really falls to Fighting-type moves. Water-type moves are actually more effective against it, even though it doesn't have a 4x Weakness to it, due to its low Special Defense. Just watch out though, it not only bears Thunder, a move that will shock any Water-type Pokemon who dare to Surf it, it also has a lot of resistances, and a wide variety of moves at its disposal.

The Cradily and Armaldo are both a bit tricky to take out. Just try to use your strongest attacks against them, and they'll fall eventually. Be alert of their selection of moves though. They have a lot of different type attacks and can really mess with your Pokemon!

Lastly, you'll have to take on Steven's Metagross. Against it, try to use your strongest Fire or Ground-type attacks, and hope that it will fall. His Metagross is at Level 58, so it might take several hits before its defeated. Just remember to use your items and you should be fine.

•After you beat Steven, you'll be the new Champion of the Pokemon League, and Steven will take you back to get you and your Pokemon registered as Champions.

Congratulations! You're now the Champion!
