[*01] \ - Introduction -
--------\=====================================================================

You are Marcus Fenix, stuck in a cold cell when your pal Dominic Santiago
shows up to bust you out. Times have changed, this is war. You are first given
armor and a weapon, then immediately thrust into the dark, gritty, war-torn
world of Sera. Gears of War is developed by Epic Games, it was released in
North America on the Xbox 360 console November 7th, 2006. For many, Gears of
War was one of the Xbox 360's first Killer-App titles. With its simple to
use, innovative cover system, addictive multiplayer and next-gen graphics,
Gears of War has earned its status. This FAQ will guide you along the way,
from the first act to the final. With these strategies, you'll be able to
squash any locust standing in your way, no matter how big and scary they may
be. Not only that, EVERY COG tag is pointed out along the way.

I have implemented a search system that I highly suggest you utilize. It is
very simple to use and it will make your time navigating this guide a whole
lot easier. To use it, simply press [Ctrl]+[F] to bring up the Find menu. Use
the table of contents and type in the corresponding code of the section that
you want to jump to. I suggest that you do not read too far ahead, as this
guide does CONTAIN SPOILERS! I hope you can find the answers you are looking
for... now on to the FAQ!

- Active Reload [b02]
-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~

Just what is an Active Reload? I'll explain. When you press the right bumper
to reload your current weapon, you can press the right bumper again when the
pointer is along the grey or white portion of the bar, top right corner of the
screen. If you only press the right bumper once, you're character will reload
his gun normally. Pressing the right bumper while the pointer is on the grey
portion of the bar will allow you to reload your weapon slightly faster than
normal. On the black portion, the bar will turn red, causing the gun to jam.
You want to land the pointer on the white portion of the bar. This is referred
to as a "perfect reload." Doing this will allow you to reload your weapon
instantly, the gun will also receive a slight damage boost for a short period
of time. This is where perfect reloads shine. Instead of two Longshot bullets
downing a drone, just one is needed. The Gnasher is instantly capable of
blowing enemies apart.

Success is a matter of timing and practice. It may take awhile for you to get
used to Active Reloads, but it will eventually become second nature.

-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
- Weapons [b03]
-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~

+--- SNUB PISTOL ------------------------------------------------------------+
The basic pistol that you start off with. You'll begin each multiplayer match
with one. Not particularly effective, but good for a quick switch to finish
off an enemy instead of reloading.

+--- BOLTOK PISTOL ----------------------------------------------------------+
Essentially a magnum. The Boltok Pistol is more effective than the Snub Pistol
that you are initially equipped with. Good for killing wretches, if you are
used to killing enemies without holding down the left trigger to aim.

+--- LANCER ASSAULT RIFLE ---------------------------------------------------+
Standard COG weaponry. The Lancer deals a decent amount of damage at close to
medium range. The Lancer also features a chainsaw bayonet. To use the chainsaw
bayonet, hold down the B button to start the chainsaw. Get close enough to an
enemy and if they don't notice you, they're in pieces.

+--- HAMMERBURST ------------------------------------------------------------+
The Hammerburst fires in short bursts, unlike the Lancer. Not a bad weapon,
but given the choice between a Hammerburst and a Lancer, choose the latter.

+--- GNASHER SHOTGUN --------------------------------------------------------+
The shotgun of Gears of War This weapon is random, very random. You'll notice
the randomness much more if you ever hop online and try the multiplayer.
Against Locust, this gun is quite powerful at close range, but it will more
than likely be dropped in favor of more effective weapons. For this gun to
be very effective, you must be pretty close to your target. Gears of War isn't
really that type of shooter, but the Gnasher can be a savior in certain
situations.

+--- LONGSHOT SNIPER RIFLE --------------------------------------------------+
This is an awesome weapon. That's a fact. Once you get your hands on one,
NEVER let it go. The Longshot can zoom in, hold the left trigger and press
down on the Right Thumbstick. Headshots have never been as satisfying in any
shooter as they are in Gears of War. From afar, you can take a minimal amount
of damage from your enemies, while you can still instantly end your targets
life. Some drones have head armor, in that case on non-perfect reload shot
will only knock off the armor (in Hardcore). With a perfect reload, you can
down any drone with a single body shot.

+--- FRAG GRENADE -----------------------------------------------------------+
An explosive weapon that is very easy to use, since while you are aiming,
there is a visible arc that shows the grenade's trajectory. Instead of simply
this grenade, it is attached to a chain and swung and thrown.

+--- SMOKE GRENADE ----------------------------------------------------------+
Only available in the multiplayer mode. Thrown in the same way as a Frag
Grenade, but releases a cloud of smoke upon detonation.

+--- HAMMER OF DAWN ---------------------------------------------------------+
This is a weapon to behold. The Hammer of Dawn can only be used when satellit-
es are available and you are in an area with an open sky. To use this weapon,
hold down the Left Trigger to aim, the laser will show you where the beam will
strike. You cannot move while the beam is charging or it will cancel. Once it
is deployed however, you are free to move the beam with the Right Thumbstick.
This weapon is primarily used in the single player campaign for killing
Seeders and Berserkers.

+--- TORQUE BOW -------------------------------------------------------------+
A great weapon for taking out drones and Boomers. To use this weapon, hold the
Right Trigger to charge the bolt, you can do this while behind cover, you do
not need to be aiming. If you press and hold the Left Trigger, a laser guide
is visible. You have to hold RT for a long enough time, if you do not the bolt
will simply bounce and not stick. You can't keep the bolt charged forever,
either. If you hold down the RT button for too long, the Torque Bow will
simply launch itself.

+--- BOOMSHOT ---------------------------------------------------------------+
All in all, this weapon is not to impressive. First of all, splash damage is
practically non-existent. Nothing short of a straight on shot will be
effective. Boomers carry these around, and in my experience they don't work
too well against them. Your best bet would be to leave this weapon on the
ground. Torque Bow is a much better weapon.

-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
- Enemies [b04]
-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~

+--- DRONE ------------------------------------------------------------------+
These are the Locust that you will encounter most often. They are the standard
bipedal enemy present in any shooter. There are different variations of the
drone. They use a variety of weapons. The most common type of drone are the
ones that use Hammerbursts/Lancers. There are Gnasher users, they are easily
discernable from the usual due to the fact that they do not wear chest armor.
Don't get too close to those ones. There are the Grenadiers, they use Gnashers
most of the time and throw frag grenades. Some use Longshots, and there are
also troika gunners who usually have some sort of head protection to protect
against headshots.

+--- WRETCH -----------------------------------------------------------------+
The fodder enemy of Gears of War. They've essentially been put in the game
just to annoy. They use melee attacks to deal damage, they move very fast
and thus, can be quite hard to hit. Luckily, they are very weak, and in Casual
and Hardcore, one melee attack will kill them. The same cannot be said for the
explosive wretches, the more annoying of the two types of wretch. When they
die, their corpse explodes, dealing a great deal of damage. After killing an
explosive wretch, roll backwards, away from the corpse, to avoid the
explosion. Fun fact, one explosion from a wretch will kill you in Insane. Look
forward to that if you plan to play on the Insane difficulty level...

+--- SEEDER -----------------------------------------------------------------+
Seeders can only be killed by the Hammer of Dawn weapon. Luckily, at any of
the few times that you encounter one during the campaign, a Hammer of Dawn
is always readily available. It will take more than one hit to kill a Seeder,
they also deploy Nemacyst, which are flying, exploding enemies.

+--- NEMACYST ---------------------------------------------------------------+
Slow moving, flying enemy released by Seeders. You can easily shoot Nemacyst
out of the sky before they reach you. Really, nothing to worry about.

+--- BOOMER -----------------------------------------------------------------+
These guys are deadly. They use Boomshots, and if they manage to clip you,
it's over. When you see one, take cover! They usually say "Boom" before they
are about to shoot, so if you are aiming at them, duck back behind cover when
you hear this. There are multiple ways to deal with Boomers. One way, the most
dangerous, is to attach a frag grenade to the Boomer. To do this, get close to
the Boomer with a frag grenade in hand and press the B button to attach it to
him, then quickly roll away to avoid the explosion. The Longshot works well
against them, too. Just aim for the head and go for perfect reloads. A few
headshots will do the job. The absolute easiest way to kill a Boomer, use the
Torque Bow. They're huge, it's hard to miss. One bolt will end it.

+--- KRYLL ------------------------------------------------------------------+
The Kyrll come out at night in Sera. Stay in the light. If you step into the
darkness at night, the Kryll will devour you.

+--- THERON GUARD -----------------------------------------------------------+
A more powerful version of the drone. They usually use Torque Bows, so be
very careful if there are any Theron Guards around. If you notice that one is
aiming a Torque Bow in your direction, get behind a piece of cover and wait
until the Theron Guard is forced to shoot the bolt, missing you. This is your
chance to kill. One perfect reload Longshot bullet will kill take these guys
out, headshot or body shot.

+--- BERSERKER---------------------------------------------------------------+
Scary. That basically sums up the Berserker. They are a giant, pissed off
female version of the drone. They are blind, but they use scent and sound to
track their target. As with Seeders, the Berserkers that you encounter must
be killed with a Hammer of Dawn. When they sense that their target is near,
they will charge in that direction. Roll out of the way or you will be
pummeled.

[*03] \ - Campaign Walkthrough -
--------\=====================================================================

This walkthrough was written based on the HARDCORE difficulty level. The
difficulty level that you play on only affects the amount of damage you can
take, as well as the amount of damage your enemies can take. I have also
noticed that on Hardcore and Insane, enemies use more beat downs and tend to
charge/jump cover more often. But maybe that's just me... All control commands
refer to the Gears of Wars DEFAULT control style.

Just a quick note on directions: When you see something like "To the right of
the big door" this means to the right whilst you are FACING the big door.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- ACT ONE - [a01]

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==============================================================================
...ASHES - 14 Years after E-Day........................................[w01]..
==============================================================================
You are Marcus Fenix, stuck in a cold cell when your pal Dominic Santiago
shows up to bust you out. Times have changed, this is war. You are first given
armor and a weapon, then immediately thrust into the dark, gritty, war-torn
world of Sera. Follow Dominic out of the cell, you are then presented with two
options: Going left will take you into the eye of the storm, while heading
right will take you through some training. For the purpose of this guide,
choose to go right for training, since if you are reading and following this
walkthrough you are undoubtedly new to the game.

Notice the Gears of War symbol (Crimson Omen) on the sheet of metal straight
ahead, when you see the Crimson Omen it is to signify that there is a set of
COG tags nearby. COG tags are required to unlock the following achievements:
Time to Remember (Recover one-third of the COG tags), Honor-Bound (Recover
two-thirds of the COG tags) and For the Fallen (recover all thirty of the COG
tags). If you are not interested in the COG tag achievements, you can simply
ignore all mention of the COG tags in this walkthrough, but I would suggest,
if you are planning on following this walkthrough, retrieve the COG tags
anyway. Just be sure to mark down the ones that you have found so if you want
to obtain them all, you know which ones you are missing. There is a COG tag
checklist in the "COG Tag Locations" section of this walkthrough that you can
print out and use. So, in this case, [CT01] is right below the Crimson Omen on
the sheet of metal straight ahead from the entrance to this area. Pick them
up, turn around and head up the set of stairs to your left.

There is a green button on the table to your left when you enter the room. You
are told to press it by using the X button. Do so, the security gate ahead
will open. Across the catwalk, there is an electronically locked door. Hold
the Y button to switch your view to the circuit breaker on the wall along the
catwalk to your left. Destroy the circuit breaker by holding LT to aim and
then press and hold RT to fire your weapon. Once it is destroyed, the door
will open and you can proceed through it. Stand in front of the door and press
the X button to kick it aside. In this area, you will be able to learn the ins
and outs of the cover system. Essentially, the A button is used for most cover
maneuvers. Read and execute the maneuvers displayed in the help boxes that
appear at the top of the screen. Practice rolling and taking cover until you
have the hang of it.

In this next area, behind the cement box straight ahead as soon as you enter,
there is a box of ammo. The X button is used to pick up ammo and weapons. Kick
in the door to the left of the ammo box and proceed through it. Follow the
catwalk to the end and turn right. There are enemies in this area, so roadie
run to some cover by holding the A button down, you will automatically slam
against the cement block as you approach it. Stay behind the cover until the
enemy pops out to fire. Aim and shoot at the enemy, notice that when you are
shot the outline of a Crimson Omen is visible in the middle of the screen.
This is your damage gauge, when the Crimson Omen is completely full, you are
dead. If you are up from cover and shooting, if the Omen is getting too full
because you are being shot, release the left trigger and return to cover. Over
time the omen will fade, indicating that you have returned to full health.

Once the enemy has been dealt with, leave cover and approach the green button
to the left. There is an ammo box to the right. Press the button and then
roadie run across the bridge and into the next area. Follow Dom through the
next area, he will point out some grenades that you can pick up. You can only
hold four of them at once. In the next area you will encounter two more
enemies. You can take cover behind one of the stone pillars on the overlooking
catwalk, crouch down by pressing down on the left thumbstick and shoot through
at the enemies through the bars. Once the enemies are dead go right and follow
the catwalk to some stairs. Go down and through the gate.

As you approach the door at the end of this area, some Locust will begin to
cut their way through. It won't be long before they break through, so get
behind some cover and ready a frag grenade. Hold the Left Trigger to swing the
frag grenade, use the visible arc to line up the grenade near the doorway and
as soon as they break through, pull the Right Trigger to release the grenade.
You should be able to take out all of the enemies that come through if well-
timed. Use your gun to finish off any locust that survived the blast. COG Tag
[CT02] can be found in this area. From the door where the locust broke through
turn around and go straight until you reach the two downed pillars near the
end of the room. Facing these pillars, turn right, notice the Crimson Omen on
the standing pillar. Behind this pillar is a box of ammo and the COG tags.

When you are ready, proceed through the door marked "EXIT," you will find
yourself in the middle of another firefight. Take cover along the blocks to
your right as soon as you enter this outside area. Be wary, some enemies may
leave their cover and run straight at yours. COG tag [CT03] is to the left of
your current position, notice the Crimson Omen. Once the amount of enemies has
dwindled, leave cover, turn left, roadie run up the stairs. As soon as you are
at the top of the stairs, turn left and retrieve the COG tags in the corner.
If you want this COG tag, you must get to it before all of the enemies are
dead, because if you don't you will be forced into the chapter end cutscene.
When all of the locust in the area are dead and you hear the "battle end"
sound effect (you'll know it when you hear it), wait for a moment and the
chapter end cutscene will begin.

==============================================================================
...ASHES - Trial By Fire...............................................[w02]..
==============================================================================
As soon as the cutscene has ended, you will find yourself in the middle of
another firefight. This is war, what did you expect? The two locust should be
killed off by your allies fairly quickly. You now have a Lancer in your
arsenal, the Lancer has a faster rate of fire than the Hammerburst that you
initially had, and of course it has the esteemed chainsaw bayonet. To use the
chainsaw, with the Lancer out, press and hold down on the B button to start
the chainsaw, then connect with an enemy to cut them in half. In the beginn-
ing, chainsawing enemies in half may appear to be unparalled in the field
awesomeness, but believe me, you will probably quickly grow tired of the
chainsaw animation and move on to an alternate means of disposing your
enemies...

Follow your squad up the stone steps. Enter the ruins and turn left, you will
find yourself in an outside area. You will encounter some more drones in this
area. Hop over the first piece of cover and move to the one next up, it
provides much better battlefield coverage. From here, carefully dispose of the
locust. Go on, give that chainsaw a try, I know you want to. Once all of the
enemies have been dealt with, notice the Crimson Omen on the stone block at
the far end of this area. Approach it, while facing it turn right. Look in the
grass between the stone blocks for COG tag [CT04]. Follow your squad to the
stone stairs at the end of this area. There is a box of ammo at the foot of
these steps if needed. Head up the stairs and into the next area.

Whilst your squad is admiring the scenery, they are rudely interrupted by a
contingent of locust. Immediately roadie run and take cover behind the nearest
piece of stone. A small help box will appear at the top of the screen that will
explain Emergence Holes. To quickly seal one of this heals, drop a grenade
down them. It's as simple as that. There is an open emergence hole at the end
of this area, so you will want to move between cover to try and get closer to
it. A good one to use is the one just after the stone planter. Now, from
behind cover prepare your grenade. Don't stand out to long, as you will still
be taking fire from your enemies. If need be, release the left trigger to drop
back down and wait for your health to recover. Just don't move your camera and
the arc will retain its position. Aim carefully, when the arc is leading to the
emergence hole press the right trigger to throw the grenade. If your grenade
is true, the hole will be close. There is a box of ammo behind the stone
planter just below the sealed hole.

Follow your squad to the next portion of this area. Take cover, if you are
too close to the battle be wary of the charging locust who may try to jump
your cover. Once the locust have been dealt with, follow your squad to the
bridge. There is a box of ammo in the area to the left of the bridge gate if
needed. When you are ready, cross the bridge to the other side. Once the door
has opened, go through, you will encounter locust here. As soon as you enter,
roadie run straight ahead and hop into the square of cover. Take the grenades
and ammo box. There is an emergence hole that opens up in this room. When you
hear the "emergence hole open" sound effect, move to the cover behind the area
of the emergence hole and ready a grenade. When it opens, throw the grenade
down it.

There is plenty of cover in this area, so you can easily move around between
them to try and get a free view of enemies behind cover. Be careful though, as
the locust move around, too. They also like to use melee attacks, so they can
come up behind you and hit you while you are trying to shoot at different
locust. There is another emergence hole that will open at the end of this area
so be ready with a grenade. Once that hole has been closed and the room is
clear of locust, before heading out through the recently opened door, turn
left while facing the door, look down, COG tag [CT05] is along the wall.

==============================================================================
...ASHES - Fish in a Barrel............................................[w03]..
==============================================================================
There is a troika gun emplacement in this area, so as soon as you gain control
of Marcus, immediately get yourself behind some cover. From your initial
position, you will have to make your way to the right side. Roadie run and
roll to avoid the enemy fire. Once you are at the end, move along the wall,
there is a doorway that will lead you right next to the troika gunner. If you
approach him, the gunner will more than likely leave the emplacement and take
some cover further away. There is also a foot soldier near the troika, so be
wary of that. When the two locust are dead, approach the troika and hold the
X button to man it. You will encounter some charging locust, running towards
your post, with the troika you can effortlessly cut through them and its ammo
is unlimited, so just hold down the right trigger and direct your fire towards
them.

When the locust are dead, follow your squad to the next area. Hop into the
fountain and collect the ammo boxes and grenades within. Prepare yourself, as
a couple of emergence holes will open. When you hear the sound effect signify-
ing that a hole is opening, if you can't see it, run around the fountain until
it comes into view, then lob a grenade into it to seal it up. All the while,
be careful as you will be taken fire while you aiming and preparing to throw
the frag grenade. You initially won't have enough grenades to plug up all of
the emergence holes, but a couple of them will help stem the onslaught
somewhat.

For the holes that you are unable to close due to lack of grenades, you will
just have to kill the locust that emerge from them until the holes close by
themselves. There are some more grenades in the area if needed, they are near
a set of COG tags. While in the fountain, look around for the shinning of the
tags, then hop out of cover and go towards them, the grenades are next to a
stone block. Take COG tag [CT06] while you're at it. When all of the locust
are dead and all of the emergence holes sealed, follow your squad into the
next area.

==============================================================================
...ASHES - Fork in the Road............................................[w04]..
==============================================================================
If you choose Left: Move up towards the doorway, there are locust up above.
Just take cover and they should come charging down at you. Kill them and then
move up into the next area. You can kill the troika gunner who is in the hall
outside this room by shooting him through the hole in the wall at the end of
this room. Go through the door once you are finished.

If you choose Right: Move up and go through either doorway. There is another
troika gun emplacement at the end of the hall in the next area, so take cover
behind the wall. Step off the wall, roll into the area behind it and break the
wooden cross blocking the hole in the wall. Help Kim and Dom kill off the lo-
cust in the room. If the troika gunner spotted you, he may leave the post and
go confront you. If not, Kim and Dom should kill him for you. He tends not to
stay on that troika either way. Some more locust will appear behind you. Kill
them and then open the door at the end of the hall.

Whichever path you choose, once you go through the door you will meet up with
your buddies in the next room. There is a troika gun emplacement in this area.
While facing towards it, go through the doorway to the right. Grab the ammo in
here and then continue going right and back out into the open. Roll and take
cover behind the large steel drum. Roadie run and roll to the door to the up
ahead to the right of the steel drum and kick it in. Go up the stairs and kill
the spotter up here. From the window, shoot down at the troika gunner and the
locust surrounding him. The gunner might leave his post to take cover, so you
may have to head back down the stairs to take him out if your allies don't.

As soon as all of the locust initially in the area have been dealt with, run
to the platform and man the troika. A group of locust will appear behind the
squad, so kill them with the troika as they charge towards you. There are some
that will stay behind and shoot through the windows, you can take them out
with the troika as well as they pop up from cover to shoot. When you are done,
there is a box of ammo behind the troika emplacement. Go through the hallway
at and kick in the door at the end.

==============================================================================
...ASHES - Knock Knock.................................................[w05]..
==============================================================================
Follow the hall and kick in the door at the end. You will find yourself back
outside. COG tag [CT07] is near. Facing towards the steps, turn left and stand
along the edge of the giant hole in the street. Climb up the stairs here and
along the stone fence is the tag.

Now, you're going to have to take things slow here. There is a troika gun
emplacement, as well as shotgun wielding locust who will not hesitate to blow
you to pieces. Start by taking cover behind the sandbags to the left of the
fountain, then gradually make your way to the sandbags enclosing the troika
gun emplacement by rolling to the pillar, then to the sandbags. Just wait at
the pillar for awhile, as a few locust will come through the door behind the
gunner and hop over the sandbags to attack you. Once you are taking cover
behind the sandbags next to the gunner, wait near him and he will more than
likely leave his post to take some cover in the adjoining area. Kill any
locust that come out through the door from behind the sandbags and then hop
over the sandbags and go into the building. Take cover within, just watch out
for the aforementioned shotgun wielders, they are the shirtless locust. A hole
will open up inside too, if you feel yourself getting overwhelmed, head back
outside and take some cover further away.

The Gnasher is a nice weapon that you will want to take for yourself once you
have dealt with the bastard trying to kill you with it. Keep your Lancer and
take the Gnasher into the second slot. In case you are unfamiliar with switch-
ing weapons at this point, I will explain. To switch through your current
weapons, use the D-pad. Pressing the left d-pad button tells Marcus to switch
to the weapon on the left side of his back, the right d-pad button the right.
So, since you will be keeping your Lancer, switch to the second weapon on
Marcus' back that you are not using. Then move up to the Gnasher on the ground
and hold the X button to drop your weapon and pick up the shotgun.

After the cutscene, hop on the troika and take out the locust approaching from
behind. When they are dead, a new set of doors will open, follow your squad
mates inside. Again, watch for the guys with the Gnashers.

==============================================================================
...ASHES - Hammer......................................................[w06]..
==============================================================================
Up the stairs, you will encounter one of the Alpha Squad. Before going through
the doorway leading into the next room, while facing the doorway turn left, go
straight to the end and pick up the grenades here. Help the Alpha squad member
take out the locusts below. Follow your squad mates down the stairs and into
area below. Once all of the locust in the area have been disposed of, you will
gain another squad member, Cole. When you gain control over Marcus, pick up
the ammo box and grenades. Follow your squad up the set of stairs to the left.
Wait for Kim to open the door.

For COG tag [CT08], as soon as you step through the doorway, turn left. The
tag is next to a cement block. In this area, you will encounter the wretches.
If you are playing the game on either the Casual or Hardcore difficulty level,
switch to your Gnasher (or another weapon, one other than the Lancer) and use
the B button to beat them down. One melee attack will kill them with one
strike on either difficulty. You can wait by the giant hole to the right of
the entrance door and beat them down as they climb up. Once all of the enemies
are dead and Jack has finished opening the door, proceed into the next area.

Here, you will have to switch out your second weapon for the Hammer of Dawn,
for the time being. A help box will appear at the top of the screen that
explains how to use this newly acquired weapon. As it explains, the Hammer of
Dawn can only be used when satellites are available and you are in an area
with an open sky. The door will open, step outside and look northeast, that is
the seeder in the distance. Hold LT to aim the weapon with the laser guide and
hold down on the right trigger, do not move at all while it is charging. A
beam will fall from the sky and hit the seeder, it will take two blasts to
defeat it. All the while, the seeder is firing Nemacyst at you. They deal a
lot of damage (instant death on Insane), so in between blasts, if your squad
isn't already on it, switch to your lancer and shoot the Nemacyst when they
are too close. Once you have hit the seeder with the second beam, it's dead.

You can still use the Hammer of Dawn at this point to kill the locust on the
other side of the bridge. While the beam is active, you can slowly move it
around by moving the right thumbstick. When everything is dead, cross the
bridge and turn right and follow the squad into the next area. Another seeder
kill the Nemacyst flying towards you, then use the Hammer of Dawn in the same
fashion to finish it off. Use the Hammer of Dawn to beat down any of the
wretches that you encounter in the next area. Once the hallways are devoid of
enemies, Kim will open another door, proceed through it. There are some more
wretches in the area below. Continue following the squad.

You will face a group of locust in the next area. Stay behind the benches and
beat down the wretches that jump over them with the Hammer. When the room is
clear, follow the group. As soon as you reach the bottom of the stairs, turn
right and look in the corner for COG tag [CT09]. Go through the doorway down
here and head up the stairs.

==============================================================================
...ASHES - Wrath.......................................................[w07]..
==============================================================================
Take cover behind the pillar in the middle of the room, avoid the chairs and
sofas as they are destructible cover. There is another seeder here to be dealt
with. Use the Hammer of Dawn in the same fashion as before to kill it. Two
blasts will kill it. You can switch out the Hammer of Dawn for a Hammerburst
if you would like, you won't be needing the Hammer, for now. After the radio
transmission, some locust will begin breaking through the door, take cover
behind the side of the pillar opposite of this door. There is a Gnasher user
among them, so if you want a Gnasher, kill him and take it. Take cover behind
one of the desks in the next area and kill the two enemies. Down the next
hall, cover behind a cement block. There are drones up ahead, watch out for
the shotgunner who will more than likely charge at you and jump your cover.

To the right of the couch, you can find a box of ammo in the adjacent room.
Down the next hall, as you are surely already aware, there is a troika gun
emplacement. You will have to flank the gunner. The shooting will be sparse
due to distance, so step out into the hall and roll to the right. You will
find yourself in a hallway parallel to the one controlled by the troika
gunner. Beat down the wretches and kill the drone in here, sneak up behind the
troika gunner and either chainsaw him or blast him with the Gnasher. Man the
troika and shoot at the wretches that are coming down the hall. If any of them
manage to jump the sandbags in front of your troika, step off of the troika
and beat them down. Go through the doorway to the right of the troika. Go
straight ahead, turn right and go down the stairs here to find a box of ammo.

Back up the stairs, go through the doorway straight ahead and through follow
this path into the next area. Take cover and kill the drones in this room,
remember that the chairs and couches are destructible cover. I don't mean to
sound like a broken record, but watch out for the shotgunners. Into the next
area, climb up the long set of stairs and onto the balcony. Surprise the troika
gunner up here with a couple of shotgun blasts. Before you man that troika,
kill the Nemacyst in the air, they're nasty. Once they sky is clear, use the
troika to kill the drones down below.

==============================================================================
...ASHES - China Shop..................................................[w08]..
==============================================================================
After the cutscene, switch your second weapon for the Hammer of Dawn on the
ground. COG tag [CT10] is near, move past the table that is on fire along the
wall and turn right, look down on the right side of this hall next to the fire
for the tag. Head back to the other end of the hall and slowly make your way
into the next area. Eventually you will come to a wall and the berserker will
break through. What you need to do is get her outside, this way you can use
the Hammer of Dawn to down her. Berserkers are blind, so they use scent and
sound to detect their enemies. To the right of where the berserker smashed
through the wall is a door. Roadie run straight ahead to the other end of
this area and position yourself in front of the big door. Shoot at the
Berserker to get her attention, she will charge at you. When she is about to
crash into you, roll to the side.

The Berserker will break through the door, allowing you to access a new area.
Lead her through the next room until you reach a door that looks like the
first breakable one. Again, shoot to get her attention. Once it has been
broken down, move into the next room. There is another breakable door here.
Face the breakable door and turn left, in the corner below the window here is
COG tag [CT11]. Stand in front of the door and shoot to provoke the berserker
once more. With the third door broken, you will find yourself outside. There
is another COG tag, [CT12] in this area. As soon as you are outside, turn left
and roadie run down to the large stone planter with the lamppost next to it.
It is right beside the stone planter.

Now that you've gotten it outside, how are you supposed to kill this
beast? Well, if you recall, you should currently have a Hammer of Dawn
strapped to your back. Remember what it did to those seeders? Same deal
here, however this one is a great deal more mobile than those seeders
were. One thing to be careful with, never use the Hammer of Dawn to
close to yourself, it will kill you too. Now, you need to get the beam
to hit the berserker. While she is being struck by the beam, she will be
rendered immobile.

Allow her to charge towards you, roll out of the way, then roadie run so
that you are a safe distance away. While she is discombobulated, charge
up the hammer. Once the beam has been deployed, you are free to move it
around with the right thumbstick, so if you miss hitting her with the
beam, just move it onto her and she will become immobile. You will have
to hit her a couple of times to kill her. Once she has been dealt with,
the act ends.

- ACT TWO - [a02]

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==============================================================================
...NIGHTFALL - Tick Tick Boom..........................................[w09]..
==============================================================================
Start down the road until you receive a transmission from Anya, telling you
that the Hammer of Dawn is offline. Continue along the road, you should come
to a dead COG soldier to your right, you can switch the Hammer of Dawn for the
dead soldier's shotgun. You will eventually come to a checkpoint and a fork in
the road. For the purpose of following this walkthrough, take the LEFT path.
You won't miss anything by taking either path.

So, on the left path: Follow Baird until you reach another checkpoint. Now go
through the doorway to your left. As you have probably already figured out,
the difference between the two paths is that with left, you will be facing the
two boomers down below, with right you will be up above them. So, if you find
things easier up above, take the right path.

Assuming that you are down below, things are going to get a little bit tricky
here, boomers are heavily armored enemies and can take a large amount of fire
before they go down. Oh, and they're packing Boomshots. Of course, there are
some ways to defeat them with relative ease. Since you just hit a checkpoint
outside of this room, you don't have to be extra cautious here. One straight
shot from a Boomshot and you are in pieces, so cover is essential here. You
should have frag grenades with you. If not, there are some grenades in an
alcove on the other side of the room across from the boomer doorway. With frag
grenades in hand, Get behind the long stone cover just across from the boomer
doorway Try to blind throw it, since, with a Boomshot, the boomers can get a
shot off real quick. To blind throw, with the frag in hand, behind cover while
not aiming, tilt the screen up and press pull the Right Trigger to lob the
grenade over your shoulder. It may take some practice, but luckily you
recently hit a checkpoint.

Once those two have been dealt with, feel free to pick up their Boomshots. Be
sure to pick up both of them so you have 8 shots. Go through the boomer hall,
grab the box of ammo if needed, and turn left. Pick up the frags on the other
side of the cage and finish off any enemies left in this room. Move through the
next two rooms, you will eventually come to a locked doorway. Use the green
button to the right of the door to open it. There is another box of ammo to
your immediate right. Get behind some cover and kill off the drones here, you
can also help your buddies by shooting the drones they are facing on the other
side of the fence. There is a sniper in the upper level of the building above,
so take him out first. Don't get too close to the masked drones, they have
Lancers and they will not be reluctant to saw you in half. Through the doorway
to the right, there is a troika gunner, so be careful. Use the Boomshot when
the gunner is turned the other way, or frag grenades, to take him out.

Inside the building, you will meet up with the other members of your squad.
Behind the troika gun emplacement there is a door. Try to kick it in, Jack
will then open it for you. Go outside and follow this path until you reach a
door in the next area. There is a set of stairs behind the door, head down
them, hop over the cover and destroy the couch to the left, under it you will
find COG tag [CT13].

==============================================================================
...NIGHTFALL - Grist...................................................[w10]..
==============================================================================
Head back up the stairs and kick in the door. Through this door another battle
will ensue. Immediately take cover, you are facing another boomer. You should
still have some Boomshot ammo left, so use it to take out the boomer in the
distance. Don't get too close and don't stay up out of cover for too long. It
may take a few Boomshot hits to kill the boomer. If you don't have any ammo
for the Boomshot left, use frag grenades, you will have to get a bit closer
though. Once the boomer has been dealt with, you can get a bit closer, just
watch for the Gnasher users who will charge at you. Don't leave yourself too
exposed, there are drones in the building to the right as well. There are two
snipers that need to be dealt with in the windows to the right as well.

Once everything in the immediate vicinity has been killed, you can make your
way to the open door to the right of the building where the snipers were. Head
up the stairs and step onto the catwalk. You will encounter some wretches up
here, so switch to a weapon that you can use to beat them down. Go through the
doorway at the end of the catwalk, you will find yourself back outside. Take
the stairs down, turn right and go behind the stairs to find COG tag [CT14].
Follow your squad to the next checkpoint. Yeah, another boomer. If you still
have Boomshot ammo, use it, if not just use frag grenades. After, take the
Boomshot ammo and follow the road to another checkpoint.

Hop over the cover and get behind the car. You can use tap the X button to
push the car along the road, allowing you to move up along the road while
avoiding the troika fire. When you reach the end of the tract, you will have
to deal with the troika gunner to your right. Switch cover to the overturned
van to the right. There are some frag grenades here if you need more. As with
the two boomers, try to blind throw the frag next to the troika gunner. Again,
it may take a few tries, but luckily you recently hit a checkpoint. Just try
and tilt the camera up so it looks like it would land near the gunner if
thrown, then pull the Right Trigger to throw the frag. If it lands too far,
tilt the screen a bit lower, too close, a bit higher, etc. There's an emergen-
ce hole at the back, once the amount of enemies has dwindled a bit, if you
can get yourself close enough to it to throw a grenade in, or can estimate a
shot from a safe distance, go for it. A good spot is the car farthest down the
road, but before the cement blocks. Look for the green smoke, then use the arc
to guide the frag in.

When the battle is over, continue down the road and take the path in the back.
You will eventually come to some stairs, at the top of the stairs look to your
right, that's the Stranded settlement. Before proceeding, from the top of the
stairs, move straight ahead and look behind the newspaper stands along the
sidewalk for the COG tag [CT15].

==============================================================================
...NIGHTFALL - Outpost.................................................[w11]..
==============================================================================
Inside the settlement, you are forced to a slow walk. Walk the road and listen
to the various insults thrown in your direction. After a short cutscene, you
will find yourself standing outside of the settlement. At the end of the road,
facing the flaming oil drum, turn left and kick in the door. Go straight,
right and then left.

==============================================================================
...NIGHTFALL - Lethal Dusk.............................................[w12]..
==============================================================================
Kick in the door and head outside. Take cover, there are drones across the
street. There are some frags in the area to the left of the stove if you need
them. There is a sniper in the house across the street, so try to aim a frag
through the door or window to take him out. There are grenadiers about, too.
They use Gnashers and occasionally throw frag grenades. When the area is
clear, shoot the propane tank across the street next to the sniper house. Head
inside and retrieve the Longshot. The Longshot is a very valuable weapon at
this point, just be sure to keep your lancer with you as well. Follow Dom down
to the tram and get on the anchor. Tap the A button to move the tram along the
water. As you will soon learn, at night in Sera, the Kryll come out. You'll
see what this entails soon, right now just concentrate on getting the tram
across the water to the other side.

Well, you'll receive a nice demonstration of what the Kryll do when you reach
the end of the tract. The Kryll devour anything that steps into the darkness.
Yup, this means that in order to move around, you can only travel through
lighted areas. This will make things difficult, but we can find ways around
this. Step off the tram and onto the platform. Head up the stairs and proceed
under the archway. If you wish, you can switch your Snub for the Boltok Pistol
on the ground here. Just press down on the D-pad to switch to the Snub, then
use the X button to pick up the Boltok and drop the Snub. Go through the next
archway and witness the tragic deaths of the men at Checkpoint One. To the
right there is a tent with all of the ammo that you could ever hope for. It
looks dark, but it is safe to go in and get the ammo. If you haven't already,
PICK UP A LONGSHOT! There is plenty of ammo to fill it up, so stock up with
everything you need and then proceed into the house to the left of Checkpoint
One.

Move through the house and you will find yourself back outside. An emergence
hold promptly opens up down the street. Remember not to step into the darkness
unless you want to be eaten alive. Now is a nice time to try out that Longshot.
Take cover behind the car just outside of the building you were just in.
Headshots are instant kills on drones, so always go for headshots. Just wait
until they pop out from cover to shoot at you. Ahh, aren't headshots
satisfying? Once those drones are dead, shoot at the propane tank to the right
of the car. Move over to the next car and shoot the propane tank behind the
sheet of metal. There is a COG tag near. From the closed emergence hole, look
to your left for a propane tank underneath the shelter. Shoot it and then roll
into the light. COG tag [CT16] is here.

Shoot the propane tank northeast of the closed emergence hole. There is a
troika gun emplacement down the road that you will have to deal with. You can
use your Longshot to kill the gunner with a headshot, just shoot right between
the guard. It might take a couple of shots because the gunner has head armor
to protect against headshot. If you want to get closer, shoot the propane tank
next to the stove and move behind the stove for cover. Kill the drones around
the troika, you can then either use the propane tanks along the side of the
road to move up or you can just run it. Go into a roadie run and roll across
the darkness to make it to the other side. Shoot the propane tank in the
doorway of the house on the left side of the road and head inside.

A wretch will break through the door at the end of the first room, so be
prepared. Up the stairs, kick in the door and you will be outside once again.
Another emergence hole will open up. It is kind of difficult to aim a grenade
from cover due to the ceiling, so you will just have to kill all of the drones
to close the hole. Thankfully, you have a Longshot with you. You will be
bothered by some wretches creeping up behind you, so you will have to periodi-
cally leave cover to beat them down with the Longshot. Just keep an eye on
your left when you are reloading or not shooting. Try to get perfect reloads
between shots, this way you can kill the drones with head armor with a single
shot to the head or with a single body shot. If you run out of Longshot ammo,
you will have to go through the house to your left to get to the drones' side
so you can close the hole with a frag grenade.

When the hole is closed, turn to your left and go follow this path to the
other side of the street where the emergence hole was. Straight ahead, shoot
the propane tank in the alley and enter the building through the door to the
left. Move through the building, when you get outside take cover behind the
car. There is a troika gun emplacement. If you still have some Longshot ammo
you can headshot the gunner. If not, tap the X button to push the car along
the street so you can avoid the troika fire and get closer to the drones. When
you reach the end of the line with the car, switch from the car to the stone
cover to the right of it. You're going to want to blind throw this frag, too.
Hopefully you still have some frags with you. Again, it may take a few tries
to get the grenade to land near the gunner, but you just recently hit a
checkpoint. It's just trial and error until you get it. If it lands too far,
tilt the screen a bit lower, too close, a bit higher, etc. Just be careful
when you pop out of cover, a drone on the upper level in a broken window to
the right.

You can get some more ammo in the room where the troika is. Follow the length
of the hallway for more ammo and some frag grenades. You're going to have to
make a run for it through the alleyway to the right. Roadie run and roll
through it until you are in another building. Kick in the door and head
outside to face some more drones. An emergence hole will open up on the other
side of the park to your left, so if you can manage to get there before it
opens up, quickly throw a grenade down to seal it. If you know exactly where
it is going to open, make a run for it. Remember, you just hit a checkpoint,
so why not make things easier for yourself? Stand before the hole and pull the
trigger to drop the grenade down without having to aim. If drones managed
to make it up, just run back through the park back to Dom's position and take
cover. Don't worry about the Kryll as you are running through the park, just
move fast. Once all of the drones have been dealt with, from the first set of
cover in the park, destroy the dresser and shoot the propane tank so you can
move safely through the park.

On the other side, in front of the scrap car to the right there is a propane
tank. Shoot it and move down the street until you reach the cement block. To
the left of this block, there is another propane tank in front of the rubble.
You will have to use the spotlight on the building to the right to guide Dom
to a light switch so you can travel this street. Head inside the building and
make your way to the top level where the spotlight is. Grab the ammo box while
you're at it. All you have to do is keep the spotlight on Dom while he makes
his way to the switch. When the lights have been activated, move the spotlight
over to the dark corner on the left side of your vision. There is a COG tag
there. Get off of the spotlight, exit this building (be careful of those pesky
wretches on your way back down) and grab COG tag [CT17]. Join Dom and fight of
the drones in this area. Another emergence hole opens up once you hit the next
checkpoint, try to land a grenade in to seal it up from the first cover.

Roadie run across the patch of darkness. There is a propane tank behind a
piece of wood to light up the next patch.

==============================================================================
...NIGHTFALL - Dark Labyrinth..........................................[w13]..
==============================================================================
After a short cutscene, you will find yourself in an interior area. This place
is crawling with wretches, so ready your beat down weapon. Once you are back
outside, turn right and look down to find COG tag [CT18]. Straight ahead from
the doorway, there is a car with a propane tank in the trunk. Shoot the
propane tank and then immediately roadie run to the car and get in front of
it. You'll be pushed down the slope, safe from the Kryll.

==============================================================================
...NIGHTFALL - Powder Keg..............................................[w14]..
==============================================================================
You are now at Chap's Gas Station. There is some Longshot ammo and frag
grenades inside the gas station, so stock up. To fuel the junker, exit the
gas station and use the fuel pump to your right. Press the X button to take
hold of the handle, then simply tap the A button to pump the fuel. Of course,
your getaway isn't going to be that simple. You're going to have to face an
onslaught of locust before you can escape this area. Get back inside the gas
station, start by destroying all of the windows. Head into the back room, once
you activate the checkpoint the drones will approach.

Again, perfect reloads are the key to success here. A single headshot will
kill the drones with head armor and a simple body shot will kill everything
else in one hit. Kill, get perfect reload, shoot drone body, repeat. The
next wave is a boomer and some wretches. The wretches will make a beeline for
you, so be sure to beat them down before they can cause too much damage. You
can take the boomer out with the Longshot. Just go for headshots. It will take
quite a few headshots to bring the boomer down however. If you're up to the
challenge, before the boomer gets too close to the station, you can stick a
frag grenade on him for a quick kill. That, or as he approaches, throw a frag
at his feet. To stick a grenade on him, run up to him with a frag in hand and
press the B button when you are close enough. Once it is attached, get the hell
out of there! Another wave of drones will follow the boomer, get back into the
gas station and finish killing.

==============================================================================
...NIGHTFALL - Burnt Rubber............................................[w15]..
==============================================================================
As the old man explains, you can only use the engine or the UV light, they
cannot both be in use at the same time. Due to this, you will have to use the
X button to switch between the driver's seat and the UV light when the Kryll
manifest. The old man will tell you when Kryll are approaching, so just switch
to the UV light when he tells you. The path to the exit is very straight
forward, so you will not get lost, you just have to follow it, stopping only
to kill the Kryll along the way.

==============================================================================
...NIGHTFALL - Last Stand..............................................[w16]..
==============================================================================
Just before the wooden bridge, turn left and duck into the building here.
There is an ammo box in here, and you can use the windows as cover while using
your Longshot, and you can easily throw grenades into the emergence hole that
opens up. When the hole opens, aim your grenade into the hole and throw it in
to seal it. Kill the remaining drones and another emergence hole will open up
in the distance. Use a frag to close this one as well. This time though, you
will have to choose a different spot to throw the frag from, somewhere along
the wooden platform. Once those drones are dead, another emergence hole will
open up to the left of the troika. There are some frags and Longshot ammo at
the end of the wooden walkway, if needed.

After that batch of drones, a boomer will appear. You can either use the
troika, the Longshot or throw a frag down to kill him. Even more drones. Take
cover and use your Longshot to bring them down. Once they are all dead, things
take a turn for the worse. Behind you, an emergence hole opens up. Hmm, more
boomers, great. However, you can use the environment to help you out. When
the emergence hole opens, it shakes loose an oil tank. It rolls and stops just
above the hole. Shoot the tank and it will begin to leak oil. Underneath the
stream of oil are some propane tanks. Shoot the propane tanks, return to cover
and wait for the explosion.
