Passing the A-License Tests.

All Gold Will Win: Mazda RX-8 (not available to buy)

A-1 : Race Cornering 1: Honda NSX Type Zero

Fairly simple. Control your wheelspin off the starting line by keeping your revs at about 55000rpm. once away go flat out down the straight. Move to the left to go over the crest and then brake hard down to second gear half way between the 100m and 50m signs. Apply gentle throttle aorund the middle of the corner and then accelerate hard over the final third. As you exit let the car drift to the outside of the corner.

A-2 : Race Cornering 2: Nissan Skyline GT-R V-spec II (R34)

Similar to A-1, The skyline is fairly easy to drive off the line. Hug the pit wall, moving out to the right as the pitwall ends. As you pass a point on the track where it narrows, brake hard and turn in tight to the apex. Dab the throttle and accelerate smoothly out of the corner, gently correcting oversteer by tapping in the opposite direction to the turn.

A-3 : Race Cornering 3: Honda S2000

Control the wheelspin as before, and accelerate hard to the end of the straight. Brake a little down into thrid as you turn in, aiming for the inside kerb. Then get back on the accelerator heading towards the outside of the track. Flat out to the finish.

A-4 : Circular Turning 1: Mazda RX-7 Type RZ

Accelerate smoothly, and gently turn in towards the kerb. Get up to a steady 105 kph and drive around as tight to the kerb as possible, minding the cones! Ghen two thirds of the way around the last lap, accelerate the rest of the way at full throttle. You may wish to use manual transmission to stop the car from skipping between 2nd and 3rd gears.

A-5 : Circular Turning 4: Mazda RX-7 Type RZ

As before, but the wider radius means that you can go faster. This time Feather the throttle to keep your speed in the region 130-140kph, and do everything else as for A-4

A-6 : Taking Long Corners: Jaguar XKR Coupe

From the rolling start, race to the end of the straight. Brake and turn in as you pass under the 50m hoarding, down to high second gear. Accelerate through the two right handers treating them as one continuous corner. Make sure you exit the corner close to the right hand side of the track. Turn in to the left hander as you reach the end of the stripey kerbing on the right hand side, and release the accelerator. Coast around the first half of the corner, and then accelerate out of the bend, being careful not to touch the gravel at all on the exit. Remain on the right hand side down to the finish line.

A-7 : Taking Blind Corners : Cheverolet Camaro Z28

This is a tough test. Race at full speed up the hill, moving as far left as possible. Make sure you are going straight as you hit the jumps, else you will be thrown against the barrier and will loose speed. At the top the barrier peels away from the track. Brake as you pass this point, down to 100kph. Turn in at full lock, getting as close to the inner barrier as you possibly can (This will take practice!). Pass the wall on the right and accelerate out of the corner, using the outside kerb.

A-8 : License Test : Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IV GSR

Despite what the line on the track tells you, you should be able to run all the way down to the hairpin flat out provided you get the line just right. Turn in to the 1st righthander early, using all of the kerb. Then halfway around turn and aim for the cones! because of your speed you should miss them, but cut the corner very tightly and end up to the right of the blue line, in a better position for the hairpin than the computer suggests. Brake very hard down to second at the 50m marker, and then take the apex tightly, not accelerating til well past the cones.

A1

Head slightly to the left of the blue line to cut the distance to the corner, then follow the markers exactly. Pump the accelerator at first when going into the right bend. To make up a bit of time, you may want to start braking just after the markers suggest.

A2

Keep to inside edge, ignoring blue line, then line yourself up for the corner. As red marker appears, slam on brakes while turning. Come off brakes as markers suggest. Pump accelerator until you cab floor it out of corner. You’ll have to ride the inside kerb to get round.

A3

Follow the markers exactly and you should complete the test with ease. Rev to 4000 at the start to avoid wheelspin, then follow the blue line to approach the first corner wide, easing off the white bit before braking and turning in. Back in the blue pump the accelerator at first to stay on line, before flooring it into the straight.

A4

Accelerate gently through first gear to avoid wheelspin. Hug the inside of the track - try to get your tyres onto the kerb, as this will give you a little bit more grip than the road, thus helping you to turn. As soon as you feel your car drifting wide, release the accelerator for as long as necessary before applying it again.

A5

Accelerate gently through the first gear to avoid wheelspin. In this case, hugging the inside kerb is instrumental in getting the best time. As soon as you feel your car drifting wide, release the accelerator for as long as necessary before applying it again.

A6

This test has a rolling start. There is another way to get gold, but the suggested route serves as well as any. Be very careful when swinging over to the right side of the track in order to take the left hander.

A7

As before you get a rolling start, this test is hard, you need to follow the markers exactly - any deviation will see you either hitting the inside barrier or drifting into the far wall.

A8

Instead of following the marker to the right, drive straight down the road, as you approach the first small corner turn left slightly to allow you to follow the marker. You’ll be going slightly faster than if you’d followed the blue marker, so brake a little earlier
