Retro Game Walkthroughs for Luigi's Mansion (Gamecube)
Submitted By: Ghost Killer
Luigi's Mansion was a very unusual game, but some of the portrait ghosts were very tough to find and defeat. So here's my boss guide to Luigi's Mansion.

The portrait ghosts are listed, in what order you will or should come across them.

Neville
-------
Room Found: Study
Difficulty: *

This ghost is a nice way to ease into the game and is hardly much of a challenge. Neville will be rocking in his chair in this room and before you try and capture him watch out for flying books. To dispose of them, simply suck them up using the Poltergust 3000. Then face away from Neville until he yawns. This is your cue to turn around, stun him with the flashlight and suck him up.

Lydia
-----
Room Found: Master Bedroom
Difficulty: *

Again not difficult at all. Simply suck the curtains using your Poltergust and then move left in order to draw them open. This will expose the hole in the window causing a gust of wind to blow in which will then stun the ghost. Suck her up and you’re done.

Chaucey
-------
Room Found: Nursery
Difficulty: **

In order to get the baby’s attention, you must first use the Poltergust on the rocking horse. The baby will now start sending the horse at you so in order to stop this simply suck up the bouncy ball and fire it at the baby. He will now shrink you to miniature size and transport you into his crib. This is where the boss battle begins. Firstly you must avoid the rocking horses that come darting past you, then you must dodge the balls. The last ball however will settle in the crib and at this point, you must suck up the ball and shoot it at the baby. He will be exposed to your Poltergust now so use it and you’ll deplete some of his life. When he shakes you off, he will then bounce around the crib so always stay just ahead of his to avoid being crushed. The baby will fire more horses and balls at you so just watch out for those and repeat shooting the ball at it in order to defeat it.

The Floating Wirlindas
----------------------
Room Found: Ball Room
Difficulty: **

I found this one hard to get the two exposed, but just simply turn your flashlight off and wait for the man to appear. Then start using the Poltergust on the two.

Shivers
-------
Room Found: First Floor Hallway
Difficulty: **

You will see a candle holder floating in this hallway and it’s being carried by the butler. To make him reveal himself, use the fire from your Poltergust to light the candles. He will then run away into his room and it’s here you’ll find him seated on a stool. Now you just suck him up with the Poltergust.

Melody Pianissima
-----------------
Room Found: Conservatory
Difficulty: **

Tap all the instruments in order to make them play the Super Mario Bros. theme. The ghost will then appear and ask you a question. Answer it correctly and she’ll send flying music sheets at you. Suck them up with the Poltergust and then she’ll be exposed leaving you able to attack.

Mr. Luggs
---------
Room Found: Dining Room
Difficulty: ***

More difficult than the others ghosts, this nasty fat ghost will be eating his cake at the table. Simply light up the candles and he’ll reveal himself. Then suck up the cake, while sucking up the angel ghosts that try to top up the cake again and he’ll start shooting fireballs at you. To dodge these just run back and forth down the room. After this he’ll get tired and it’s now you must suck him up.

Spooky
------
Room Found: Boneyard
Difficulty: ***

Wake the dog up and he’ll start to chase you. Avoid him until Mr. Bones appears telling the dog to shut up. Then attack Mr. Bones and he’ll fall in the centre of the Boneyard. Spooky will then go for him in the centre and it’s now you must use the Poltergust on him.

Bogmire
-------
Room Found: Graveyard
Difficulty: ****

Nasty battle this, but all you need to do is suck up one black ghost and this will form a ball at the end of the Poltergust. Then shoot it at the purple ghost and you’ll be given the chance to suck it up. When the ghost breaks free simply repeat again until defeated. When attacking the purple ghost, try to steer him away from the black ghosts or else they’ll cause damage to you and let the purple ghost free.

Biff Atlas
----------
Room Found: Rec Room
Difficulty: ***

Punch the punching bag at the ghost while he’s working out and he’ll be shortly stunned. He’ll then charge at you with spinning fists so to stop him hit him two more times with the bags. He’ll then be knocked out, giving you the opportunity to suck him up.

Nana
----
Room Found: Nana’s Room
Difficulty: ***

This nice granny will stay peaceful, that is until you suck up one of the knitting balls. Be quick and fire the ball at her three times and she’ll be stunned giving you the chance to attack her with the Poltergust.

Miss Pertunia
-------------
Room Found: Second Floor Bathroom
Difficulty: **

Easy to capture. Simply shoot the ghost with ice and she’ll be exposed. Watch out when she shakes water off herself as she’ll damage you.

Slim Bankshot
-------------
Room Found: Billiards Room
Difficulty: ***

Easy to figure out what to do, but not so easy to actually do it. He’ll make a break shot and send pool balls flying around the room. While dodging them suck one up and fir it at him. Repeat two more times and he’ll be exposed.

Henry And Orville
-----------------
Room Found: Twins’ Room
Difficulty: ****

Very tough, and no easy way to deal with it. To get the twins’ attention suck the plane hanger and spin it around. They’ll appear and tell you to play hide and seek with them. They’ll order you to leave the room and return again waiting for you to find them. To find them suck on the furniture and look for the piece that vibrates. They’ll then attack you, one in a plane dropping bombs, and the other in a car driving at you. It’s best to suck up the car first and use the Poltergust on that child first. Once you’ve sucked up the child in the car focus on the airborne child.

Madame Clairvoya
----------------
Room Found: Fortune-Teller’s Room
Difficulty: *

Easy to defeat. Shine your torch on the crystal ball in the middle and she’ll appear. Then show her the five Mario items you find and she’ll then ask you to capture her. Easy!

Boolossus
---------
Room Found: Balcony
Difficulty: ****

This giant boo is made up of 15 smaller boos and the way to capture them all is simple. While avoiding the giant boo, suck him with the Poltergust 3000 and drag him towards the sharp statues on the edge. The boo will burst and the 15 smaller boos will fly around. Now you must use the ice to freeze the boos and capture them one by one until they are all gone. But after a few seconds the remaining boos will reform and combine into a giant boo again. Repeat the bursting process and you’re done.

Uncle Grimmly
-------------
Room Found: Wardrobe Room
Difficulty: **

Not so bad to capture, just so very hard to actually find him. Go back to the wardrobe room. (That’s the room that is the last one you encounter where you go through the double doors in the foyer.) He won’t appear unless you’re looking away from him, so look in the mirror and then very very quickly turn around and stun him with your light and suck him up with your Poltergust.

Clockwork Soldiers
------------------
Room Found: Clockwork Room
Difficulty: *****

Very difficult, and perhaps the most difficult portrait ghost in the game. Three ghosts need sucking up, and in order to do that you must first tap the three tables with clocks on revealing the three ghosts. They will fire pop-guns at you so watch out. In order to suck them up you need to take out their keys on their backs first leaving them vulnerable. The best thing to do is try to get all three of them sucked at once. If not try short attacks and let go when you see you’re in danger from other ghosts.

Sue Pea
-------
Room Found: Guest’s Room
Difficulty: ***

The room is all upside down and all the furniture is on the roof. However there’s a girl sleeping. This girl needs waking up though, and what better way to wake her up than with a nice blast of ice cold water. Shoot her three times and she’s ready to be sucked up. Watch out for rocking horses that attack.

Jarvis
------
Room Found: Ceramics Studio
Difficulty: ***

This ghost will first challenge you to find him in a jar seven times. It’s basically one of those “whack ‘em” games where you have to hit something when they pop up, however with this game you have to spray him with ice when he appears in one of the jars. Do this seven times and he’s exposed to your Poltergust, but watch out when you suck him up for jars that will try and hit you.

Sir Weston
----------
Room Found: Cold Storage
Difficulty: ****

This room has ice on the floor and is very slippery. Use fire to light up the two stick piles and this will reveal the ghost. He will then start to fire icicles at you so watch out! Use the fire some more and melt his ice barrier. He is now ready to suck up. Continue this until he’s finished!

Vincent Van Gore
----------------
Room Found: Balcony
Difficulty: *****

This ghost is very crafty and will bring his paintings to life! Each painting contains three ghosts of one type that you’ve beaten before so don’t worry. As you suck up each one they’ll probably drop a heart so grab it to keep your life up. Here’s the order the ghost’s come in

Orange Ghosts – Easy No Trouble.
Pink Ghosts – Easy No Trouble.
Blue Ghosts – Easy No Trouble.
Red Grabbers – Watch they don’t grab you, and suck them up as fast as you can.
Shyguy Ghosts – Try to suck more than one mask off at a time and then attack them at once.
Banana Ghosts – No trouble, just watch the bananas as you suck them up.
Bomb Droppers – Shouldn’t be too much trouble considering they have 0HP. Watch the bombs!

King Boo
--------
Room Found: Roof
Difficulty: ******

Not a nice final boss but remember the four attack moves and you shouldn’t need to threat too much over this. The giant “Bowser” will either charge at you, breathe fire on you, try to suck you up or shoot spiked bombs at you. To avoid being charged at, try not to stay to far away from him and to avoid being sucked up, don’t get too close to him either. When the fake Bowser shoots fire at you hide behind a pillar, and when he fires spiked bombs at you, suck one of them up and fire it at Bowser’s head when he attempts to suck you up. This will cause the King Boo to reveal himself so now’s your chance to try and suck him up. You won’t get it first time, so repeat the method until you defeat him, and then you’ve just beaten the final boss!

There you have it. All the portrait ghosts with their weaknesses. And with this guide you should make short work of them. Thanks for reading.
