Retro Game Walkthroughs for Viewtiful Joe (Gamecube)
Submitted By: Cycloon
First of all, if for some inexplicable reason you are reading this and don’t actually own such a brilliant game, er, go and buy it! Tis a great game, stylish and fun, and just about sums up best what is great about crazy Japanese game companies! Read the reviews at UKreviews.com to see the insides and out of this wonderful title………… anyway…

Controls:

Start - Pause

Control Pad/Control Stick - Move Joe/dodge.

C-Stick - YFX: Zoom in, Zoom out (Easier to tap B really)

L - VFX: Slow.

R - VFX: Mach speed.

Y - Punch.

X - Kick.

A - Jump/double jump in mid-air.

B - Zoom in, Zoom out (Easier than the C-Stick in my experience)

Z – Skip cut scenes (But don’t, they rock!)

*****

Basic Abilities/Skills

Every Super Hero needs his powers, and VJ has three of them, powered by the blue bars at the top of the screen. Each little bar can be extended by collecting the ‘VJ’ icons, 50 making a new bar, with exactly 250 on each level. Collecting as many as possible both helps you and improves your rating at the end of each section.

Slow: The most useful of the skills. Slow down time using R and kick some bootay! It is the best skill to use in combat, allowing you to ‘Slow’ enemies (daze them) and dodge any attack that comes your way. Tres biens! It also lets you get big multipliers by dazing the enemies and gives you lots of money. Also slows flying enemies/platforms down so they fall.

Mach Speed: Exactly what it says on the tin. Makes you go very very fast, and while it is not as useful as Slow, against weaker enemies it is very useful, as after a few taps of X/Y you set on fire and go ballistic! The pink boxes in the background can also only be broken by Mach Speed attacks on enemies or bombs, and while it does drain you VFX meter very quickly, and is not as useful, upgrading this at the shop is very useful. It also makes flying enemies/platforms climb higher very quickly.

Zoom: This is more useful than you think. VJ has style, VJ uses style – a zoom in damages weaker enemies and also makes you attacks more powerful (Zoom + X + R is very useful) Jumps turn into spinning jets of death (you’ll see) and are quite powerful. Holding R + L + Y in Zoom means you get a very powerful attack, one that is well worth using if you get stuck in a bit of bother.

L/R/Zoom/Y is extremely useful. Experiment with combinations.

******

Shop:

Have money and you’re at a checkpoint? Go to the shop. A lot of the stuff is useless, but a lot is essential to progress:

Cheeseburger - 1000 V-Points: Restores one life/one of the little hearts. If you are really low, either don’t bother or just buy an extra heart container – it fills all of them up and gives you waay more health.

Shocking Pink - 1500 V-Points: Gives you a load of bombs to kick and punch at enemies. Useful for getting the pink boxes in the background, but these aren’t the most useful things as when you really need them, you are normally given them.

Voomerang - 2000 V-Points: Cool if nothing else. Voomerangs are Joe’s little V on his helmet – turn them into rather weak boomerangs with Y. Quite useful on mini enemies, but like Shocking Pink not that useful.

Sliding - 5000 V-Points: Down and X equals this little sliding kick. Good for taking out weak enemies and moving past larger ones smoothly and speedily.

Air Joe - 5000 V-Points: X + Y as fast as you can deliver this little move that is quite effective again at weaker enemies. Useful if you have spare change hanging around. Sliding is more useful, but this is good when beset on all sides.

Red Hot Kick - 8000 V-Points: Down and X is mid air = this kick. Quite useful, better when Zoomed in, as it becomes a bit more powerful. Good for moving distance and attacking at the same time.

Mach Speed - 10000 for level 2 and 30000 for level 3: Makes you move even faster in Mach Speed – Essential for later on. Worthy upgrades.

Viewtiful Forever - 20000 V-Points: Not as good as it says it is, but quite useful. Probably the least effective of the expensive upgrades, simply be Zoomed in when finishing an attack.

Ukemi - 30000 V-Points: Saves damage when you are hit – A great move, simply Zoom BEFORE a fall. Time it right and you SHOULD recover the damage you incurred, if it did not kill you. Just before you hit the ground, press B/C-Stick up.

VFX Turbo Charger - 30000 V-Points: Doubles the rate of recovery on your VFX metre. Excellent purchase, should be one of your first, as it basically allows you to be in a mode for twice as long as before, so Slow becomes doubly effective, for example.

Life - starts at 3000, incrementally increases to 200000 V-Points: Life gauge goes up one. Buy them to fill up your life gauge if they are still cheap. Save the pricier ones for later on/your next play through.

Take 2 - 10000 V-Points: Restart from where you died. Limited really. Quite useful, but chances are you’ll be using it on a boss, so restarting there is a wasted 10000.

L.I.V. - starts at 1000, ends at 20000 V-Points: Life Is Viewtiful. Extra Life.

Grading:

At the end of each section, you get ‘graded’ as the Yanks would say. V,A B,C or D, depending on how you did for Defense (damage incurred) Time and V-Points collected. ‘Viewtiful’ is the best rating. D, I’ve er, never got. :D

Walkthrough – Kids is easier, Adults harder. Adults lets you unlock more rewards than the basic Kids mode. Kids is probably recommended for the first play through, unless you want to challenge the game from the off.

Episode 1: Joe The Hero

Easy. Simply play your way through, picking up any V-Points you find and testing your moves on the easy enemies. Stroll through and meet Captain Blue...

Boss: Captain Blue

Your first boss is really easy. Simply wait for him to attack to see what he does, or if he jumps, he’s gonna do a Red Hot Kick, so run out of the way. If he falls back and yells, he runs and tries to punch you.
Jump over. If he crackles, run away and jump above the electricity he casts on the ground. Otherwise, just kick his butt whenever you get the chance.

You’ll get the red ‘Henshin’ suit then. Run out the VFX (with your new Slow skill) meter and wait for Joe to say it, the greatest line in a game ever;

‘HENSHIN AGO-GO BABY!!’

From now on, running out of VFX will revert you back to grainy old Joe, but the Henshin suit is more powerful, so be careful, otherwise you have to wait for the VFX meter to recover.

Continue right from the ‘boss’ and mess about on the weaklings you encounter. Collect *any and all* boxes/V-points you see. Vital! You’ll come up on the next boss soon after…

Boss: Joker
You’ll have to fight him a lot in VJ. He attacks by spinning for a few seconds and then appearing in front of you to punch. Go up to him and use Slow to punch and kick – Kicks are way more powerful. After a few combos, the Joker will be dead. Easy.

Use the coin on the slot machine. Use Slow to slow the reels down to a useful level, and punch (quicker) the machine when the icon you want is in the middle. If you get all skulls, you'll lose a heart. If you get all hamburgers, you get a hamburger = One heart replenished. If you get all coins, you get a bunch of V-Points. If you get all V's, you get a key. I recommend getting all the coins/hamburgers you can, because you need it all, the money especially. Then get all the ‘V’s to get the key. Unlock the door.

Kill all the enemies in the next section. Knocking them into the axe-knights gives you some food for health. Continue on to the library.
A cowboy appears here. Go into Slow and punch his bullets back. He is about to fire when he spins them. Once his bullets hit him, kick him as quick as possible and repeat. There re some canisters on the chandelier, and then kill all the robots left. A pile
of books appears. Simply move right and they slot into a convenient hole. Jump up to get the canisters, and carry on.

Run along the table and kill the flying dudes using Slow. Run to the end and Slow the platform so you can use it to hit the lever on the right hand side of the screen. Run back along the table and on to the chandelier that falls down. Jump along and onto the next section.
Run along the balconies, killing the frilly ballerina robots (crazy Japs) and nabbing the key. Prepare for a boss, one you will face many times……..

Boss: Black Thunder

Use Slow to punch the helicopters bullets back. The missiles can just be hit in normal speed. Use Slow to lower the ‘chopper and jump on, pounding it the whole time. Ignore the other baddies unless they get in your way. Slow + X/Y is probably the best way of taking this bad boy out. Go down the stairs when you win.

Here is another puzzle you will have to repeat many times… First collect everything you can in the room, then use Slow to make the dripping water huge. It will fall onto the switch. Now run as fast as you can to the open door. Run through the next room and meet Captain Blue again. He is much easier, as you now have Slow to use.

You get Mach Speed from him. Uppercut (crouch and press Down and Y – very useful move) on the barrel, and Mach under it. Run down the staircase. Either Mach all the way down to escape the barrel, or collect the stuff – its not that fast.

The next area has a faster barrel. Slow uppercut enemies into the powerups above that you can’t reach, and then Mach speed away from the barrel.

Run into the next room, and Mach attack the dead furnaces. Once all are lit, the door will open. Run through, and punch the coffin at the end of the path. First true boss awaits…..
Boss: Dark Fiend, Charles the Third

The way to kill this poncey bat is to hit him, then use slow to hit as many of the bats that he breaks up into as possible. He uses several attacks – A red disc that shoots around the floor and through the air. Easy to avoid. – He attacks the ceiling and sends stalactites down – if you hit him as he tries, you can deal massive damage. He also tries to attack you directly, but a simple Slow will deal with him there. Slow + X/Y on the bats and he’s finished!

Episode 2: Some Like It Red Hot

Go left and collect, then go right and use Mach Speed on the platform. Jump over the sewage spray (or whatever it is) and face the two cowboys –take them on one at a time. Go to the right until you meet Captain
Blue. Use the same strategy to beat him. You will get ‘Zoom’ and remember the B + R + L + Y attack – very useful. Go back left until you reach the now open manhole cover. Use a Zoom and spinkick to hit the two poles equally. Carry on until you find two boxes in
spikey water. Jump on either box and then use Mach Speed to raise the
water level. Kill the baddies and dodge the lasers. At the end of the corridor will be a platform and a lot of bats.
Kill the bats using the Zoom spin kick (easy and quick) and use Mach Speed to raise the platform upwards. At the top is a room with more bats and robots. Use the spin kicks again to kill the bats, then kill the robots and the last one will give you some film canisters. To open the door, go Slow and it will charge and open. In the next
area, you'll find a Joker again. Use the new B+Y+L+R move, and finish him. When he’s dead, use the Slow move on the slots. Use the key to get
blown upwards, out of the sewers. In the next scene, kill everything, as usual. However, there is a pink box that you can only get if you uppercut someone into it, so save an enemy for that. Go right to meet the two armored trucks, and beat up the frilly ladies again.

Kill everything and wait. A bus will come up and you'll need to jump on it. While on top of it, hold down Slow. The rockets on the bus will charge up and if you release L when the bus is close to the gap, it should clear it. Above the bus is a pink box, and below the bus are Voomerangs and Shocking Pinks, but you need Sliding in order to get them. Do so if you can, otherwise hang on!
Head to the left, there's some film canisters over there. When you're readyto fight some helicopters, head to the right. The helicopters are exactly the same as the one you fought in Episode 1, just be a bit more careful as there are two of them. Afterwards, go right and enter the hotel. In the hotel, massacre the enemies and then climb the chandeliers.

At the top, B + jump to activate the switch, which will lower two chandeliers, and use these to reach statues holding jewels. Destroy the statues to get the jewels (there's one jewel on each side of the room and you can only carry one) and carry them to the lift in the bottom-right corner of the room. You have to do this one after the other. Enter the lift once done. In the next room, use Slow to lower a platform. Raise the platform and destroy the chandelier at the top to get a key. Use the key to open the door on the left. Inside, kill all the enemies to get some books and put the books on the bookshelf. This will cause the shelf to become climbable, and jumping on top of it will need you to Zoom + Jump to break the ceiling open. Through the door in this room, the next room has some more cowboys. Kill them and collect the canisters on the ceiling. Jump and use Zoom to blow open the floor here, where you can see light coming through.
Try to lure the baddie back up to mach the box in the background for infinite VFX for a little bit. Finish off the dude and go through the door on the bottom. Here, you'll fight a lot of enemies, so stay in Slow and recharge only when safe, and rack up a rather nice combo. However, make sure you uppercut someone, because there's a box
holding some film canisters up near the ceiling. Use the key you got from the last bad guy to enter the elevator and go to the next area. Punch the bomb over to the door and hold Slow to blast the door open. In the next room, kill everything and then blast the door on the right. Go into that room and kill the Lady robot to get another key. There are some canisters near the ceiling, so pick them up.

Uppercut a SLOW bomb into the ceiling. Slow jump through the hole this should make – Slow makes you just reach upwards. Dodge the lasers and make your way to the bomb at the end of the room. Punch it over to the door and use R to set it on fire. Then use Slow to blast the door open. Double-jump out to get some canisters near the ceiling, and is use the key to enter the lift and access the next area – kill all but one guy here, uppercut him into the ceiling again to get a box. Go through the door, kill everything and then Zoom + Down the switch to lower the stairs. Go up and to the right and then go to the left to fight the Joker. Beat him and use the slots again. Use the books on the bookshelf. Go through the next room, the door on the right and Down + Zoom the bath. Jump through the hole and kill the robot in the pit. To get out, stand on the table next to the right hand wall and jump (Use Slow if you really need to) Use the key to open the lift and get to the hundredth floor. Slow uppercut the bomb chandelier to chandelier. When it reaches the uppermost chandelier, it will get set on fire, so Slow punch it over to the door and hold Slow. The bomb should explode and open the passage to the next boss. It always respawns, so you have unlimited goes, and it’s not that hard.

Boss: Iron Ogre, Hulk Davidson

Hahahaha. Genius character. He’s big, slow and powerful. He makes a lot of splash damage through shockwaves as he bounds about the room. Dodge as far as possible to avoid these nasties. He attacks at two levels, a very low hit or a charge. Jump over both and use Slow to give him a good pounding – it’d help to use Zoom as well. Watch his health bar, as if you are attacking and doing no damage, he is blocking you, which means his axe will break. He also does a major attack (as signified by a larger skull warning) Dodge unless you want everything on fire and you pretty mashed up. Mach speed to put the fires out, but it’s better if it doesn’t happen in the first place. Continue to dodge any missiles he sends at you, and use Slow/Zoom/L+R+B+Y to kick his rino butt.

Episode 3: 2,000,000 Leagues Under The Sea

You start off in VJs quality Six Machine. Use Slow to enlarge and explode the laser bolts (Y) and bombs (X) respectively. Kill a whole chain of enemies to get canisters. It’s pretty easy, but hard to get all the canisters, so just concentrate on getting through it.
Boss: Harrier

When he’s in range, use SLOW laser bolts, bombs if he’s beneath you slightly. Zoom + X repels any missiles back at him. He’s pretty easy, like most of the Harriers in the game.

You fall down, try and pick up as much stuff as possible – the boxes all have useful treats in them. As you hit the city, kill all the badguys to get a remote. Use it to bring the platform from the entrance to the far right of the big room. Get used to these remotes, as you’ll have to use them a lot more in this episode. Use the platform to flick
the switch in the next room and carry on. In the next room, kill and collect everything. There are the 4 poles from episode 2. If you activate a pair at the same time (Zoomed Spin kick, or Down + Zoom from mid-air), you will get a red vial or an extra life. Carry on and kill the two guards here. There is plenty of stuff to collect all
around the room, so search about. Kill the two guards in the next room as well, and carry on to fight another Joker. Get ‘V’s on the machine, you'll get a security card and put it into the slot in the wall on
the right to disarm the bomb, lowers the water level, and unlocks the door near the entrance. Either mach speed back to the start (quicker) or kick some butt to improve your rating.

Boss: Aquatic Terror, Gran Bruce

First of all, stay out of the water. On land you can easily beat this guy. On land, he uses 3 attacks. He throws up
stuff (Gamecubes and evenn NES's, among other things) trying to hit you. These are pretty easy to dodge, especially in Slow.
Otherwise, just jump and dodge his second attack, a tornado, moving into the back/foreground if necessary. Finally, Bruce charges up and then goes around the arena trying to eat you. If he is in water, he is very dangerous. If he catches you hammer the control stick to escape with minimal hurt. Stay out of the water and hammer him in Slow/Zoom, especially after he’s been charging about the stage. Keep on him or else his health recharcges!

Episode 4: The Viewtiful Escape

This is quite tricky. You are in a large sub, that is constantly firing torpedoes….for some reason. Use he dips and cavities in the ceiling to avoid the torps as they fire through. Kill the robots if you really need to, otherwise grab the remote from the map halfway across the level to your right and go back left to pick up another platform – USE SLOW TO MAKE IT GO IN GAPS WITH YOU! This is tricky, but if you DON’T TAKE RISKS, you should be fine, otherwise you have to do it all again. Use Zoom to break floors and ceiling spaces open, if you have time. Run back to the right, and when you reach the map, jump back on and use Mach speed to rise upwards. Kill all the bad guys, and then use Slow to lower the platform on the other side of the gate to open the gate. Jump on this platform and use Mach speed to rise up and enter the bridge.
When in, use Zoom to break the place open, and then go to the end of the bridge and beat the bigger badguy (no mercy, these guys are quite tough) Pick up the wheel he drops and go to the end of the bridge and insert the wheel and then hit it to rotate the sub by 180 degrees. Go back to the torpedo tube. Carry on right, and find the torpedo chamber. Use mach speed to run across the torps, and then drop down the platforms (Down + A) carry on until you reach the bottom.

Head to the right through the narrow passage and then carry on up until you see some spinning gears. Use SLOW to hit the yellowish bits to stop them spinning. Do this before fighting the robots here as well. Get the key and use it to unlock the door on the right. Fall down the hole and go through the corridor at the bottom.

Kill all the enemies, and then activate the poles. Watch for the 3 orange lights that turn blue, and remember their positions. You then need to hit these three now-blue lights. If so, the torpedoes will be disabled, and you won’t have to worry about them anymore! Woo!

Go back to the bridge, hit the wheel again, and go back to where the torpedoes used to be fired. Go in the hole, and through the next…

Boss: Another Joe

*Watch the cut-scene. HAHA!*

Use Zoom + X (spin kick) to stop this dudes attacks. He bursts into 4 clones, which can either circle and attack or all come at once. He also summon his very own Six Machine, which fires lasers and gives you a hamburger for killing it. Dodge these with any means necessary, and wait for AJ or seek him out. If he appears next to you, get him as quickly as possible. Otherwise, seek him out – you will be more damaged, but it is quicker. Just keep on attacking him, the powerful L/R/B/Y move or Zoom + X is very useful for this level.

Run out the corridor, and Slow uppercut the torpedoes when you need to get past them. Jump up the platforms and dodge the lasers and enemies.

Episode 5: The Midnight Thunder Boy

Remember this? It’s better now. Go left and kill the enemies to get an extra L.I.V. Go right to fight a tank. You can Slow + punch it’s shells back, use Zoom to make this more powerful. Or daze one of its minions and send it into the tank – very effective. Jump over its charges and spins and you should do it easily. Also use it to get the canisters from on high above too. Carry on right and fight the harrier, use slow and attacks when you jump on it, jumping off when it goes near the lava. Reflecting its bullets is relatively effective too. Repeat the jumping off it like with the tank to get even more canisters much higher up. Head back left, drop down the manhole, and use Zoom + Down to activate the pillars in the sewers. In the next room, there are more dripping pipes. Use Slow to make the droplets huge and make
platforms in the lava. Be VERY quick. Once done, stand on a platform and use Mach Speed to raise the lava and double-jump to the next area. Here, make your way platform to platform, getting hamburgers where necessary. At the end, get the flag and use mach speed upwards for health if needed, just to the flag and the lady robots right.

Again, use Slow to make huge water drops and platforms in the
lava. Cross the hardened lava to yet another platform. Use Slow to lower it and find more pipes. Use Slow to harden the lava and make your way to a room occupied by a Joker. Kill him, and get the Vs etc. Get the bombs from the machine and SLOW kick/punch it into the hole on the right. Use Slow to make it explode and make sure you are on the Slot machine when doing so. Once blasted upwards, run up the slope to the right and the plane at the end. The lava will lower. Go past and fight the tank and plane…

Wait for it to pass once, then jump on it and use Slow to land. You’ll be taken for a ride. You have to drop down and back up out of each carriage to escape, from right to left. You don’t necessarily have to kill all the enemies to get the keys, and be very quick on the big yellow enemies. In the first carriage, kill everything to get the key. In the second carriage and all the ones after it, there will two paths one upper and one lower blocked by grating. Hit the grating to destroy it. Take the lower path then the upper path. At the next fork, take upper for the key and then exit the car. In the third car, go upwards for some loot, and then at the next fork, go upwards again for a red VFX vial. Kill the yellow dude and jump out. Kill the enemies, and then stay on the buttons at the end to slooow the train down. Then you’ll fight…

Boss: Blade Master, Alastor

He has 4 attacks. He either charges you with his sword (jump over him) He fires swords at you from a distance that attack TWICE. Dodge to avoid these, or Zoom + X to send the back if you are quick enough. He also rises up and fires a laser bolt downwards. Avoid again, but tricky if his next attack is still in motion. He unleashes some blocks that constantly fire lasers around the stage. Easy enough by themselves, but can be tricky if in league with another attack. Attack when possible, noting he recoils, so there is no chance for huge combo hits. Try and knock him in the lava to leave him open, and keep at him to stop him attacking.

Episode 6: The Magnificent 5

Bosses, endless bosses.

Charles: Hit him when he’s a drill to knock him about. Use mach speed to knock him in into the background. Use one of the stalactites + Uppercut to get canisters waay above. Use Zoom + X to kill all the little bats. Use Red Hot Kick too.

Hulk: Use the same strategy again, but dodge one of his attacks and then Mach attack him to get the box behind his desk.

Bruce: Use the same strategy. This fight is easy because of the hamburger, and just stay away from the attacks. Obvious really.

Another Joe: Use the same strategy, but collect all of the canisters. Also a mach attack on AJ is useful as there are hidden boxes all over the arena, and you need all the help you can get for the last level.
Boss: Inferno Lord, Fire Leo

Run with mach speed towards him, attack one of the rocks to set on fire, then hit Leo to extinguish his fire. Slow attack his shield and smack him up as quick as possible when it breaks. Use Slow to dodge his attacks, and he will go into the lava. Make sure he doesn’t land on you, and Slow/jump over him to attack him again. Easy.

Episode 7: Joe & Silvia

Final levels are hard, and of course VJ takes the biscuit (hey, it does rock!)

Have some fun in the wild first room. Kill everything and after you’ve grown old try and mach attack some enemies into the boxes scattered around. To unlock the door, find the blue pads and get really high above them, using the flying enemies. Then turn on Slow/Zoom + Down to shock them from very high above them. You should turn on the pad. The pad will make a sound and say “ON” if you do it correctly. When you turn all 3 on, carry on. The two next tanks summon harder bad guys than the ones you have fought before, so just concentrate on Slow/Zoom/Punching their shells back at them. You have to uppercut an enemy to get the canisters here – tough. In the next room are two ‘Metal Leos’. One is up higher and one is lower down. To kill either one, L/R/B/Y one until you break down its shield and then dodge, finishing it off afterwards. Carry on to a large battle again. Kill all but one enemy from the first wave and knock him into the canisters. The enemy comes on in waves, and while you can see the exit, you can’t leave until all enemies are dead. Kill everything. A Joker will appear, avoid his sword and kill him. Use Mach Speed instead of Slow to get a key, then carry on to the next section.

Kill the enemies, then hit the rockets so they attack the ships attacking Earth. Use Slow to make them more powerful.

Go through the door again to find another moving platform battle (yay! Kill all the Metal Leos and collect the canisters near the ceiling. Use the key you get from the last Leo is used to access the last section, yet more endurance fights against a lot of waves of enemies, just with a time limit! There are 4 sections, each progressively harder. Use uppercuts on enemies to collect the items and be quick! Then you have to fight…

Boss: The Omnipotent, King Blue

He can hide in the scenery, so don’t attack when he’s small. He has five attacks; a lightning strike that hits most things. Standing still is your best hope. He has another attack that looks like this, but then expands into a more deadly attack. Dodge this by finding a lightning bolt as he fires it and staying close Duck to avoid his other lightning attack, and he also can come up and summon missiles from the ship in the background. When his tower appears, Mach Speed attack it to stop him from using his second lighting attack (the expanded one). Dodge the missiles using Up/Down on the control stick. If he disappears into the background and summons some enemies, attack him. If you are lower down, the enemies will hit you and you won’t have much of a chance, so stay higher up if possible. Simply dodge the attacks and get in on him when possible, and watch out for when he crackles with electricity – he hurts you when you hit him then…

Boss: Captain Blue

He fight like he did before, so fight like you did, just be wary – he can now Mach Speed and has some new tricks, but he is weak and does not take much damage…

Complete the game and play through on harder levels to unlock more characters and items…..you can play through with all your skills again if you choose continue…..

Enjoy and thanks for reading!

Part 4

4.5 - Episode 5: The Midnight Thunderboy

1st

Go forward and defeat the enemies, thwn you'll be trapped between lava columns.

-- Mission 1: Destroy the tank --

The easiest way to do this is to use slow and zoom to hit its bullets back at it. This will finish it in 2-3 hits.

Jump over the sewer and you'll fight a plane similar to the helicopter.

-- Mission 2: Destroy the plane and get the key --

This is very similar to defeating the helicopter, except you can't sink it with slow. Jump high, go slow, use zoom, and you can spin kick it into eternity. Once that's done. jump on the manhole to enter the sewer. Be careful, it's a lava sewer.

Hit each bulb four times, then use a zoom dive to light them at the same time. Go through the door.

-- Mission 3: Get to the flag --

Much harder than the last time. Don't use Mach Speed until you see what's waiting for you - a pool of lava. Go to the bottom to see, then go up to the next ledge and raise the lava to that point with Mach Speed. Use Slow to make the dripping water accumulate and form a tiny platform; keep doing this to get across.
Here, you'll have to navigate platforms (at the one that goes up, stay to the far left side and avoid spouting fire), until you get to the flag.

Fight off the Girl Scouts, then go to the right side of the rock and use Slow to loewr a platform. Use Mach Speed to raise it to an alcove full of boxes, then go back down and wait until dripping water provides a platform. Get to the flying platform, then go down and cross to the Joker.

-- Mission 4: Defeat the Joker and leave --

The Joker is the same as always, but the slots are not. Instead of getting three V's (which will give you some V-films), you need to get three bombs. Stand on the right side and get three bombs, then quickly kick one into the hole in the wall, jump on the slots and slow down time. You'll be launched out.

-- Mission 5: Defeat all the enemies --

What I do here is run up to the end, then kick bombs back at the guns and use slow when they explode; this destroys the guns. Defeat the other enemies, then when the big guys appear, wait for them to attack, then get behind them and use zoom punches. If they wind up a punch, jump over them; if they beat their chest, run under them. Run to the end, then run back to find a plane. Destroy it, and you'll be done.

Go onto the bridge.

-- Mission 6: Destroy the vehicles --

First, you have a tank to destroy, then a plane. That's it, though.

Your last job is to jump on the train. Time it carefully so you don't land on a smokestack or some such.

2nd

Your overall mission is to get to the brakes and stop the train. You have 400 seconds. Drop into the train.

-- Mission 1: Get the key 1 --

Defeat the enemies in here, then a Girl scout will appear; defeat her to get the key. Jump through the exit in the ceiling.

Go to the next car.

-- Mission 2: Get the key 2 --

Break through the grating on top and go through, then break another top
grating to get to a safe; destroy it to get the key. Go back and break the bottom grating, then go through and get out. You can defeat the remaining enemies if you want.

Go to the next car.

-- Mission 3: Get the key 3 --

Break and go through both bottom gratings, then defeat the big guy to get the key. Exit the car.

Go two cars further, and you'll be met with Black Leaders.

-- Mission 4: Stop the train --

Defeat the two enemies with slow zoomed punches (about 3 each), then stand on the switch and use Mach Speed until the brakes stop the train.

Power up, then continue on to the Midnight Thunderboy.

-- Boss: Alastor (Blade Master) --

Alastor can send electric beams at you, or summon five stone blocks to circle the room, emitting electricity. To avoid that, jump over them, or kick the stone. The way to beat Alastor is to knock him into the lava, where he'll appear dazed in the fountain, and very vulnerable to slow, zoomed punches.

You'll discover your hero name, Viewtiful Joe, then Alastor will be gone, and the announcer will be annoying. Way to beat Episode 5.

4.6 - The Magnificent 5

This level is very simple in concept: fight five bosses. Four you've faced already, but now they're stronger, faster, and have more stamina.

-- Boss: Charles the 3rd (Dark Fiend) --

To defeat this guy, kick him in VFX Slow, then defeat the bats that appear. He uses a drill attack that sweeps across the floor four times; jump over it. He will also let stalactites drop from the ceiling; sometimes he gets trapped under one, so unleash your fury then.

Alert reader tonythekitty writes: "But a tip on beating charles the hard...you say avoid his floor sweeping move 4 times. this is in fact the best time to destroy him. Simply slow, zoom, spin kick. he will die oh so fast. if you don't have zoom then just slow and unleash a little fury. you will auto dodge his attack in slow mo, and continue beating his *** once he has 'gone through you'" Thanks for the tip!

-- Boss: Hulk Davidson (Iron Ogre) --

He'll jump at you, always jump to avoid the shockwave. When three skulls appear at the bottom, dodge up, then attack. When a huge skull appears, go slow and jump to dodge the axe. On occasion, fire will drop from a chandelier, but it won't hurt if you use Mach Speed and punch and kick a lot. He'll also charge at you; jump, then attack while he's dazed. On occasion, he'll fire missiles at you, but you can kick them and they'll home in on him.

-- Boss: Gran Bruce (Aquatic Terror) --

Among this guy's attacks are: chomping around after you (use Mach Speed to run away), making bombs (easy to avoid), flinging garbage (go slow), and a vortex (stay away from him). If you use slow zoomed punches, he'll die pretty fast.

-- Boss: Another Joe --

Another Joe tends to move around a lot really fast. He has all your basic attacks, and can also summon clones of himself to grab onto you and attack. To avoid these, you need to slow down and attack each ones that comes at you (really fast). He'll also summon your ship to fire at you. Other than that, this shouldn't be too hard; use slow zoomed punches when you get the chance.

Nah, you won't fight Alastor. But power up and continue to see an interesting scene, then you'll face a slightly more annoying boss.

-- Boss: Fire Leo (Inferno Lord) --

The first thing he'll do is launch rocks in the air, adn the first thing you want to do is to punch a rock at Mach Speed until you're on fire; then you can avoid all the fire attacks he throws at you long enough to go and hit him. This will stop his fire, and you can hurt him a lot with slow zoomed punches (after you break his shield, anyway). He'll do an easy-to-avoid ballerina move for a while, and the cycle will start again once you've hit him enough, or when he falls into lava. Once his health meter is red, he'll start moving really fast. After a whole lot of hits, he's done for.

The Adult Cycle Of Leo: He'll run around spouting rocks. Punch one with Mach Speed to get your flame on, then run to him and attack with a slow zoom punch. Use Slow to dodge his attack, then move out of the way. Once you break his shield and he starts spinning, start coming down on top of him with a slow zoom dive, then dodging. This works even better if you have Viewtiful Forever.

You'll be reunited with Silvia, albeit briefly, as King Blue will snatch her away. You'll ride off after her on Six Machine. The final battle approaches...

4.7 - Episode 7: Joe & Sylvia

1st

Upon entering, you'll notice a room really, really full of bad guys. Go forward to open up launching bays for Die Fighters.

-- Mission 1: Hit the three switches and open the door --

This is actually a fabulous time to get lots of V-points, as the enemies are limitless. Your mission, however, is to hit the three switches. Go forward to the first switches, then go back and jump to a platform. Jump up as high as you can, then double-jump to the line of V-films that direct you to the switch. At the very top, use slow and zoom, then you'll uberdive onto the switch, activating it. Do the same for the other two, using Die Fighters to get up when necessary. Sometimes, Die Fighters will interrupt your dive, and you'll have to do it again; this can be very frustrating, especially the last time. Once all three switches are hit, go through the door.

Go forward to find two space tanks.

-- Mission 2: Destroy the tanks --

Space tanks are no different from regular tanks. Hit their bullets back at them in slow while zoomed, and they'll be gone in 2-3 hits.

In the next room, you have to face the Metal Leos for the first time.

-- Mission 3: Destroy the Metal Leos --

There are two Metal Leos in this room; one is way up high, one is way down low. To destroy each one, just use slow zoomed punches until their shield breaks and then some. At the top of the room are a lot of V-points.

Exit through the door once you're done. Save and power up, then continue on to the 2nd act.

2nd

This room is a conveyor belt ride...with enemies!

-- Mission 1: Get the key --

On this conveyor belt, you'll find many enemies, including ballerinas,
Girl Scouts and Gelbys. At the end, you'll fight a Joker, but the slots instead of going fast, go really slow. Use Mach Speed to speed them up until they're where you want. Get three V's, then use the key to open the door.

-- Mission 2: Destroy the ships --

You'll notice ships in the background, and missiles firing in the foreground. You have to punch the missiles in the foreground so they attack the ships in the background. The small ships each require five missiles, and the two big ones require eight each. You'll be attacked by Gelbys occasionally, and of course, there're the lasers.

Go through the door, and you'll find another conveyor belt.

-- Mission 3: Get the key...again --

You'll have to fight off three Metal Leos before you get the key. Fire will be blown at you sometimes.

Once you leave, you'll begin The Ascent, as I like to call it. Room after room of climbing upwards, destroying enemies. For enemies to appear, you have to stand on certain platforms. At the end of each one, jump to the top. Oh yeah, you're timed every time.

-- Mission 4: Destroy 8 enemies --

Three are on the ground, two are on a platform, and the last three are on another platform.

-- Mission 5: Destroy 8 more enemies --

They're rather scattered about. You'll have to go in a couple of circles around the room to find them.

-- Mission 6: Destroy 4 enemies --

Keep going up to uncover four Gelbys.

-- Mission 7: Destroy 2 enemies --

Step on the right platform and you'll fight two Metal Leos.

-- SPOILER ALERT -- SPOILER ALERT -- SPOILER ALERT --

Power up, then prepare for the final battle against...Captain Blue? Yes, Captain Blue is the villain, not to mention Silvia's father, and also the same person as...

-- Boss: King Blue (The Omnipotent) --

Since King Blue is huge, you'll have to be huge, so you're fighting in Six Majin. YOu're kind of walking on the edge of the round Earth, too. Most of King Blue's time is spent in the background, sending attacks your way. To avoid the huge lightning attack, just don't move. You can jump over missiles and run from Die Fighters using Mach Speed, and you need to destroy any towers that pop up. The only time that you can attack King Blue is when he appears in the foreground; use slow zoomed punches, as always. After a short while, King Blue will be defeated.

You're not done yet. You still need to face the young, still-in-his-prime Captain Blue.

-- Final Boss: Captain Blue --

This is similar to the other Captain Blue battles, except he's a much more formidable foe this time. He can use Mach Speed, and he has all sorts of new lightning attacks now. His stamina is not nearly that of King Blue's, though, so he'll go down pretty fast.

Congratulations, you've beaten Viewtiful Joe! Now sit back and watch the ending. SIT! NOW!
