Retro Game Walkthroughs for Mario Kart Double Dash (Gamecube)

***Tag Teams***
These are just some tips i can give you on the default tag teams.
Mario & Luigi
Strength - Medium
Special Items - Fireballs
5 balls that bounce down the road and rebound off walls. Good, effective if more than one enemy just ahead. Also takes out dropped items.
Difficulty - Low
Not usually a contender, but can be trouble if you are struggling in the middle of the pack.
Mario & Luigi are recommended if a newbie to the game.
Daisy & Peach
Strength - Medium
Special Items - Lucky Hearts
An effective shield against anything thrown at you, including dropped items like bananas.
Difficulty - High
I found this pair rather annoying in the 100cc and 150cc, hardly noticable in 150cc. The familier sound of "Hi I'm Daisy" speeding past on the last lap on Waluigi stadium got very frustrating after the 6th time. BEWARE : Can produce slip-ups for you
Yoshi & Birdo
Strength - Medium
Special Items - Eggs
Works pretty much the same as the red shell, except slower but they do have a bonus power of rolling down hills if dropped out back of the kart.
Difficulty - Medium
Can be a contender in 50cc but not a real challenge to the experienced karter. Rarely seen to be hurling weapons around but has good overall skills.
The Babies
Strength - Very Light, but strength can be increased if the special vehicles are used.
Special Items - Chain Chomp
A strange invention by ninty developers, but if used correctly can be VERY VERY effective. Not really much you can do to control it and be careful where it throws you. For best results use when at the back of a group, and you will chomp through the lot of them.
Difficulty - Very Low
Miniscule chance of being a problem to you if leading. Nothing much to worry about.
Koopa Troopers
Strength - Low
Special Items - Triple Red & Green Shells
A personal favourite of mine. You may not be too pleased about getting triple greens but if you have an enemy in shooting distance, youve got to have a completely crap shot to miss them three times in a row. Red shells though are perfect for getting ahead of the pack as quickly as possible. A great way to save embarrassment if behind the leaders in 50cc.
Difficulty - Very Low
Barely noticable and usually struggling at the back.
Donkey & Diddy Kong
Strength - Heavy And Light (Evens It Out A Bit)
Special Items - Giant Bananas
Cant really miss these things but still hard to avoid due to the size of them. These bananas are not only big but contain a second smaller banana inside, which have a tendensy to get you second time round.
Difficulty - Medium To High
Usually there or there abouts in the 150cc and can also be a trouble in 100cc. Can be a danger against light pairings liek the babies and koopa troopers.
Bowser & Son
Strength - Heavy & Light
Special Items - A rather oversized shell
These are no normal shells, these are whoppers! Acts like a green shell but about 10 times the size. Can cause good damage to the opposition ahead, but BEWARE : Can backfire and come straight back at you, very frustrating.
Difficulty - Very High
In my opinion, the worst of the bunch. I found myself bashing my head against the wall many times after these two got me with their special on last lap, causing me to lose my well earned first place.
Waluigi & Wario
Strength - Heavy
Special Items - Bombs (or Bob-ombs)
Suicide, sheer suicide my karting friends. The stupidness of these things are unbelievable. In all my time playing and practising i have never actually got anyone (apart from myself) with the bombs. I cant quite figure out if these things are on a timer or proximity, or even random. BEWARE : Never thow these things in front of you.....infact, just dont throw them.
Difficulty - High
The com can get these bob-ombs directly on top of you somehow and the power can knock you back a number of places, stopping your chances of the gold. Another pair to watch out for.
**Unlockable**

Strength - Low
Special Items - Golden Mushrooms
Great speed, thats about it.
Difficulty - Unsure (Unable to race agaisnt them)
Petey Piranha & King Boo
Strength - Heavy
Special Items - Everyone else specials at random

1:introduction
Get ready for the ride of your life as the superstars of the mushroom kingdom tear it out in their own karts,special weapons and a whole lot more.Pick your character combination and GO! GO! GO!
2:The weapons
The weapons are just about the only thing you can use to beat the other karts except just proper racing.You will pick these weapons up automaticly when you drive over an item box.
The red shell
the red shellcanbe fired backwards or forwards and seeks out on the karts infront or behind you depending on the way it is fired.
The green shell
once fired they will go in a straight line and bounce of any walls in its ways.
The spiny shell
once fired will seekout on the kart in first place and will destroy it.if you are near first place or right behind the person in first place I suggest you move out the way of the explosion or brake otherwise you will get blown up too.
The banana
You can chuck these forwards or lay these backwards.once put down on the ground anyone who goes over it will slip on it and will spin around for a few seconds.
The mushroom
required for most shortcuts the mushroom puts you up to a speed of 70mph
when used.
Triple mushrooms
the same as a normall mushroom except 3 times the fun!
The thunderbolt
you will only get these when you are really far behind but when used they make all the other karts smaller so they will lose speed and you can run them over.
The star
the best item in the game the star will make you invincible so you take no damage for a short period.you will go up to top speed and ram into other karts and they will spin draging the shooter along the floor when hit.
The fake item box
when layed the fake item box will act as a trap to you and the other racers.from a distance it looks real but close up its fake.perfect for laying near other item boxes!
3:the characters and their special weapons
Mario and Luigi:fireball weight class:medium
once thrown the fireball will split up into several and anyone who hits it will spin around twice and their shooter can't shoot for a while.
Princess peach and daisy:hearts weight class:medium
peach and dasiy have a heart that surronds their kart and any thing that gets shot at them will become theirs.
Yoshi and birdo:Yoshi egg/Birdo egg weight class:medium
have this weapon and it acts like a red shell but when it hits its target it will explode into good or bad things that clutter the road and anyone who drives over the item,the item will work.
Baby mario and baby luigi:chain chomp weight class:light
the chain chomp will drive along the track madly and flip over any kart in its way.it drives automaticly.
toad and toadlette:golden mushroom (you need to unlock these characters)
weight class:light
the golden mushroom can be used as many times as you want and works for a short period of time.very helpful for shortcuts.

4:the tracks and the shortcuts
mushroom cup
luigi curcuit
here the shortcuts are:
after the chain chomp there is a turn to the right,go down there but avoid the chain chomp!
there is another shortcut in the same place but on the other side of the track.
peach beach
here the shortcuts are:
after the big harpin turn at the begining on the left of the tide there is a ramp.go up there,get a double item box and just after use a mushroom to skip across the tide without losing speed.
baby park
there are no shortcut here so just race it the best you can
dry dry desert
there is 1 shortcut here.
at the start you can skip the slalom turns by using a mushroom going straight ahead.
flower cup
mushroom bridge
there are 3 shortcuts here
one is just after the first bridge go straight ahead instead of left over th sand with a mushroom.
where the bridge is insted of going through the middle of the bridge go up the sides of the bridge.this is risky and hard.
past the start line turn right and in the passage turn left and in the pipe and you will get a double item box.
mario curcuit
there are no shortcuts here
dasiy cruiser
there are 2 shortcuts here:
one is near the start where the swimming pool is turn right around the thin edge of the swmming pool insted of left.this is hard.
waluigi stadium
there are no shortcuts here
star cup
sherbut land
mario karts only spin on ice and there are no shortcuts there.
mushroom city
there is 1 shortcut here
at the start on the first juntion go straight ahead and then turn right and go down the thin passage on the right.
Yoshi curcuit
there are 2 shortcuts here:
one is around the first two corners at the tunnel insted of going left go straight ahead and use a mushroom to skip the lake or else you will go in.
just before the flower beds you will notice a place where the railings have come off.go left through the gap,use a mushroom and go through the tunnel.this is hard to find.
DK mountain
there are no shortcuts here

there is 1 shortcut here
in the tunnel insted of going left go right and use a mushroom to go over the broken bridge.

rocket start
when the counter goes 3,2,1,go hold A when it says go
double dash
do the rocket start both at the same time in co-op mode

drive into someone with a mushroom.in co-op mode the shooter must press L and R.
drift
hold R when turning a corner to drift so you dont slow down.you can also get a drift boost by tilting the cotrol stick the opposite way to the corner youre turning.
